I’ve never found Mariah’s agility that incredible, she has to contort her mouth and larynx to achieve her runs and has even admitted that she was not a gospel singer or riffer, she had to learn how to do it when she went solo. Singers like Brandy, Lauryn Hill & Jasmine Sullivan agility runs circles around both Whitney & Mariah but they had many things those other vocalists don’t have. While Mariah always impresses with her range, just how HIGH her belt & mix can go, imo she had never had the shear POWER that Whitney had in her prime especially in that 5th octave. In terms of resonance, for a light lyric soprano, Mariah had fantastic resonance. Of course Whitney had great resonance coupled with greater power but it was not unusual since she clearly had the bigger, spinto-like voice in the first place.
