I simply can't believe that 3D printers cost as much as a mid range LEGO set! Shop Bambu Lab 3D printers here: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=2282157&u=4389544&m=138211&urllink=&afftrack= (affiliate link) It's been a couple of days since the filming of this video... and I've been printing like crazy! Haha it is incredible.
You should simply replace the front bins with custom fitting bins, this way the rest is all squares but the front row is rectangle! If you have ways to measure that drawer and include the slope on the bottom side of the drawer into the design, that would be sweet!
If you haven't ordered additional spools yet I believe Bambu labs has files available to print a reusable spool. Also, if you mostly plan to print in white it's worth it to have more than one white spool per printer because the printers can automatically switch to a second spool when the first one runs out.
I haven’t made it through the vid yet but the 3D printer could be super useful to print support structure for the mountain that has studs on top with clutch power. Probabaly cheaper than wood structures and way more solid in the final construction. Love the city keep it up! 👏🏼
From a first hand experance, you need to find the right stl and work from them. I have many failed prints from trying to make some lego compatible set up.
You talked about making a funnel for putting LEGO in a bag, you could make one that attaches to the table and the bag attaches to the funnel. Then you can just scoop all the logo off the table right onto the bag.
Something that will absolutely change the game for you is Vase mode! the printer never stops and just goes around and around until it finishes. It is by far the fastest way of printing containers, and on top of that you can increase your line width to make them stronger, as well as layer hight to print EVEN FASTER! Good luck man!
When you go to print the small boxes for the drawer I would suggest a small tab on the back of them to assist in removing the small box. Since the tolerance inside the drawer is going to be as close as possible it would assist in removal. It would only have to be about 1/4 - 1/2 inch high so the loss of height would be minimal but would allow you to easily remove them when full.
You should print a little extra tab on the rim of one side of each cup. That way you can grab the cup you want more easily. If you have a full drawer of cups that are fit the drawer well, then it won’t be fun removing them without some sort of tab that sticks out above the cup.
I am very happy you discovered 3D printing :-) I started it 2017, and ending my dark ages with the start of the epidemic, I can confirm 3D printing & LEGO just were meant for each other :-) if I may, a bit of advice: for tools, storage and a whole lot of stuff the A1 or A1 mini ist perfect - but not for lego pieces. the bricks are made of ABS, wich is more flexible than the PLA you got, wich is extremely hard. so, base plates, bases for mountains, rails, windows-frames, hats, weapons etc etc should be printed in ABS to fit the bricks perfectly, and you cant do that really with an open frame printer, the prints will warp or move off the bed altogether. You need an enclosed printer, and the P1S from bambulab is perfect for this. Yes, it is more expensive then the open A1s, and ABS is a little more expensive than PLA - but the results are stunning, fit great to injection moulded ABS bricks, and can withstand sunlight (PLA starts to go soft and deforms above 50° C)
Make a 3D printed Lego sorter! Each level has bigger and bigger holes in the bottom of boxes that click together, to filter out Lego parts to sort! I did something similar and it made my sorting so much easier.
I started watching you when I was in 7th grade at the peak of my lego obsession. I am currently a junior in high school. It's been a little while since I watched any lego content but this video popped up on my feed. All I have to say is OH MY GOD the current studio set up is insane!! You should truly be proud of yourself of how far you've come!
Hey bricksie, love your videos. I just recently discovered your channels when I broke my wrist I’m a mountain bike crash about a month and a half ago. Your vids helped me pass the waiting time, and inspired me to work on my own Lego city! Thank for the vids Bricksie, you really helped me out.
I mostly 3D stuff for the nascar diecasts I collect. The fact is once you get a system down, it becomes really easy to just adjust some dimensions and go. Glad youre enjoying it
Very excited to see you take this step. I've made countless mini-figure stands, wall mounts to position sets in dynamic poses, and internal structural reinforcements to reduce bulk block needs. Even with the consumer printers coming out these days, there are still going to be hiccups and failures - don't let it discourage you too much.
For the storage boxes, why not make the sides mesh-like so that the colour of the bricks inside shows through. Add 1 or 2mm holes in a grid. Otherwise all your storage cabinets are just going to look white. Also you can custom design supports for your city project. I like the idea of printing your own rails to fix some of the layout problems.
Hey Jordan, I'm glad they sponsored this as well. Always been curious about 3D printing and whether I should buy one. Never put much time too much time into it but just couldn't really come up with what all I would print on it. But just during your short look at some of the Lego related stuff is making me think a lot more about it. Especially being able to make the storage bins. I'd like to do something like that just in general to organize some of my desk drawers instead of stuff just piled on top of each other. The funnel idea is GREAT for getting lego parts into the compartments, maybe a couple different sizes would work super good. I'm very much looking forward to more videos with what all you've been able to print with these. I might just grab one myself....
Started 3D printing a few years back and got back into it this year because of Lego ! You can make so much for Lego and also print Lego related stuff which is fun
An idea for the custom funnel, pharmacists use a flat sorting tray with one corner cut with a pouring spout to count pills, maybe something like this would be handy for pouring small parts into bags?
It’s so crazy that these printers are plug and play now and have such high quality. It used to take an hour to build one and even longer to edit the programs. I’m still using my 5 year old ender 3. I remember seeing my first about 12 years ago for $300 with terrible quality. Now you can get a very good quality one for $150, and one that makes borderline production parts for $800.
Holy cow! What an amazing idea! I totally didn't even think about this. But to have a 3D printer making containers for Lego is brilliant! I have always had trouble finding good containers that fit well. Thanks so much!
3d printing custom Lego pieces are by far the coolest thing I've done with my X1 carbon. But you got to have the time and patience to print many different variants to make sure you get that size just right depending on how your printer is calibrated. Also making sure you have the correct filament and you add the ironing smooth option will always make it look a whole lot more authentic. I've designed and printed a custom 2x22 flat black piece to finish the photo frame edges on one of my Lego wall arts.
I've seen some other youtubers have really good results with 3D Printed Lego track. There tends to be some issues with clutch power, but once connected to rails on either side and some ballasting they're not going anywhere. They're great for geometry that is otherwise annoying or impossible with official track. Crossings, switchtracks that enable a good yard stack, etc. You can even print a connector from normal rail to the individual rails that are in that old train shed.
if you're gonna make these containers you might wanna make an piece that will clip them together so they wont move... or if you want to have them be easier to take out you might wanna add an lip on the containers so you can make labels for every color but most likely so its easier to take out your drawer... :)
Instead of getting rid of all your 4X containers (the ones you said are hard to pour out just 1 section), you can print a lid that goes over 3 of the compartments that's shaped like a 2x2 corner plate. That way, you can hold the lid tight to the container while you spill out whichever compartment you desire. And there's no need to get rid of all the stuff you already bought in the past!
You could fill that gap with an inch wide sign/label for whatever kinds of pieces are in the drawer. Could be all artistic as well, with lego built into it.
I never thought about buying two printers to speed up workflow but these things have gotten so much more affordable that it’s possible for people on a budget. Will definitely use your links if I end up purchasing.
Man is that cool and so helpful in any LEGO studio! You for sure got my attention and I will be looking into getting a 3D printer set up. My parts will love me forever.
There are 3D printable shelves/stands for Brickheadz available. I have a Bambu Carbon and have been happy with the stands and they don't require and Lego parts
At first I thought you were going to print LEGO with it, and I did not like the idea. But later, when I saw the video with the containers, I quite liked it!
This video is going to be a massive marketing win for Bambu Labs (Not that they need it cos come on!!)... Love your enthusiasm about a new found hobby 😁 I also have just purchased my first one which is the A1 mini 😉
Cool addition, I use mine for printing stands and wall brackets. Not sure if others may have mentioned it but not sure if those table legs will be a little wobbly. Can affect the print quality a bit, but should be minimal. All depends if these are for show pieces or not.
I got my husband a 3D resin printer for Christmas last year. He does Warhammer 40K. It’s great for printing out figures, bits to attach to figures (guns, flags, etc) and terrain. It’s the wave of the future.
@@356z Resin comes in bottles off Amazon. It’s pretty cheap since he’s just printing tiny figures. You need to cure the resin items with either a UV light or in the sun.
Even better for a funnel, create something rectangular shaped that can run along the end of the table and secure itself around the edge of the table. Have that funnel into a smaller opening and add something to hold the bag via hooks or tension. I have found a digital caliber to be a very important purchase for designing my own stuff to print. If something claims to be 12” x 12” it is unlikely to be exact, especially since you have resolution with the printer down to fractions of a mm. Measuring is really important.
I got the P1S for my birthday from my wife and of course I needed to get it a little brother so I got the mini lol then 3 days later I had to get the A1 ;) Great printers!
Bricksie, a couple tips from beginner to beginner, I would recommend turning off fans if you have any in the room with the printer, and keep the filament dry. Also oil from your fingers transfers easily to the build plate, so I recommend giving it a couple sprays with rubbing alcohol and rub it in with a microfiber towel, also keeping a couple tools around the printer is a very good idea. Some prints can also take days to make, so make sure to check how many hours/minutes it takes to print.
3D printing has been a real benefit to several groups of Lego fans who need specific pieces that Lego doesn't make. Trains is a commonly cited one, but I also love how much 3D printing has helped the Bionicle community!
My first thought was hidden structure pieces for mountains. Storage sounds great. We really are in the new millennium, plus 1/4 through the 21st century. It's mind boggling!
I think those are perfect for the sterilite drawers! Even with the gaps. You don't want the fit to be too tight to get your fingers around the individual containers.
Thanks! Just placed my order thanks to you. Let me know how you fill in the front section of the drawers, obviously i have the same drawers following your lead.
I've got the arm headphones stand, it's awesome! I'm buying my first 3d printer in December and have already started my printing wishlist, there is the cutest 3d minifig bookmark I really want. I can't wait it looks like so much fun! Congrats on your new hobby, I look forward to seeing some amazing items made for the giveaways on whatnot ❤
My son bought himself a 3D printer last year and it is awesome. I couldn't believe how affordable it was, and the creativity it has sparked in him is breathtaking. He has a list of print "orders" from friends and family he can't keep up with, it's hilarious.
My son has been 3D printing for years and made me a huge Master Sword with a metal core. It is fantastic. I'm interested to see how you like this as time goes by, that is more accurate than a first view.
I've always been intrigued by 3D printers as they are useful for miniaturists to make miniatures that you can't find in shops. If you're able to do so, you could sell Lego storage items on etsy or a similar platform as people who don't have a printer will find them useful. I have some of those clear containers for art and craft supplies and although they do make organizing and finding things easier, it is frustrating when you have gaps in drawers that you could have used for storage if the dimensions fitted the drawer better.
Hi @Bricksie! Congratulations and welcome to 3d printing. I noticed that the front of your drawers has a curve. I like your idea of a custom tray that would fit there!
I had a busy weekend so I'm just watching this one now. I was wondering when you would get into this. 😁 And looking at how you're using it and the prices of these printers... well, let's just say it's giving me ideas I didn't need to have. 🤣 My best friend has been using 3D printers for a while now for his miniatures wargaming hobby, and as a former tech nerd I'd been avoiding learning more about them because as a gamer and LEGO builder I really didn't need a third expensive hobby related to both. 😂
You could design a funnel that's shaped like a dust pan that has a tube shape at the small end. That way you could scoop the lego easier from the table.
3d printing is game changer I'm working on start a small online shop soon with my 3 d printer. I need at least 2 more.printer to carrier the work load.
I would recommend getting and learning fusion 360. It was the first CAD software that I learned and it was easy. It is very intuitive and there are a ton of help videos online if you need some more guidance on the more complex aspects of the program. You can create your own STL files that you can import to your printer software so you can have more control over you model designs.
I just realized that if you make special printed items to make custom supports to make the mountains within the lego area, and you can forgo the heavy use of wood. So if you can design a Custom support to set the Concepts for the Mountain on, it would be awesome. You can even make them work with the lego plates, and you can save all the wood for the Subway Planned,
My son is studying for a degree in Robitics, and he's bought himself a 3d printer x my friends son has made me millennium falcon earings from his printer. Your going to have so much fun xx
You could make something like a pill sorting/counting tray. You dump the lego onto the tray and sort to the side which has a built in funnel to dill what ever container of choice
16:24 You could try printing your containers in "Vase mode", and then it'll just do one continuous line for the container and print much faster. You will only get a single wall, though!
I’ve been looking at 3D printers for years but always felt overwhelmed…these look great and they look fairly simple to use. I might have to pick one up after I sell some more minifigs.
Fantastic addition to the space! Look like pretty high quality printers as well! I have many years of experience 3D printing as well as in mechanical design and I'd be happy to assist with the design of custom items for 3D printing if you ever have a need. Keep up the amazing content!
So excited you got into 3d printing!! Bambu lab is a great brand. If you want to print in other materials, bambu has other printers. Elegoo is a great brand for resin printing (more detail). If you want to download models, I recommend printable or cults 3d. The best modeling software is blender, but the one you were using seems pretty good. Not sure if bambu has their own slicing software (for converting models into 3d print files) but elegoo cura is a great one if they don’t.
I’m usually not one to go for sponsored products…BUT this printer combo looks super great! I’ve been 3D printing for years but have been wanting to upgrade to something more “all in one”. I’ll definitely be checking this out!
Well, after doing some more research, I decided to pull the trigger and order the A1 Combo. Again, I usually don't go for sponsored products, but it just seems like the 3D printing community had SO much good stuff to say about Bambu. Very excited to upgrade from my old Ender 3! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Bricksie!
For the empty space in the back I would if it would fit put a container big enough for the back and then you get fit longer plates on it that can’t fit in the regular containers
I've been hearing a lot of good things about Bambu lab's printers. Something to consider when my Ender 5 needs replacing. I would suggest adding some sort of finger grab to your 2X2 container design to make it easier to get one container out at a time.
Man! I can tell that you are truly pleased with your sponsor, and if I had the money I would totally bey one of these. But I'm saving up for some other things at the moment.
I simply can't believe that 3D printers cost as much as a mid range LEGO set! Shop Bambu Lab 3D printers here: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=2282157&u=4389544&m=138211&urllink=&afftrack= (affiliate link)
It's been a couple of days since the filming of this video... and I've been printing like crazy! Haha it is incredible.
He Jordan great video, and just a tip for the spool problem you can also 3D print some.
One word for you, gridfinity. The ultimate 3d printing organization system.
If you need a bigger 3d printer in the future, I recommend the Elegoo Neptune 4 plus.
You should simply replace the front bins with custom fitting bins, this way the rest is all squares but the front row is rectangle! If you have ways to measure that drawer and include the slope on the bottom side of the drawer into the design, that would be sweet!
Yeah their cheep one s. Mine s werth $2.500 kit. Took me 1 year to slowly import the parts from UK and built the. Hole thing. 😊
You should look into the Gridfinity system to lock in your bins in the drawers
This is the way.
I use this as well. Much better
Yea, I hit up the comments to mention gridfinity.
Yeah! This is actually how I've been redoing my LEGO storage system.
I was going to say the same thing.
If you haven't ordered additional spools yet I believe Bambu labs has files available to print a reusable spool. Also, if you mostly plan to print in white it's worth it to have more than one white spool per printer because the printers can automatically switch to a second spool when the first one runs out.
Exactly, the link to the spool file is in the Bambu Wiki.
This video sent me down the rabbit hole of looking at 3D printers. They look so much easier to use from when I last looked at one.
These Bambu 3D printers are epic auditions to the studio look awesome fun 🍕
I haven’t made it through the vid yet but the 3D printer could be super useful to print support structure for the mountain that has studs on top with clutch power. Probabaly cheaper than wood structures and way more solid in the final construction. Love the city keep it up! 👏🏼
Fantastic idea
Indeed! Supports can be designed to accept/clamp bricks in the top and bottom so they interface seamlessly. The possibilities are endless.
From a first hand experance, you need to find the right stl and work from them. I have many failed prints from trying to make some lego compatible set up.
this would be good because you can design custom studs that are compatible with the underside of baseplates since those arent standard lego anti studs
you could print some stands for the brikhedz and free up the bricks from that.
You talked about making a funnel for putting LEGO in a bag, you could make one that attaches to the table and the bag attaches to the funnel. Then you can just scoop all the logo off the table right onto the bag.
You beat me to it! That’s exactly what I was gonna say :-)
Hey Jordan, just FYI, there are 3D printed spools you can print from that site, so you don't have to wait for additional spools!
Something that will absolutely change the game for you is Vase mode! the printer never stops and just goes around and around until it finishes. It would only have to be about 1/4 - 1/2 inch high so the loss of height would be minimal but would allow you to easily remove them when full.
I was thinking this exact thing as he presented his idea, you need to be able to extract/lift them easily.
You should print a little extra tab on the rim of one side of each cup. That way you can grab the cup you want more easily.
If you have a full drawer of cups that are fit the drawer well, then it won’t be fun removing them without some sort of tab that sticks out above the cup.
Love this! We use a 3d printable container system called gridfinity in our 10 Alex Drawers.
i would do the same with the gridfinity system ;)
+1 for gridfinity!
prevents the containers from sliding around in the drawers when you open them.
I am very happy you discovered 3D printing :-) I started it 2017, and ending my dark ages with the start of the epidemic, I can confirm 3D printing & LEGO just were meant for each other :-)

Let's print some Monorail tracks and built a proper raised Monorail line in your city!
Battery Powered Bricks has a few videos about 3d printed monorail pieces from Pauls Printing.
Awesome add to the Lego Studio! You could print sections of support structure for Bricksie mountain, or even custom rock panels to mix things up.
I have been 3d printing for about 7 years now. I currently have a Bambu Lab P1S, and a Bambu Lab A1 Mini. I love these machines so much.
Really great to see how 3d printing is becoming a much more widespread tool/hobby.

Is it a pretty easy setup? What about cost for printing and supplies?
The problem with resin printers is that it can be dangerous due to the chemicals, until you cure the prints, you cant handle them by hand

21:26 I would replace the last row +empty place for a big custom one
This was a great review...I will now have to look into this.
I have a couple of the Bambu printers! Love them. Great tool for making anything! ❤
Welcome to the world od 3D printing. I have had my printer for only two weeks and love it (other than staying up too late).

Let me know how you fill in the front section of the drawers, obviously i have the same drawers following your lead.
glad you got such a nice hookup, and thanks always for sharing your awesome hobby with us all
Great video! Love this. I didn't know much about 3D printing. Thanks for sharing your start up experience and ideas for using 3D printing with Lego.
Is like a funnel used for canning food!
Printers are very cool!!
Started 3D printing this past spring to make Star Wars helmets and other cool display stuff and I love it
I had a busy weekend so I'm just watching this one now. 😂
I got mine a few days ago. after that few days I believe every household should have at least one.
If you are looking at an efficient way for bagging pieces.
You should look at the design of the funnel they use for French fry bags.
Create small containers with a lid on top so the stuff cant fall out. This helps that these small parts fall out or rattel around in the drawer.
16:24 You could try printing your containers in "Vase mode", and then it'll just do one continuous line for the container and print much faster. You will only get a single wall, though!
I think LEGO and 3D printing go hand in hand with each other 😁
I’ve been looking at 3D printers for years but always felt overwhelmed…these look great and they look fairly simple to use.
Ivebeen looking into buying this exact printer I think you made my decision easy BUY IT!
I've just watched another video on this printer and you can 3D print the spools! They have a model of them in the library.
This is so cool. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. Keep up the good work.
I saw that RUclipsr Brick Technology uses a 3D printer to make novel Lego pieces for some of his projects. It's very impressive!
You can print a spool to put the refill on
For the empty space in the back I would if it would fit put a container big enough for the back and then you get fit longer plates on it that can’t fit in the regular containers
sounds like you want a canning funnel I think they are called. people who use freeze dryers need them to get the food into the mylar bags cleanly
I've been hearing a lot of good things about Bambu lab's printers. Something to consider when my Ender 5 needs replacing. I would suggest adding some sort of finger grab to your 2X2 container design to make it easier to get one container out at a time.
13:03 Alexandre Chappell is a maker on RUclips and has a good drawer storage bin design, although not free open source
same boat as you, bricksie. had no idea 3d printing was so easy and so affordable!
To fill the gap in front, I would make a swappable label plaque to label and catalog what is in each row. Welcome to 3D printing!
Man! I can tell that you are truly pleased with your sponsor, and if I had the money I would totally bey one of these. But I'm saving up for some other things at the moment.
3D printing perfect bins for the sterilite drawer units is a genius idea. I might have to look into a 3D printer myself. 👍
