Hi Matt, great viewing nice narration, i have had about 30 cars (most bangers) just a few- Renault 20ts ,Fiat 132 & 131, Volvo 66 & Daf 66 , . thanks for taking the time on this video , KR
That was very interesting Matt. I could have listened to more. I love your Rovers, and even though the only Rover I ever owned was a 100 series, others in my family have owned various models over the years. My Grandad had a 2000, back in the 60s, and my Daughter had a 400 diesel 40 years later. and they were all good reliable cars. My favourite in your fleet is the Volvo and I can't wait to hear your verdict of it when you get it sorted.
Happy Birthday to the little red Mini. The pattern on the interior of the 90s Rover 200 ‘bubbles’ was Paisley... fern patterns in green and blue. My mum had an early N reg 5 door in silver with the unusual 1.4 8v K-series. Lovely driving little car. Merc W123 and Rover V8 need to be fixed for the channel and moved on, use the Volvo and the Mini more. Rover Coupe is a presentable, fun runaround.
Lock down has stopped everything. W123 was going to be running by now but the tech guy cant come, V8 parts are in limbo and I cant drive anywhere to use the cars - I dont take them out when its salted roads so now they would be be out
Bought Nissan micra {bubble shape} for my wife nearly 14 years ago .Eight months old when we purchased it ,gone thru 11 m.o.t.s with no work done. Has a service once a year and consumables tyres ,never had a exhaust and original battery just been changed . When it passed last m.o.t. guy asked me if we wanted to change the car , I replied why this thing owes me nothing . Go steady.
I concur with your view of Thames, Tunbridge Wells. I made the mistake of taking my 156 JTD there many years ago, then I discovered Gonella Brothers in Catford who were brilliant even though they had a cramped, chaotic premises in a railway arch.
Just for the record - Ford Cortina Mk. 2 1300 DL, Ford Escort Mk. 1 1100 (well it was when I started, not sure when I finished with it), Ford Cortina Mk. 3 1600 OHC Estate, Saab 99 GL 4 door (should never have sold that one, brilliant), Saab 900 GLs combi (by contrast, glad to get rid), Saab 900 GLs sedan (another gem), Saab 9000 SE Turbo (lovely car, only car I could get into, not go anywhere, and get out totally relaxed), Rover 214 SLi (little terrier of a car, could drive the door handles off of it. Water rail rusted through, then blew the head gasket), Toyota Carina E Turbo diesel (dull, but worthy. Never ever failed, or broke, or excited), Citroen Xara Picasso diesel (infuriating, cost me a fortune, but was sad to see it go), Ford Mondeo Mk. 3 Turbo diesel 130 bhp (went like stink, eventually blew up), currently - Vauxhall Zafira B (not spontaneously ignited yet. Again not exciting, but worthy). Here endenth the first chapter.......
Has to be the most through, honest and possibly longest RUclipsr car history video on the net. I have never owned an Alfa as the right ones only turn-up just after I have bought something else. Quite fancy a 166. Shocked you never owned an MX5 or a Honda as oddly almost everyone I know has owned one or the other either by choice or by chance. If you fancy another Range Rover P38 ownership with the right car is awesome with a fantastic club in the south coast and an excellent specialist/restorer they have just turned the corner classic wise. Will be buying at least 1 Tomcat T shirt to celebrate my baptism into R8 ownership/repair.
I’m 19 and I’ve just bought my second car. I must have decided that sex appeal was overrated, so for my first car, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a blue Peugeot 207 1.6 SPORT model, I was wrong. It was about as sporty as Stephen Hawking, 0-60 would take a bank holiday weekend. You can often see herds of these two tonne tampons outside any church on a Sunday morning anywhere in Britain, being driven by people who are mostly dead. Also, I personally paid for my mechanics last 5 holidays to the Bahamas on first class flights - to say this car is unreliable is an understatement. It’s about as sturdy and long lasting as a pensioners erection. I got it MOT’d 6 months into ownership, it failed. I spent a fortune fixing it, and a year later, it failed yet again obviously. Sold it for £250, bought it for £1300 and spent £1800 on repairs in the year and 6 months I had it. To be honest, that probably says more about me than the car but I think it illustrates just how woeful that car was. After the Peugeot I bought the car I’ve wanted to own for as long as I can remember, I have just got myself a beautiful 2007 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6 in what my friends call ‘Jewish Racing Gold’. Most people my age would want a slammed Golf R or something else terrible like that, but I’ve always wanted a big old, ish, Jag. I absolutely love this car, it’s a gentleman’s club on wheels. You’re cocooned in wood and leather, treated to the most superb ride of any car I’ve ever been in and has more than enough power to dispose of the plebs in their Ford Fiesta’s. I have no doubt it will completely financially cripple me, but I’ll have a massive smile on my face while it happens. Today the engine management light came on, for the second time in the month I’ve had it, but who honestly gives a toss. I fooking adore it! I know already this is a car that I will keep for as long as I possibly can. Anyway, excellent video as always furious driver, and what a car history you’ve had! The highlight for me was that gorgeous Alfa 156, such a shame it’s not around any more, that spec was superb!
“ the boot would unlatch when driving... which is always fun “ that was so funny. Happened to me in my mini clubman. I left Tesco’s one day a couple months ago both my barn doors swung open and the shopping went all over the road.... and yeah I did shut them properly, it’s just the car decided that the boot latch mechanism didn’t want to work anymore. So I ordered one on eBay and fitted it a few days later when it arrived. Thanks mini...👍🏻
Brrrr! Suddenly got cold at 22 mins. 10000Kelvin cold.Must be that Thames dealer. One of my favourites was the 156 and I liked the early ones - for looks - and searched ages for an immaculate light blue one with black leather. It went very, VERY well and I agree, not only is it beautiful but it handles like a dream. The interior is amazing (to look at) at night the lovely dash lights too. Replaced with an RX8 which is also truly amazing. Volvo V50 now.. Preceded by but not in order, Triumph Vitesse 2 liter convertible x3, Mini 1000 x3, BMW 2000 lux, Standard Pennant, Fiat 124 sport coupe 1800, VW Golf, Vauxhall Astra (given to me), Mazda 323F (great car), Austin Metro...Struggling to remember now...
Please Consider a routine maintenance list video for the subscribers common things that get overlooked in the rush. Example air filters air conditioning cabin filters locks hinges lubrication, windscreen wipers clean and lube the tension springs to improve contact of the blade pattern, label removal on glass, Tyre pressure check and location of the correct pressures in owners manuals Would make a two part vlog, depending on the details.Cheers!!
Excellent ! Wish I had kept records of all the cars I had over the past 50 years ! I remember them all .Like you, some with love and others less so ! presently have a Seat Leon ST 4x4 300bhp. It’s got the dsg but I actually like it. It’s a bit of a compromise but I can live with that . Just wish I could get the winter tyres off and get the summers back on. But no tyre fitters will look at doing that at moment .
Nice video Matt! I think you should consider changing the 145 for a good 156 2.0 or Busso. There must be at least one Alfa in the fleet! I'm not that fond of the W123 to be honest, it's a weird colour combo, bit tacky. W123 should be in seventies pine green or one of the funky solid colours they had at the start. Or a silver 280E. I like the Volvo more but maybe it's not special enough to be a keeper. Good luck!
Dang it Matt! I've been haunted for years with the thought that I should try to do this sort of thing. Now I guess I have a job to do. The years I was wrenching for two bit car dealers has made that list pretty hard to reconstruct...
Great video. I'm with you on the 156. I had a first gen 2.4 JTD Lusso in green, outside and in. Cramped sitting position (for me), yet terrific car which gave very little problems.
Your 156 not starting after someone being heavy handed with the steering wheel is familiar! In 2013 I was working in a VW dealer, we had our very first MK7 Golf GTD delivered (MK7 Golf had only been out a few months at this point). It was to be a sales demonstrator vehicle. We all wanted to have a drive and some of us did. The sales manager then took the new car home that evening.........only half way home it cut out! It re-started and he got the car home. The next morning he decided to drive it in to work, however it cut out and this time refused to start, and he had to call breakdown! You can picture the scene - the VW sales manager with his brand new GOLF GTD (one of the first few in the entire country) being recovered in to the VW dealer on a breakdown truck! Anyway, it took ages to find what was wrong. Days spent investigating the problem, until eventually it just one day started no problem! The tech sussed out that if he unlocked the steering wheel and pushed/pulled the steering wheel in or out firmly, it would cause the car to cut out and not start, and if you firmly moved the steering again it would then start.........it was eventually traced to a loose fuse not located properly!
My brother bought an old Volvo 144 taxi, with the old BW35 automatic, that one wouldn't start when warm either. His solution was to turn on the ignition and then jam a screwdriver between the big positive connection and the solenoid positive, starting it that way, of course he "borrowed" one of mine and after a couple of months the screwdriver was like a welding rod, burnt to a blunt end. Naturally he didn't borrow a straight plain one, he used the Phillips unrepairable! 🙈
Had a few similar experiences over the years, I had a Rover 220GSi (3 door hatch in my case) which was brilliant until the gearbox exploded (M224 PBV). Also had an Alfa 145 1.7 16v in red (N41 HMB), I loved that thing and even got the dealer (Mangoletsi in Knutsford) to put the cloverleaf steering wheel and gearknob in it). And I'm with you regarding the E60 BMW, mine was a 530d MSport and it broke down more than I care to remember, it was awful but great to drive when it worked. Currently have a Rover 75 2.5 V6 Connoisseur Auto as a keepsake (bought it for my Dad for Xmas, but sadly he's no longer with us so its back with me). Also have a Range Rover Sport 3.6 which is great but the best car I've owned by a long way is my 1998 e39 540i which has been utterly brilliant. Owned it for 14 yrs now and have driven it around 100,000 miles in that time and covered pretty much the whole of the UK in that car, from the top of Scotland to Lands End its an unrivaled hi speed long distance monster. Its also the only car I've ever bought unseen - it was in a BMW main dealer, fully spec'd (literally everything), low miles and one owner from new - Lee Evans! I just said YES and drove 300 miles in a snowstorm to pick it up lol. Alas, I think Its up for sale now because it needs a few jobs to make it perfect again and having got the Rover 75 back, I need the space really. If anyone's interested let me know :)
I really liked this video Furious. Your enthusiastic attitude to your favourite cars is infectious. Likewise your hatred for cars that let you down. Pete UK
Great video. You surprised me. For some reason, I was expecting a much older fleet. I was thinking maybe t hings like 2cv and 60s Rootes. Your modernity caught me unawares. Great channel
I wish I could have a car history as long and interesting as yours Matt! But, alas, I’m only 21 and have had one car so far in my life. My first car, that I’ve had just over 3 years. A 2004 VW Polo Mk4 1.2. It’s a fantastic little car, not had that many issues with it and it’s only 64,000 miles, 21,000 of which have been with me. My dad passed his test in 1967 and my mum in 1984, and my sister in 2004, so their car histories are a little bit more interesting. Here they are as far as I know about My Dad: 2017 Honda Civic (2018-) 2012 Ford Mondeo (2014-2018) 2004 MG TF (2016-) 2007 VW Jetta (2013-2014) 2004 Ford Mondeo Zetec (2006-2013) 1998 Jaguar XJ8 (?-2006) 1966 Jaguar MkX (?-2005) 1968 Jaguar 420G (?-2005) 1986 Mercedes W124 (This is the car her had at the time I was born. These following are ones I’ve seen pictures of) Opel Manta Opel Monza Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3 Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 Jaguar XJ6Mk2 1964 MGB Roadster My Mum: 2016 Ford Fiesta Titanium (2017-) 2010 Ford Fiesta (2012-2017) 2004 Fiat Punto (2006-2012) 1997 Proton Persona (2004-2006) 1994 Ford Fiesta (?-2004) (later used by my sister as her first car) Ford Sierra Vauxhall Nova My Sister: 2019 Audi TT (2019-) 2018 Fiat 500 (2018-2019) 2012 Audi TT (2014-2018) 2009 Ford Fiesta (2011-2014) 2004 Peugeot 206cc (2007-2011) 1998 Peugeot 206 (2005-2007) 1994 Ford Fiesta (2004-2005)
As italian and an "Alfista", i'm glad you love so much the Alfas... And to me, the 156 is one of the best of recent times (especially with red leather interior)
@@terrificspokesman7416 They are pretty solid, but some times they have little problems that hurts. I have a 156 TwinSpark with 170k km (nearly 100k miles) and no major issues
The Rover looks great, can’t wait to get my Volvo stuff! Know the feeling fed up thing. But hang in there - we are in the same boat! Brilliant video chap
There are some amazingly bad dealers. My mum's 106 spent many hours at a dealers while they tried (or at least they said they did!) to stop the windscreen leaking. Eventually they did take the screen out and reseal it, but they refused to replace the mouldy carpet even though we were going to pay for it. Worst job I had, a main dealer fitted a brand new gearbox to my Skoda Rapid 136, but for some reason it had the wrong casing for my car - they used self-tapping wood screws! I found out when, the next morning, there was a pool of oil on the garage floor. A set of alloys as compensation :-) Fiat garage in Warwick was good, it makes all the difference when your car spends less time at the dealers and more time on the road! Thank you for your car history :-)
@@furiousdriving Indeed, have you ever seen some really embarrassed mechanics! It was the one and only time that garage did work on my car. Another cracking job was new brake pipes to the callipers, you had to bend the pipes out the way to change the pads... A nuneaton Fiat garage did a nice clutch job on my 126, shame they forgot to tighten the gearbox mountings, connect the reversing light, connect the speedo cable, etc... I've just had so many bad times at garages, I try to do most things myself, when I can. Nice to see you have a film scanner - mine is connected to a beige G3 in the loft. I'm in the process of scanning my grandad's slides from the 50s-70s. It's a slow process, but some fantastic photographs! Keep well. Gord :-)
I owned a 1998 Rover 214 Si five door in 2009. Sadly, I didn't find the driving position very comfortable, confirmed when I owned a 25 in 2018, and the PSA R65 gearbox was very sloppy indeed (probably the age didn't help), but I do agree they handled OK. I drove a Polo G40 MkII facelift last year, and you are right, the steering is really heavy in them and the brakes are awful, even if the facelift ones do have a servo. Fascinating little journey through car history, will have to update my one of these I did last year with some pictures.
Cracking video as always and what a car history, and I thought I had a few fair cars in 19 years of driving, not including my wife's cars! Think I average a car every 1.5 years!! Shortest being 2 months of owning a car! Here is my list 1998 Nissan Micra 2003 Nissan Micra (unrealible) 2001 Ford Focus 2005 Skoda Fabia vRS 2008 Ford C-Max (Dangerous car) 2008 Skoda Fabia Estate (never geled with it) 2011 Toyota Yaris SR (first new car) 2009 Ford Focus (expecting 1st child) 2011 Kia Cee'd Sportwagon (sadly written off) 2012 Vauxhall Astra CDTi ( beleive was never Mot'd or taxed after I traded in) 2017 Skoda Fabia Estate (still have, now wife's car) Nearly bought a Freelander, but pulled out deal 1999 Nissan Micra (I so wanted another one, paid £175 to try and relieve my memories of first car, needless to say it was rotton as a pear underneath so was scrapped) 2003 Fiat Stilo Abarth another car buying disaster was a fantastic car to drive until the autobox packed up and spent two months in a garage, when I did pick it up I had lost confidence in the car and just parked it up and then it developed a major oil leak so I scrapped it. 2009 Mini One Graphite (loved this car, sadly took too much up of my time) so sold it to my wife's friend. 2004 Volvo S60 (another cracking car only owned it for 4 months then found out how much it was going to cost to put it through a mot with things to be replaced, plus the fact my drive kept ending up like a rainbow every time it rained!!) 2008 Nissan Qashqai (still have, just hardly driven the damn thing as got a month before lockdown) Wife's cars have included 2002 Toyota Yaris (not a bad car) 1999 Ford Focus 1.4 (quite disappointing used as much fuel as my 2001 1.6 Focus I had at same time) And if I can find another K11 Micra that's perfect or a Mark 5 Escort then I may add to my fleet....
Hearing all the effort it took to gather photos/images of all the cars you've owned (as far as possible) has inspired me to do the same. Only 1 car so far :) , but I'm putting the photos I can find of it into a folder on my laptop and may get some physical photos produced if the quality is decent enough.
Well you kept my full attention for the whole of the video. I’ve got so close to owning an Alfa a couple of times.... onetime I’m sure I’ll be brave enough
@ 5:15 , doesn't that mean that the kettle itself lacked a fuse (or an intact fuse) , since the current overload passed straight through the kettle to the car's fuse box ?
Shout out for the original MR2. I bought one in LHD to move to Greece in. I was luckier than you as there was no rust on the car at all. We drove across Europe in the car (all our stuff was shipped in a container). Had it for 3 years and never skipped a beat - eventually we sold it back to the garage we bought it from in the UK (on UK plates - couldn't sell it in Greece). Real pity wehad to sell it - but a daughter was a fair exchange I guess.
I am watching your vids from a couple of days but your story with your classics cars is so cool. Thank you for reviewing old cars. The red 146 Alpha is awsome even today i would buy one.
Can't believe I've just watched an hour of you discussing the car's that you've had. Some very interesting ones. 38 ton tipper? That'll be a 32 tonner! Possibly grossing out at 38, but should be 32 max as it's only got four axles. Hadn't realised it was just by the Limehouse Link tunnel. Cars often come up in the middle lane there to try and turn right to beat all the queuing traffic. You are right, 30mph limit now. Ah, bad brakes on the Breadvan Polo, everybody says that. One thing for a dealer to not be able to repair a car, but another for them to blatantly lie to you - shame on Thames. Know that industrial estate well too. 😂 A Saab 900, do like those. Stay safe Matt. I'll probably be back at work next week, can't see them extending our 3 week furlough. 👍
It was full of rubble and they drove like Hell Drivers as paid by the run, it used to be fun driving there late at night. Hope you're OK going back, I actually wish I could! I couldn't believe how bad Thames treated their customers, its was a huge shame the good Alfa dealer at Rainham shut and they are still going
@@furiousdriving Tipper drivers do all drive like that. As you know I drive an artic in London and they try to race you up and down the roads, push in and out of gaps etc. I just ignore it and let them go past, I'm not in a rush like that. Had a tipper ages ago whack my mirror (broke the outer casing) and just kept on going. They're a menace. Drive through weight limit areas, cut corners etc. Vast majority are all like it, as you say paid by the load (though legally they can't do that, but there's incentives) and told to do 6-7 loads a day otherwise they get the boot and get somebody else in. They've not told us yet that we're going back, but I suspect they will. They closed our depot in Tilbury and left the one open in Rugby, closed the one in the North East too so everything coming out of the one in Rugby. Too much work for one depot to cover - told them this weeks ago, but they don't listen. I'm just a driver, I don't know anything. Had a call a couple of days ago from one of the drivers up north trying to find a local site that we go to and he asked how it was I just said "you're luckier than you think being able to work". It'll be nice to be back, keeping busy etc but still worrying with everything going on. I did look up the reviews for Thames and there are plenty of people on Google that are dissatisfied with their service too, so you cannot be an exception - always a shame when the decent places close and the not so good ones manage to keep going. You've made me look up Alfa's on eBay now! 😂 There's a Volvo 850 for sale in Rochester, it's up for £750 but has been for sale for months on Gumtree - am sure it could be had for less. I've been tempted. Might need some suspension work for it's MOT, bodywork a bit tatty (hopefully a decent polish would sort) but it's an 8V auto, not basic spec, but not top of the line. Not much going for it, but it's been tempting for ages...Actually thought it had sold a couple of months ago, but found the listing again. Hmmm, dunno, dunno, dunno.
Really enjoyed this! I owned one of the other 12 or so 159 Q4 Ti 2.4 Jdtm Sportwagons (also in black, 2009MY), cracking car indeed, had it for seven years with hardly any issues at all.
A bit of coincidence - I noticed there's what looks like an Alfa 33, your previous Alfa, in the background of your photo of the damaged 146. I always loved the styling of the 146 even more than the 145, sad to see yours get damaged.
I currently have a 2011 9-3 ttid Aero, Great car even today, I appreciate it isn't a classic heyday Saab and I do find myself looking for something new but can't find anything to replace it with, nothing seems to have the same feel to it. :(
I had 3 95s. Loved them and bought em cheap. All 3 had major turbo fails and were scrapped (€800 to repair). Used good top quality synthetic oil and let the turbo stop spinning before turning off the ignition. Made no difference.
That was a pretty comprehensive account of the good bad and the ugly! Keep up the good work this won’t last for ever. Well done on an interesting hour.
As a young lad I was sitting at traffic lights and looked into the FIAT garage and realised every car they had on the forecourt I couldn't afford.... and me driving a fiat ritmo at the time. Also I put brand-new continental tyres on a fiat uno after passing my test and promptly crashed into a JCB 4 days before Christmas.... now I've 3 cars and can't drive them because of lockdown.
First Escort you call Orange, I had one in the same colour, the official Ford name was Sunburst Red. I had an A reg Escort 1.3 Estate in the same colour when I was 19.
My brother has an Alfa 156 1.9JTD, has just ticked over 220,000 miles and he's still using it daily! He won't part with the poor thing, it just keeps getting welded and going strong.
Such a shame about the 159! Would love to see more of the Y Reg Mini! Starting to feel the same with this damn lockdown, not much longer now hopefully. Love the videos, helping to get though 😁 cheers
I was about to do a full review of the Y when we locked down and now its SORN :-( Ive got a few bits to do but not enough to fill a whole video as it is.
I'm 46, similarly obsessed with cars as you and have owned 117 cars (all logged) since Dec 1989. I've never owned the same car twice, with exception of one; had a Triumph Acclaim Triomatic, and then a manual one. Needless to say, your string of Escorts distresses me! :o) Great vid, enjoyed it.
I like mk4 Escorts and learnt to drive in a 1989 F black 3 door one, a few years later I had a BX which was horrible, when the BX was broken I was lent a mk4 Escort which I didn't want to give back! Unfortunately the garage wouldn't sell me the Escort. I had a 1984 Polo coupe, the brakes were horrible.
Many years ago we had a Lada Samara and the driver's side floor kept getting water in the floor and it was rain water not a leak from the heater; I never did find out where the water was getting in. I found a rubber drain plug in the floor and partially removed that plug. Didn't stop the water getting in but at least the floor was now damp instead of flooding.
Great video. I’ve had: 1991 GMC Sierra 2004 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Cab 2005 Ford F-150 SuperCab 2005 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Cab 2004 Lincoln Navigator 2004 Ford F-150 Regular Cab 2016 Kia Forte5
Cant believe how similar our early car history is only difference being my first mk3 Escort was metallic champagne (Beige) but terrible. Also had a mk2 Orion after my grey mk4 Escort and a Sierra (but i don't like to think about that). In between works cars I've owned more cars than I care to remember. I Have fallen for Alfa's as well had two and still own one though its starting to rust but one of the best handling cars I've driven. Probably lucky I've not got much space for more cars or id be buying stuff and getting into trouble.
It amazes me how little damage it takes for an Insurance company to write off a car these days, perhaps they should put the repair estimate percentage back up to 75% -80% of insured value like it was years ago. Insurance companies tend to rely on Glass's too much, rather than what the car is worth to its owner both money and sentiment. Repair shops can do wonders these days with accurate jigs and modern methods, the car often coming back in better than factory condition.
Use the gear lever in tiptronic mode and ignore the paddles....... will illuminate your driving experience. There's always the option on all auto gearboxes even with paddles ;-)
Looking at that Freelander, I think it came from the same dealership as my old 420 GSI did! Miss that car, £175 it cost me but just too rotten so I chopped it in for a profit and replaced it with an E46, so I’d say the Rover/MG side of this history is my favourite, but got to love the Alfas!
My list until now: '08 Ford Fiesta 1.4 tdci (bought used as a first car, totaled last year, sadly, for the time i owned it,never got a problem, only ordinary mainteinance) '10 Ford Fiesta 1.4 petrol/lpg (until now, nice car, even if i had to repair a couple of things, when first i've seen it i fell in love, because i loved the other fiesta i had before,so decided to buy another one) P.s.: Would you buy a modern Alfa (maybe a Giulia/Giulietta)?
I had a similar experience with J H Lowick Ford in Middleton Manchester ( its ok they closed and ceased trading 20 years ago ) I had a C plate 1.1 Ghia Fiesta that wouldn't start on a wet morning ( even with lots of WD40 ) I took it to them as an ex-demo only 6 months old, they couldn't find a fault and suggested next time it wouldn't start I needed to take the car to them to assess it????? I pt-x'd it for a demo Uno at a FIAT dealers - I had traded an Uno for the Ford and was never happier to get back into a reliable FIAT.
I enjoyed that Matt, a slideshow isn’t the most interesting but you seem to have kept me entertained for the last hour and I enjoyed it. I will say though I think many of us are having bad days even though I’m working normally, I still miss my family and that’s hard. All the best. Steve.
Wow interesting car history. Complete polar opposite to mine, the p6 was only point our paths crossed, yours were quite cool cars tho, ooh a lancia 2.0 hpe, fiat 132sport and 124sport flirted with the dark side for a couple of months.
I have had 70+ from the very undesirable to pretty desirable. As well as having a sports cars of assorted types I've had a number of lumbering old people carriers in which to transport kids about while throwing their food and drink everywhere and towing a caravan. 3 years ago I brought a 2004 Hyundai Trajet CRDi it was cheap immaculate and only done 60k with full main deal service history. I REALLY love driving this and I have no idea why I have even sold my Mini Cooper as I never use it preferring to drive the Trajet I can only assume I have early form of dementia
Oh gosh, SEATs. I hate SEATs! Well, anything VAG to be honest. My wife has a 2013 Altea XL 1.6 TDI with the woeful DSG gearbox. The Altea is a dreary car to drive, with horribly hard and uncomfortable seats, and the problems it has given have been far too frequent. Most notably, the inevitable rebuild of the DSG gearbox at 53,000 miles. Its one and only redeeming feature is that neither me nor my wife care about it, so it doesn't matter to us if it gets dirty, or scraped, or bashed. I look after it mechanically, but that's it. The Altea is to me what the 520d is to you. I wouldn't have another SEAT if I was paid to! My own car history since 2002 is very short - just 9 cars: 1990 Fiesta mk3 1.1LX (2002-2004), 1995 Escort mk6 1.8TD Ghia (I only had it for 8 months in 2004, but put nearly 25,000 on the clock), 1999 Focus mk1 1.8TDDi Zetec (2004-2012. I LOVED that car!), 1993 Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8TDX (2006-2007), 1999 Focus mk1 1.8 TDDi CL Estate (2007-2009), 2008 FIAT Bravo 1.4 T-jet [150] Dynamic (2012-2014), 2006 Focus mk2 1.8TDCi Ghia (2014-2015), 2011 Kia Rio 1.1CRDi 2 (2015-2017), 2017 Volvo V40 D4 R-design Pro (2017 to now, second favourite car after my first mk1 Focus). I do have a soft spot for Alfas though. The 159 wagon is the most beautiful estate car ever made. I'd love to own one of the 5 cylinder diesel 159 wagons 😍
Nice cars I had an Alfa 146 sport wagon selespeed loved it only problem I had with it battery kept going flat but that was a rear light I sold it regrettably but bought an e30 bmw H plate loved that to so did the bloke who smashed the rear end. Then I bought a rover 216 bubble 98 s plate gray car had no trouble with it did 130 tho miles in it but replaced it with a k plate mondeo nothing but running problems I have had a few cars but not as many as I would of liked great video by the way
Fabulous Car History Escort Ghia, Alfa 156, MG ZS, Barchetta, TOMCAT, beautiful Volvo 740. Keep coming back to the TOMCAT. Maybe it's the T shirt. Lovely stories. Maybe some day you'll stumble across an E30 325i quite by accident, cheap looking for a good home. 😂😂
A car coffee pot took out the fuse on my US Horizon but that was all. Unfortunately it also ran the tail lights. I found out from the cop who stopped me in some mosquito infested location in the middle of the country.
good man..thank you again..stay focused..it's getting to me a bit as well but lockdown will not be over on may 7th...at least you an outdoor area..i have an hr walk a day with my wife then back to the flat....facebook..youtube..movies...tv..tidy flat..go for beers and food to asda or morrisons...take my 2006 Mercedes C180 KOMP Evolution ( with 33k on it...check P29LRD) for a sneaky 20 min run now and again..check dvla mot...1 fail when i hit a pothole lol...thanks for another great video...best wishes from Edinburgh
I am lucky to have the space around us, a bit of a walk or run makes a huge difference. My wife did a day volunteer driving for the NHS delivering to ambulance stations and loved being out
That was a very enjoyable video. What a history! I noticed the two cars that you had the most passion for were the two that were wrecked - funny how life does that. That 159 wagon was a stunner. Thank you for sharing. My personal motoring history is in an album on FaceBook.
Nice to see a scale Crown Vic Police Interceptor next to your keyboard! Interesting story! Can't believe you had a restyled Barchetta! Those are strange indeed. "Saludos" from Argentina and I insist on a review of a 90's Fiat Tipo :)
Love these car histories. Really enjoying this channel right now.
Glad to hear it!
I did have a good laugh at "up north in Stoke on Trent"!
South of the Thames everything is 'up North'! I had to laugh though....
Mate anywhere north of Watford is "in't North" for us 😂😂😂
Anything above the Watford Gap is The North!
furiousdriving Typical Southerner!
W123 was going to be running by now but the tech guy cant come, V8 parts are in limbo and I cant drive anywhere to use the cars - I dont take them out when its salted roads so now they would be be out
But did they all have good tea shelfs?
many did not
Bought Nissan micra {bubble shape} for my wife nearly 14 years ago .Eight months old when we purchased it ,gone thru 11 m.o.t.s with no work done. Has a service once a year and consumables tyres ,never had a exhaust and original battery just been changed . When it passed last m.o.t. guy asked me if we wanted to change the car , I replied why this thing owes me nothing . Go steady.
Those were the good days of Nissan. Now it is Renault 'quality'.
1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Custom Cruiser
1984 Peugeot 505 Turbodiesel
1984 VW Rabbit Diesel
1996 Infiniti G20 (AKA Nissan Primera)
2009 Hyundai Sonata (still own it!)
Now thats a step up in the right direction, look after that and get trust proofed. Im still quite sad the 156 is no more
>jewish racing gold
lmao hahaha
“ the boot would unlatch when driving... which is always fun “ that was so funny. Happened to me in my mini clubman. I left Tesco’s one day a couple months ago both my barn doors swung open and the shopping went all over the road.... and yeah I did shut them properly, it’s just the car decided that the boot latch mechanism didn’t want to work anymore. So I ordered one on eBay and fitted it a few days later when it arrived. Thanks mini...👍🏻
Not heard of that fail before! oops
furiousdriving yeah it was not a good situation😂
I thoroughly enjoyed that! A nice trip through your car history, which is an awful lot more interesting than mine!
I was going to sleep. Looks like that will be in 59:33 🙃
sorry...
And me too.... Was wanting a early night but this came up in my notifications so had to watch
1:30 at night now 😅 Ofcourse I have to work tomorrow..
@@H4lminator 5am, just finished, lovely binge watch, sleeping pattern can go away like the 530d!
furiousdriving 😂 damn your interesting content! My panda eyes look wonderful this morning. And it’s entirely your fault! 😂
Whatever you do, don't get rid of the Volvo! It's a fantastic old tractor that can be used for anything.
56 cars starting with my Talbot Sunbeam Ti back in 1991, still have a Polaroid of it in a sunny glade which is now slabbed over with houses.
The tech sussed out that if he unlocked the steering wheel and pushed/pulled the steering wheel in or out firmly, it would cause the car to cut out and not start, and if you firmly moved the steering again it would then start.........it was eventually traced to a loose fuse not located properly!
haha and they say say Alfas are the bad ones, at least that had done big miles by then!
Great video Matt! and a fantastic variety of cars, gutting to see what happened to your 159 Wagon, that was a gorgeous car
I feel inspired to do a cat history video as I’ve had quite a few myself. This was a very interesting and enjoyable watch!
Fascinating car history, you have owned some lovely cars. I have never been brave enough to own an Italian car!
I really liked this video Furious. Your enthusiastic attitude to your favourite cars is infectious. Likewise your hatred for cars that let you down. Pete UK
Very interesting array of motor cars Matt. Great run down, thank you. (From 'up north' near Stoke on Trent.)
Mini 1000, Mini Cooper, MX5 NA, MX5 NA, MX5 NB and finally MX5 NC Sport Black. Not many for 30 years of driving but a bit of a pattern.
Great video. You surprised me. For some reason, I was expecting a much older fleet. I was thinking maybe t
hings like 2cv and 60s Rootes.
Here they are as far as I know about
My Dad:
2017 Honda Civic (2018-)
2012 Ford Mondeo (2014-2018)
2004 MG TF (2016-)
2007 VW Jetta (2013-2014)
2004 Ford Mondeo Zetec (2006-2013)
1998 Jaguar XJ8 (?-2006)
1966 Jaguar MkX (?-2005)
1968 Jaguar 420G (?-2005)
1986 Mercedes W124
(This is the car her had at the time I was born. These following are ones I’ve seen pictures of)
Opel Manta
Opel Monza
Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3
Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2
Jaguar XJ6Mk2
1964 MGB Roadster
My Mum:
2016 Ford Fiesta Titanium (2017-)
2010 Ford Fiesta (2012-2017)
2004 Fiat Punto (2006-2012)
1997 Proton Persona (2004-2006)
1994 Ford Fiesta (?-2004) (later used by my sister as her first car)
Ford Sierra
Vauxhall Nova
My Sister:
2019 Audi TT (2019-)
2018 Fiat 500 (2018-2019)
2012 Audi TT (2014-2018)
2009 Ford Fiesta (2011-2014)
2004 Peugeot 206cc (2007-2011)
1998 Peugeot 206 (2005-2007)
1994 Ford Fiesta (2004-2005)
Youve got time, Id only had 4 when I was 21. My mum had a Manta as well, that was a cool car!
As italian and an "Alfista", i'm glad you love so much the Alfas... And to me, the 156 is one of the best of recent times (especially with red leather interior)
Alfa romeos are rally nice cars. And the are not that unreliable
Thank you for your car history :-)
self tappers? thats a new level of bodgery
Finding the pictures is the time consuming aspect, fun to do but does take a while!
My lockdown Sunday morning sorted. The saxo was a highlight!
Cracking video as always and what a car history, and I thought I had a few fair cars in 19 years of driving, not including my wife's cars! Think I average a car every 1.5 years!! Shortest being 2 months of owning a car!
Here is my list
1998 Nissan Micra
2003 Nissan Micra (unrealible)
2001 Ford Focus
2005 Skoda Fabia vRS
2008 Ford C-Max (Dangerous car)
2008 Skoda Fabia Estate (never geled with it)
2011 Toyota Yaris SR (first new car)
2009 Ford Focus (expecting 1st child)
2011 Kia Cee'd Sportwagon (sadly written off)
2012 Vauxhall Astra CDTi ( beleive was never Mot'd or taxed after I traded in)
2017 Skoda Fabia Estate (still have, now wife's car)
Nearly bought a Freelander, but pulled out deal
1999 Nissan Micra (I so wanted another one, paid £175 to try and relieve my memories of first car, needless to say it was rotton as a pear underneath so was scrapped)
2003 Fiat Stilo Abarth another car buying disaster was a fantastic car to drive until the autobox packed up and spent two months in a garage, when I did pick it up I had lost confidence in the car and just parked it up and then it developed a major oil leak so I scrapped it.
2009 Mini One Graphite (loved this car, sadly took too much up of my time) so sold it to my wife's friend.
2004 Volvo S60 (another cracking car only owned it for 4 months then found out how much it was going to cost to put it through a mot with things to be replaced, plus the fact my drive kept ending up like a rainbow every time it rained!!)
2008 Nissan Qashqai (still have, just hardly driven the damn thing as got a month before lockdown)
Wife's cars have included
2002 Toyota Yaris (not a bad car)
1999 Ford Focus 1.4 (quite disappointing used as much fuel as my 2001 1.6 Focus I had at same time)
And if I can find another K11 Micra that's perfect or a Mark 5 Escort then I may add to my fleet....
Id sort of like a mk5 escort but I know they are rubbish!

@ 5:15 , doesn't that mean that the kettle itself lacked a fuse (or an intact fuse) , since the current overload passed straight through the kettle to the car's fuse box ?

yeeaaahhhh!!!!!
I'm currently in quarantine in Ireland at the moment working away from the UK. Thanks for the video Matt..
Not a problem, glad it filled some time!
A bit of coincidence - I noticed there's what looks like an Alfa 33, your previous Alfa, in the background of your photo of the damaged 146. I always loved the styling of the 146 even more than the 145, sad to see yours get damaged.
Never wanted a Saab? They're amazing cars. Even back in the day. :P
Many times, nearly bought a few!
@@furiousdriving give the 740 another scandinavian friend
I currently have a 2011 9-3 ttid Aero, Great car even today, I appreciate it isn't a classic heyday Saab and I do find myself looking for something new but can't find anything to replace it with, nothing seems to have the same feel to it. :(
I had 3 95s. Loved them and bought em cheap. All 3 had major turbo fails and were scrapped (€800 to repair). Used good top quality synthetic oil and let the turbo stop spinning before turning off the ignition. Made no difference.
Dodgy HT lead for the Alpha. Resistance increases as wires heat up.
:o) Great vid, enjoyed it.
the escorts served a purpose.. 117!
Only just found this! What a fascinating video, I love to hear about others car histories!
I’ve had:
1991 GMC Sierra
2004 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Cab
2005 Ford F-150 SuperCab
2005 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Cab
2004 Lincoln Navigator
2004 Ford F-150 Regular Cab
2016 Kia Forte5
Cant believe how similar our early car history is only difference being my first mk3 Escort was metallic champagne (Beige) but terrible. Also had a mk2 Orion after my grey mk4 Escort and a Sierra (but i don't like to think about that). In between works cars I've owned more cars than I care to remember. I Have fallen for Alfa's as well had two and still own one though its starting to rust but one of the best handling cars I've driven. Probably lucky I've not got much space for more cars or id be buying stuff and getting into trouble.
5:00 the moment when you were traumatized and started to care about teashelfery in cars 😄
Nice video!
Kinda have a soft spot for the RR Freelander. I believe they were based on the Rover 200, I think you mentioned a Marina?
1980s VWs always seemed to have really heavy (un-assisted) steering. My 1990 Scirocco was a pig to park.
Ive owned 16 cars since 1991, got pic sof them all, mercedes x5, audi x3, bmw x2, clio x3, golf x2, sharan x1
Lovely Jubbly, thanks for sharing.
Volvo S80 -01, Volvo V40CC -14, Volvo V40 -15, Volvo 740 -88, and then Lexus IS -14. I still have the 740 :D
Remember that motor show. Believe it was Birmingham (unless they had the same stage in London?)
GL05 ONX. Untaxed since December 2006 and appears to be exported
These do go abroad alot being left had drive, shame its one we'd like back, if it was still good.
Hi Matt, great video, you have had some cars,I wouldn't mind having some myself,I've had ten cars and my present one is the one I had the longest.
My list until now:
'08 Ford Fiesta 1.4 tdci (bought used as a first car, totaled last year, sadly, for the time i owned it,never got a problem, only ordinary mainteinance)
'10 Ford Fiesta 1.4 petrol/lpg (until now, nice car, even if i had to repair a couple of things, when first i've seen it i fell in love, because i loved the other fiesta i had before,so decided to buy another one)
P.s.: Would you buy a modern Alfa (maybe a Giulia/Giulietta)?
Find myself looking for old Volvos / Rovers on AT more and more since subscribing! 😁
Great video. Not massively keen on your choices except for the Alfas and... the Saxo 😁 Don't want to judge though as my cars weren't great
I really enjoy your show! Keep up the good work!
These 33 was probably the successor to the Sprint.
I pt-x'd it for a demo Uno at a FIAT dealers - I had traded an Uno for the Ford and was never happier to get back into a reliable FIAT.
haha drive it here if it wont start!
@@furiousdriving I know - that was the final straw and why I traded it in on another UNO !!
I enjoyed that Matt, a slideshow isn’t the most interesting but you seem to have kept me entertained for the last hour and I enjoyed it. I will say though I think many of us are having bad days even though I’m working normally, I still miss my family and that’s hard. All the best. Steve.
Wow that would make a car movie 🙂 Thanks for sharing 👍
1:03 Ian Dury reference? Lol!!
1,2,3,
You seem to talk about Alfa-Romeos in the same way I feel about old G-wagens.
The 33 was a p4 not a q4 loved mine handling was amazing 👍
Yes you’re right - it was Permanent 4
Wow interesting car history. Complete polar opposite to mine, the p6 was only point our paths crossed, yours were quite cool cars tho, ooh a lancia 2.0 hpe, fiat 132sport and 124sport flirted with the dark side for a couple of months.
Very enjoyable video the E30 & Range Rover what a dream 80's power couple! Crazy that they could be worth £20k the pair now...
Loved it. Seeing Matt with hair blow my mind. 🤯 great video 👍
That looks like the Trump emoji!
I hated the DSG, the rest of the last gen Leon was actually pretty good
Brilliant Matt...really enjoyed watching that. Thanks , very entertaining.
Ill keep checking barns maybe one day!
My wife did a day volunteer driving for the NHS delivering to ambulance stations and loved being out
Anything north of Sheffield is the North the south starts at Mansfield
That was a very enjoyable video. What a history! I noticed the two cars that you had the most passion for were the two that were wrecked - funny how life does that. That 159 wagon was a stunner. Thank you for sharing. My personal motoring history is in an album on FaceBook.
Life is cruel...

Nice to see a scale Crown Vic Police Interceptor next to your keyboard! Interesting story! Can't believe you had a restyled Barchetta! Those are strange indeed. "Saludos" from Argentina and I insist on a review of a 90's Fiat Tipo :)
Very pretty, Ive not seen on win a long time now
Really enjoyed that. Some great cars.
