There is a LOT of personal satisfaction that goes with being able to fix small things. RUclips is FULL of such videos. RUclips helped me fix my washing machine and I've also learned when to fix something and when to call a repairman and when to simply REPLACE something.
Mike I have fixed so many dents just like the one you tried on your pick up truck. You need a dinging hammer a good one, you also need a t bar witch you need to make yourself. Remove the trim panel first then put the t bar inside the door and up against the outer body line, top of the t first hit the bottom of it and your dent will come out. If it has several buckles in the door skin where they shouldn't be have someone push the t bar by hand and carefully tap the buckles out on the high spots only using the large round end of your dinging hammer. Hope i was of some assistance. Sincerely Bill Campbell
Hey Mark, late comment. Love both you and your brothers vids. You guys both do great at what you do. I have much respect with how you and your brother wants to give back and influence. I really think the good Lord knows that. Proved with Draco. My precious grandpa said to me "life is a voyage in witch we choose neither vessel nor weather, but much can be done in the guidance of the helm and the management of the sails. God was with Mike. I agree but I would hate to see them be criticized like they do to Trump, He could cure cancer and the left would say , look at all the doctors you put out of work ! Not to be political but Mark and Mike are nice people and they don't need that kind of criticism.
Ouch, Cheapo! That was a pretty clever fix you pulled off. I love watching your vids. Sorry to say you are almost the last of the Cowboys I've subscribed to. Can't wait to see what comes after Turbulence. Keep up the good work!
Lacquer thinner on a cloth will erase a lot of paint transfer marks, as will Goo Gone, etc. When heating the metal, try using an infrared thermometer to keep from heating the paint over 175 F, or you run the risk of blistering the paint. Good job and thanks for the video. I have a dent to tackle this afternoon and will follow your lead.
I think you and your brother are awesome guys and the information you share with all of us is great. I learn something every time while being entertained. Great video
I've only ever bought one brand new vehicle as well. Picked it up on May 24 and by Sept 1 it had over 14 miles. By the time I sold it 13 years later it has over 313K miles pov a little Ford 2.3L. The only major repairs were actually maintenence items. Brakes, clutch and timing belt. Preformed all repairs and maintenence myself. Older now, and more apt to take them to the shop and let them do it lol. That quick repair is one I've done before. Works great!
Its like getting the first ding on a new surfboard. You know its gonna happen, now you don't have to stress as much about the next one. Nice work fixing it! I'll have to use that trick, my F150 has a dent in the rear passenger door.
Mace H That’s NOT how pdr is practiced-this is ghetto 80% repair that does not remove the crowns. And be careful heating white especially tri coat paint too hot it will discolour!
I am happy for you. I am hurting right now with a dent and a deep scratch in the centre of the dent on my new car. I took out a policy for AUD500 when I bought this car which offers an on-site repair for AUD50 for each minor repair. The dent itself is small but noticeable. I got a repair technician out this morning but he said he could not fix the dent and that I would have the whole door repainted in the workshop, which is very expensive. He went over the deep scratch with a touch up paint, no putty filler, which I could have done myself. Very poor job. Paid $50. I love my car and it hurts when I look at the damage.
Mike - Autozone carries _Scratch Out_ sold under the _Formula 1_ brand name. It comes in a yellow plastic bottle. I've been using it for decades (it used to be sold under the _Kit_ brand name). It's excellent at removing small scratches and scuffs like you have. It's also safe for clear coat since it's not abrasive like typical polishing/rubbing compounds. Sadly, here in Thailand it's very expensive, but worth it, to keep the factory shine on vehicles subject to the brutal latitude 16° North sun. Cheers from Thailand and fly safe! :)
Hey Mike, just looked at your brothers vid. Hey I love you both. You mentioned you grew up with nothing. I have the story. You should be proud. People have been thru what you and your bro has been thru. To see you trying to influence is the best thing. You two are 2 times the power. Much respect, Keith
Great video! Thank you for taking the time to share the process involved. I have had many similar small imperfection dents and scratches in my vehicles in the past (Disclaimer: not always my fault :-) ) and every place I took my vehicle it was $500 to repair! In fact, I think I will try your process to take a small dent out of my car that was hit by a bottle rocket last year on New Years Eve.....hit the back right quarter of my car...bottle rocket still sitting on top of my car with burnt gun powder across the trunk and back window the next morning. Thanks again! Greatly appreciated!
Damn Mark, I have got to try this one. Someone dented my wife's Accord and we have just taken the hit and lived with it for a few months. The expense is minimal so worth a try for sure. Just don't burn the paint with the heat gun and I am way ahead just for trying. Thanks! great content as usual.
You need a dual action polisher to do it right with an orange foam pad with a good compound then use a good polisher. Most auto paint supply shops will put the trucks color code in a rattle can for $25.00 and they will sell a rattle can clear coat called SprayMax for $25.00.
Tee Bee yeah I had that too, but that’s the hazards of Alaska roads! LoL if your window doesn’t have a chip or crack, you aren’t driving! Hehe it bites for sure.
Thanks for the great video, I have sm. dents on the front my new refrigerator door. Due to reckless renters, (3 kids), Will try this and suction tool too.
The collision repair place we usually use wanted $2300 to fix our dented fender. A guy came out and did a similar thing to what the guy in the video did. Then he buffed out the scrapes and scratches. It looks 100% perfect. $400. He came highly recommended, tho and has a lot of experience. I think collision repair places are doing this, too and just upcharging. Make sure you check references if you hire a dent repair guy who comes out to you.
I hear you on the truck. I make pretty damn good $$, have a house and family. I save and invest like crazy. I see all my friends and acquaintances buying new trucks, but I refuse. I have paid cash for every vehicle for the past 10 years. I just bought a 2002 F150 extended cab with under 90k miles for 5 grand. Gets me to work and back.
I know how you feel Mark! I still have my first truck that I paid out right at 19 years old with 0 miles. It's a 1998 and only has 68k miles on it now. Yes I baby the hell out of it. It may not be worth much, but it is to me, lol.
You were better to buff that out by hand. A buffer in inexperienced hands can cut through the paint very quickly, especially on raised crease kinds of areas. My favorite old Souix saying: "Go slowly for a more harmonious outcome." Good work by you in bringing your truck back up nicely.
Mark shared the same trick with his brother Mike....after he wrecked Draco at the Reno STOL drags this month. Despite losing a wing, it buffed right out.
Man Mark i bet that truck cost more than the pc-12! I am glad you finally got you a new one, if anyone works hard enough to enjoy a few of life's nicer things its you!
By the way snap on makes the best hammers, use 5/16th hss steel for your t bar. Make the top piece about 6 in. long and the bottom piece as long as it needs to be from the outer skin to a position past the inner door skin where you can hit it with a 2 lb. hammer. good luck. Sincerely Bill Campbell

looks good. My buddies and I used to do something similar to that when we got hail damage growing up in central New Mexico. We used the hot sun and dry ice.
I imported a Mercedes from a German dealer once and picked it up south of England from the importer who operated from a farm complex that was as muddy as a pig pen. Next day I took the new car to power wash it clean and whilst busy on the off side wing failed to notice the hose which was caked in small stone chips drape itself across the bonnet. My solution was to cry... for 3 days... Maybe 4...
The stuff in the can is not air, it is refrigerant, usually R152a. That is why it is so cold when in liquid form when sprayed inverted. Many folks use it in their cars A/C system. I love you videos! Please keep them coming!

Maybe u should get a professional 2 fix the truck. Did u run over a baby it's a out the same height. It still has a dent in it. Buffing will not fix it. Take it
n122vu-The leading edge of a wing aint a door panel. You got alot more going on in a wing. Bring it to an A&P if you are not one and have it inspected. You can possibly save money, or at least gain some knowledge by seeing if the tech would be cool with you helping out!
I have a small dent on the side of my Jeep. It's not on a crease or anything and the paint is fine. So, as you're spraying the duster, you just hit it with the side of your fist??? I'd like to try this but don't want to make it worse.
Its dont work on a small dents, belive me. I am a PDR tech and the guy have lucky that the majority pups out, he can also pusch the dent from the inside, without cooling it and the result would be the same...
Mark, I understand the heating/expanding and the cooling/contracting of the metal. What is the principle that enables the metal to pop back and retain its original shape? Pretty cool demo! Thanks, Garland
The original shaping in the panel is what the metal wants to be in. The radius and the hard bend line are kind of reset points if you will, to bring it back to. Heat the whole panel to put more tension into it, then cool certain points fast. If the cooling alone doesn't pop it back on its own, a few thumps to help flex the panel will usually do it.
I completely understand where you're coming from, respect to you for showing this humble moment. God bless.
I really enjoy going back through all the old videos, they are very informative and useful, thanks for sharing Mark.
