The Hanooks should be one of the first things a new owner should replace. They spin under any serious acceleration and pretty scary in the rain. Other than that the GLI is a great fun car. Good review

I totally agree with you. VW should use michelin which are far better then hanooks.

Nice of you to mention the love that Brazilians have for the Jetta. Unfortunately the Brazilian market, like the US market, has had a lot of problems with mark ups due to the sudden spike on demand after COVID. Retail prices here for the DSG are around 41k USD, but dealers are asking up to 50k USD. Great video!

I just bought a 40th Anniversary GLI with a manual transmission and it's amazing for the price. You get cloth seats instead of leather and you lose the sunroof, ventilated seats, (they're still heated, though), and Beats audio. But in exchange they knock $4000 off the price. It's a bargain.

@@vortex_wolf2555 From what I understand, it is no different from the 2022 other than the bumper. Same engine, same specs, same everything. Still love the car though. My only complaint is my radio is a little buggy and doesn't always connect to my phone and I have to hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the radio. And I already have a rattle in the passenger door with some bass heavy songs. Annoying, but unavoidable as the car gets older.

I test driven both with DSG. They drove pretty similar. The GTI had slightly better turn in (kinda felt like a go kart), slightly less body roll, and slightly faster. I would go with the GLI personally. Better interior, wider seats (better for bigger people 190 lbs+), looks better IMO, bigger backseat. I wasn't impressed with the Beats sound system, and I found the fake turbo noise kinda of annoying.
I will say both cars are held back from being a sports car/sporty car by FWD. My previous car was an Infinite G35x. And after driving AWD/RWD you really notice the limitations of FWD. It doesn't rotate as well in the corner, and the chirping tire sounds, and slight torque steer feel kind of unsettling when you're really trying to hustle. (I didn't gets to try it with good summer tires).
If you are looking for sportiest car feel in this segment that would probably be the Subaru WRX just because it's AWD, so it feels more planted. Although that's car's deficit is lack of steering feel.
But the GLI is better value than the WRX because it's much more fuel efficient, the cheaper car, and insurance will be cheaper.
I would call the GLI a comfy sporty cruiser. It's still fun even in the corners. You just don't have the same confidence that you do in AWD. Not to mention in inclement weather.

In the case where you find a 23 GLI and a 23 GTI and they are only 1k apart in price. What does everyone choose and why? I'm a huge fan of hatchbacks and have one now. But from my understanding. The radio is way more annoying in the GTI.

As an owner of a Mark 8 GT I can honestly say that this car is far more practical and has a much bigger trunk then my hatchback. So I think it's utility is a little overstated given that it's a smaller back seat and has a smaller trunk

@@BkBk-gy6vr Hope you are leasing it and not keeping it long term. DSG service is expensive. I had a B8.5 S4 and a proper DSG fluid change with 2 filters, seals and fluid cost close to $1000 parts and labor. Was required every 3 years or 35K miles. At least this DSG maintenance is recommended around 60K mile mark on the Jetta.

@@Armc31416 Again, it’s dumb to buy a vehicle based on what other people think. You either have low self-esteem or have image issues. Driving a sedan or hatchback does not make someone look more or less professional. What an absolutely rubbish thing to say.
It’s also comical to say you don’t like hatchbacks, but in the same breath say you like SUV’s. Modern SUV’s are just slightly raised hatchbacks, with body cladding and higher price tags. 🤦🏽‍♂️
