One of my favorite aspects of your videos is that they are short and to the point.

I'm a high school basketball coach in Seattle. It is incredibly difficult to convince high school freshmen that they need to lift heavy to jump higher and run faster. The endless amount of bullsh*t "jumping programs" on the internet are getting these kids nowhere without a strength base.

I’m in the Seattle/Bellevue area. What school do you coach at? I’d love to talk shop about what you look for in a player on your team!

max effort jumping is a much better strength/power stimulus than lifting (heavy) weights.
The science clearly shows that ground reactioin force and power is way higher in jumps than in any lift.
Even olympic lifts do NOT produce the power of jumps. Yes max strength is very important for powerfull sports. But lifting weights is not the optimal way to achieve it.
Lifting weights can make you good at... lifting weights. Strength is VERY specific.
I really spent some time on this. I can say from my own experience and from others that lifting is definitley not the way to build athletism.

@@WenningStrength I see you more like a Poliquin character who tended to attract certain types of people. I personally prefer info from those who are equals parts Meat Head/Clinician/Scholar (In that order usually too). Poliquin took many years to become "an overnight success". You are of that ilk, as far as I can tell: Personally Strong, "Clinically" Experienced, with Scholarly nous.
I haven't bought any of your manuals yet, but it's only a matter of time before I do. You have shown me too much "free" info for me not to repay you for your time, effort and experience. Eventually I have my beady eyes on your belt squat: but that's not very reasonable of me just yet.
      Thank you

Great stuff as always. I’m not sure that the reference to Ben Johnson and Charlie Francis really supports your point, however. Johnson’s biggest advantage over Carl Lewis was always that he was bigger and stronger, even before he got on gear. But Francis’s major contribution wasn’t strength training: it was the gear.

@@WenningStrength Thank you! I’m glad someone FINALLY said it. Everyone and their grandma likes to use Ben Johnson’s name with disrespect because of the failed drug test. Everyone at that level is on drugs. It’s a part of their job.

Hey Matt, what are your opinions on adding a finisher at the end of a workout to improve work capacity?
Bear crawls or battle ropes at the end of a press session, sled drags and tire flips on deadlift day, etc.
