Traditional Mexican food is truly vegan before the colonization. People in other countries and in the U.S don’t really know that and think the food is unhealthy, but I think they are only familiar with the foods after the colonization. Thanks for these recipes.
A lot of the traditional Mexican recipes I grew up with already happen to be vegan.
Mexican rice: white rice, water, tomatoes, oil, garlic, onion, Oregano and cumin.
Refried beans: Pinto beans, oil, garlic, salt.
Bean tacos: refried beans, oil, corn tortillas.
Bean enchiladas: refried beans, corn tortillas, tomatoes, Oregano, garlic, onion, salt.
potato enchiladas: potatoes, oil, tomatoes, garlic, onion, Oregano, salt.
Many Different salsas and sauces.
Lentils soup: Lentils, potatoes, onion, tomatoes, garlic, cumin, Oregano, salt.
Pasta soup: white pasta, potatoes, onion, tomatoes,
Bean chili:(ingredients very)
Horchata: rice, water, sugar, cinnamon
Many pastries and desserts are made using oil or seeds without dairy or eggs.
Atole: herina de maize (corn flour), piloncio, water, cinnamon
Champurrado: same but with cocoa added
Tlacoyos: corn flour, refried beans.
Some tamales depending on the filling
Mexican potatoes: potatoes, oil, tomatoes, garlic
Fruit with chili and lime is a very common snack
So are chips seasoned the same way.
There are many more but now seems like a good stopping point.
I would also like to mention that pre - Colombian Mexican food did not use any dairy products, almost no red meat and no oil. I personally make my food without oil( the more fashioned way)but I was writing out the recipes the way my (non-vegan) grandma makes them.

Yum! A few months ago I made posole, and I added shredded jackfruit as well. It was AMAZING. One of my all time favorite dishes.

Ahhh thank you for these recipes! Something I love about the plant base movement in Mexican cuisine is the use of different (aka easily accessible) ingredients! I’ve seen hibiscus and oatmeal tacos which taste amazing.
And thank you for giving love to the prickly cactus and it’s fruit. It gives so much to us, both the pad and it’s sweet fruit. 💕

I made the vegan pozole and actually added both the red miso paste and a cube of vegetable bouillon. Sooo delicious!! The recipe gets tastier day by day. I would recommend to use less Chile de árbol (1-2) for a less spicier taste. Thank you Sophia!!

I created a vegan pozole recipe 7 years ago and I felt like I was one of maybe 5 people with videos about that on youtube lol. Feels good to see more videos of vegan mexican food.
🌮 For the last week I've literally been thinking man I want to see Sophia come out with a Mexican food video so bad. I just moved from the southwest growing up on Mexican food and now where I live there's nothing good it all taste like Gringo food lacking bold flavors and love.

Everything looks amazing, great video! I believe I've also seen someone make it & add jackfruit strips in seasoning to give a substitute for the chicken or beef people usually add on the posole.

Tuna in Spanish in the Northern part of Mexico Ensenada Baja California my home town. It is also called "tuna" in the middle of the Mexican Republic, Zacatecas to be exact and both of my grandparents home town. I can not speak for the rest of the Mexican States but I am almost sure it is called tuna. I understand this us an English channel but it will be educational to inform viewers about some of the most basic but cultural treasures of another Country
