- AirText it a satellite-based texting system that allows for real time communication from the air, for up to six passengers on your aircraft at the same time, all working off their personal phones. I unpack it, document first flight feedback from the air, and give a review after a month of use. If you would like me to get some other products to review, please make suggestions in the comments. I’m always looking for cool stuff and happy to give a genuine reaction.
“Pilaaaatus”
Great review. We just got one of these in our CJ3, excited to test it tomorrow
I thought of this years ago, thinking it would be nice on the airlines, just knowing where you were on your trip to where you were going. This looks like a high quality product. Great product review Mark.
Many have that, but they also see it as an opportunity to show you full page adverts, so I seldom use it.
Im so glad to see Mark posting content! It would be amazing if Mark and Mike had the time/chance to make more content! I hope it keeps coming, keep up the good work Pateys!
Thanks so much for the encouraging words 🤠👍
@@801pilotguys new to both of you my mum and my uncle diarmuid are twins
be interesting to see if starlink ends up offering hardware that will be able to be mounted to an aircraft.
Awesome work as always Mark. Both you and your brother always doing so much for aviation...
Cheers from Australia.
Thanks David, the comments motivate both of us. It always take longer than I think to out together a video and it’s so nice to know there are people who appreciate it. ❤️
These guys have really done a good job of making this thing painless. Pretty incredible. Sounds like it might be a good use for this on a boat?
That’s a fantastic idea. I’ve got some friends heading sailing around the world for the next couple years. Would be great for them to keep the sat phone bills at an affordable rate.
Do you think this could be used to fill out a prescription in case a family member hurt themselves on a onewheel?
Just teasing you Mark! :)
😂👍Absolutely!!! It was used heavily when we had the Pilatus come take me home from the hospital in Reno so I could recover at home.
That’s a cool product, and I love the simplicity, and functionality. It’s one of those things that’s so good you wonder why it wasn’t invented sooner.
Hi Mark. I´m so glad you are recovering well from your accident. Your´s and your brother´s positivity is so contagious. I know both of you are very busy, but it would be AMAZING if you can find the time to do a spetial apearence on what you are doing for the aviation community. As a former PP and an aviation enthusiast, I enjoy every single videos either you or Mike upload. My best wishes to your soon fully funtional comeback, the hole Patey family and friends. I send you a heartfeeling hug from NE Patagonia, Argentina.
I picked one up at the same POPA Mark was at and I have to say it is very impressive. I love the ability to stay in touch and the FBO link is very handy as well.
This sounds like a more expensive Iridium go, which also has the external antenna option… these type features have been available in other products for some time now. the iPad display is the game changer here to me… well, and that it comes with a Patey zip tie… 😊
Get better soon Mark. I use the grip lok ties throughout my gyrocopter. Great product!
That’s awesome, thanks for reaching out Bert… 🤠👍. Looking forward to seeing you again.
@@801pilot Mark, Look at my name spelling again. Happens alot. LOL! LoK Ties are still awesome!
I don't know what my parents were thinking, they had nothing to do with aviation...
Thanks for the review.
Good to see you up and around. I trust your healing fast and sound.
Take care
🤠🐂🐂🛩️
The world needs more Marks and Mikes.
Thanks for sharing. This product is just FAB!
Amazing technology. Thanks for the very clear description of what this will do.
I have an Iridium GO I bought for use on my boat; it also works great on-board aircraft. It's not tailored specifically to aviation like this system, but at less than $1000 the GO is unmatched on price, and it's a versatile device you can take anywhere with any vehicle.
In sailing we joke about a 'marine tax'; products marketed at boat owners have a markup on identical products marketed at the general public. This product has an 'aviation tax'; functionally almost identical to the Iridium GO, using the same satellites but paying 7x the price!
I totally get your point👍. I think the primary difference here might be that 6 people on the plane can be texting privately with their friends and family at the same time without having to have 6 devices. And you could have different people each flight and it changes nothing on setup or billing. Other divides I’ve had is for one person at a time. Great for personal use but not as nice for my family in the back. Hope that helps, if I’m wrong here let me know. 🤠👍
@@801pilot You can actually do multiple users just fine on the GO, without a limit of 6. For each user you can also customize permissions if needed e.g. who can send and/or receive texts, who can make calls, and which users take priority if multiple try and make calls simultaneously. It all works as easily as you would expect; just get the app for your phone and turn on the device and you are ready to go.
@@joebloggs8785 It says on the Iridium page connect up to 5.
@@renof2505 You can connect up to 5 simultaneously on the guest account, but you can add as many accounts as you want with no limit on simultaneous logins.
@@joebloggs8785 I know what you mean, and there's no practical limit, maybe, but there's always a limit.
Take care of that hip, Mark! Get well soon.
Shout out to Brownwood, Texas. Screen was showing "West Central Texas" while you where reveiwing this.
I wonder how long before Starlink comes out with a reasonably priced mobile Internet solution. They are almost bound to do it once they have completed their constellation.
Hi, Mark, how is your rehab coming. I have been going cold turkey waiting for new videos from Mike so it is great to hear from you. Please, keep it up. So, did you buy a Pilatus? When you are able, how about a walk around and personal evaluation. Oh, one more thing. Please ask Suzy to join in and let us know how her and Chandra’s flying adventures are going.
Sincerely wishing you well,
Gary
Cool idea, but already obsolete between Starlink and Apple offering satelite service on phones.
Hope you are going well, take it easy.
Great reviews Mark. Keep it going.
Garmin inreach might be even more affordable for the average private pilot.
For sure!!!
This system is more for multiple people at once.
I use in reach all the time. It allows me to text when I am out of cell range and does not rely on a power source. I just lat it up on the dash when I am flying.
Great review…but now I must have Grip Lock ties!!!
Awe Man you was close to me, I’m about 1.5 north of Galveston through the air well in my little plane anyway. Should’ve swung by for some nighttime thermal hog hunting. Right by 51R.
Very comprehensive review Mark. Is that the PC-12 or PC-24?
That’s a PC-12
Mark, I've never heard of Grip Lock Ties. Thanks for the tip. I think it's a bit rare to find two twins that are so similar that it's very hard to tell them apart, but I work with two RNs that are just like you and Mike. They look so much alike, and work on the same floor, that even their co-works mix them up. Just amazing. How does the system charge? Each phone or do you get the charge?
I have to have it.
Interesting, thanks for sharing.
patiently waiting for a One Wheel Review.....
Now that’s funny right there 😂😂😂👍
This is perfect for my ultralight.
$5k? I think I’ll wait for some old-fashioned technological deflation.
Very cool device. I just watched Trent's High Sierra fly in video and there was no mention of you busting your ass on his one wheel. Is that how it happened? I love your Pilatus & CC NX.
Mark is Dave gonna donate 1 for maybe a drawing (with tickets NOT art work ,Mine's as bad as..my 1st wheel experience 😀PS did you just rely on AP while you demonstrated this fine product 😉😀🙄👍
I have one, on my other monitor when flight simulating.
So if i understand this correctly they are using their own app so passengers can't use for instance their Whatsapp? How does it look for the receiving end, is that just a plain network SMS or do they need to use the same app? Are you sure you gonna drill a hole in your cabin now that Starlink already talks about supporting aviation? :) I'm pretty sure we are not far off of getting pure IP in out planes for a competitive rate.
Yes it’s it’s own app on the plane. On the receiving end people just get messages and send replies from from their normal texting app
@@801pilot is texting still that widely used in the US?
Yay
First comment, hahaha you win 🏆
@@801pilot Yay!
They let you back into the left seat already? How's the hip healing?
This video was made before the crash, only the add on at the end was after. 👍.
@@801pilot Gotcha. You're healing up okay, though?
Get well old man
No excuses no more Missed your text Dangit
Does it work for ground vehicles in remote areas?
Would this be able to integrate into a Garmin display?
How’s you Bro coming along?
He’s great. Working lots but did some fun mods to Scrappy. He’ll update with a video soon.
Cruising at 265msl?
Would somehow have to get my ultralight to 26500'
Pull back on the stick!
@@barrygrant2907 And add power! 😂
Mark, you need newenginetype to be not obsolete in aero tech. Door to door or go out of business. No hangers or tugs needed. No EVs either.
Starlink will take over aviation soon.
Does this mean you are BACK TO WORK? 👍
Why didn’t you say you had your brother with you instead of saying another pilot That looks like mike from the back
It wasn’t mike or I would have made him turn around and say hi. That was Landon. 🤠👍
What, no cockpit tour? C'mon, show us the Pilatus!
Will do, trying to work out a big new Garmin Full panel upgrade with new Garmin autopilot and EIS they just certified 🤠👍
@@801pilot Ooo, nice! Look forward to it. Whatever happened to your carbon cub project that was slated to happen alongside Scrappy?
Cool Unit, 10k purchase price, 300 a year, 1000 text messages included in annual package, 5 cents a message after that. Can isolate messages for each of the senders...
Even at the $5,000 he said, ouch! That buys a whole lot of fuel. At $10,000 that's more than the avionics I have in two of my airplanes. Even the composite 3/4 scaled Mustang's Avionics came in at around 14'g. And I fly all the time, have been since the 70s.
5 cents a text, you'll never feel it or see it...... Unless you have a plane full of teenagers, lol. the bill could be 1/7th of the cost of the plane. haha
Sponsored video? Would not consider this a review. A little dissapointed in you, I am sad to say.
You did not say what brand the zip ties were.
So I just guessed and just ordered "Rubber Lined, Releasable, Heavy-Duty Zip Ties."
I am more than willing to support all that you do, and, what you do for all of of us.
Bless YOU as you heal!
They're Grip-Lock. He owns the company :P
@@GrizzAxxemann Thank you! I got the correct one's!
