  • I mention using this digital PH meter when fermenting garlic in honey as well as some of my vegetable lacto-fermentation videos. There have been a few comments letting me know that it's calibration is intimidating so I have made this video for you! I clearly demonstrate how to calibrate a PH meter, how to use a digital PH meter and give tips on how to take care of it so it can have a long and accurate life. The goal of this video is to take the intimidation out of calibrating a PH meter.
➡️HOW TO STORE THE PH SOLUTIONS LONG TERM (re-use in the future):
    1. Place each solution in a clean jar and store out of sunlight (i.e. cupboard or pantry).
    2. Label the jar with the correct PH value of the solution
    3. The solution will keep for about 8 months before a weird slime begins to develop. Maybe this will never happen to you, maybe it will happen sooner. None the less, this is how I store mine and they last 8-12 months before it's time to dump them and make a new solution if needed.
    4. Recalibrate the meter, or check in on it's accuracy using the stored solutions anytime.

Very timely. The exact same metre is due on Feb 2 so I won’t be confused as you gave an excellent demonstration. Thanks so much. Your site is fantastic.

Thank you so much for this video! I asked after watching the basic one if you had one for this updated one, so sorry for bothering you needlessly as I have now found the one I needed. Your instructions make it so easy for a person that struggles with things like this!

Thank you for the great advice on saving the calibration solutions! Although I would like to add that one manufacturer of ph-meters said to pour only a small (tiny?) amount of solution into another, clean container right upon calibrating, and then toss the poured solution out once the calibration is completed. This is so that the meter stick doesn’t ever go into the solution directly (and possibly altering the pH of the solution in any way, as a result). I personally haven’t tried it this way, but will give it a go!
Hoping we can all give each other advice on ways to elevate our home fermentation skills 🤩

I have just started fermenting vegis and you are a delightful teacher. 😊 My fermentations are very salty tasting is that normal? I have ordered a ph meter to make sure it is actually fermenting since I am not real sure what these new foods are suppose to taste like. I like saurkraut but I have never had other fermented vegis. I am doing this to improve my gut health.

I really appreciate your easy to follow instructions on calibration of my new Yinmik pH meter. I have purchased this based on your excellent video comparing pH methods. I have one question regarding my purchase. My question is regarding keeping the tip of the meter moist during storage. How often should I add a drop or two the the storage cap and does the second tip that was included in my purchase need to be remoistened also? Thank you.

I do so if I haven't used my meter within 10-14 days. AND YES! glad you asked... the 2nd tip needs hydration too. I learned the hard way when I forgot about tip #2 😝

The best ph for kefir is bwtn 5 -5.5. Fruits will be more acidic and milk will be a little higher than a kefir ph 😊👍

We use a Berkey. It’s worth every penny and more. Couldn’t live where I do without it. Remember when using filtered water you remove all good minerals also.
