    Jason Curtis Newsted (born March 4, 1963 in Battle Creek, Michigan) is an American metal musician, known for playing bass guitar with the bands Metallica, Voivod and Flotsam and Jetsam. Joining Metallica in 1986 after Cliff Burton's death, Newsted remained a member until 2001, making him the band's longest-serving bassist. After he left Metallica, he continued with his project Echobrain, played with Ozzy Osbourne and joined heavy metal band Voivod. Newsted uses the pseudonym Jasonic, which serves as both his alias in Voivod and the name of his music publishing company. He is also the founder of the Chophouse Records studio and label based in California. He currently plays in his self-titled band Newsted, in which he provides lead vocals as well as bass. In September 2014, the band appeared inactive as its website contained only a brief message that as of September 15, 2014, Jason Newsted was no longer on any social networking sites.

      I'm willing to guess the megalopolis that is, or at least was, Jame's and Lar's ego never took a hit quite like that.
      Imagine how insecure you'd have to be to be the singer of the biggest rock band in history that you're worried your bass player's little side project is somehow a threat to you.

      @soullink939 at the end of the day Jason's loyalty was being questioned and I think James making that sly comment about replacing jason was the end for him after everything he did for that band he put up with alot of garbage and was treated like second rank the whole time he was part of that band and to be honest they never had a more dedicated member that knew his role. I agree with Jason's decision I just wish the band would have acted accordingly and got him back. Robs good but he doesn't belong in metallica even James has more less said he had his own things going on and they didn't think he'd ever be a part of metallica. It was a poor judgment call and to this day has hurt the band

    Jason's contributions on album are minimum, but on stage, this guy was very important for Metallica, all that energy, passion, and also singin' and playing skills. He had everything to made Metallica the greatest metal band of the 90's with the other 3 guys, but I think Jason's contributions to Metallica are scorned, because of the compositions from Garage Days until S & M. Very unfair. Also Blackened and My Friend of Misery are masterpieces in all Metallica's discography. Excellent video!!!!!

    Jason was So underutilized in Metallica.
    If James and Lars had unleashed him instead of suppressing him, think of how much more of a impact they would have made. I loved Jason's energy especially during the Justice era.

      Silvia Lorena Gonzalez Toda la razón... por el es que hoy soy bajista, la forma de interpretar emociones con el bajo era un nivel sorprendente, daba con compases que giraban en torno a la desesperación, euforia, irá, ansiedad, el miedo y la alegría efímera, siempre podía transformar las armonías cálidas y dulces con ese toque de maldad al final haciendo su show algo tétrico y apreciable en su contexto.

    He is a great bassist not a random studio musician. He puts his heart out while playing. I think his first priority is his music not necessarily being in one of the biggest heavy metal group ever. He deserved much more respect and acceptance. When he didn't feel those, he left. Not an easy decision but he has the balls to do it. I have so much respect for him.

      +B Beaz james didn't kick him out he left himself metallica was getting too mainstream to him and he said he wanted to really rock so he left and tbh i respect his decision he's my favourite metallica bassist but if starting a new band made him happy then it's all that really matters

    • @joecan9376
      @joecan9376 8 лет назад +14

      +B Beaz Jason left cuz there was a double standard as well. James could lend his guitar and vocals to other projects during break but Jason couldn't ? Jason went to James 1st for permission if he can tour a summer with Echobrain then when Metallica was ready to record again Jason would be back. And James said "no" ! So besides all the drama that James and Lars had the time and with the band not speaking to each other so Jason bailed on them ! Good for him for not being their floor mat and leaving the band. A man can only take so much drama. Goes to show he was about the music and fans then money and fame

    32:28 - everyone should know it was his farewell to the audience. Metallica went bad direction releasing Jason then. I like ROb, but it's a change like from Cliff to Jason in the past - some said: Jason won't fit up. Let's see what Rob can do. However... i'd like to see Jason back in squad :)
