    In this video we take you through doing a pretty basic household repair - How to fix a leaky toilet!! Our kids brought to my attention this week that the toilet was leaking water when they used it.. I never use that bathroom so I'm not exactly sure for how long SO.. I decided to just pull it up and replace the seal. We had an old wax ring on there previously, so I wanted to upgrade that situation and chose the Korky Wax Free Toilet Seal! This thing is SUPER easy to install, and has great instructions in the box - this is definitely a project that anyone can handle. I hope this video helps you out if you try to take on this project for yourself!! Let us know in the comments how your project goes!

    I was totally thinking this was going to be a much harder project. The old wax ring was there, and when I was ready to install the new toilet, I didn't even know where to start. I was thinking of going wax. I went to HD and bought both a wax ring, and this Korky thing, and was not sure what to use. This video convinced me to go this route. I cleaned up the wax, and replaced, and it seems to be working great.

    Two things: Before you begin cleaning up the old wax, it is a good idea to stuff a rag into the toilet drain to prevent sewer gas from escaping, and to prevent dropping anything down the drain stack. Also, when preparing to install the washer and closer bolt nuts, there is usually a a white plastic washer that should be installed the right side up which allows the caps to snap into place. First install the plastic washer, then the metal washer before installing the nut. Tighten the nuts evenly, alternating fro from side to side, taking care not to overtighten. Finally, cut the bolts short with a mini hacksaw to allow room for the placement of the caps, then check your nut tightness once more, ensuring that they are snug, but not overtightened, then reinstall the caps.

    So far I like this seal more than its competitor (fluid master) which said it fits any and every flange. I bought a 3inch pvc flange. The fluid master fit terribly in it. Installed toilet and it dripped until the bowl was at a certain level. I could hear it in my daughters room and without a fan it was like being waterboarded by isis. No thx. Finally took it out and replaced with this one in the video. Fit nicely on the flange and instantly didn’t hear anymore drips. Now my daughter can sleep in piece 🙏🏼

      Thanks for sharing your feedback on the products!! I've used these korky units a few times but I also know guys who stay away from anything other than wax ring seals - I personally hate those after using these type of seals. Thanks for watching!

      I’m going to retract my comment. Still leaking down. Idk if it’s this dam flange I bought or what but I’ve had zero luck with these rubber seals. Going to try wax and if it’s still leaking, idk what im going to do. Probably change the flange. Toilets brand new.

    To get the caps on, it looks like you need to cut down the bolts. Thanks for sharing, I'm considering this seal!

      Yeah probably need to trim the bolts a bit - not a bad idea! I’m a bit worried it’s going to get loose again, so I’m going to keep my eyes on them. Thanks for checking out the video and for the support! 🙏🏻

      I'm right at 1/2" above the floor. I used the thin gasket and I can't get the toilet to set completely on the floor. I'll be returning it and getting a different ring.

      @@TheToughGuysTV I went with the fluidmaster better than wax seal without a problem. I had to reset my neighbors toilet and the better than wax seal wouldn't work on it, I got the korky again and it wouldn't work either. I ended up going back to a wax ring on theirs, only because the flange was really shallow and only a 2" opening. So I have found that these waxless seals have some limitations and you have to have one that works in each situation.

    FYI redid my sister in laws bathroom and used these for her new toilets. After a year the 2nd floor toilet leaked by and ruined her ceiling. Prep and install were all done in accordance with the directions.

    do you ever need to put shims and caulk around the base?

    • @TheToughGuysTV
      @TheToughGuysTV  3 года назад +2

      You never want to caulk around the bottom of the toilet, but if you do you need to leave a spot for water to get out.

    I was not familiar with the no wax ring toilet seal until today since I've been out of the maintenance field for over 9/10 years and just getting back into it for 6months, but I had a work order for a brand new toilet that was leaking from the base of the toilet so I grab a wax ring and go to fix the issue so once there and I get the toilet unhooked and remove it from the flange to my surprise there is no wax ring which I didn't understand so I ended up using the wax ring and putting the toilet back on the flange but as before the toilet would not sit even so I put a few shims underneath it a tighten it down needless to say there was no more leaks so should I go back and redo it tomorrow

    Shouldn’t those new toilet mount screws be slid all the way to the end of the white collar/ base?

    • @TheToughGuysTV
      @TheToughGuysTV  Год назад +1

      It depends on the positioning of the mount / toilet. To me as long as it as good room to sit and grab when tightened it’s ok, but I get why you’re saying. Thanks for watching!

    does the toilet rock on the pebble floor? I bet that's why the wax seal broke. Hopefully that cheap black sponge stuff lasts as long as they claim.

    • @TheToughGuysTV
      @TheToughGuysTV  3 года назад +2

      It doesn't rock when the bolts are tightened - it came loose because the kids using it I guess, it's been solid now!
