The example of the cube turning into a square was cool to begin with, but the change in background combined with scale realy made it great. Wow! Thanks for the tutorial.
Each time I tried making transitions I tried making everything "natural" - created a shape or mask layer and than tried to animate path property so that every frame has a part of gradual transition, but now I see in motion graphics you don't need "natural" transitions, you need transitions that look natural even if it's a trick (just like in tricks magicians do). Plus animating path property cannot be used in many situations. Motion graphics is magic. This video is a nice lesson.
Wow. This is a very nice and easy to use technique. I saw people making such transitions many times, but never knew how they do it so smoothly. Thank you for this video.
If you like your null objects green, you can always go to preferences-->labels and assign the color of your null objects to green. This way you don't have to do it manually every time you create a null.
for layers that already exist in the project panel, there's also a column where you can change the label color so any time you drop it into a comp it will show that color. you might have to toggle that column on or extend the width of the project panel to see it.
This was an excellent tutorial. I just learned this and I can already say that this is the most important technique I've learned to date. You are awesome! :)
Hey, ty a lot for your videos man. There is not so much videos on your channel as I would wish, but each of ur tutorials is a diamond. Ive made my first motion graphic video by using this technique and fell in LUV when Ive first see it!
Wow, what an awesome technique. I can use it in 3d animations as well. I didn't know this technique, and I always wondered how can I achieve these results as you showed at the end. And thanks to you I now know. This technique is so powerful. Thank you 🙏🏾
Like, dude, at least come up with a match cut between something other than a match and a sword - that’s literally straight from the Ben Marriott course.
my trick for the match cut trans is to align the 2 clips together, then keyframe the opacity of the 1st clip 100-0, precomp them then add whatever transitions u want
I´m so glad the algorithm put this video on my path! XD that was really greaaat advice! I had already forgotten that cuts are the most easy and effective way of transitioning, even on animation. Subscribed!
uhh this is exactly the same concept that Ben Marriott uses for his paid masterclass, from the match and the sword, making a match cut...is this inspired by his tutorial ??
Thanks for asking! I noticed this on his social media after already creating these assets but decided to go ahead with it...I do give him credit for the match - sword idea!
Initially, I didn't find the effect particularly appealing. However, as you incorporated more accessories, it began to make sense, and I believe I will consider it moving forward. It's a fantastic and straightforward trick that will enhance the fluidity of my work. Thank you very much! ♥
This was amazing. Exactly what I needed for my project. Nice and simple and can be applied in many ways. Definitely an essential technique. Thank you soo much!
Thanks!!, you showed perfectly what I’ve been trying to figure out when watching the first motion example for Microsoft you showed at the end! First time I saw it I was like *wait what* , now imma go do mine
My way of using After Effects seems to be similar to using Premiere. I urgently need to learn either how to completely switch my work to Premiere or how to properly use After Effects.
I you are doing motion graphics work in premiere you will find that learning after effects will make a massive improvement...even easing and working with the graph editor in premier is very clunky and slow....
Thanks for the tutorial... But I have a question, when I try from right to left everything goes fine, but when I try to do it from left to right I can't, it changes all the positions and when I connect the layers to the null object, everything stays otherwise, I can't do the rotation and even without it, one of the objects disappears completely... Can you help me?
This is hard to problem solve without seeing your setup...sounds like it could be something to do with you Null animation and perhaps the location or anchor point of that null. My best suggestion would be to start from scratch and create a new null to drive your animation. Make sure you change the location of your null to the anchor point of your Right object because if it is located at your left object you will have problems. Let me know if you come right!
Good question! So, you don't really need to use the null, but I just think it's a cleaner workflow that also allows you to animate the properties of the child layers separately. So, with the null included, I could decide to add some extra movement to the position/rotation/scale, etc. on the child layer but if I didn't have the null, once I animated the first layer and the parented the next, I would be stuck with the animation of the first layer...I hope what I am saying makes sense, let me know if not!
This is fantastic, thank you! I'll be honest, when I saw the preview img I immediate thought, didn't Ben Marriot do a match already? So the shoutout was nice. :D
Hello, I wanted to animate the opening of a door, in that case the object does not change its position, so how can I use this technique in such a situation? Thank you!
Hey! This technique can work for a door (without position change)...it will have to be quite a snappy door open though and you will have to create some send of movement...probably using path animation if possible. Have a look at this tutorial as it may provide some insight: ruclips.net/video/h2hlWhuhIsY/видео.htmlsi=NCXNuf_DXVepEZ2m
If I do this with multiple objects do I need multiple null objects? Say the match turns into a sword, then the sword turns into something else. Sorry, new to this.
No, you just have to repeat the steps with the new object. Add the object, move the null, place object behind, parent new object, find the fastest point and trim the clips.
Match cut and morphs are two completely different things, so don't use words you don't understand... morphing is VFX term and match cut is editing term, first involves picture manipulation and the other is just a basic cut.
Thanks for the suggestion! This is a fairly old vid at this point and my audio setup was not great so that is largely responsible for the low quality...and adobe podcast was not actually around at that point 😅
You are picking up on all the dope songs! Nice! This one is called Danger Snow by Dan Henig! I have been using this one consistently for all my recent outros and I really like it!

technique is literally everywhere. definitely a big trend of 2023 and 2024. like when everyone use link transitions. haha
what is link transition?
Used this technique on my latest project, it's so smooth and so easy and you can apply this to almost anything that don't match much with each other
Awesome to hear! It really is versatile!
You are so generous with sharing your knowledge of motion design techniques... I have watched almost all your videos. - A Grateful Subscriber.
This was an excellent tutorial. I just learned this and I can already say that this is the most important technique I've learned to date. You are awesome! :)
This is the best video I have seen on morphing. Thank you

Looks bit like Ben Mariott's work/tutorials. Like, a lot.
Like, A LOT.
Agreed.
like ALOT ALOT
Like a LOT LOT LOT... a LOT.
Like, dude, at least come up with a match cut between something other than a match and a sword - that’s literally straight from the Ben Marriott course.

Such high praise is deeply appreciated! Thanks Ahmadreza!
my trick for the match cut trans is to align the 2 clips together, then keyframe the opacity of the 1st clip 100-0, precomp them then add whatever transitions u want
whatever gets the job done 👌😉
amazing tutorial 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 a small recommendation is to add a smear frame this will help smooth and blend the transition while its morphing 👌🏻
Completely agree! I love smears so you don't have to tell me twice!
You are a GOATTTTTTT my friend! I had this idea but it was dead on my head, you brought it back to life. Thank you!!
I'm glad this helped you get your idea it back into reality! That is all I could ask for!
You should check out Ben Marriott’s tutorials. This guy took everything from Ben’s motion design course, including the sword to match transition.
Man, I like ur style
You have good taste my firend! 😉

Thats kind of the beauty of this technique...its deceptivel simple and you can stack complexity and visual interest on top!
So cool!
This should be top video for "after effects morph"
La verdad es que no se inglés, y no sé lo que dice, pero entiendo y comprendo perfectamente lo que realiza, sin necesidad de escuchar.

so simple, yet so effective! thank you very much for this tutorial.

Hey, i love this tutorial... thanks for opening my eyes, i'm a newbie..

Good question! So, you don't really need to use the null, but I just think it's a cleaner workflow that also allows you to animate the properties of the child layers separately. You should use Adobe's Podcast Audio to improve the quality of your voice, and raise the levels a bit as well.
