  • In total, the Queen Mother was a widow for 50 years of her life. During that time, she became known for two things: extravagance and an unpaid tab that ran into the millions.

She brought new blood into the family. The Bowes-Lyons were aristocrats but not close to royal. It also reconnected the Royal Family to Scotland. The same goes for Princess Mary's marriage. The Lascelles were an old wealthy English family. After WWI there was still a lot of anti German sentiment. Changing the name to Windsor was a solid first step but not nearly enough. The Duke of Gloucester's marriage was also very popular. His wife Alice is the longest lived royal. She beat The Queen Mother by over a year.

The media in the UK have traditionally been on friendly, cooperative terms with the British royalty and have turned a blind eye, made excuses, silenced or been reigned in by threats of legal action, so that they would not report unflattering, image busting stories of the royal family. Not so with the overseas, foreign press and investigative writers. The legal jurisdiction and gag orders do not extend, nor are legally recognized beyond the UK borders. Much to their dismay!

India, Pakistan and many over countries would have no democratic structure and would be even more backwards. Anti-royalist lies. All the Queen's income is from her own property - the Crown Estate, the Duchy of Lancaster and other private investments. King George III made an agreement with Parliament in 1760 - all money from the Crown Estate goes to Parliament, and in exchange he gets some of that money back. This was modified in 2012 to be fixed at 15% - in effect the monarch is paying an 85% rate of tax and they don't see a penny from the taxpayer.
Beware the forked tongue of treasonous republicans!

Don't forget the UK pensioners who can't afford to heat their dwellings during the winter. Approximately 20,000 die every year during the heating season in the UK. The British don't seem to be bothered or ashamed of this fact. That's the generation that defended Britain, suffered deprivations and rebuilt it after the war. They do get offended when you talk about cutting the Royals off their allowances and privileges. Strange people.

A place like Lichtenstein for example, has a monarch that accounts for a big chunk of the nation’s GDP, but the UK royal family is among the world’s least important, but most recognized monarchies. African tribal leaders, tax haven princes, and Arab kings all have far more power than Elizabeth II

The taxpayers got stiffed of inheritances taxes when Charles inherited his mother's estate (royalty are exempt). They also had to pay the total cost for all the pomp and circumstance funerals and coronation. If the royals had to pay these events out of their own funds, they would be drastically scaled back. Meanwhile hunger and seniors freezing to death is not a source of consternation to these privileged people.

I would not be surprised. This video is anti-royal propaganda. Republicans (the ideologues, not the US political party) speak with forked tongues and encourage treason by calling for abolition of the monarchy. Even if the Queen did pay herself, that money would have come from her own investments because she does not get a penny from the taxpayer. In 1760, King George III agreed that Parliament would receive all the money from his Crown Estate, in exchange for getting some of that money back. In 2012, this was fixed at 15% - in effect, the monarch is paying an 85% income tax. Republicans twist the truth to suit their own treasonous ends.
