6:20 "And if you export this with a transparent bg, you can just actually place it over top of any other piece of footage, and it just works as a transition." That's some really useful imformation to me as a newbie to After Effect and content creating. I really like the way how dude is sharing insipring tricks for us to learn and shine!
it's crazy how much potential this Adobe program has. More video creators need to upskill themselves if they want to produce creative and unmatched content. I'm just starting to learn After FX after 2 years video editing on Premier and the potential this thing holds is breathtaking. Thank you so much for the detailed and fast guide through!
I 2nd that. Your ad spots are always very nicely done. Didn't realize you made them inhouse. Who needs and agency and/or production company when you have the skills inhouse?
I am in video editing school, thank you so so much for your tutorials, they really help me when I do not catch something when we have lessions at school and I can learn the feature at home with your help, you are a life saver😊
Thanks! Nice and concise. After watching this I used the new Rotobrush on a woman whose right arm enters the frame from screen left, then the left arm comes in 12 frames later. I isolated the right arm thinking I'd have to do both arms separately, but after 20 seconds of calculations not only had it done a great job on the right arm it found and isolated the left arm AND her body. Pretty impressive and super-fast compared to the older version.
I'm new to both editing and YOU... and I must say, I LLLLLLOVE your work and tutorials!!! I'm so happy to have found you🙌🏻. I know you're going to be my go-to guy. Thank you so much!!!❤
I mean this is a very respectful manner. The actor in the video has an incredible set of abs. She works hard at it and it shows. Very motivating for me to get back into my work out routine.
I'll need to rewatch this a couple more times but this gave me a good idea of how it works and might actually get me to start using it. Been avoiding it just trying to learn basics for now but I have been realizing lately I will need to start using this a lot soon for stuff I want to make
Thanks man! This is a great example of high-level excitation transfer, succint knowledge dump and quick tip. I remember when you guy were first starting out, now you're taking over the world, lol. Keep going!
As someone who is has been using rotobrush since v1, I can say that v3 is incredibly faster and accurate as far as human subjects are concerned, but it is still borderline unusable unless you have a top of the line PC. The refine brush tool adds processing time multiple over what the regular brush would have taken. Making a correction in the middle of a track destroys the entire track ahead of it. Thats a major time waster. We are still a long way away from a one stop AI driven roto solution. (quick tip - instead of using the refine edge brush, use only the regular brush, freeze the roto and drop in a refine soft matte effect. Saves loads of time.)
DUDE... DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDEE!!! What a Freaking F?! No talkie talkie about ur life, straight to the point!! Im total noob at adobe and even I got it! + THESE BONUS TRICKS AT THE END??? Guys, u are GOLD!
F'ing AWESOME VIDEO! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You know your sh!t, teach it really well and concise with great zoom ins to interface details AND you get to the point fast AND nail it in 7 minutes! Liked, Commented, Subscribed! Wish I could do more but that's all I've got right now! 🤟
Great video! I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer for. If you don't freeze the roto, does the beginning of the clip lose its roto affect you put on it? That seems to happen to me quite often and I don't understand why. I'll get thru 75% of my clip with the roto brush and then the beginning starts to lose the progress I've done on it. Should I freeze half way thru and then continue on? Then freeze again? Appreciate your help!
Mastering the Roto Brush 3.0 in After Effects has never been easier, thanks to your tutorial! We at Ceros appreciate the way you demystify complex tools and make them accessible for everyone. Keep sharing these valuable resources, they're truly empowering for the creative community!
Thanks, I have question, for sports video clips that have faster movement, what is the ideal frame rate and how much shutter speed is ideal when using RB 3.0 to help prevent motion blur or ghosting in the movements.
Thanks for tutorial! Please tell me how can I add this rotobrush to blender. I made camera tracking in after effects and rotobrush of a moving object. I import all this into blender, but the rotobrush doesn't work. Do I need to set up a solid on the rotobrush object or a mask? How can I do this in after effects? how can i make it move like an object in blender?
Cool stuff man, but how can you save the moving image by itself with a transparent background? I have supposedly saved it but when I import it into my Premier Pro project it still has a black background. If you can advise me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I've been trying to figure out how to use the roto brush for the last 3 days and all that i've got is a ton of problems like the border has the purple outline and i can't use the roto brush, when I use it then it only gets the person for a second or the other clip gets roto brushed too if the clips are pre-composed
Hmm, thanx for introduction! But when I tried to use rotobrush in my AE 2023 - there is a rotobrush 1.0 and 2.0 only... Maybe it's because my integrated (not discreet) GPU?
Thank you! I feel like I'm missing a step. Once I've rotobrush the first frame, I press play, the brush/mask doesn't follow on the subsequent frames. What am I missing here?
Hi Ray, sorry to hear about the frustration. It could be simply that it's working too hard that it's taking a really long time for every frame 😔 The other issue is that sometimes when there's a mismatch between the framerate of your clip and the framerate of your composition it can have some problems. Is your computer really really slow in general? If so it might just be that Rotobrush could be pushing it too hard. Hopefully something in there is able to help. So glad you liked the tutorial, thank you so much for watching! 😄
After 😄 even if you do color correction Ae will default to the video file itself and discard color corrections during the actual process of using Rotobrush so it sadly doesn't make a difference
How do you make it analyse and roto the entire clip though? If I go to play it it just plays a second and them just loops that, and the part thats been analysed disappears from the timeline once it goes so far past it.
What is happening when I'm in rotobrush mode but when I have my green marker to make a path, there are not lines that pop up to indicate a path has been made? I've used this method before but not working this time. Thanks for any help
I need a tutorial that is going to explain PROPER workflow using RotoBrush. I'm creative enough I don't need tips on that. What I do need to understand is why, even after freezing, Rotobrush STILL wants to endlessly propagate. On to the next tutorial that can address this.
Amazing tutorial, thank you so very much for making this! What is your opinion of the two-app workflow of Premiere + AfterEffects? You say in the beginning that it is important to commit to the edit at first. But yet it is so hard to commit to the edit without having seen the VFX. The entire back-and-forth between PP and AE seems like such a tedious hassle when you need to change edits. How are coping with it?
Hi Sasha, Thanks so much! Great question 😄 for me personally if there's any concern that a shot might not work out I usually do a really bad basic version as a proof of concept to make sure that what's in my head can actually work on screen in editing, so doing a quick version usually happens before even committing to a project to begin with 😄 But that's also what I like about PP + Ae because I usually link the actual After effects project into PP which prevents needing to jump back and forth as much, and no exporting 😄 I really love that process but I've also noticed I only love it on my desktop with quality hardware but I hate it on my laptop because it's much slower 😑 so I guess it also depends on your computer, at least that's my opinion. Hope that answered your question 😄 So glad you liked the tutorial!
My biggest issue with rotobrush is that its always used in a scene where a single actor is performing. In that context, its much easier for AI to determine how to scope, but real scenes can include two or more actors. This is where it falls apart. I see that lightroom is able to determine different faces in a picture. I wonder if that tech could be integrated into rotobrush so that the AI can tell this guy is different from that guy when rotobrushing
why is it that when there's a part of footage where AE included some unwanted background, I try to go back in with the red rotobrush and it doesn't erase the background? Or it does, partly, but it only shows it after playing the scene again. I think I have enough RAM and mycomputer is optimized for doing all of this. Has this ever happened to anyone?
There's not quite a one click solution, but you can get around it by duplicating the layer and removing the roto from the bottom. Then you can set the top roto layer to be the matte for another layer with the layer controls on the left. This makes it look like the roto is cutout and you can see through it which would be exactly the same thing that you're getting at but in a messy workaround.
6:20 "And if you export this with a transparent bg, you can just actually place it over top of any other piece of footage, and it just works as a transition." Thank you so much for this, too many vids on YT about the pros, cons, comparisons - rather than just a simple 'how to'. Good job guys, as always 👍
Excellent tutorial! You're really walking the talk by having such high production value. Concise yet detailed and very well paced. Subscribed!

Wow! Thank you so much!🙏100% I'll keep 'em coming! 😄
I haven't used after effects myself in over 10 years. What a difference these days from drawing masks by hand.
I'll need to rewatch this a couple more times but this gave me a good idea of how it works and might actually get me to start using it. Been avoiding it just trying to learn basics for now but I have been realizing lately I will need to start using this a lot soon for stuff I want to make
Just in time! This saved me hours of doing it by hand. Thanks!
thank you! this was so helpful and in depth!! you answered any question i had before i could realize that i had it :)
You saved my life!!! Thank you so much I avoided a reshoot thanks to you
Fascinating. I never paid attention to that tool until now. So many applications for this effect. Thank you

Thrilled to help! What are you working on?
1:00 after clicking the tool, my cursor doesnt draw a line to the object. please advise
so amaaaazing!
😄🙏
coolest video ever
Kinda hard at first, but it worked.
can you make the animation come in back in front of your rotoscoped subject, so that it appears to be swirling all around them?
so cool!!!!
Can I find this folding paper animation from 0:20 on motion array?
Thanks man!
Any time! 😄🙏

Was looking for a little more info on V3.0 not just "Here is how the roto brush has always worked".
Good thing there’s 20k channels with Ae tuts 😂 right 😎🖤🍭🫶🐓. Although he did say it’s way faster and more accurate 😂 than 2.0 🌯 enjoy my friend 🙏

my after effects only has 2.0. How did you get the 3.0 version?
anzwaz to invert the rotoscop mask? to keep the background but remove the subject?

which IN AFTER EFFECT got roro 3? thank
