Probably the best part of this is to watch the unmanned right side flight controls to study the amount of input the pilot is putting into them since they are connected to and move along corresponding with the left side flight controls.
Finally got around to watching this. I got to see the flight in person, and loved every second of it. Fantastic to see it from the cockpit perspective.
Man, i've done a couple of thousand hours in a 500 and watching your spray turns here still made me tense up. Nice work man, they were steep as balls. Primo vid.
Amazing flying Sir! At 7:07 I jumped out of my seat for that pivot! Currently just doing demos in R22's, although it is my fantasy to fly a '500. You make it look so easy and here I was happy to land an R22 without any hicups!
I’m killing time right now in the parking lot of the airport waiting for my timeselot for an R44 demo! I just now realized this was a pretty old comment. Tell me, did you go on to complete your training?
i have always wanted to ride in the 500 D and E model helicopters they are the coolest ones i seen so far not a big fan of the bell jet ranger but the uh1-h is a cool bird too the police in las vegas use the md 500-d and E as wel as the bell 407 the search and rescue use the uh1h air 6&7 both god helicopters i use the flight sim 2004 and have the 500d and e helos downloaded i know its not the same but i can see how versitile that helicopter really is
*sighs* Wish I could be a police helicopter pilot here in London, but there's only like 4 of them in the whole south region and the pilots are extremely experienced and the competition is intense and then you have to pay for training on top. Wish I could... But anyway, great video, nice flying, you have some good skills.
+Rapture Actual Thank you for the kind words! It's definitely the best job in law enforcement and I feel blessed to be able to do it. I'm also glad to have this medium for others to enjoy a little bit of what we do and maybe inspire some to reach for their goals. Good luck to you and stay safe over there in London!
Nice vid ratbird, i just clicked your link on here and saw you had links to Rocky Elmore's book there, how cool is that? Ive met Rocky several times, his stories are incredible, and the flir story with the eye in the sky seeing an unknown creature stalking the officers really hit a nerve, same thing happened to us before. Anyways, safe flying
Great video - Traditionally Helicopter PIC's sit on the right. What is the go with you in the left seat? The red and white button like thing in front of the Anti Torque Pedals - what is that?? Maybe a PTT for the police radio??
Hughes designed the civil version with the PIC seat on the left, so they could squeeze in a middle passenger seat up front. The aircraft can be ordered with a righthand PIC seat, but very few are. You are correct, the red and white pedals on the right side floor are the Tactical Flight Officer's (TFO) intercom and radio pedals. This allows the TFO to talk to the pilot, or officers on the ground, while holding binoculars, operating the Night Sun or FLIR camera.
Hi Gio! Sorry for the delay in reply to your question. Check out the website www.policehelicopterpilot.com which is run by Darryl Kimball of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. He has a whole section on how to become a police helicopter pilot, with many tips on what and what not to do. Good luck in your future endeavors and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!
we use metamap.currently and ive used the churchill system when ive been tasked to the dea and you are right. churchill is bad to the bone and makes everything easy with the over layed streets n what not
MetaMap's search function is nowhere near as user friendly as the other systems, especially when searching for an address in the "Alt Address" function. In Southern California, you will get pages of addresses to that you have to scroll through to find the address you're looking for and if the street has an odd spelling that you're not familiar with, good luck, because it won't help you! The Churchill and AeroComputers systems are much more intuitive and will even allow you to search for a street name in a "sounds like" mode.
I'm not a fan of MetaMap for airborne law enforcement use. I feel the AeroComputers UC-5100 system is much more user friendly. The Churchill ARS and the new AeroComputers UC-6000 systems are even more intuitive and overlay all the mapping data directly onto the FLIR image, which in the 500 with one screen is huge. These ARS systems are a game changer for airborne law enforcement.
Gio, I replied to your question in the comment section, but make sure to check out www.policehelicopterpilot.com, which should be able to answer many questions on how to become a law enforcement pilot. Good luck!
We currently have MetaMap in two of our ships and an AeroComputer in one, but we will be replacing all of them with the Churchill ARS in the near future.

Hello sir I subscribed to your channel your my motivation.
+EvilMoran thank you, that means a lot to me!

how does metamap work for yall. thats what we currently use.
I'm not a fan of MetaMap for airborne law enforcement use. I feel the AeroComputers UC-5100 system is much more user friendly. How does this compare to a R22? The 22 is a little smaller, but the 500 has more power i would imagine.
Comparing an R22 to a 500... That's like comparing a Suzuki Swift to a Ferrari Testarossa ...
Hey I would love any info you could share about how you get the audio? I have not found anything that works yet. any help would be great!
Corey Sylvestre sorry for the late reply. I use the GoPro audio adapter from www.crazedpilot.com
my uncle works there
hey am 14 years old and was wondering if you have any tips for some one that wabts to gly police helicopters
Gio, I replied to your question in the comment section, but make sure to check out www.policehelicopterpilot.com, which should be able to answer many questions on how to become a law enforcement pilot. Good luck!
What did you attach the camera to? The rotor brake handle?
The camera is attached to one of the Gopro adhesive mounts attached to the overhead center beam.
hey do yall use metamap in yalls helicopter

How many hours do you have in the 500E?
About 3,500 hours between the D and E models, with the majority being in the E model.
MD500RAT Wow that is awesome! I can’t wait to be able to fly one again someday. I’m on my XC portion of my training in the R22.
Good luck with your training! The 500 is definitely a dream to fly!
MD500RAT Thank you! Fly safe.
Isn't that a md500?
Yes it is...MD500E
For which police?
+Jack Codrington Riverside (CA) Police Department
