Great video, fantastic explanations and details. New trout fisher here, just soaking in the knowledge and experience. Makes total sense to ‘fish where they are, and feed them what they eat.’
Glad you are enjoying the channel! If you are new to trout fishing, check out the whole euro nymphing series I did. Volume 1 starts with the basics any fly fisherman would want to know. ruclips.net/p/PLuLwf7ym7i7bre38GWqk0pXZggydq3Z5m
Great overview of fly selection. Thank you very much for putting this series together. All your hard work is very much appreciated by all of us. Thanks again
I love the filmography that you’re putting together these days. And….when I am too much of a wuss to get out in the cold, I can live vicariously through your content. Kudos, keep up the great work.
Excellent video, thank you! It's hard to get this kind of info presented in such professional, clear and concise way. Look forward to Part 2...I'll be turning over some rocks next week on my fishing trip from here in New Zealand.
Awesome! Enjoy your season. We're having a very warm winter up here. My streams that are typically frozen are in great condition for fishing right now.
Great info! I got out several weeks ago when we got a 40 degree day. The little rainbows were hungry. Fishing in winter can be really rewarding. It felt great to get out!
Thanks again for another great video.. I’m just getting started so I’ve watched them all (multiple times). Learning alot.. appreciate the content and how well they are done..
I've been tying flies so much lately I haven't gotten to editing. I'm sitting down now to edit... but instead I'm responding to comments because it is fun Procrastinating... 😂
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany hah, I have been there! am there. Got adobe premier open and I havent touched my project yet....Its been open for 3 days. I'm distracted watching Davie Mcphail shorts, and Fly Fish Food tying videos.
Great video, nice fly selections. Great information on what to look for in the waters that your about to fish. You have some nice gear. I'm a new subscriber. Thumbs up!
This is another great series! This coming spring will be my first with my euro nymphing outfit and I want to be prepared to be successful during high and murky runoff conditions.
Thank you! High and murky means heavy and bright flies or dark flies to me. My favorite combo for those conditions are black or brown sexi stone and a pink squirmy! Then just work to find the slower seams or even the slower water under the fast water.
Just watched your video it’s been very interesting and helpful thank you will watch volume 2 I can’t thank you enough for the information that you’re sharing with all fly fishing and nymph fishing people keep up with the amazing information
Thank you so much! I hope to have volume 2 out in the next 2 weeks. It's already mostly recorded... I just have to put in some editing time... but I've been tying so many flies it isn't leaving time for editing 🤣
Thank you so much, I knew a little about bead size related to depths of water. I will definitely start weighing my flies, I also knew that adding additional materials with the same bead size will affect the sink rate. This was so helpful. I will look forward to thee 2nd video on selecting flies and organizing my fly boxes better, I need a lot of help in that area, MSG Leum
Great video man. You are super detailed and it really helps understand all this knowledge. I have learned so much from your content. Mind if I ask, where are the spots for some egg and mop patterns?
Thanks... The only fly in the box I showed that is always on the point (bottom) is the sexi stone. All of the other flies I use on both the point and dropper at various times. The combination of the 2 flies changes for me based on water conditions.
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany I see, what will happen if you use weightless flies? Will they drag to much and cause to much bend in your line? Just thinking out loud with no experience 🤪
LOL.. Now Black Flies I hate... we have so many up in the Adirondacks. May and June can be BRUTAL! I had a brook trout trip I did several years ago toward the end of May they were so thick that they would even be under my sunglasses by the masses... ugh.
Thanks! I need to get caught up on inventory. I can't keep the flies in stock. 😬 Message me on instagram if you want a custom box like the one in the video
It totally depends on the fly for me and the hook I use. Any jig style hook, I will use a slotted bead. For a straight shank hook like the sexi stonefly or the caddis I will use a countersunk (cyclops) bead.
I believe the numbers you're thinking of are the relative fly rod weights (generally 1wt-10wt). The larger the number on the weight of the flyrod, the larger fish it can handle. Euro rods are a little different though as the "weight" rating of the rod is more about the tip of the rod. To be honest, most people don't talk too much about the weight of the flies.
using a increasingly heavier point fly to reach bottom seems counterintuitive given that the action is less natural and more so because trout don't grub insects off the bottom. Using shot below the point fly in a tight-line system isn't everyone's cup of tea but it allows for the use of lighter flies and places the bottom fly several inches off the bottom, in the trout's feed zone. Also, changing shot to match changing water conditions is much easier than changing flies with various wieights.
I think drop shotting is a great method honestly! I do get a lot of takes on my point fly when I go heavy but I'm also trying not to keep it "in" the bottom. I want it near the bottom but not on the bottom. If I'm getting bottom too much I'm going to get hung way to much.
Gonna be honest, the content here is great, but I feel like these videos need shorter intros and shorter talking points. I really like these videos but they seem a bit long winded.
I think your feedback is dead on. It’s harder to stay concise in longer videos. Each section requires hitting all the main points and with so many topics to record and prepare for it can be hard to get it all the way you want. Each section requires multiple takes. Then when editing I’m constantly trying to cut things down. I’m planning on changing things up a bit going forward to tackle individual topics and do shorter form content. It’ll help me stay focused on main points and allow me to get more videos out too. Thanks for your honest feedback. I’ve been feeling exactly the same lately.
personally I enjoy the long format. helps keep me occupied during winter months. the great amount of information I've gotten from this channel is greatly appreciated.
Tie on a shaggy assed weighted 'fly' on a long leader and you're euro jigging. This 'method' was originally created out of necessity by folks so poor that they couldn't afford a fly line.
Cabin fever has been hard without your releases. Understand the work that goes in, so a big thank you.
Hello would like to know your flies collection for euro nymphing . Where can I order the collection thank you
Our flies can be purchased from our online store. www.whitedogoutdoors.com/shop Thanks!
Thank you! It does take some effort!

Great video man. You are super detailed and it really helps understand all this knowledge. I have learned so much from your content. Mind if I ask, where are the spots for some egg and mop patterns?
I actually have a separate box for eggs but I only use them for steelhead. I have never used a mop fly in my life. I guess I should try one sometime.
Again an awesome vid. For me this was about flies on the bottom, what flies do you use above them?
Thanks... The only fly in the box I showed that is always on the point (bottom) is the sexi stone. All of the other flies I use on both the point and dropper at various times. The combination of the 2 flies changes for me based on water conditions.

is this were 3-10 weight numbers come from?
