It would be good to hear from traditional auto about where they plan to place the NACS charging ports so that future vehicles can use existing Tesla chargers without taking up two spots.
No need to take up two spots, I can get my lightning into a single space to use a Magic charger, just takes a little patience and practice. But I do agree they could make the charging cord 2-3 feet longer.
Just install longer cables, you cheapskates. What's much easier to standardize and/or retrofit: Charger cables or the charge-port location of every car ever made across the world by so many different companies?
I saw a video where in Europe where 15 none Teslas were charging at a 16 stall supercharger site. Only one spot was blocked in all because they all parked right next to each other taking the cable from the stall to their left going in front first or backing up if their port was there. So that education needs to be passed on.
Informative and helpful. It will be interesting to see what the experience is like after the major brands convert and a new population emerges at Tesla chargers. May crimp investment from the other networks too.
There are reports that the 350 amp limit on the V3 Magic Dock has been raised to 500a, so the Lightning should see the "boost" on superchargers in the future. I expect the very 1st adapters will show up with new EV deliveries to dealers. Inventory EVs should get them next, then they will start shipping them to current owners. EAP program members may get them 1st. Blue Oval Network will likely be used to activate, but expect to pay the highest price, like you do on the other networks. P&C or something like autocharge+ may come later, we can hope. You only "take up 2 spots" if you choose to park next to opposite handed charging vehicles. If you park next to other "same handed" vehicles, then you do not use an extra space.
V3 Supercharger MagicDocks have had their 350amp limitation removed recently, now it is 500amps. Mike should get full speeds on his Ford now I believe! MagicDocks will still be an issue for 800v vehicles though.
He hasn't charged a t supercharger in the last week or so. Theyre now providing the full 500 AMP's. I saw a Lightning pulling 177kw from a Magic Dock supercharger the other day.
@@Mkg254 Np. So it'll be more than just reliable chargers from now on. You should be also getting the full, or near it, that the Lightning can receive. Let us know the highest you get when you try yours. Would love to know.
I really have no problem with Tesla opening up to CCS BUT I’d be lying if I said I’m OK with 1 car taking up two spots. Personally, I don’t think Tesla should have opened to other OEMs until they also agreed to relocate their chargeport. Tesla is still putting in V3 superchargers every day. A redesign to include a longer cable for all those V3’s would have been nice. Seems like the ccs OEM’s could have helped absorb some of the cost for access.
As I understand it, CCS cars will only have access to V3 and V4 stations. Is that something people will be able to filter on in the app? I've already heard people mistakenly commenting that they will be able to charge at "any" Tesla station, so I'm just wondering how easy will it be to locate V3's and 4's specifically for CCS owners.
Agreed but that’s going to be tough based on how many different CCS will ultimately have access not all need to block and each site is laid out differently. I am concerned about the execution
@@Mkg254 Yeah, I'm concerned too. I may be missing some manufacturers, but I don't know of any CCS EVs that have their charge port on the back left or the front right. Most are front left or back right, which means they will block an additional stall while charging.
I saw now an MKBHD video from ELEVEN MONTHS ago where non-Teslas were charging. Apparently some sort of Supercharger site with magic docks, presumably a test site. So Tesla have known about this multi-spot situation for AT LEAST a year now. Tesla would definitely be the one to blame for any issue(s) at Supercharger locations. As a sidenote, that video had an F-150 Lightning charging, and I have to ask, how many CCS port doors open forward? That wasn't very bright, the door essentially blocks the cable routing .....
switch to Killington , 50 free ac chargers available to charge up you vehicle while you ski. Work 100% of the time. Plus DC charger at the Lookout while you refuel you stomach :)
A bit naive to think that communication and education and understanding and unicorn tears are somehow going to change the fact that vehicles with the port in the wrong place will still take up two spaces ..... Having the port in the right place (driver side rear or passenger side front) should have been a condition to use the Supercharger network.
What do you think is more practical: Getting every EV ever made into a shop to have their charge ports moved over to the left rear quarter panel of the car; or simply install longer cables? Don't kid yourself: What you're doing here is gatekeeping.
@@ultrastoat3298 Phone up Elon and tell him that, since you grievously overpaid for your Tesla in order to fund the Supercharger network, you're staking an ownership claim on every single one. Let's see whose lawyers win that argument of who bought what.
@ultrastoat3298 so just the V2s no v3s or V4s will ever be opened to them? At least as of right now? Do you know what percentage of Tesla Chargers are V2?
You’ve got it backwards. V2’s will remain Tesla only. V3 and V4 will open to other brands. As for percentage, surely there are more v3 stalls than V2, but I’m not sure if there are more V3 locations yet. If a location has 8 or less stalls it’s probably V2.
Its going to be a shit show. As a Tesla owner I am not looking forward to ccs cars parked every which way at a supercharger. Luckily the one i use most is a V2 but I am sure I will be explaining to ccs car owners why they can't charge.....
It boggles my mind that Tesla has not mentioned what they got out of this deal. Backed up charging stations are going to be a detriment to their image, since they are the best and most reliable public chargers. I think the set standard is the right move, but the biggest headache will be from Tesla owners' and company's end.
I think there will be less back up at Tesla stations solely based on the removal of “free” charging plans and how many people charge there that don’t need to only because it’s free. But we will see in reality how that plays out.
I owned a Tesla M3 but always wanted the LIghtning pick-up. I made the decision to change this January, but only because I was familiar with Tesla superchargers. I know not everyone will be considerate, but those of us who understand will. I am curious how to charge the truck at Tesla without taking up multiple spots.
