The way I understood continents on Pangaea to be is different than just having small islands nearby. The entire Pangaea land mass will itself be divided into continents much like how Europe and Asia are one continuous land mass, but separate continents. It's pretty cool. :)
Yep. I was really hoping they are generating their maps off of plate tectonics, the way a civ 5 map mod did. I don't think they are doing that but I think it would make for more realistic continents, especially where things like mountain ranges are concerned. I really really hope they haven't slacked off on map generation and have put some work into it.
+John Doe yeah, but for the Scythians it's more acceptable since they perished a long time ago, it would be ridiculous if the had any bonuses in the late game because they don't even exist in the late game! But the Germans are a thing today and they are powerful they should have better bonuses. I agree that they should be aim to production and military but the one against the city states is too bad. Then again it's the leader bonus I think, so the problem is they should have chosen a more modern leader, there aren't many options for Germany so it's one of the civs that I wouldn't have changed the leader Bismarck was the best option.
+Casrv Sfv Remember that it's possible to 'levy' city state units and control them in Civ VI, so Germany would be good against those sort of 'mercenary' armies.
Casrv Sfv It's acceptable for the Scythians, since all their bonuses are pretty much focused on early game rush. There's a very clear theme there. With Germany's City State bonus, there doesn't seem to be any clear idea how to best apply it. If was a bonus to City State units that YOU control (I like this one, reminds me of Landsknecht), that would make more sense. After all, medieval Germany and Italy were the lands of mercs. But it's clear that City States are worth much more if they're friendly to you. Not only that, City States generally have weaker armies than a player's civ at a war footing. So why would we waste a valuable civ bonus slot for fighting them?
If you didn't get a natural wonder it wasn't an ability at all. Not just a bad one, it was like playing in disadvantage with one bonus less than everyone else. And even if you managed to settle near a natural wonder it wasn't that good either. The worst special ability of all in Civ V, no doubt. This one, on the contrary is one of the best ones.
I really liked the end of the video when it fades from Phillip to Drew. Phillip was talking, and gesturing with his hands. Then, Drew takes over doing similar gestures 4:05 You should do that at the end of every video.
Drew, I just wanted to say that, after watching your most popular video, The AI Only Battle Part 1, you have really improved! Keep up the great work cracklord!
It seems that Spain will also want to play very expansionist heavy. Their bonus for trade routes + their unique buildings bonus for not being on the same continent as the cap' would lend toward land grabbing.
Yeah, Spain are pretty OP. As far as I remember so far, they have the most focused bonuses that synergize extremely well with each other and a victory type unlike Germany for instance (at least apparently). It's unreal. I was also thinking that they would probably be one of the first Civs that I try. Thanks for the update, Drew.
+Leon Reddick It could be this way, certainly, but it doesn't look very convincing to me mostly because of the city state bonus. Isn't befriending city states more profitable than destroying them? We'll have to see how all this plays out in a real game.
Well i have a theory about their city state bonus. We already know that when you are a suzerain of a city state you can Levy their troops temporarily. So will Germany's bonus still apply to these troops when they are being controlled by another civilization? If so that could be a big plus to that ability.
Everybody expects the line about the Spanish inquisition! With regards to continents on a pangea map, I'll repeat what I've said before: a continent is not the same as a continuous landmass. The game will subdivide large landmasses into several continents. It's the same in the real world. Europe, Asia and Africa are all connected, the same goes for North and South America.
Drew I think you misunderstood the update on how continents work. The pangea continent itself is actually broken into continents much like Europe to Asia or much like pangea would have been historically. The continent is decided below the surface. When you hover over a tile it tells you the continent it belongs to. So people on opposite sides of pangea land mass are actually on separate continents.
I really like Spain, I always try to play religious-war builds in Civ V. I don't know if I would say that Spain is OP, I mean the tercios are very strong but they become obsolete at some point in the game, the unique building is great but I don't think its game breaking specially with how important pillaging will become. Also the combat bonus I feel is self-balancing because since you are already going for a religious victory its more likely than not that your religion will spread decently and your neighbours will probably follow your religion. That said I think spain will be really strong and so far has become my favorite civ.
two things! a. i think Spain may be the first civ I play, depending on the last few civs that come out b. did anyone else notice that in the video it showed the trader going overseas? i guess this means no more cargo ships, which is probably expected since embarked builders have replaced work boats.
Hey Drew hope you see this because I wanna ask... How do you like the idea of having the same Civ, but being able to choose a different leader? Like you can play America and get the American bonus units and stuff, but a different leader bonus like choosing Washington or Roosevelt or maybe JFK and getting some science boost or something with space :)
I'm not Drew but I love that they did that, although I'd prefer the units to change too. For example, the conquistadors are from Philip's time, I'd prefer that they also changed the unique unit with the leader. But I really like the idea of giving some continuity to the civ special ability even when the leader changes.
Think the Americas, or better yet Europe and Eurasia. Europe is physically a part of Eurasia but is clearly a different continent, Americas less so but they are still technically connected by land but are very much different continents.
in civ the continents bonuses have always applied to landmasses separated by water though, so you'd get the bonus for a place like japan or the british isles, but not for europe/asia or north/south america
+Marcusjnmc That's what we are discussing. It's been changed for civilization 6 so that's no longer the case. Continents can now be on the same land mass's. Which it seems they should make more note of because plenty of people don't know that yet. Which is huge for these continental bonuses.
And it seems it would be fun to play as Spain with how focused their traits are for a Religious Victory, possibly my favorite so far But then again it also probably because Spanish is one of the 3 Languages I can speak XD
Methinks Spain would be a great villain if you end up playing against their AI! Especially if you're after a religious victory. Although in every civ game I've played and most every civ I've played as I've wondered... am I actually the bad guy... Playing as Spain... Yes! Yes you are!
Philip II? Aw... I thought we were gonna see Charles V in the game (it was my guess when I saw the thumbnail) then again it would make more sense for him to be the Holy Roman Empire, he did rule Spain though.
Actually, he was more the king of Spain than the ruler of the HRE. The HRE was harder to rule and Spain had much more potential to get the money or the armies to back his campaigns, in fact he lived in Spain (where his wife and son lived too) and died in Spain. In any case during this time Spain was tied to the HRE and it was weaker than with Phillip II with whom it broke free. And also most people see Charles V/I as the emperor, even though as I said his real power came from the Spanish crown, not the empire.
i was really hoping that charles the second would be the new spanish leader. Even if he was genuinely retarded, he still has a special place in my heart!
Thought exactly the same, their special abilities are set for that. If only they had chosen Elizabeth I for Britain instead of Victoria, that would have been completely accurate.

will every new nation make Germany look even weaker?
Yeah Germany is the only one that I think had legitimately bad bonuses rather than ones I personally might not use as much.
Comparatively speaking, yes. They're situational, which isn't too good compared to other civs. The same could be said of the Scythians in late game.

you have to explain continents better than saying British isles... one big pangea landmass can have more than one continent...
Exactly. So many people tend to forget that Continents don't have to be separated by water like in civilization 5. Which is true to life.
Yup. I mean, The americas house different continents without the need for 'islands'. So does Eurasia, etc.
