Great video Thom ! Keep it up👊🏻 . I’m a recent father of a 7 month old baby , and I can’t wait to share my lego passion with my own son. I’m a medieval sets fan , castle, lord of the rings, hobbit , dungeons and dragons , etc. I began building lego 7 years ago and the last 2 years have been really good for the medieval lovers. Happy to see your next videos!
I've really grown to love the castle theme. My son, who was born in 85, had mainly the Space Theme when he was a kid. I wish he still had his monorail!
I'd be proud to be a member of a Senior Fan of LEGO. Second, for seniors who are car enthusiasts, there are several other themes that are really enjoyable also. That Castle set looks really interesting.
Lego makes sets for adults too. The Botanical range is a good example in which I’m collecting and almost have all the sets. The flowers look very good and are fun to build.
I'm 55 now and I've been playing with Lego since 5. Castle is one of my favorite themes, and you have a cool selection display there, even a little old Forestemen gem next to the new one, I think! May be good stuff for further episodes! A wonderful video, thank you!!
I've only recently decided to become a serious collector (not that serious) at age 54, it seemed like a hobby that was easier on an increasingly less dexterous set of fingers. I am tracking down some of the recent complex sets that I've been excited by. I really ought to add this one to my list too. Also, I was a big fan of Riptide, Thom. Nice to see you.
I totally agree on this castle set. I myself have bought 4 of those sets and build a great MOC I found on BrickLink. I’m 48 years old and normally like the LEGO Technic super cars sets. Also build the Mercedes G500 recently. But I do think the castle set is more playable. I even took my old knights from my childhood out of the storage boxes. Keep up this channel 👍
Lego also does art sets. I have the Galaxy, and the Starry Night. These are really fun to build and definitely worth the money. I now have mine hanging up
What a nice video to come across appreciate your insight to the old Legos. I'm currently working on a lord of the rings rohan moc or a small town from the book and it's hooked me into it. I can see me being your age still collecting. The medevil village was a good one, expensive but an amazing build.
I am waiting this very day for the UPS truck to deliver the village! After reading your opinion I’m really looking forward to building it! Thanks for your comment! Happy building!
Target has this set for 79.99, but that is for in store purchase. Picked another one up yesterday. Also, there are some rebrickable versions that are great. Some require 5 of this set to build one massive castle. Walmart is having 50% off in store clearance on certain Lego sets. Picked up several sets.
I love this set! At 50, it’s a favorite to build. A while back I discovered a websight with lots of Lego Mocs (Stands for my own creation). Rebrickable has over 150 alternate builds for this set alone. You do need to pay for some, but a lot are free. It’s been a fun resource for my daughter and I to get even more fun out of the sets we own.
This set is really popular. There are alternative models on Rebrickable made with 3 or even 5+ of these set, and they look awesome. If you didn't get it yet, I suggest you get the HUGE $400 castle. That will be something you will remember for ages and the grandkids will have something to play with when they are older.
I’ve recently got into Lego and I’m 50 years old. My first set I got a few months ago and that was the Tuxedo Cat (21349). This is a black and white cat that looks amazing. A fantastic and fun build. Not hard to build if you carefully follow the instructions which are clearly displayed. Lego has an app where you can see the instructions for your set in 3D which helps in aiding you in building but it’s not necessary.
Yes, I'd like to do a video on that app. Do you find that the sets that have full 3D app instructions are easier to build than the ones that just copy the paper instructions into the app?
Just a few things to add . All Lego bricks fit with each other .If you get a set from 40 or even 60 years ago ,they with still work .And with 3 in 1 sets ,besides the 3 builds ,you can build alternate builds . I have gotten a lot of 3 in 1 shark sets , 3 in 1 lion sets and 3 in 1 T- rex sets .and built a lot of figures . 3 in 1 sets have a lot more value than most people think .So instead of AFOL'S you think we should be SFOL'S ?Great video .take care
Great recommendation! This set is awesome. Picked it up a bit more than a year ago and have enjoyed it a lot. The hinges really add a lot to the set. Have you used the LEGO Builder app for instructions before? It gives a cool 3D view that can make them a bit easier to parse. It could also be used if you wanted to rebuild a 3-in-1 but misplaced the physical instructions. Looking forward to more videos!
Yes, I find the app with instructions that have been digitized (meaning animated digital directions) are so much easier for me to follow, because I can rotate the image and really see where the brick is placed. How about you?
I am old guy as well. Lego is expensive, even with their double VIP points when offered. ( Equals' about 10% on future purchase. ) I only use for their exclusive sets. I buy usually from big brand retailers who normally have sales at up to 20% discount. I subscribe to their email listing to get the" 'heads up" & also join their individual loyalty programmes for that extra bit.. Plus suggest Duplo for the your little ones. .
Great video! I’m a huge Lego Castle fan, it’s all that I build. That Medieval Castle set is a great set, it was a fun build and it has a great number and variety of parts to make your own designs and creations. (Plus it has my favorite faction, the Black Falcons, the first faction I ever had when I was a kid). I hope you get a chance to get the Medieval Blacksmith. I’m designing a whole village based off that set, along with using a bunch of pieces from the Medieval Castle. Is that a Forestmen set I saw in the background? My second favorite faction! I took the Lego Treehouse (which was an exceptionally fun build) and turned it into a Forestman hideout. Of course, I’m turning that into a village as well with other builds in the same style for the Forestmen. I look forward to more of your videos! Happy building!
@@tbsince1954 yes, I wish they had more modern Forestmen sets. The good thing is that you can purchase the Forestmen Minifigure parts and their shield on Pick-A-Brick for now… which I do regularly 😂
You know, I saw that tree house set and thought the same thing--I could easily mod it into a Forestman set by adding minifigs from pick a brick! I don't have the blacksmith set, but am eyeing the village set. I have the big castle (Lion's Knight), which I haven't built and am excited by that prospect. And one of those little Forestmen sets is an original, the same one they updated in the recent GWP set. I'm already running out of space, which I'm sure is a common dilemma! :-)
@@tbsince1954 I just got the village set! It looks great. It’s next in line to be built after I finish with a horse stable that I’m creating for the Blacksmith. Definitely looking forward to building that one! I’d like to hear your opinion on the Lions Knights Castle when you start working on it. It most certainly is easy to run out of space when Lego is your passion 😂
I found the colours in this set a bit too vibrant for my liking, so I replaced the more garish ones. There’s an article on Brickset showing how to tone the colours down. Looks a lot better.
I'm 37 now and I bought this exact castle after not building lego for 25 years. I can easily say, Im hooked again :D. Got all the Jurassic park classic boxes aswell.
If you're into this kind of thing, there is also the Viking Village set (21343) that is really fun to build and looks great. It is great value for money, with tons of printed parts, a unique style and lots of accessories for the 4 viking minifigures. I think it is one of the best sets that Lego has ever released in the medieval theme and I believe it is also set to retire somewhere next year.
@@tbsince1954 The boat is okay, but I don't think it is in any way comparable to the village. I built my own boat with a ton of brown pieces, rowing oars and a team of vikings to go with the village. It is so much more fun adding to existing sets than just having the set on it's own, in my opinion. I think you will enjoy the viking village though, it is a bit of a harder to build than the 3 in 1 Castle, but nothing outrageous.
nice. 3in1, decent piececount and pricing, in its EOL (end of life) are very good reason for this set but i feel like the video is missing a differentiation and would benefit from making out what sets this set appart from sets like 10497 or 31208. the viedo feels more like an add even tho it is the passion that fuels it but id loved to have a little bit more contra. lego can be addictive and will suck alot of money out of your wallet. is it money well spend in a world that gets more digital every day? absolutly! i love seeing those crusaders and black falcon along the forestman GWP and the golden idol. if you love an IP, have an intresst in architecture, art, nature or space maybe sets from those themes might be a better entry point. there are alot of options and it doesnt even have to be lego. the are many quality products by companies that offer sets with bricks in the system. 3in1 is often more generic in its parts and thats one of its strenghs and weaknesses at the same time. one thing i really wanna emphasise is the idea of rebuilding yor sets. its a core feature of lego and especcialy modern lego can be very detailed and makes it feel more like a model kit that you build once and are content with the final product. but lego is more and that often gets overlooked nowadays. in this sense 3in1 is very well suited for starters to allready have this wider perspective that someone that gets 31208 might miss out on. over the past 10-15 years Lego agressivly focused adult marked with bigger and more complex sets that arent primarily meant for play but legos nature is a toy. toys are a tools for play and that is beneficial at any age imo. but wether creativity is fostered or not other benifits of building with lego still remain even if it is just used as a model kit. one sidenote (that has been mentioned as i read the comments) on the rewards progamm and how to aquire lego. insiders here is about a 10% dicount if you get double points and you might wanna factor in GWPs but if you manage to find stuff on clearance/sale (very commen at other retailers) much higher discounts can be achieved. best thing to do is getting a job at lego if you are more bound to the brand and lack willings for other brands that produce interlocking bricks that are compatible. but "hunting" discounts or getting a job at lego also requires patience and is not suitable if you just wanna get the thing :) this comment is getting long so just enjoy my best wishes for future content and keep enjoying the bricks and what the mean to you.
