  • Quick demo of my homes Wink setup running. Getting into home automation, showing my current setup. Mainly set up for automated lights, but also have my Nest cam, Nest Thermostat paired along with a GE in wall dimmer, and Leviton Dimmer. Much more to come, this is the early stages.
    More to come!

    I love the unmade bed and nose marks on the front door side window, toys on the floor. Keepin' it real. :D Thanks for the walkthrough at day and night! Nice setup. I hope you can make some $$ from RUclips to buy more smart stuff!

      Kids and a dog, all of us working to make ends meet = unmade bed and smudges on windows...love you guys but I'm not about to make sure our house looks perfect just to demo our smart home lol. Man, I wish I made a penny from youtube! Im hardly a video amateur at best, I have yet to see a dollar from youtube. I can see what takes these guys with channels so much time work and effort to actually make enough profit on youtube. Cheers!

      Mike Dula I wasn't suggesting you clean up. Sorry you don't make money from it. Time is money!

      alphamav - No i know im kidding. Time is money, i like being part of the HA community and like sharing what i do to others. Making the kind of money some make on here to quit their job would be something else!

    Great watch Mike, thanks. I'm just starting out and the Wink v1 controller has me interested just on price. I know V2 is out but it's almost double of V1, I know it's still a good price but I'm looking at budget for now. Whats the difference between the GE and Leviton dimmers? Also I think I'm going with smart switches rather than smart bulbs to save on costs, I already have most of the house running LED lights so I think that is the best move.

    I'm having trouble understanding just one thing. I have my basement set up with Recessed Dimmable lights, but they are not smart bulb lights. if i install Wink, will i still be able to dim the lights since they are Dimmable?

    Hi Mike, thanks for the really informative walk through. This is helping a lot as I'm putting our Wink home together. May I ask why the in-wall controller and not an Amazon Echo or Dot?

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  8 лет назад

      +AlanaWPiper Good question! I think in another one of my videos I commented just this. I got the relay as a way for my family to more easily control the house and not worry about having a phone on them. Then I got an Echo, and I used IFTTT integration which worked well, but now that echo natively supports wink AND nest. So living with both I use the Echo 99% of the time and I can honestly say I could live without the Relay. Only time I use the relay is for shortcuts to set scenes (when Im going to bed, or getting late) which the Echo does not do. Yet. I had planned on using both, mostly because I thought the relay would be the go to point for people to change devices and the "voice control" would be a cool fun gimick thing. Turned out the complete opposite. I find that the convenience and ease of use to use echo, this is what we use echo for the most. BTW. I LOVE my echo.

    Mike, how are you liking the Wink Hub and Relay with all your devices? I'm looking to get a hub and Wink's compatibility list impresses me. I also have Nests but plan to go to EcoBee3's, I'm trying to decide how I want to do my lights, with Lutron or Leviton or GE dimmers etc, looks like I can do any of them? What if I just want on/off no dimming, are there smart switches that do that? I'm also wanting to do a garage door and locks after lights. Hoping Wink will help me out there.

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  8 лет назад

      +Chris McCord Chris. There are smart switches that just turn on and off, no dimming. GE makes one as well as like the one Im using, which is Leviton binary switch like this on www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-Decora-Z-Wave-Controls-15-Amp-Scene-Capable-Switch-White-Ivory-Light-Almond-R02-DZS15-1LZ/205298583. Sounds like Wink and or Smartthings is the way to go. I went with wink because I already had Nest products I wanted to integrate with my HA....So far, Im loving it, there are some growing pains with software changes etc..but its always getting better and improving, which any product right now will be going through.

    Thanks for sharing. I'm considering buying the Wink system. Do you feel that the outdoor lights could be brighter? That seems pretty dim to me.

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  8 лет назад

      I think they have more than enough brightness. I keep them dimmed to about 35% because its so bright. Also the camera ajust's to the lights being that its so dark out and they are so bright. I admit the video makes them look dim. This is not the case though....Its not a 1500+ lumen halogen, but its plenty. I almost never turn them up to 100% unless im outside working. Good luck! I think you'r really like wink.

    Thanks for the demo, it's has been helpful to me. Your outside garage lights, have they worked good in the cold and wet environment? How cold does it get in your climate?

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  7 лет назад +1

      allag3 - In north Texas it gets up to 100+ in the summer and its been down to the teens in the winter and ive had no issues for a solid year now. Really suprised they've lasted as they are NOT rated for outdoor.

      Thanks Mike , I appreciate your prompt response. Here in the Northeast where it's not uncommon for single digit temperatures, these indoor only bulbs will get put to the test.

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  7 лет назад +1

      I cant believe they have survived here, especially due to the extreme changes from 75 degrees to 15 in 12 hours. For the price, they would be worth a shot to test! good luck.

    Being me, I would want all bulbs to be able to go red for night-vision retention :D lol

    How did you hook up relay to ceilling fan. Wink site say not to hook up a fan to realy, just lights.

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  8 лет назад

      Been working fine for me and I regularly cycle it on and off. I dont recall reading that when I installed mine, I wonder if some had issues and the instructions we're changed. Hook-up at your own risk I guess, but for me, works great.

    Thanks for the video. Is Wink reliable? I've been reading negative comments in Amazon mostly about pairing 3rd party items. As for me, I'm doing the traditional alarm fee for less than $20 month which includes z wave automation but fees add up:( I'm thinking of switching to Wink bc of ecobee3, Lutron, Schlage, Nest camera and smoke alarm, etc.

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  8 лет назад

      Yes its reliable. I dont use 3rd party devices so I cant say much on that, I haven't yet found a need for 3rd party as wink supports everything I have or need (I too use the Schlage, Nest, Lutron, GE switches, Cree bulbs, etc) For me personally its been great. At first it had some bugs...slow responses at time, server non available messages that have all been fixed with software updates and its been dead reliable, I just dont worry about it ever. Not once ever was it down. We did have a power outtage once that required me to reboot the hub but thats it, I dont blame the hub. Using Wink for a security system can be a trick though and I have two nest cams that I end up paying a fee for anyway. It can be done with robots and some slick planning, but out of the box its not a security system. There is a facebook user group for wink that I'm in that has been a huge help, there will always be haters, but that forum has a lot of info and suggestions on how to set it up and use the most out of it. I love my Wink hub, and once its set up, there really is no need to keep making changes.

      I started playing with it recently. We have the new, smaller hub. Twice, bulbs lost their pairing with the hub. One re-paired immediately, the second one took several tries before it linked back up. That may have been an issue with the Wink app on one of our devices. When I killed the app, the bulb paired.
      I do see occasional slow responses, Given that the tiny LG L34C phones are $10 at my local supermarket, it's pretty cheap to use them as WINK wall switches everywhere.

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  8 лет назад

      Sorry to hear that. I didnt know the hub was re-engineered, and they made a smaller one. The link pairing issue I've had was with cree bulbs only. When you say it linked back up, was this from actually re-adding the device as new, or it did it automatically? How far are these devices from the hub? Are they zigbee or zwave?

    • @neuromonkey
      @neuromonkey 8 лет назад

      I'm using only GE bulbs. When I said "re-adding," I meant that I had to add the device as new. The devices are in opposite corners of the same room, but it appears to be an issue with this one particular bulb.
      A month later, and that one bulb un-pairs quite often. A few times it hasn't needed to be re-named and put back into its group, but usually the hub or bulb loses the connection completely. My other three GE bulbs have done that once or twice, but they get all their info back when I reset and re-pair.

    Will the two switches becomes smart? Can I turn on/off from the wink mobile app?

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  8 лет назад

      Yes, you can control just as any other smart device, add it to groups, shortcuts, robots etc..

    • @gerardozapata7981
      @gerardozapata7981 8 лет назад

      Thank you for the answer, I control lights and garage door with the wink app, with NO wink hub because I use the TCP & MyQ controllers, do you know if I will need a Wink hub to control the two switches on the Wink relay?

    • @HOUSEOFDULA
      @HOUSEOFDULA  8 лет назад

      Good question. Might give wink a call just to be sure but I "think" you do not. Reason being, the relay can act as a simple "limited" hub in itself. 1-844-WINKAPP. Sorry, Im just not 100% sure,
