And that includes masking cartoon characters in all that stuff❓
This one step saved me around 20 minutes for each mask I do. Thank you so much for this!
It takes around 45-50 mins .... I saw his desktop time at the corner 😁
It's means not easy? 😁
@@qalamahmadkhazain6220 yeah
you think thats alot of time? you realize things like this can take litterally days
@@qalamahmadkhazain6220 nothing is easy in life
Hari Hadwin no it doesnt hes also explaining thats why
Thank you so much for pointing out using adjustment layers, for anyone who does not know, if you have everything in one mask and you mess up, it is a few hours of cleaning up you have to do. Thank you again for this technique. Almost feel stupid with the answer being right under the nose the whole time.
I never thought of using adjustment layers to correct masks! There's also the option I've always used of using a subtraction mask over poured edges, but not sure which method would be faster.
Good one, but you could also set the mask layer from "add" to "none" and you will see the main footage and get no black. Also, you can duplicate your main layer and add the mask. In this case, you don't need to do that TrkMat thing.
True, but the adjustment layer does come in handy if you are copying and pasting masks onto different size footage. So many times I've masked out a 4k clip and then tried to apply that mask to a 1080 clip, vfx shot, etc and it doesnt work correctly
True, but it's likely less processor intensive to do one adjustment layer as a mask (composited down), then 6 video layers with a mask. Both achieve the same result -- I'm just guessing it's going to make a big difference in rendering time -- AND if you apply an effect to the video itself, those separate layers are not going to function as a whole, and you'd get some kind of artifact showing the edge of the mask where the video overlaps.
A key technique when rotoscoping is to move the vertices in groups. Not one by one. That way you maintain the shape and reduce the risk of chattering edges. Also create ...keyframes.
If you're tracing a ball that flies up and down. Trace first the lowest position, the highest and then the final low position. Then adjust the in-betweens, correcting the positions where after effects goes wrong.
Ahhh, wow... I can't believe after 10 years of editing, I never thought of this myself 😂😂. Thanks Josh, great tip bro! ✊✊👌👌
DJTronuk awesome bro! Yeah! This technique is a life saver!
Someone please help Im trying to apply a mask to the Adjustment layer but it doesnt want to apply to the adjusttment layer
it Keeps applying to the actual video whenever I click on the screen of the video to apply the mask it switches down to the video !
HELp
@@SaltedMallows Maybe you are confusing the Video's window, with the Composite (project) window, It can happen easily because the video's window opens OVER the Composite window, if you happen to double click (ie click twice ;) on the name,.. Then you don't see it pop up and think you are in the Composition window! :O
Masking out body parts at a time is really smart! thanks for the tip, still relevant 2 years later!
TNice tutorials might just be the first motivational comnt ive ever seen on a tutorial vid. ga thanks bro
You should look into Mocha rotoscoping. Saves time because you don't have to adjust for every key frame, Mocha interpolates well and you have more advance tools available that allows you to track more difficult shots, even with motion blur and occlusions. Once you are done the selections and track data can be used in AF as masks. I think Mocha is included in AF btw. Pro version offers more tools for removing objects etc. But for rotoscoping work you can use mocha that ships with AF.
I briefly saw this concept mentioned in another video and this is exactly what I was looking for! No just another "just rotoscope" when in many cases it is just same amount of work and worst results.
Thank you very much for the tip, I know this was in 2017, but the mask mode can be set to none instead of applying it to an adjustment layer, the less layers in a compostion, the better haha.
yeah
using it for a few years and now I want to upgrade and I'm happy I did that.
thank you. Only vid showing this on RUclips and now I'm not confuse anymore. Continue to follow whatever dream you have. peace and love hommie
Ahhhhhhh this is so simple but so smart, god only knows how many hours I have spent trying to mask the whole subject at once 😂😂
Your tutorials are appreciated. You explain everytNice tutorialng so simply and show the fundantals of producing. Many people and myself thank
This works. Recommended to try this out. Thanks a lot for your help
*I agree with the thumbnail.*
i have never felt this calm while masking. thank you so much
has anyone ever co up with such a good lody, and forget it seconds later
This was helpful thanks
The rules apply to also photoshop. It is sometimes easier to mask parts individually instead of taking on the whole selection.
I like your video.
I think is not really necessary add "adjustment layer"
In the mask there is a option called "none" and it's for dont change the alpha channel.
I recommend to you use mocha Pro plug in for mask and Rotoscoping. Congratulations for you video.
Thank God for the roto brush tool.
If you look at many tracking videos this segmented strategy is the way to go. nice video
Awesome tut. Love from Calgary, Alberta
is that really better than roto brush plus refine tool? I mean roto brush looks much faster and the result it's still good
TNice tutorials is very easy to understanding.i have soft soft tutorial Tamil language .keep on each other's.greet job dudes
One thing I would really like to be able to do is to parent adjustment layers to tracking points. It would be really useful when the camera is moving but the subject not so much, and more precise when working with masks or effects such as mesh warp. I don't know if there's an expression for that but I couldn't find answers online.
Learned this with Mocha Pro a couple of years ago
I was rather hoping that it would be possible to open another instance of soft soft VST in rewire and drag stuff from one to another but
you should do masks with different modes and the trkmats!
Super useful man it take me less than 10min.
interesting but is there a way to isolate a moving person out of a still background automatically. By identifying moving pixels vs still pixels...?
No, unfortunately not. To this date you still have to manually mask out every frame of a video.
What a video bro! Can't thank you enough! Thank you so much you made life so much easier!
Nice tutorial Micheal, great video to get us started. May you tell - how do I link two or more channels (in the rack channel) as to share the sa
I always like your videos, so that you keep making them :D Thank´s a lot for all your tips, they are very useful to me
Man. I wish i had known this a while ago! This tutorial is worth every single second. Great. Work.
am going to try this method, wish me luck.
I prefer to use mocha, you can track shapes, but splitting it up is still good
I have a trick for YOU!! Hit ALT when you add or edit a mask point and out come two little handles, that allow you to make a big CURVE with just ONE 'node'! (You can clear the area of other vertices near it!) Use this, any place there is a curve, and you can use one or 1-2 instead of 5-8 for a smooth curve and total fast control!!! Where you are placing 14-20 nodes (vertices) I place 5-9! Having 5 vertices to change over time (and the smooth curves taking care of themselves!!! ) makes it all go a LOT faster :) This trick will save you time, (and yes, breaking it up into moving parts is brilliant! Good idea!) Our two tips together make JURASSIC PARK!! BTW The end video is REALLY Cool!!
But is not possible to make a tracker for each single point of the mask? In this way only the program would work
What’s the advantage of using the adjustment layer / track matte technique? I assume you could just duplicate the layer and mask each “ligament” individually anyway?
Sometimes I accidentally double click on the adjustment layer, then the mask disappears and only appears on the adjustment layer (which is a white canvas). How would I be able to get the mask to go back to show on the footage (ctrl+Z doesn't work)
Masking can be so time consuming! Hah but definitely going to try this out for my next mask, awesome video man.
Yo thanks for checking it out! Yeah segmented masking will change out life for the positive
Olufemii Tutorials it makes so much since too!
ive been trying but it wont let me move the individual dots when keying it only lets me move the entire thing
Masking in Mocha 2019 is even better!
I've always wanted to make soft but every ti I download software to do so, I just look at the 5,000 buttons/settings, cry for a few
Freaking awesome content and you saved me TONS of tedious mins of masking time lol. Keep up the great video content.
videos on pretty much everytNice tutorialng. Feels like I can finally move forward with making soft.
Thanks this was so helpful I'm a beginner editor and I'm still learning alot about after effects so this was really helpful
would using the mask tracker that tracks the mask and key-frames for you automatically combined with this make it faster?
how to set the duration of a mask? i only need to apply a mask to the first 2 seconds of my video
watch more and learn more your are great thanks.
things are much more easier now , you have rotobrush v2
Thanks for taking the time and effort to show this! Extremely useful!!
That´s indeed a great technique, I usually combine this one with some rotobrush work, but that´s only after Adobe invented the rotobrush. Still, there are some cases where you have to do it manually and this is definitely the way to go. Great job! Keep up the good work, got yourself a new subscriber! ;)
I don't anything about video editing, but I subscribed to watch your tutorials/advice/tips for future use. Question: does masking separate parts of a clip make your final result longer to render?
i think you mean limb instead of ligament but great vid!
gotskittles WHERE IS THE LAMB SAUCE?🤔 * Gordon Ramsay voice*
Oh yeah you meant limb
so
WHERE'S THE LIMB SAUCE?
getting going on my compositions!
An absolutely amazing trick which I never ever would have thought of. Wow. Dope dude.
Or you just can use rotobrush. It will track the movement automatically.
Would this look weird if you feather the edges?
In The setup If the master channel is located in the top, next to the counter, then no - IT stays witNice tutorialn acceptable limits, when I play so of
here's a recording tip if you are doing a commentary type thing, I would but the audio "mono"
Can the adjustment layer just be a duplicate layer?
Saved me AGES.
Your voice is amazing
why my masking always shifting positions after editing? this annoying me all night and almost got crazy!
What are the differences from the regural and the free trial one
Thanks man. Had a totally different problem but this actually solved it!
How do I get the ligaments though?? like I just get the little dot but I don’t get the little branches that let you smooth it out
Thanks man! You nice tuto!!
Awesome! Never would have thought of this, thanks so much.
What dont u want to use the rotobrush as any normal person would do?
Its maybe better detail... but still the same amount of work... i mask the whole body you can select only the arm vectors and skip a vew frames to place them together... so work the same... but thanks for the vid! Have a great day!
Shit that's exactly what I was thinking that masking in after effects is sooo annoying there has to be a better way lol so i found your video! Thank you
Do you have a video showing how to edit softs????
or u can just use a rotoscope and save your time
Doesn't work for all footage.
It's OK for RUclipsrs or student projects.
Just give it a shot. You know how time consuming rotoscope can take.
Masking is a actually the proper way to rotoscope. AEs Rotobrush is a great tool, especially with its latest advancements with refine edge, but old school masking is the proper way to rotoscope :)
Rotobrush... Tracking mask... can be used and they may be more practical than this.
This tutorial looked great but I'm having an issue (I'm new to AE). I created the adjustment layer but when I start using the pen tool it creates a mask on the original clip instead of the adjustment layer. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
you have the original clip selected instead of the adjustment layer. tap on the adjustment layer
@@ryth9121 when i click on the adj layer it simply goes back to the video layer as soon as i touch the edit are with a pen and if I double click the adj layer it goes white. Tutorial is dogshit with bought likes/comments
@@engage1942 same thing for me. Ive tried everything, even locking the clip. It just flashes and doesn’t allow me to use pen tool.
You are the best, this was so helpful. Thank you.
dude tNice tutorials is super good! subbed
I tried what you said, but it made longer. This works for some situations tho.
Interesting! :D
Damnnnnn he edited my idols music video
DUDE YOU ARE A GENIUS I LOVE YOU
Just curious as to why you didn't track mask for some parts? Also you can drag and select multiple points so you don't have to move multiple points individually along his arm and things like that.
if any of yall are still watching this at this time. don’t bother. watch noemie.edits masking video it’s so much more easier and quicker. i’ve tried both methods. this one and noemie.edit method and noemie’s is easier trust me!!
Thank You, in hind sight I should have implemented this much more.
GREAT TIP!
Thank you!!
Thank you!!!! This is such a monumental help.
Is there any advantage to adding the mask to the adjustment layer and making the clip a track matte versus just applying the mask to the actual video clip?
This is actually great! Thanks for the tip man!
40 minutes to be exact ;) thank you for the great tip!
why not mask Track?
@Wheelz *in the morning
Yes! Love this
Griffin Kerwin 🔥🔥🙌🏾
Thanks for this great tip ..... really time saving
As far as i know, the FIRST tNice tutorialng We should do is SET THE TEMPO, it is very crucial.
This tutorial HARD thank u
Thank you so much!
