With the 2020 C8 mid engine corvette being in development, sometimes it's good to see where it came from a few years back. For this C7 Corvette review, a supercharger on it is the perfect example of balance,power,driver feel, and satisfaction with it's 7 speed manual gearbox. Having driven the brand new C7 ZR1I wasn't too sure how I was going to feel with this car. Thankfully the more in depth I looked at it and drove it around the more I came to appreciate how good this car was even when it first came out. CJ actually started off with a Mustang and then moved onto the Corvette, and it's an interesting story of how they compare. Thanks for watching!

What do you guys think of comparing muscle cars to the corvette?
IMO it's pretty fair.. the Camaro ZL1 is more $ than a base model Vette and out drives it on a road course, in fact a ZL1 is almost on par with a Z06 around the ring, so comparing a high trim Mustang to a Corvette is pretty fair, especially considering their price ranges.
Re-review Smurrf! But to answer your question the corvettes just sit above more affordable muscle cars, just out of reach kinda like what the 911 is to the corvette.
Not even in the same league. Muscle cars are raw power, straight line performance with a low cost of entry (not true anymore, but I digress). The vette has always been a more premium car. The car you get when you "graduate" from a muscle car.
I'm crying... in Germany the Stingray starts at (with tax) about 91000€ (~103000$) that's about double the base price of Camaros and Mustangs. (We don't get ZL1 or Shelbys from dealers, so they would be in the same ballpark after import etc.) :-( I want one...
@@TheDutchTexan ZL1 Camaro did the Burg in 7:16.. C7 Z06 in 7:13. It's not all about going fast in a straight line anymore. And a optioned out ZL1 costs 75k+ while a C7 Z06 is 80-100k. They are a lot closer than they used to be.

In the dark days of the 80's, Vette's were still one of the few respectable American cars at still a reasonable price.
They continue to be a great car for a great price

The LT1 has got to be my favorite engine from GM. They sound absolutely wicked and make some really nice power numbers in a N/A configuration. If I ever got a C7, it’d be a Grand Sport with a full exhaust, cam, heads, and new intake manifold.
That exhaust note is drool worthy. I would have a permanent smile on my face daily driving that beast. Yet again another amazing video keep it up David. 👍🤙😀
I totally agree. In terms of the value you get for the performance, and especially that the C8 is around the corner, a supercharged C7 makes for a great fun car at a great value... and this is coming from a Mustang girl 😊

Got a C7 Grand Sport 7MT, 2LT in June, put a few hundred miles on it in this weekend on the amazing mountain roads here in Colorado . Life is great!
The Corvette is such an awesome car, I love it.
Corvettes will always be best bang for buck. Cheap car, bullet proof stock motors, light weight, unlimited aftermarket support and great handling
I don't know if I would call it "light weight", isn't it around 3400 lbs.? Of course it depends on what you compare it to :)

Given most performance cars now are in the 3500-4000 pound range, the vette is very light. I mean the r35 gtr is around 3700
The drivetrain and platform is very good. It's the rest of the GM bits that are suspect.

As a former Mustang owner of a 2015 5.0 with the performance package, I have to say the Corvette is the superior car. Not to say the Mustang is slow or not good, but the engineering that goes in to the Corvette speaks for itself. Better handling, lower to the ground, more low end trq, aluminum frame vs steel, more functional aero. use of carbon fiber for various parts, two standard 8 inch displays, targa top. Now I do not have the Z51 package, but I can tell you one thing the 5.0 was better at, that was braking. 6 piston calipers do make a big difference. 6 piston calipers are reserved for the Grand Sport version and up. Will I stay a Corvette guy forever who knows but I go where my money does the most for me.

As a C7Z owner, i think the C7 has reached it's peak of what a front engine corvette can do. With the C8 around the corner, who knows what that'll be. I'm sure it'll be amazing and i can't wait for the "z06" version of the C8, or whatever they call it, but we probably won't see the high hp variants of the C8 until like 2022-2023. I'll hold on to my C7Z until then. These cars are awesome.

I love my C7. The only performanceods I've done are a Borla catless x-pipe and Holley intake, but it's still a blast to drive.

I have one to a 2016 Lt3 Z51 with magnetic ride data recorder all the bells and whistles it's a 7MT transmission it's supercharged to dyno at over 625 horsepower it can be a real handful

c7 are good for both daily without being too obnoxious / when your right foot feels a bit heavy it gets the job done and makes for a good daily even with 700 hp without going over board with the mods so +++, overall you cant beat a new experience with a good deal for any good car

Last year I went from an 18 grand sport to a 19 z06 and I have to admit, even in stockish form, the torque is rowdy. Good for scaring riders, bad for driving on anything but clean roads. Mines a fair weather daily and for that, it’s perfect.
So as a dd, the gs was better?

I didn't start liking vettes until the C6 ZR1 dropped. Then the C7 came and I'm in love. This is coming from a guy who only drives Mustang. Probably won't be able to obtain a GT500 so I will definitely be looking at a Vette or Porsche Cayman S.

I thought I knew about Corvettes until I drove my last 3 "WITHOUT" Traction Control & Stability "OFF".... Lets just say it's a different animal. I was going to put a ProCharger in my C7 and said "WHY".. Where can I drive this animal outside of a track? Virtually no where. LOL... Virtually he now has a Z06+ minus the wheels, wide body kit and air vents.. LOL... A C7 Z doesn't come stock with 550 to the wheels. Job well done. You gotta love Youth...

The Corvette only has 2 true American competitors, the Viper and the Ford GT. Prices may differ(GT) but the specs are similar and they're in a way "American exotics", cars built in America to compete against Eurpoean sports cars. The Mustang/Camaro/Challenger/ Charger are all GREAT cars, but they're not built to compete against the European market and primarily compete amongst themselves one way or another. Big differences between sports/super cars and pony/muscle cars.
Just got done working all day on my white C7 corvette to add a carbon fiber stage 3 spoiler, splitter, side skirts, and z06 grille. Plan to get an A&A supercharger soon. Come on youtube and see this. Well so much for being unique Lol. Looking good!

ACK! David... The software stabilization is doing some wonky stuff in some shots man! But I need to stop complaining... I NEEEEEEEEEEEED C7 action in my life... And those cars just sound so SAVAGE when you get on them, even with stock pipes they sounds glorious. CJ made a great choice from a feeling perspective. They just feel right. (The newest vette I drove was a C4, never drove anything later so I can't comment on how they drive sadly).

InnerGuide I hope you realize that the last generation 1le beat the hell out of every mustang in production at the time... the only thing the mustang had on it was a higher top speed govenor, which can always be removed. Motortrend had numerous videos on each car and every one they said the Camaro handled better, gripped better, accelerated better, etc. mustangs ain’t shit

When I get my 01 ss camaro stock I thought it was decently fast. Ran 12.7s and all it had was headers. Now I’m a 408 fully forged stroker built for nitrous, full suspension and 9 inch rear. Made 552 wheel all motor and that was fast and fun for a while. Now I’m spraying anywhere from 250-450 shot, and holy shit it’s too fast for the street. Only put it on the dyno with a 200 shot and made 789whp. Ran 10.4s all motor and have ran 8.2 on a 400 shot. Everyone thinks you need 1000+hp now a days. Not true if you have suspension dialed and good drivetrain you don’t need that much. I’ve beat 1200+hp cars all day in my fbody and they don’t like it😂
