- No meat? No problem. Paco explores the plant based taco scene in Los Angeles, starting with a yucatecan take on vegan tacos at Hijo de su Madre, then getting astrological at Alchemy Organica, and finishing with a new kind of traditional tacos at El Cocinero. All three sacrifice nothing while providing unique and inspiring variations on the tacos we all love. Brought to you by Camarena Tequila. #ad

Francisco gomez is one of the greatest hosts of all time! Glad to see him again.
Glad!???
My Moms Family Immigrated from Yucatan , Merida and this is so cool to see a new interpretation of the food i grew up eating . His mom reminds me of my Grandma. I will be definitely be visiting this Taco place 👍🏼
Dang, I miss the west coast.
Fresh seafood, taquerias and the best Asian
food in the country.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful peace.
Happy cooking,
UB
Really happy to see all these plant based episodes lately. Living in the Netherlands I don't think I've ever had a good taco in my life but watching this helps me in trying to recreate good taco's at home
KUA kitchen in Den Haag has good mexican food
Good tacos are all about seasoning.
take a trip to L A the best taco city in America
@@urdad9853 what’s some good spots never been to Cali
Man you can't throw a stick and not hit a good taco spot....I would try the taco trucks one on Lincoln and Brooks in Venice it starts at 4pm till the food runs outthe the Koji taco truck goona google to find where its at....any little taco spot run by Mexicans in a Mexican neighborood or find a Mexican grocery store that has a meat counter...good luck
I’m so glad they checked out El Cocinero!! Best vegan Mexican food I’ve ever tried 😋
Hijo de su Madre made myself and family feel like there family just visited 7/13/22 sat down and ate like I was at their dinner table such hospitality and inviting attitudes.. thanks again from glendora.. well worth the drive
Being raised in central california and having hispanic and spanish neighbors. My childhood was filled with delicious food and great cooking lessons from everyone was an awesome life experience.
This is a beautiful show and folks that love meat (me included) need to get these types of tacos in the rotation.
We do…they’re called tacos de frijolitos
Alchemy Organica captivated me with the zodiac taco. She already had me at “re-indigenize our food”, but her intuitive approach to creating joy on a plate is on another level🙌🏼 #popuphereIcome
I had her tacos when she used to work with pattern bar, hands down One of the best healthiest tacos I ever had everyone must give it a try you will go back plenty of times.
I live about an hour west of LA and have visited el cocinero multiple times literally just to go there! Amazing food, people, and culture. Time to try the others. I LOVE TACOS AND LA
How do you live an hour west? LA is on the pacific coast
@@Simoneslegs Oxnard is west of LA
Aww loved this so much! So much pride in being Mexicano and have been vegetarian since i was 9 and vegan for the past 5 years. It’s so great to see the sense of community comida mexicana brings to everyone. And I love seeing it be plant based too 🫂💛
Mi encanto! I love the representation of the spirituality correlating with the heathly food 🥑 So smart and creative
I remember when I used to work for a wine distributor and when Camarena Tequila came out it was the buzz of the industry I’m happy it’s still going strong
Wow, you can taste the food and drinks just from the visuals. Awesome finds for vegetarians and vegans.
Glad to see el compa Francisco back in action.
Beautiful. Plants over everything
I been to that last restaurant and got to admit. They're food is really good.
He is awesome!
Their
Yo! This series is back???? One thing about vegan places is that their beans and rice options are always fire.
The food at Hijo Dr Su Madre is absolutely amazing. I can't get enough of it. I do there every week.
I wish all these proprietors and creators well. Everything looks delicious.
“Going back to our roots” 👏💯🔥
Amazing 😍 Greetings from Scotland 😊 Have a great day everyone 🌻
The west coast has all the good Mexican foods.. man I would love to be there for that alone. I really want to try this. It looks so good. We don't have a veteran Mexican spot here in Upstate NY . I have to find one. It looks so yummy
Correction, not the West Coast…L.A. specifically! I’m from L.A. of Mexican descent and have lived in Mexico City. No other place on the WC like San Fran, San Diego, Portland, Seattle, whatever…none can compare with L.A. when it comes to Mexican food and tacos especially! L.A. has the largest Mexican population outside of Mexico and where you have the most natives, you’ll have the most authentic food of that place. L.A. also has the largest population of Koreans, Japanese, Filipinos, Armenians & Thai people outside of those countries. You’ll find the MOST authentic food from these places in L.A. as well. 😉
@@Becky_Cal just wanted to add that Mexico is super diverse culturally. Making the Mexican population a huge melting pot a not just a homogenious culture in which many people falsely claim what Mexico is....
When Paco said, “mmHMM, MMhmm” that shit hit different
El Cocinero is my whole family’s favorite restaurant. They’re not vegan (I am) but we have their delicious food at almost every celebration. Lo más delicioso y sin tener que maltratar a ningún animalito 🙏🏽♥️🌯🌮
La neta se ve bien buena la comida se nota que fueron los que mas le gustaron a fransisco
This gives me hope cooking Hispanic food again 😋 I can’t eat dairy or a lot of meat so I’ve been looking for a way to eat more plant based foods
nopal, potato, mushroom, bean, acualaistas, etc. tacos
I LOVE Lucy....she reminds me of my Mom and Aunts when they get together to cook
I need to try this. My mouth is watering
Showing who you can bring flavor and ,and great tastes and fresh ingredients to bring the great tastes to what you cook.
Alchemy Orgánica sounds like a business I’d LOVE to support! I need to go back to LA cause the plant based food scene is insane
The Mayans and Aztecs were vegetarians (sometimes pescetarian)! I remember reading a book about it from this Mexican lady on the history of food in México. Great book! And it discusses the history of food of México and the influence on food from the Conquistadors. Also loved this video! Can't wait to go to Cali and try it some day.
Not actually, they bred ducks, turkeys and dogs for consumption. Don’t even try to find out how the original pozole was made of
Like 90% vegetable diet. Not vegetarian though. Turkeys were a huge part of their diet. Water based things easily caught: turtles, frogs, gators. Crickets.
@@republicoftexas4651 To be fair they were a species similar to turkey, but they weren't turkeys (she dived into that as well) and that wasn't part of their regular diet. I personally do not consider insects to be meat nor animals. While I wouldn't eat them, that's more of a personal choice. But they mostly ate plant based because crops were more consistent than meat.
@@naiafreeluv001
The Aztecs had turkeys-- turkey turkeys. Turkeys were called _totolin_ in Nahuatl. They also raised ducks and dogs for meat. Gophers. Salamanders. Eggs.
I've read maybe thirty books on Aztec culture because their engineering skill always fascinated me. From the causeways they built to Tenochtitlan, the pyramids and, their floating gardens called _chinampas-_ which are used in Mexico to this day.
Maya were much much earlier and a different culture.
@@republicoftexas4651 Firstly I reread her article and simply misunderstood her. They were turkeys, she was just explaining the difference between the turkeys now and then. And I misunderstood that as them being two different things (I read the article initially two years ago). Also the Mayans and Aztecs had very similar cultures and ate pretty much the same- with the turkey being a cultural symbol in both and most commonly used in rituals ("Turkey bones are rarely found in domestic refuse in Mesoamerica and most of the turkeys we studied had not been eaten - some were found buried in temples and human graves, perhaps as companions for the afterlife." -University of York, Archaeology Dept.). That's not saying turkeys weren't eaten. Also I never said they didn't eat lizards or any meat at all- but meat was scarce in both diets. With fruits and vegetables being the most constant things in their diets, since they were an agricultural based society- and grew fruits and vegetables year round. They're really amazing people, who did incredible things. I've read tons of articles on Mayan and Aztec food cultures, simply because I like food and history.
Gracias Madre in West Hollywood is delicious !! All plant based and an amazing tequila selection
I am plant based and would to eat + support all of these spots when I visit LA. The food looks delicious! 🤤
You are not plant based, maybe your diet is. Humans are not plant based by definition
@@tommybf3778 lol
Real Mexican Food ! Love it
Despite the astrology, to be able to put together a dish on the fly based on a theme of ingredients is impressive. The tacos were mouthwatering in every section of this episode.
I'm adding all these to my next road trip up 👍🏾👍🏾
¡Qué chingón! THANK YOU for showing how delicious vegan food is!
As a plant based Mexican, bruh my fellow people fr fr be trying to take my Mexican card away, but I be like back in mex when the fam was down bad all they had was beans, tortillas and cactus. Plant based was humble beginnings but now it’s expensive af to be plant based😭😭🤦🏻♂️ oh well, take my money😂
Doesn't have to be expensive. Stick to beans, rice, corn, and potatoes and you're golden!
First time , I visit ur channel and I found it's awesome😍😍. I like ur recipes and style of cooking 👌👌👌. Great effort, amazing skills 👏👏👏. I'll try most of ur recipes. Stay blessed my new friend❤❤❤❤
Thank you for teaching our people to eat different and be healthier 😊.
I’m so glad that a Mexican says 'we didn’t eat much meat because it’s expensive' which has always been my feeling as to why Mexican food is so good when veganised. They know how to make tonnes of flavour without relying on meat.
Looks soooo good
Muchísimas gracias por ofrecer esta opción vegana/vegetariana en comida mexicana para explorar Los Ángeles. Espero poder probarlas muy pronto 😋🌮🌯
This is absolutely amazing Denise I'm so proud of you your food is always on point.🔥🔥🔥🔥

I'm so glad to see this honestly. Makes me happy about not eating animals for a few years now.
Great spots you highlighted! But where can I get a Tacos LA hat like that?!
en La Habra hay un puesto de tortas y resurante especializado en nopales, de origen Mexicano, yucateco
Donde compa??
Definitely Going to El cocinero 😋😋😋
Yeah she's back!
Even in this internet age people (regular Americans) freak out when I bust out some serious vegetable based Mexican cooking.
• A poblano and some cactus cut into strips. Add in creme cheese and roasted corn. Maybe some fresh, sliced jalapenos. _Rajas con crema._
• Squash blossoms sauteed in garlic butter. Put them on a refried bean chalupa.
• A big ole bowl of pinto beans. Pinto beans with crushed tomatoes, garlic, onion and a ton of cilantro.
People just expect some pork or beef in our cooking. Don't get me wrong-- I'm totally down for chicharones and whatnot but, there's more to Mexican that just that.
You just said cheese ... Um
@@damien1781
Mexico has like 30 different kinds of cheeses. Including a _creme fraiche,_ "creme cheese" kinda sorta. The average person in these comments doesn't know what a creme fraiche is.
@@republicoftexas4651 I certainly know what creme fraiche is and that's not Mexican, it's European. I'm a huge foodie...
So easy to find good vegan in l.a when i visited
What up Alex, it's me Sam Lorena's husband. So glad to see you doing well and what you love .. Have to visit the restaurant soon brother.

El Cocinero is the best vegan 🌮. Great food and people
See a lot of people don't realize that as far as Mexican history all the Aztecs didn't eat meat some were actually vegetarian vegan
I love all tacos !
