just a pair of blokes having some honest fun, makes the best videos. As a rover fan from the continent I love seeing some crazy, bonkers and just absolute genius stuff like this.
Brilliant way to keep an oldish car going and a great talking point. Many many years ago I was toying with fitting a truck horn under the bonnet of my Mk1 Fiesta, but it was too long. Just as well, cos I hadn't realised at the time that it required an air compressor and reservoir! Foolishness of youth.
What a great and fun video, love Project Nigel and Paul's adventures on the channel, was nice to see Project Nigel In the Metal at the Furious Driving Social.
Great video, I had a Rover 25 and spent loads picking up ZR parts from all over (spoiler, wheels, leather seats). I wasted loads of money on it but enjoyed it. Your car is so much more fun 😊
I would love to daily a RHD harlequin 25 around but in the Netherlands, the car's colour is on the registration. The original VW Polo/Golf Harlequin was officially marked as colour: Harlequin, in the registration. The UK has always been more friendly to home brewn builds. It's probably the German legislation of our strict neighbours rubbing off on us. Ooh: if you drive a RHD car through a McDonalds in NL backwards, they get furious! I only got away with it because I told them I was a racing driver who suffered a back injury (I'm not, I'm a hotel clerk fetching a friend's JRX7 from the UK) but I had the manager at my door and everything.
Colour is on the registration on UK vehicles. But it is really the predominant colour so in this case probably fine. No problems changing it on the registration anyway, and they can have something like "multiple" anyway.
I remember my dad taking his MG ZS180 in for a service and being given a brand new 53 plate 25. I owned an early 2000 25 and I could not believe how dreadful and cheap they had made it feel. Project Drive basically turned Rover in to Trabant! I’m sure many more die hard MGR fans vowed not to replace their older cars with the new tatt. So, no sales, no company.
We’ve had 5 MGs over the years the first 4 were MK1s and they felt pretty well built and solid for what they were, but my current ZR is my first MK2 and the tinny-ness is definitely noticeable compared to our old MK1s. I’ve bought some sound deadening to add in so hopefully that’ll bring the quality back up closer to the early models
We're only making plans for Nigel We only want what's best for him We're only making plans for Nigel Nigel just needs this helping hand And if young Nigel says he's happy He must be happy He must be happy in his work We're only making plans for Nigel He has his future in a British steel We're only making plans for Nigel Nigel's whole future is as good as sealed
Fascinating video of a totally unique car with all the history of where the panels were sourced from. You need to revise your geography tho Matt , Rochdale is a long way from South Yorkshire. Fully understandable tho as you southern sorts think the world ends at Watford Gap 🤣
A close relative owns a 25 with this exact same 1.4 engine. The car is really nice to drive. And even though it's a small 4-cylinder engine, it produces a nice sporty sound ☺
You're right. Rovers did become more lesserer. The rot set in after the R8 stopped production. It was the best and last of the real Rovers with good engines, electrics and great trim.
Our original rover25 headlights look like new fo some reason, compared to the headlights on my Allroad they are just fantastic. They don't so much light up the road ahead as melt it.....no prizes for guessing which car I drive to work in the winter. Having said that, Maguire's headlight restorer is on the shopping list as someone here on RUclips used it on their audi and the results look pretty amazing...
Hello, On a different note, whats the penetrating stuff you use on your old bolts, i know you swear by it and i have a job coming up that really could use some..... thanks
@@furiousdriving thanks I looked back at the 200 brake vid and found it, got some ordered, as much as I’m dreading this job I’m looking forward to it now in a perverted way! thanks again for your excellent channel
@@furiousdriving would have been good to have seen you and the Crown Vic but there are plenty of Ford shows in the future so I'm sure I'll get to see you and the car one day
I wondwe what colour is on the V5, gold would be incorrect, I doubt if there is room for all of them. Oops must not type with laptop balanced on lap, keep hitting the wrong keys as it moves.
Never knew that about the doors! Nothing surprises me when it comes to Rover though. Project Drive was literally the worst thing they could've done. Madness smh.
Well that was a rather wonderful video. Thank you very much, Matt for the video and of course the visit; it was a lot of fun. 😊
Thanks for inviting me, and the tea! See you soon hopefully

He should of called it Joseph, great video Matt, thanks for covering such a individual Rover.
Project Nigel is an infectious channel really look forward to it.

It's the horn that say's "You are SO in my way!" Great fun!
You car people are brilliant, love Furiousdriving, and Project Nigel. Please have more interaction. Peace be unto yu.
I've seen a similarly eccentric Rover P6 with all different colour panels and interior trim and seats. Very cool indeed..

Rainbow Rover. We used to have rainbow volvos here in sweden in the old days.
Definitely a fun car, and max parpage! Wow that thing honks!

I think they were clutching at straws at that point, sadly.
Great backstory on the car!
Lol full circle Matt who got me into Rover Tom Cats after a long layoff interviewing Paul who sold me his Rover Tomcat. Small world the Rover world.
Been hoping you’d meet this fella. Hope he gets his SD1 back on the road soon

Jezus, I've been smiling and laughing throughout watching this video. Best motivator before going to work, just pure, insane brilliance.
That's really fascinating, a real mix & match,, you won't loose that in a carpark!
Great review , loved my Rover 400 diesel . I had a Rover 216 GTI with the Honda twin cam engine

Jesus, how many horns? No wonder NPAS flew over to see what the noise was LOL. Nice to see another video wiht Paul and Nigel.
👍. Love it, which is unusual for a conservative chap like me.
Wine can do that.
Great video mate
Thanks!

What a cool car more visits to this ecsentric multi coulored Rover owner

The Turtle Wax kit is supposed to be amazing…
Been a subscriber to Project Nigel for quite a while now. Your channel a lot longer time. See you in the next one. 👍👍
Would love to hear the police radio if this gets in a chase 😂 were chasing a hmmmm colour car
What a cool and interesting project!
I love it! It's batsh*t insane and genius! Well done, sir!
saw 25 at le touquet beach in france last weekend and an r8 the day before in normandy so its not only you lot that love them lol
Mates mother used to pick him up from school in a Polo Harlequin she was as mad a a box of frogs on crack which probably explained her choice
Well, speaking as a Nigel, I'm impressed. LOL
This remembers so much the benetton polo but rover hahaha
What colour do the DVLA think Nigel is?
Probably the gold, since the body shell is that colour
although DVLA have a multi-colour option if he want to change it
Gold as that’s the main shell
Hi Matt,
Talking of insects. Do you know the last thing that goes through a fly’s mind when he hits the bonnet (or windscreen)?
Answers on a postcard…
Looks awsome😎👌🇳🇴
Crazy people scraped cars for nothing or little🤔
"Someone kicked the mirror off" The state of this country
Now for me to get Kismet to you!
Thank you matt, great video. I have a 1998 200 R3 with a 1.1 engine, slower that yours but still a great drive
Reminds me of the VW Golfs in the Benniton commercials back in the 80’s or 90’s pained in a half dozen colors but what color do you register as ?
I may be wrong but I heard VW Harlequins were registered under the color their C-pillar was painted.
That sounds right as that’s the roof and shell
That's one helava horn!

Nigel Harlekin?
I would like a 25 diesel or a 45 diesel I would like one of them no dpf or anything
Like harlequin polo model
I wondwe what colour is on the V5, gold would be incorrect, I doubt if there is room for all of them. Oops must not type with laptop balanced on lap, keep hitting the wrong keys as it moves.
Usually the shell/roof/c post colour if not ‘multi’
Can't niggle the Nigel😁
I thought you were going to test drive Nigel
Just a walk around today

Imagine being a Nigel?
What a cool.car hwhw
'Early door from when Rover were still spending money'. But didn't he just say it was from a Streetwise
Wasn’t that the other one
Why wouldn't you?
I don't know what is more offensive, the car or the rubbish and detritus ignored in the yard.
I did spot the remains of a Rover SD1 in the background.
Might not be his yard. Full of rental containers
@@Landie_Man Look at the previous video, there is crap all around his cars...
Yipee I'm 684th
At least the tires match.
Kinda glad some Frenchman didn't do this to a DS which would probably have been a damn sight easier.🟧🟨🟩🟫🟪⬛🟥😏
I actually saw a DS in the early 70's on a Citroen dealer's forecourt in Italy where they'd done this! It looked awesome!
Been hoping you’d meet this fella. Hope he gets his SD1 back on the road soon
