  • Today's video once again puts Halo vs Star Wars. The Covenant SDV Corvette was heavily featured in Halo Reach, and was the ship used to destroy the CSO Supercarrier. That ship is taking on the Acclamator Class Assault Ship, as used by the Republic during the Clone Wars and debuting in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. The Covenant vs The Republic - Star Wars vs Halo - find out which comes out on top in today's episode of Star Wars: Who Would Win.
    Much of the footage today was taken from Halo Reach and its campaign cutscenes.

      This is a great match up, but I gotta add something. In the Halo novel "First Strike", apparently all covenant ships have to lower their shields in order to fire on a target. Just wanted to mention that

      THANK YOU. Finally someone that disregards the stupid 200 gigaton claim.
      The Covenant SDV corvette has an Energy Projector, the DAV-class light corvette however did not. This becomes really confusing as the two look EXACTLY THE SAME. =A=
      It is a bit of a toss up really, it depends on if the Covenant use their distance advantage and play keep away. But considering that they typically don't use it when it comes to corvettes, tips this fight in the Acclamator's favor.

    According to Warfleets, the SDV does in fact, have shields. No clue why the Ardent Prayer's (the corvette from Reach) or the Corvette that was damaged later seemingly had their shields down. For the Ardent Prayer, it could be possible it was en route to the Long Night of Solace to have it's shields repaired after being damaged in battle on top of refueling.
    As for the one over the city? I'd say one of two things. Either it had lowered it's shields to fire and the missiles nailed it right then or the shields on the SDV just aren't anything to write home about, which seems the more likely as according to Warfleets, each ship basically has a dedicated....pattern that it shares with vessels of the same class, but doesn't translate to other ships. In other words the shield of a SDV is of a completely different class and a completely different manufacturer than the shield of a CCS.
    Oddly enough, despite having the S for Salvation, the SDV does NOT have a plasma lance or excavation beam.
    Here's the SDV's armament:
    6x Melusianf-pattern heavy plasma cannons
    16x Carnax Nu-pattern plasma bombardment mortars
    11x Phot-pattern pulse lasers.

      The forces attacking New Alexandria were mostly Brutes, Brutes did have their own ships, normally smaller ones, and had advanced systems (shields, heavy cannons, etc) removed on orders of Elite fleet commanders.
      As for the Ardent Prayer, perhaps the Savannah downed it's shields with an archer volley, then took out the emitters with point defence guns? (grasping at straws with this one)

    • @ForrestJ115
      @ForrestJ115 2 года назад +1

      I believe the reason why they didn't have their Shields up was because using Shields takes energy from the ship if I remember it correctly, I'm just assuming here but I think those who are in command of the Corvettes didn't think Humanity was that big of a threat at the time to use Shields

      Probably they were destroyed in the battle. The skies were mostly clear for a good bit before they started glassing why would they give up air superiority over the city that still had a good bit of military units and Spartans on the ground. The unsc probably blew them up as soon as the civilians transports were clear of the city. You don’t wanna start bringing down ships over a city that’s still mostly full of civilians.

    A couple of things I want to point out:
    - In Halo: Fleet Battles (Tabletop Game) and Halo: Hunters in the Dark (novel) both depict the SDV-Class Heavy Corvette possessing energy shielding, and in the latter case, the Mayhem (the SDV Corvette in the novel) is capable of withstanding several hits from Retriever Sentinels the same type of sentinels you see in Halo Wars 2) in combat with its shielding and armour.
    - Halo: Fleet Battles also describes the SDV Corvette as possessing the ability to cloak itself, which would give it a tremendous advantage against anything its up against. While we do not know the specifics of this cloaking ability, its still something to keep in mind.
    - Again, from the same sources above along with Halo Waypoint's universe entry of the SDV Heavy Corvette, the armaments of the SDV Heavy Corvette are Plasma Turrets, Plasma Cannon Arrays and antimatter mines, and we saw what antimatter charges had done to a CAS Assault Carrier in Halo 2.
    - Besides the "S" classification in its name, there hasn't been anything suggesting that the SDV Heavy Corvette possesses an energy projector, as it would've certainly been something that would be mention in Halo: Fleet Battles, or Halo: Mythos.

    This is an interesting match-up, however, I believe the fighter complement you gave the SDV was a bit bloated. According to Halopedia, the SDV Heavy Corvette's fighter complement is as follows:
    10+ Type-26 Banshees
    10+ Type-27 Banshees
    6+ Type-31 Seraphs
    As for the cleansing beam, Halopedia and Halo Nation seem to contradict each other on that, so to play it safe you'd have to leave it out in the final fight.
    Additionally, there is evidence to suggest that the Acclamator's shield aren't as strong as you may assume, given that Separatist Proton Cannons have been shown to easily pierce their shields.

  • @UnknownSquid
    @UnknownSquid 7 лет назад +59

    The absurd 200gigaton power rating was already rather funny due to how it'd do the Death-Star's job easily, but did he just say that the Acclamator uses freaking *Neutronium* for armour? As in the material that the heart of Neutron Stars are formed from? The material so immensely dense and high energy that if you dropped a single teaspoon of onto Earth's surface, it would not only release energy like a sustained continual nuclear explosion, but also *fall at terminal velocity right through the Earths crust and core as if it weren't even there?* Falling. Through solid rock. Like it was air. It's that freaking heavy. The material that would reach the centre and cause the planet to collapse in upon itself?
    The Acclamator uses THAT for armour? xD
    Yeah, ok, Acclamator wins hands down then. For the reason that the moment it jumps into the system it would immediately override the local stars gravity, and suck both the star and every planet into itself. If the SDV Corvette is anywhere near to the jump point, it gets instantly vaporised merely by the energy that the Acclamator's armour gives off. Weapons aren't needed.

    Also we know one thing for sure about the Supercarrier: It has a shit ton of Fighters.
    Edit: Also, if the SDV has an energy projector, it is possible that it is MUCH weaker that on, say, the cruisers. After all, it IS just a corvette, and probably has more of a "Give cover to troops" or "Go over that city and make sure that the vermin don't fly away" role. It is CERTAINLY small and maneuverable enough to do so, and I imagine it's far easier to get it in atmosphere that a 5km ship.

    you are using Reach as a reference then use Star Wars Rebels as a reference for the Turbolaser power when Thrawns fleet bombs the Rebel base. . . the explosions from the Turbolaser are like frag grenades

    • @billclark5055
      @billclark5055 5 лет назад +2

      What makes you say That? The Rebels had a planetary shield. Plus the cannon novel Tarkin mentions that turbolasers are nuclear. So it really depends on the source. Both Halo and Star Wars are inconsistent in lore, but Star Wars is even more inconsistent. Novels always make things more technical and practical than video games, cutscenes, film, and tv shows that focus on visual gratification.
      In halo wars Forge killed an Arbiter, ODST in the helljumper comic killed an ultra elite and various other elites that thgey outsmarted, marines take down brutes in a few shots in the halo landfall trailer, Sangheili warriors go life and death with marines in Halo Wars cutscenes, remember halo day at the beach and all those mistakes that the elite made who engaged a squad of ODST, and Brutes own elites with little effort in Halo Wars 2 cutscenes despite lore saying that 1 elite= 3 brutes on average.

    • @somethingsomethingelse7706

  • @carmenibanez505
    @carmenibanez505 5 лет назад +8

    200 gigatons although sounding fantastically, absurdly overkill, is what would roughly speaking, be the explosive/power requirement needed to actually and realistically glass a planets surface, and we're not talking a single shot, hundreds if not thousands of shots would be needed.
    A 100,000 megaton (100 gigaton) weapon, would, by my estimation, be powerful enough to set all of New England on fire, or most of California, or all of the UK and Ireland, or all of France, or all of Germany, or both North and South Korea, and so on. So although sounding like a ridiculous number, its really not.

      @alexiel4406 7 лет назад +6

      yes i agree, star wars and Halo battles are quite incompatible, star wars ships are famous for their short engagement range, while Halo ships fight from hundreds of kilometers away. . . and its ironic he wont due a battle that includes a Super Carrier because it doesn't have enough STATs but he will do it with the First order ships. . . . and Star wars "Facts" about their weapon output is sooo unrealistic its annoying

    • @Mikalent
      @Mikalent 7 лет назад +3

      Alexiel Black As he said SW tends to be very out there in stats and has quite a bit of inconsistencies, while halo, only ever being touched by 2 studios really, is much more grounded, we know how fast a bullet is, we know how plasma is generated and reacts to magnetic fields, but SW never fully describes how turbolasers fire, what frequency, how is the energy focused, ect. So typically is halo versus SW matchups Star Wars will typically win because it is more "out there" and very liberal with the numbers it throws around.

    simply put, because "magic" star wars wins.
    the reality is, the "stats" written down simply don't match anything we see.
    Truth is, when star wars was written Lucas based everything on ww2. fighters have a range of 1-2km, battleships have a range of 20 miles, maybe 40, but at long ranges they need a "Spotter" aircraft to provide them targeting data.... because their sensors can't see that far.

    • @lenkagamine4145
      @lenkagamine4145 3 года назад

      not disagreeing that the stats written down dont match what we see but I would like to share two points.
      1) thats true of like, almost all sci-fi not just star wars. A bit less in Halo, but the covenant corvette at least still seems unusually vulnerable, and fights do happen at much shorter ranges than they necessarily should (though not to the extent of star wars)
      2) star wars ships are limited but definitely are much better than WW2. Fighters in star wars (at least some of them) have ranges of 'the entire galaxy' thanks to hyperdrives, battleships can bombard planets from orbit (so they have at least orbital range), and sensors can detect ships in the system provided they have a line of sight.
      Now star wars ships do still have much shorter range and less durability or firepower than alot of things mentioend in stats. But I felt these two points were pertinent.

    • @jenniferstewarts4851
      @jenniferstewarts4851 3 года назад

      @@lenkagamine4145 "fighters in star wars have ranges of the entire galaxy" sure, throw a hyperdrive in a spitfire and it will fly in space and have galactic range. (we see that in DR Who). But battleships bombarding planets, every time we see that in star wars... the exact effect is so limited and accuracy is so bad... Star destroyers open up from orbit and their shots land... somewhere, with in a few miles of the target. The reason here is again what was see... the guns... are manually aimed and sighted by eye. shooting at a planet from orbit is easy... its a rather big target... Shooting at a city from orbit.... a bit harder... Then, have you EVER SEEN what happens when a battleships guns hit a target? when a big shell 300-400mm hits and explodes? A star destroyers turbo lasers blasts look like 100 pound bombs in comparison. a direct hit to a house might destroy a wall and part of the roof. now sure, if 10-20 shots were to it the house it would flatten the building in seconds... BUT shots aren't concentrated... they go everywhere... A planetary shield covering several miles gets bombarded from orbit... and somehow they still MISS the shield... and shots hitting the shield go everywhere.
      proton bombs we see used have blast effects like hand grenades. actually hand grenades are more lethal because of the fragmentation effects... Proton bombs just explode and damage or hurt everything in a 25' area... Simply put, while they "talk up" the effects, what we see never matches what the books, say.

    is it possible that the covenant ship is most weak underneath but not on top which is why the missile salvo was able to take it out?

    • @Raving_Rando
      @Raving_Rando 7 лет назад +2

      Covenant armor isn't that good against missiles and high explosives, but they make up for this with a powerful shield that basically laughs at almost every missile/rocket/bullet you throw at it. The good thing about the Covenant armor is that it can take plasma and energy blasts rather well, unlike the shield which overloads quickly.
      So funnily enough, the SDV Corvette could and likely would take an absolute beating from the Acclamator before finally going down due to its armor.

      And lets not forget a CCS has twin Energy Projectors I doubt a Venator would be in any fighting shape after a pair of those connect. Also Covenant bridges are buried well inside the hull of the ship which many of the star destroyers all feature exposed bridges so a well timed launch of torpedoes hitting just after the projectors could easily take apart the CIC from extended range.
      Also Covenant ships can do in system FTL jumps which once they see the arrangement of weapons on the SD's they would simply jump behind the ship and while vulnerable for a few seconds after the jump would be locked on the ships 6 or could just stay at extended range and let the projectors sing.

    • @adamalexander1496
      @adamalexander1496 7 лет назад +2

      Regardless of flight capablilites, The Covenant's Energy Projectors / Cleansing beams would gut practically any conventional Star Wars ships just like with the UNSC. As per the page on Halopedia, The Energy Projector creates vast electromagnetic disturbances, energy shields are known to fail within several kilometers of an active beam. This fact means certain doom against any shielded covenant ship of considerable size.
      In that case, why don't Covenant shields fail when they use the projector, you might ask? They technically do and don't. The Covenant have to lower a part of their shields around the projector in order to fire, but not the shields of the entire ship. Also their shields don't fail because their shield systems are plasma based. Although this means covenant shields are technically susceptible to super heated plasma/ cleansing beams, this weakness is preferred rather than having their shields outright *fail* when said projector is in use. I would judge the Star Wars equivalent of plasma shielding would be "Thermal" shields.

    Have yet to watch the video, but I’m putting my money on the Covenant SDV Corvette. Mainly because we know that Covenant plasma weapons are particularly effective against energy shields, and also because they are well known for cutting through some very tough armor. The Acclamator is a respectable ship and I think it will do fairly well, but I just don’t see it coming out on top. Unless I’m missing something, of course.
    Edit: Wow, I was WAY off lol. Had no idea that the SDV Corvette lacks a shield, so that was quite a surprise. However, in light of that, I think the video is correct to crown the Acclamator victorious. Given the breakdown, I now think that the most an SDV Corvette could do against an Acclamator is fight it to a standstill, or at best to the point of mutual destruction.

You can feel the massive vibrations after each attack underground during the mission. kilo40 commented "Man how do you stop that thang?!" It doesnt give detail to what FPF is other than a danger close defensive attack ment to stop the corvette.

    SDV Class Corvettes are actually pretty tough buggers. If you read the wiki about them, SDVs actually don't have a cleansing beams as they are too small to power the weapon, but it still has enough power to take on an Acclamator Assault Ship, at range. Covenant vessels aren't very good at close range combat as their main weapons, Plasma torpedoes, actually require space to turn and hit targets. A single Plasma torpedo could basically melt through an Accamator's hull, as it does with UNSC vessels. A single plasma torpedo is enough to melt through a Paris class Heavy Frigate's hull, which is made of titanium A alloy, which can take rounds from ballistic weapons, like Archer missiles and 57mm cannons and laugh about. The human vessels are meant to take on human vessels, so they have sloped armored, which is thick and capable of deflecting or absorbing blasts from missiles or round from a cannon, you can't do that with plasma though. The only saving grace the Acclamator has is its shield. But I doubt that would allow it to win, as plasma torpedoes are used at long range and it could only take two or three, due to a CCS class battle cruiser only taking nine before its shields failing.

Banshees were stashed above the hanger entrances on either side of the ship inside shielded compartments.

    I think that with the Covenant's mastery of Slipspace travel, I think a commander would just slip into the Acclimator's blind spot, and take out its engines with sustained fire. With the shields failing, the ship would be then vulnerable to Boarding parties, something the covenant is well versed in doing to human ships. then it really comes down to Covenant Infantry vs Republic Infantry, cloaked elites, hunters, buggers, grunts and shield jackles vs the various intrantry of the republic abord a ship would be interesting, then again, i dont think they would try to capture it, prob just hide a bomb on board and Boom.
