My Nexus 7 used to be awesome. Until the inevitable DJI updates made it useless.
When you combine the price with no charger included and proprietary mount.. Also how long do you think that screen is going to last running that hot? DJI is known for their great warranties.. Not. No thanks
Yea this is the larger crystal sky which is stupidly priced.. much better deal to just buy an iPad Pro (FaceID 2019 Model). For like $700 then get $30 LumaFusion app and you can do everything on the iPad from capture video on screen and import from the drone to edit the video and grade it in LumaFusion to publishing to RUclips, all while still in the field. I got a cheap iPad Air 2 Cellular and you can do all this though display isn’t the best for bright sunlight and the CPU/GPU isn’t the best for video editing 4K as it takes a hot moment to work things out, I have tested doing this. Would recommend iPad Pro 11 (2019) inch over my Air 2. My GF had one and much faster at 4K video editing and much better display for direct sunlight vs my air 2.
I was saving some money up to buy a smart controller for my Mavic 2 pro but at $750 and barely making money off my drone.. hard price to swallow without some killer functionality to win me over to make me jump on that over just using my iPad or smartphone.
@@Honeypot-x9s I think you mean the 2018 model of ipad. The only ipad currently on the market that has face ID is the 2018 ipad pro :) - Cheeers!
I sure am glad that you're not afraid to call out DJI, for their miss comings. It's better that way helps keep dji on thier toe's
Great review. Those holes at the bottom of the display are not for a tripod mount. But to connect to an adaptor to mount to the remote. I love my 2000nit CS.

The only disappointment I have is if you have reviewed the smart controller, I can't find it.
I had to make the decision to purchase my new MP2 w/ the smart controller without your input! Turned out great though because I absolutely love it! Yeah the screen is smaller than my Samsung Tab E, but there is no comparison. I can see it so much better and I'm half blind! lol I also LOVE the fact that I no longer have to hold a heavy conglomeration of components any longer. I never even realized how much I minded doing that until I flew with my smart controller. I'll never go back! The other pro's are well stated by everyone! I'd still like to see your review on it though. Keep up the great work in paradise!!!

I've found that expensive stuff like that is always very worth insuring through State Farm. They insured my MP2, smart controller, GPC Case and the rest of my package for $2400.
It's a no questions asked policy that covers everything except wear & tear, including crashes & flyaways! It cost me $75 a year!!!
Thanks Will I have not reviewed the smart controller. To expensive for me to buy when I have a phone or a tablet that works just fine.

I love mine the picture is so bright you can actually skim treetops and get a very good depth perception. However on hot days it will overheat eventually and you will need a iPad to switch over. And then switch back when the iPad overheats

Thanks for the review. Definitely something I won't be buying. A matte finish would have been nice, but you can get a matte finish piece of clear plastic to put over the screen ... but it would probably melt to the screen and make a mess. DJI seems to be dropping the ball a lot lately. This monitor, while it has a nice picture, has a host of 'issues'. The Mavic Mini is no great shakes and even going back to the aborted launch of the Mavic II Pro with 1"' sensor that has to run at 50% so it doesn't over heat. The nag screens about updating is something I don't miss, now that my P3A has become a backup to my Autel Evo. Will be watching for your Disco Video ... should be interesting. Cheers!

Hey Dustin, Crystalsky is not working with my Mavic Air 2, I found a 7" android tablet TRIPLTEK with high brightness 1000 nit tablet seems to be the perfect companion to fly the Mavic Air 2 . I will love to see a review of this tablet.
I bought the 5.5" CrystalSky because I'd heard so many stories about overheating with the 7.85". Totally pleased with the 5.5" and no overheating issues with it. You can buy a cheap cable on Amazon/Ebay that connects the Mavic 2 charger to the CrystalSky battery charger, so you don't have to pay DJI price for that cable at least.
Mmm. Interesting. I'm sure as its a bigger screen you do get to see more, especially if your eyes aren't upto what they used to be lol, like me ha ha. As a commercial operator I need to see exactly what I am shooting so I have this one for my I2 and P4ps and the 5 inch for my Mavics. It gets ridiculously hot AND blows the video board if you search the www you will find thousands of complaints about it. And to replace the board is 600+. Mine blew 3 months out of warranty. After bitching they gave me 150 accommodation.
To record video you must go into the Go4 app and turn on "cache video locally". This will record video to the internal memory, then in the CS setting you can redirect the video and other files to the SD card. Thanks for doing the video. I think the heat problem only affects the ultra bright CS785. I have a CS550 and plan to upgrade to the CS785 (standard) in the spring. Additionally, I use the Evolution3d V3 Mavic mount so that I can mount the CS where I can see both screens. I then hang the the whole thing off of a Anbee dual shoulder lanyard for comfort.

So... $1000+ and it doesn't come with a fast charger? Are you f@#£ing kidding DJI? And more legendary DJI forethought --would it have killed anyone to include a choice of mount for the Mavic and Phantom family of controllers? FFS DJI! 🤪
Be careful if you add a matt screen cover on it. I did that and found the touch screen doesn't work well.
Other than the larger monitor size, I see no point in opting for the normal controller/CrystalSky combo if you're getting your first Mavic 2. The smart controller does everything the CrystalSki does, PLUS it has its own transmitter so no need to fumble with with a separate transmitter, and your phone isn't necessary either. Additionally, the smart controller doesn't get hot.
I'll stay with Parrot products thanks. I use a Samsung Tab 4 w/10.1 screen. If I get glare I use their "glare begone" thingie. Works fine for me! Thanks for the review anywho Dustin :-)
Great review! Just discovered your RUclips channel and really find them helpful. I have some questions about the DJI CrystalSky 7.85 Ultra Bright. I’ve heard that the early units had issues because of how hot they got. I’m wondering if you have had a chance to use the one you have a lot. Have you had issues with it shutting down because it’s gotten so hot? I’m concerned that some of the 3rd party sellers might be selling an older version of it that had heat issues. I’m going to be using it for my Inspire 2. Any helpful suggestions regarding this monitor? There is a lower brightness DJJI CrystalSky 7.85. Not as bright so also means it will not get as hot and not have as many issues with possibly shutting down because of heat issues. Thanks!
I had borrowed this for the day from a friend so don't have more use with it. Honestly rather just use an iPad with good shade unless there's some feature this has you need more 🍻
I was going to purchase this online.. I am glad I came here first.. why not just use my 12.9" iPad Pro instead and save money? It's weird that this doesn't turn into an actual controller.. very strange... I mean, not for me anyway. Thank you for sharing!
I have a 7 inch Sharp Vision Diversity Monitor with Backlit LEDs...It too has an ambient light sensor..You can see it in direct sunlight, no shades easily....It has a soft matte non glare screen specifically for daylight use...Doesn't get hot. Still working fine after 5 years regular use....DJI are so behind IMO...I mean Tablet and phone screens are not meant for outdoor use, they just aren't...No std tripod inserts?..No batt charger?...Glass cooking screen..?....Really DJI..?

It seems like with a lot of these drones the RTH isn't very accurate :-( the closest my Bebop 2 Power Edition got was about three feet from launch site.
The SD slots are for you to D/L footage from one SD to another, has nothing to do with recording during flight.
I do like that crystal sky monitor... Wow, it's expensive.
I can buy nine, or ten, FPV monitors at Bang Good for that price of one DJI monitor! (And I am happy with that!)
Looks like the battery is in the way of mounting that thing in any adapter for the Mavic's. I don't think it would mount on any of the Phantom controllers with a clamp mount either.
If you ask me, the Smart Controller is the way to go. No having to fool with cables or mounts, just turn it on and fly.

I'm sure glad I dont have that over heating issue with my 7.85 HB Crystal Sky. I fly with outdoor temps in the high 80s to mid 90s and dont overheat. It gets warm but not hot to point of going wow I can fry eggs on it. I must of got a good working unit...
Dji smart controller is good too, but that big damn 7.85'' screen is no match XD

My 5.5 inch CS does not get hot mind you I don't sit in the hot sun.
How will it fit in the Phantom 4 series controller holder with the battery on the back?
You spend $800+ on this reflective egg fryer and then they don't provide a way to connect it to your controller (that adapter cost addtl $89) and they don't provider a charger (that cost and addtl $79) . Typical DJI! And how long do you think those electronics are going to last when they are getting that hot. SMH!

Dear Dustin , believe it or not I'm a fan of yours and I liked your video on a crystal 8 inch I guess I'm going to have to save a few bucks and get it for my new Autel evo 2........ I was hoping that Autel was going to produce a smart controller like DJI , rumors had it that it is in the works? However in any event, I guess I'm going to have to break down and buy the 8inch Crystal Sky ! Great revew but you always seem to whine about everything and I mean everything for sure! Yes, the flight was epic, did not disconnect and was able to test the ultimate max range of the DJI digital FPV system. Video up soon.

@@rcnut812 I did buy the 5.5 size as I needed the HDMI out for my Sony goggles. It works great but does not get hot but I sit in the shade. Works excellent

chrystalsky records flight record think sd card slot 2 and i got adapter from amazon uses mavic 2 block to charge battery for chrystalsky
open card through chrystalsky has dji record and other files should be in there automatically
