Just so you know the reason for the mic and speaker is if you have 2 or more you can use it as a intercom. They recently announced that on their web page as a software update for all wink users.

The plugs are called wago's. And that's not a junction box, it's a driver. I definitely want to get something like this setup in my home. So cheap and so modern!

I bought 4. Used them for a year and tossed all into the trash.

Thanks for the video. Im actually looking into getting this set up. Can you please tell me if you can connect more than one relay in your home and have everything synced together? As you were saying in the video, I love being able to access everything from my phone, but obviously your not always walking around with it. So, my thinking was it would be nice to have 3 or 4 of these around main areas of the home. Especially having one upstairs so you can turn your downstairs lights on before walking down so no one needs to look for the switches in the dark. Do you have more than one? Also, what dimmer switches and or outlets did you decide to use? Thanks in advance!

You bet. Wink just released an update to the relay that allows for them to work as an intercom. You press the mic icon on the screen and have the ability to talk and broadcast yourself to the other relays. In fact, if you go to wink.com they are selling the relays super cheap in a two pack 149.00. This is not too far from what I paid for my single one. But I cant say that I've tried the intercom feature, so not sure how well it works and or responds. But to work as a global location for your shortcuts and switches, sounds like it would do exactly what you need. As far as dimmers and outlets, its mostly a mix,...I actually do not have any switched outlets other than the quirky power strip (29 bucks on amazon btw). But I have a single GE in wall dimmer, two leviton in wall dimmers, and a leviton binary in wall on/off switch. I like the leviton switches better than GE IMO. The indicator LED for the dimmer is a nice feature.

Is this still working good? I've been debating pulling the trigger on getting one but the fact that it's discontinued and Amazon reviews aren't the greatest has got me on the fence.

+Jonathan DerDerian to be honest, yes it works okay, but there are not many really enough features to make it worth while yet. It has an internal speaker and mic which could be used but isn't. Would make a great door chime! or voice command. There is a built in temp sensor that works, the built in humidity sensor is way off, as others have reported as well. I put it on the wall for my family, my wife uses it sometimes to turn all lights off. I have an echo and to be honest I use it all the time! Its faster, and easier to just yell out a command. For the price tough, its worth it, looks cool, converts the outlet to a smart switch, and looks pretty good on the wall.

Found mine new at TJ Maxx for $39 dollars... didn't know what it was but seeing it was one sale from original price when it came out for $299, I bought it. Great to see as it works with my lights and nest therm and alarm 😁

Man thats a great deal. I need to look a TJ Maxx around here for one. I'd get 2 or 3 for that price.

Mike Dula I know right, I'll be heading back over today and also checking out the marshals across the street as they seem to carry the same stuff most of the time, maybe pick up a second to gift or keep, not sure yet.

I'm installing this on what appears to be an end of run. I think it is hooked up right. I put the wires in place and it is glowing green. I click the test button and it turns on the light. But it only leaves light on while I'm pressing the switch. It doesn't hold the light in the on position. Is that CORRECT or am I wired wrong? I can't find anywhere that says whether the test button should make the light stay on or if it is just a momentary switch. SO FRUSTRATING. I don't want to install it the rest of the way and find out I have it wired wrong.

+Tom Steele Sounds like its hooked up corectly if you have a green light. Try swapping the black hot wires (I am NOT an electrician, do so at your own risk!) but, Ive had smart wall switches (not the relay) reversed and I could never get it working, I was almost certain I knew which black wire went to the ceiling fan, but I was wrong, tried swapping the black hot wires and all worked fine. Not saying this is your issue, but check. Just make sure your white neutral is correct of coarse. The test button, if I remember correctly, switches it on and off like you are mentioning, like a normal switch. You should hear a relay inside the control box "click" on and off as you hit the test button. If you dont hear that its possibly the relay (relay component inside, not the product) is bad. But Wink support has been good to me, although Ive never called about the Relay, might be worth giving them a call.
Let me know how it goes, good luck!

+Mike Dula Thanks, I had it wired correctly, I just couldn't find anywhere that explained whether the test buttons were supposed to be momentary switches or if the light was supposed to stay on.
Apparently it is just a momentary switch. I have the worst time with instructions that aren't detailed. I try to overthink it. I didn't want to put it all together and it be wrong.

+Tom Steele Good deal, so its working now for you?

    • @TomSteele93
      @TomSteele93 8 лет назад

Yes it is working. I am finding that most of this stuff involves a hugely frustrating install with poor instructions and lots of bad software (app) design and frustration. But once I manage to figure it out, it works fairly well.
      Thanks,

The Wink Hub is not required. This can stand alone and talk to WiFi and ZigBee devices.

Crazy right!? I saw them for $25! Thats worth it just for the switches, but I admit even the switches are sometime slow to respond.
