I had their debut album and have been turning people on to these guys whenever I can. I feel they are supremely underrated. One of the forerunners of modern speed/thrash metal. A very talented band from top to bottom. I especially love the first song they do here. Great stuff, takes me back to high school, sitting in my friends '72 Nova, listening to this and smoking a joint, while watching the varsity cheerleaders practicing after school. Great, great times!!!!!!
Taped for my Television Variety Entertainment Program 1985 Live At The Pony Express Nightclub- Second anniversary party old information on the character generated image- no longer applicable, but the video remains preserved .
Jason called me one afternood, He said "" I got an audition with a band in Frisco, Metalica,I gotta have a good bass, Nobody in town will lend me one or rent me one,, Do you have anything I can borrow from you"" Jason you little metal-head, Yeah, I got a good bass, its got a ebony board, and EMG picups, Ill lend it to you but you better give it back""" That the bass I BUILT, AND LENT HIM, HE CALLED ME AND SAID, " I PASSED THE AUDITION AND IM IN METALICA"" tHE REAT IS HISTORY, bECK
thanks for this great slice of thrash history, along with Overkill, Sacred Reich and Exodus, Flotsam were SO underated, and like all the forementioned bands deserved far better, and yes I AM from THAT origional 80's generation who listened and saw them the 1st time around. SO much talent back then...
Cool; Carlson, Smith, Knutson, Newstead and Gilbert altogether; sounds great. I always thought Eric had a cool and unique metal voice. He still sounds at the top of his game today
Thats some amazing bass, freaking Jason Newsted was underestimated during the Metallica years. They should have used his knowledge and talents instead of hazing him. It pisses me off because he is one of my bass guitar idol. The man has talent.
sounds great.i was not expecting that at all.vcr tapes had a great recorded sound .i used to record 6hr mix tapes with them before computers cds and mp3. hi fi.giant speakers .the simple days.
Se agradece el compartir este video! En lo que se refiere a la música, algo discreta.. Desordenada, pero igual se atesora cualquier video del gran Jason Newsted
Where Are All The Truly Trash Metal Music People- this is some of the best classic video from 1985 bar none- come on you got to agree the video is great and the sound quality is superb.
This is by far one of the best heavy metal records released back in the day. It captures in great extension what heavy metal was all about. Doomsday forever!!!
ooooo baybeh baybeh, i was fourteen when i fell in love with Flotts...never could understand the feelings that come in seeing Flotts live, YAYYUH now I get it...I was innocent of knowing man, but now i know that the experience is like gettin it on, without actually doing so!! HELLYA FLOTSAMandJETSAM have always been sweet hardcore, especially LIVE!
Really interesting, high five! Sting Ray and Ampeg, wow. Classic rig. Rest assured, I'll never sell my 88' Sting Ray. It is a perfect instrument, and I was so mad in love with it for over a decade... I just had enough. And like I told you, the Modulus Quantum has a similar, familiar sound. You can really dial in any tone you like. It is the first bass I met with a really useful, solid b-string tone. And for a graphite neck, it is warm sounding... etc. Thanks for all infos man, I love it
Jason's bass in this video is a G&L SB-2. It is a relatively hard-to-find SB-2 of the first generation - a collector's item today. Pretty good sounding bass, built like a tank.
Their syncronized moves make for an awesome stage presence. As soon as the main riff starts, they do that pan from side to side. So metal.
DSWEIG So 80's Metal!
@@1969ryson the golden age
The bass makes the song
I believe Jason listen a lot Voivod in that times..

Chris J Where are those dirtbag cheerleraders now you think?
I know one got pregnant her senior year and moved away. I do have to say though that the majority of them were fine as hell.
@@TheLordGoat HA!!!! Great comment
Eric AK is still a phenomenal singer. Very few can match his pitch.
Good playing from Jason and the band. But are we all going to pretend like there wasn't a big cactus in the crowd? LOL
Thanks For Your Comment BTW Arizona's Favorite Walking Plant Was Important Part Of Our Culture- You Would Just Have To Be There I Guess.
That bass !!! \\m//
Still a favorite video of the heavy metal crowd, even after all these years.
reasons why jason newsted is just as much a bass god as anyone else :
FUCK YEAH! This is great! Flotsam has always been one of my favorites. It's so hard to find any footage from the 80s. Thanks for sharing!!
love the bass, jason newsted
Love that thumpin' bass. Why Lars basically turned it off on And Justice For All is beyond me.
wow jason really has a nice bass tone here ..:)
It would be a shame if somebody.... turned it down...
Dear god.....does this get anymore metal then this? I mean simple as that. This represents metal back in the day to.the fullest.
Jason's tone is great, reminds me a lot of Ellefson's tone on RIP.
Oh Jason, so young, beautiful boy in the early years I'm crying...
Total awesomeness. I first saw them in concert a year or two at the most after this recording. Great times. Flots till death.
Ah, a great bassist that can be heard.
Awesome stuff! Great to see such high quality footage of them in their early days with Newsted in the band.
I love how jasons bass gets louder as the video progresses. Such a sick tone.
Much respect to the sound man for Flotsam Nino Nataro RIP a brilliant sound engineer.
They sound great!

That would be cool if it was true.

GREAT SONG...WITH GREAT STOP & GO
Cool; Carlson, Smith, Knutson, Newstead and Gilbert altogether; sounds great. I always thought Eric had a cool and unique metal voice. He still sounds at the top of his game today
Eric A K is so powerful on vocals...Flotsam is easily one of the most under-rated metal bands of all time!
wow, this clip is amazing, never seen it before. and Flotsam and jetsam where my favourite metal band back in the days.
Holy shit! Do you hear that fucking bass?! That's power right there.

Thats some amazing bass, freaking Jason Newsted was underestimated during the Metallica years. They should have used his knowledge and talents instead of hazing him. It pisses me off because he is one of my bass guitar idol. The man has talent.
Been listening to the album almost daily!

Seen Flotsam open for TESTAMENT at The Venue - Salt Lake City, Utah -2/26/13.. It was Grace and Awesome to see ....
I like the music that Flotsam and Jetsam played, I would like it if they still played with him.

It´s funnny, they have the guitars so high! :)

I would have killed to be at a show like this, and there's like 10 people here. All girls.
You can tell that's Newsted by the bass sound. EPIC
Como suena el Bajo, tremendo!, Aguante Jason che \m/
And what a great era for hair that was!
amazing crowd.
Honestly the vocalist was one of the best things about this band!
Great ...... Yeahhhhh
Jason's bass REALLY stands out here. Doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Ha! LOL! I wonder if this show was in Mesa? I think Mike and Ed had just graduated from Dobson. They were classmates of mine in 85. Cool!
Oh hell yeah!
