I lucked up on a mower like this a few years ago. One of my neighbors had a brand new mower given to her by her father that she never used. It had been sitting in her back yard for several years. She was disabled, and her yard was completely overgrown. Someone filed a complaint on her, so my mom and I went and cut it for her. She gave me the mower in exchange. I wasn't expecting anything, but I was happy to get it running again and keep it from rotting away. I just had to put a battery, carb needle, do a carb rebuild, and deck belt on it, and I had it back up and running again. I have been using it for several years now, and I am only $80 into it. It has less than 200 hours on it.
Mice nest, it’s best to remove cover and clean every one, lots of fires because of nest and over heating damage to engine Double checking makes a great mechanic
Great work, my friend . I am retired & enjoy working on garden & lawn equipment. I buy , refurbish & resell also . I have picked up a few good tips from you , tyvm for that . I live in western Canada. I am always amazed how you find all those great deals . Well, take care, my friend have a great summer.
The pedal sticking problems is only going to get worse especially in dusty conditions. Cheap fix, take out the battery and battery box. Take the left screw out of the transmission cover. The two halves of the cover are connected with a small strip of plastic. Cut the strip to separate the two halves. Now you can lift up on the left cover half. Look for a well in the transmission housing, it will be filled with dirt. Break up the dirt and blow it out with compressed air. This will reveal the three return springs in the well that get jammed with the dirt. It will then work like new again.
Alex, great job! I certainly respect you for going the extra distance and putting in the effort to make it run and look like new! Wish more people would put in the effort. Thanks for a great video. For the age and condition $800.00 seems reasonable.
Lol. I have been working on the push mower from hell on and off for a year now. I was doing the second start, and pulled on it for 15 minutes before I realized it was out of gas, lol. We all do it sometimes.
You had a good mower to start with, but it came out looking fantastic. I wish I had the patience to spend as much time detailing mine. I just knock the top layer of crust off and call it a day unless I have a really nice machine like this.
You mentioned how people in your area do not want to spend any money on the older equipment. LOL these plastic transmission machines with Intek engines that like to lock up and blow compression releases probably sell great. Love the channel and your premise for fixing and see how far you can trade up is awesome.
It is well worth the time as it will bring more money. So many people buy by sight of an item. I fix and sell mowers also and it makes a huge difference to the buyer. Here in western Illinois I could get around $650 - $700 for it.
Good job, Alex. 👍 That machine should go for no less than a grand! Couple things I’d do differently - since you do so many mowers I’d have a dedicated pump spray bottle just for used motor oil and spray the underside of every mowing deck and push mower. Also, since that Poulan is so fast, I think a pair of yellow racing stripes down the middle of that hood would really look great!
I got $500 for a Craftsman R1000 in similar condition in my area, and this is a much higher quality mower. I think you can easily get $800. It just may take a few days to find someone who is willing to cough up the cash. You have a good machine here.
Happy Easter! It is very much worth the effort cleaning them up. Friend of mine and l both had Cub Cadet GT2554's his had 50 less hours and l got $250 more for mine from for maybe 3 hours of detail work cleaning and light painting. Keep up the great work.
That’s the way I feel as well. If I spend the time to clean and detail, people often will buy just on cosmetic looks. I want them to run as good as they look, but yea I think it’s well worth the effort. Happy Easter !!!! Thank you!!!
Alex, i think when the fiddle fairies put the float in upside down really helped you in your purchase! I really like the deck reinforcement plates. A Husqvarna tractor in that size is now $2400 + tax. That machine is so nice , i would ask $1000! I truly believe in how you list a machine really improves your selling price. On push mowers i always list everything i do to them and all there features. Your well on the way to your goal. The extra time you spend polishing and touch up painting really pays off in my opinion! Happy Easter. ✌🥚🇺🇸
Thank you so much Roger. I had to cut this video down in time. This one took a while to get just right and my ultrasonic cleaner shorted and almost burned the shop down. I really feel it’s worth $1000 as well. I’ll try to list higher when I post it this week. I usually put in all the new parts as well. It’s helps the buyer feel like they are getting a good machine. I appreciate your support so much as always!! I hope you are doing well my friend 😎🇺🇸
I was gifted a Troy-Bilt Bronco 42” and so far I have had to replace a RF axle, all four tires, blades, deck belt, steering ball joints, deck discharge chute, fuel filter, oil, had the original from the factory oil filter on it, spark plug, reconnect the deck lift/height adjustment it was disconnected, the engine is a KOHLER and runs like its brand new.
Good job Alex. There is a product called Mold Armor that's used to get mold and mildew off vinyl siding. It might work on that gas tank; it's worth trying. Happy Easter.
Have you made a video on how you clean and detail your lawnmower projects and get them presentable to sell? Yours always look good in your videos when you’re done working on them. If not, I’d like to see your process on how you do this. Thank you, Mark.
Hey my brother I have been refurbishing mowers for a long time I love your work I have one question what do you use on your plastic that makes it look so good thanks
Happy Easter Alex ! You made out on this one it's practically new it probably sat for 3 maybe 4years so 2 years worth of wear and because it was a small yard really only a year worth of wear yep new !!! Deal man ask for more seriously !
Awsome this content is awsome and i had a poulan pro before so story starts maybe 2016 me and my dad went to pick up this poulan pro when we got there the front of the hood was gone so we had to use straps to hold on the hood so maybe 2019 or 2020 my dad lost the key and left sitting in the backyard for probably 4 years than one of my friends dads came over i guess he works on mowers too so he came over and asked if he could take it also we did pull out a murray push mower out of my dads shed and that one was a 2016 and i tore apart the murray engine and the poulan pro engine because i wasn't good at engines and more at the time and so the guy took all the mowers and parts away but yeah good job today alex!
Awesome story and thank you so much for the support. I really enjoy working on them, and it helps with my PTSD as well as anxiety. I hope you have a great day!!
Great flip, Alex! I am getting ready to sell my Ariens with an 18hp kohler and a 42 inch deck. Just needs a front end alignment, for the new carb to be adjusted and for one of the blade spindles to be rethreaded. Any advice for how I should go about the alignment? Happy Easter! Gan
@@freedommowers420 They can work, just clog easier, because they filter smaller particles, and sometimes not enough pressure for gas to flow through them.
Hey, I know you’re mower mechanic so I just wanted to ask you a quick question I have a GT275 John Deere with a 17 hp Kawasaki I’ve checked the spark it has spark, fuel air and it for the life of me I cannot get it to start I took the head off, clean the head, dumped it in gasoline and wiped the head with a paper towel for the life of me, I still can’t get the start it just backfires out of the carburetor. I’ve checked the gapping and everything that’s all online. I just wanted to see and it has a new carpet. I just wanted to see if you knew what would be going on with it
I would say with everything you told me that the timing is possibly off. There is a key way on the flywheel that connects to the crankshaft. If it has sheered the key, you can have good spark, fuel, and compression. It’s just not firing at the right time. You will have to pull the flywheel and see if the key is sheered.
@@freedommowers420 OK I replaced the flywheel cue a couple months back, but I’ll check the timing and stuff like that and then if it doesn’t work I’ll get back to you

Clean the cooling fins on all my flips to prevent blown head gasket issues and prevent engine fires.
The part number for the Briggs carb jet screwdriver is 19061. They cost around $20.
Out here in California that thing would sell for over $1000.awsome job thanks
