    When that buffer ring popped up I had to rewind to see if it was the video or a slow connection. Very subtle and made me laugh! I love the videos and enjoy digging through past episodes for particular details. Thanks for taking the time to make these.

    Not sure what diff it makes, but I have a tfo drift and I run 25 feet of 12lb amnesia to a ring and then ~2’ sighter to a ring to 9’ 4 or 5x flouro tippet. Essentially a mono rig with 1 25 section, sighter and tippet. Simple, inexpensive, but works ok for me. To dry fly, simply wrap amnesia on foam keeper, take out a rod section or 2 and add mono leader to fly line. The tfo drift is nice if you like multi functionality. Thanks for the video.

    This one is a little over my head since Wichita, KS isn't exactly the mecca of euro nymphing. I'll save this one in the memory bank for when I go on a field trip. Thanks again.

      @Madriveroutfitters  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. Euro nymphing can be done anywhere there is water though. Doesn't have to be a mecca.

    Thanks for the review Brian! What are the line weights of the Shorty and SA at the rear taper? Is there an optimal line weight transition (e.g. WF3F to Euro line) to ensure maximal transference and avoid hinging? Also are these products designed specifically with 9' rods in mind, or will they also work on a 10' rod?

    I euro Nymph and dry fly with the same rig. I just change my leader with a dropper rig. I sometimes think we over complicate but I get it. You're a Store that sells products.

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  4 года назад +3

      Copy that but the funny thing is that this is designed to simplify and not to complicate. There IS some benefit to a thin Euro line over a Weight Forward line and this makes it easier for those who want to change "on the fly". Thanks for watching.

  • @gradystrand6108
    @gradystrand6108 4 года назад

    With this, do you run the fly line just outside of your last guide? I have been trying euro nymphing but hate getting my loop to loop connection caught in the guides so I have been running the mono rig so there is no fly line being used. Great video, great tips!

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  4 года назад

      Yes, you would try to not bring the tip of the line/butt of the leader into the tip of the fly rod. A nail knot or knotless splice can help though. Stay tuned. We'll be covering that soon.

    Hi Brian, big fan here. Your videos helped me so much in getting started with my 4wt trout rod in the outskirts of Mexico City. I bought a 9wt rod for my upcoming trip to Costa Rica in search of black fin, permit and snapper. My question is, what strength (lbs) should i use for my leader, line and backing? And how much backing do you recomend?

    Would it work to run just a Euro Nymph leader from a standard weight forward fly line and only have a little fly line past the guides? Or is it better to use the euro shorty, even though I rarely see videos of euro nymphing where there is any fly line outside of the tip of the rod

    Greate video! One thing.. you don’t need a bobber on a euro nymphing setup. Try without it and you get a better drift and you get deeper with smaller flies. But the technique is hard to master so starting with a bobber might be good.

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching but at no point did he suggest a bobber with a Euro rig. Sorry but even "starting" with a bobber on a Euro rig is not suggested.

    • @erikkarlsson5727
      @erikkarlsson5727 4 года назад

      Mad River Outfitters but he had one rigged up on the sage esn rod? I agree would not recomend starting with a bobber. I didn’t start with it so I can’t know if its easy to start with.

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  4 года назад +2

      Yes, he explained that on the ESN was a weight forward nymphing line with a standard "indicator rig". That was the point of adding the Euro Nymph Shorty onto the front of that.

    I have one rod, a 9-1/2' six weight, medium fast action with RIO's Single Spey Fly Line, that I use for everything from dry fly fishing, to indicator nymphing and swinging streamers for steelhead. Now that winter is here and the fish seem to be rising less, I want to up my nymphing game, and euro nymphing seems like a great way to do it, but I'm concerned my 6 weight rod might be too heavy for it. I've read that the butt sections of most euro rods are based on 5 or 6 weight rods, but that they have lighter tip sections to protect 6x and 7x tippet. If I mostly fish with larger nymphs (0x-4x tippet), do you think a standard 6 weight rod with either of these products would still provide the sensitivity necessary to successfully fish a euro nymphing rig regularly?

    I have a 7wt 10ft sage for steelhead in great lakes....would this be a better option than trying to use a 5 wt euro specific line? 5wt seems to be the biggest euro nymph line weight out there

    Kelly makes the point that drop shot nymphing covers the water in the same way as Polish nymphing, without the need for heavy or specialized flies. I like that approach because I can use any weight I want, say copper nuts or washers, and keep the form factor the fly itself dictates.
    What say you?

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  4 года назад +1

      Very true. Not arguing that here. Brian is just showing a few new products that some folks might enjoy being aware of. Wouldn't read too much into it. Thanks for watching.

    Are those euro lines braided or mono? Would you be able to do the super glue splice for the leader??

      Standard fly line....basically running line. Yes, you can do the super glue splice and it works great.
