When I was flying in law enforcement the early 80's I took my full size video cam up a few times. Had some cool shots of the grunion running. All that stuff disappeared during my divorce... Good times.
In 1985 I had the pleasure of a flight in a MD500D, I was only 16, ever since then I've been hooked on helicopters, I have a 700 size electric RC heli now which is fun, and I've done about 9 hours in a R22 just for fun, at £380 per hour for a R22 it's a little cost prohibitive. One day I will pay for a flight in a MD again, full respect for what you guys do, and that heli is awesome!
What a coincedence. I am a German police-officer, and back in the mid 2000th I was visiting a friend of my wife's who lived in Riverside. They had a friend, who was a Police-Officer, as well and who was able to arrange it so I could participate in such helicopter patrol flight. Best day of my entire trip, even surpassing a weekend tour to Las Vegas. I remember they had a display cabinet with a lot of emblems and other souveniers from visitors from around the world. I had brought with me a baseballcap with some german police symbol on it, which was originally supposed to be a present for my host, but probably landed in that cabinet, too. I had taken a lot of photographs and videos durig that trip, some years later though my computer had a system crash and everything was erased. But the memories of it will last as long as I live.
This was an awesome video. I really enjoyed this from from startup, systems & radio checks, to throttle up & takeoff. Im a helicopter nut & the 500 series choppers from the Cayuse of the Vietnam era to the MDs of now are just one of many favorites on my chopper list. Thankyou officers for your service on the force & may the Good Lord continue to keep ya'll safe on every flight. Fly safe.
Rodney Leonard thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The 500 series is definitely iconic and I am blessed to be able to fly one every day!
Very nice maybe someday Ill transition from fixed winds to spinning ones. Much better view with your job vs 30k+ feet Aweseome man keep em coming, its an inspiration to get my heli!!!
I can't help but to to think that this was a pretty peaceful and quiet city you were flying over,.....considering every other home had a swimming pool in the back yard!!!
what would you do in case of engine failure over such dense urban areas? autorotate and hope to god the street you picked/can reach is empty and doesn't have any powerlines?
Good to see the new video . Nothing like an APU start to help get to flight idle quickly. Do you use the C20, C20R, or C30 turbine ? I'm thinking the ship is too new for the C18 and the budget too tight for the GPH of the C30.Thanks for sharing and keep'm coming !
MD500RAT Thanks for replying. I imagine the enhanced turbine you mentioned provides better hot & high performance while sharing a similar engine pressure ratio and 420hp rating, a good thing for southern California. Your videos capture the rapture of flying 500's better than most. Cheers to Riverside's finest......
Thanks for sharing. I can't believe though that people get these GoPros to work. I've had four (4) Hero4 Black Editions in 4 months. All 4 failed. Total waste of $500.
MD500RAT Does the enhanced C20B engine have more benefits than the C20R engine? I know the fuel burn isn’t as bad but is there a power difference? Would the airspeed be greatly impacted?
@@hondo500e I haven't flown a C20R to be able to give you a fair assessment, but we saw a huge performance improvement when we went to the enhanced turbine, especially on high DA days.
I would do damn near anything to be a helicopter pilot, sadly my GI Bill couldn't be used to pay for it in California. No where close enough to Riverside offered an approved program.
MikeywayGalaxyGaming It’s the 500E. Pointed nose and different cockpit panel. It sounds like a 530F, but it has the C20R engine, I think. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I worked CAMP up in Lake County many years ago. Beautiful area and a good group of guys on the MET Team back in the day! Stay safe up there!

I wish you posted more of these videos

Riverside has its fair share of excitment, but it also has its fair share of heat during the summer, hence the swimming pools!
9:45 Good old Mt. Rubidoux, I've hiked there a few times.

We have the C20B with the enhanced turbine.

Beautiful! Why do You stay for a while over that "Police ramp", when You take off? Is the place, where You can get the take off clearance? Thank You.
Zatracenec yes, we call the tower and request take-off clearance while over the 'H'. Sometimes the tower is busy so we have to wait.
Thank You very much. You have a great job and great machine to fly! Be safe out there!
Thanks for the great vid both rated pilots or pilot observer??
This is a pilot/tactical flight officer crew.
👏👏👏👏
Awesome flying! I only fly a 300 now and Cessnas. How do you like the 500?
Thank you Paolo! I love flying the 500. It is very responsive, maneuverable and a real joy to fly!
Flying helicopters is my favorite thing to do, business or pleasure.

I see that black car @ night after your shift when you leave..really fast!😂
What was thae alarm that went off when you went from idle to flight on the throttle, low N1?
That was the low rotor warning.
How many hours a month are you'll able to fly?
matt taylor we average about 50 hours a month.
Is this the C20B enhanced turbine or the C20R engine?
It's the enhanced turbine C20B.

yeah sounds a lot cooler

What agency?
Riverside (CA) PD.
Waste of tax dollars. Defund the police.
