Brilliant content, and eloquently put across - and happy to see this expertise & professionalism originating from the Southern Hemisphere🤓. Two questions relating to my son’s and my race car project (2001 BMW 330i NA with some intake & exhaust mods): 1. The MAF reports charge mass in grams per revolution. Should this not be grams be combustion stroke (2 revolutions)? 2. Could you comment on tuning of cam timing (ie BMW’s VANOS), which we suspect we need to play with to take full advantage of our mods. We’re street tuning the MS43 ECU using RomRaider, and finding your advice invaluable.
Standalone is hard for us noobs, but companies usually can have adaptations done to read and understand every oem sensor to modules. So noobs like me, be aware that is not that hard, might just take either money or search time.
It generally takes both money and time to learn how to tune for sure, but like anything you can spend both wisely or take a harder route. Tuning should be something you are genuinely interested in learning if you want it to be a success for you and your project/s and that would be the most important piece of advice we could give anyone as like anything you learn, if you are deeply engaged in the content it becomes less of a chore and more of a pleasure, and then generally a much greater success too =) - Taz.
Nice intro to tuning, timing and fuel are key to start... gonna start with a standalone ecu and go from thier. I have a 00 celica what would you recommend?
how do i find what software to use to reflash my ecu? i tried googling which software is commonly used for audi but it just brings up IE and ultronics. but those are preprogrammed reflashes
hi i have a sr20det/2871r that has ecu retuned by enthalpy.do they have a software that allows me to see the perameters like you had in the begining or is the ecu tech just too old?
I've watched many ECU tuning videos and read many articles to decide if I want to jump into this with the zeal of a professional but none of these videos or articles address my fundamental questions around the activity in the first place. For example if the engine takes in all these data points and knows what the ideal afr should be then why is ECU tuning necessary in the first place even if several modifications have been performed? Why don't the sensors detect and adjust? I've come across quirks of certain GM ECUs with fuel injector flow limits that hamper upgrading to larger injectors but despite all this the ECU should know if more fuel should be added. It all seems contradictory and I'm beginning to question if there are even any benefits to be had at all if you are not switching fully to a standalone system where each cylinder afr would be known. The only potential benefit I've been able to discern is recalibrating the afr related sensors in the engine. Which is like when I get a new oven I put a thermometer in it I know is correct and then preheat to 300 and see that its actually 350 so I can cook accordingly. Oh and maybe get some extra HPs from making your engine knock more often. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
The process of tuning is giving the ECU that data, in a nutshell. If you physically change anything, you are changing the foundations that data is based off and need to fix it. For minor changes it is quite possible a modern ECU could compensate, and if you are not changing anything at all you might not even gain much by tuning. That depends on what you are tuning, there are no 'one size fits all' rules given the variations there are out there. You don't gain HP from knock. Who told you that? Link to the source if you can please as that is wrong and misleading information. This series is worth a watch, but here are some more links. You might find that tuning isn't for you the deeper you get or that you don't need to worry about it for your project after all. Alternatively you might find you 100% do need to do it or have someone do it for you. Adding a turbocharger to a car that was originally N/A for example is not something you will do without tuning for the massive changes that brings to your airflow etc. Hope that helps you a bit, sounds like you have not had a lot of luck with your information sources regarding knock which hasn't helped you either sadly - Taz www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/dont-waste-your-time-listening-for-knock/ www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/how-to-tune-a-car/ www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/what-is-reflashing/ www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/re-flashing-vs-standalone-ecus/ www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/audio-knock-detection-systems/ This is a long listen, but it is fantastic: ruclips.net/video/tnFuPK50law/видео.html
Not the best yet not the worst, simple yet complex, easy to do and hard to understand... Tuning a car is a risky thing to do, my suggestion to you all is to start tuning with a beat car that isnt your daily nor an expensive one as its hard to tune it without actually doing it as you need not to learn but you need the experience! The video is helpful simple and easy to learn, but when its time to execute the difficulty appears before you, just listen to me only tune once you have obtained experience alongside an understanding of what your actually doing to avoid risking your life..... Im talking about your budget life that is.... So hear me out friends watchthis video a couple times and watch others as well take your time and dont rush things.. And with that you should be able to minimize the risks of losing your dear friend... Aka wallet! Believe me when i say it you dont wanna start with your main nor your daily and specially if its hard to fix xd
I don't get it. Are you plugging the laptop into your ODB2 sensor or do you need a tuner like an accessport to do this? Nobody watching this video has a dyno, where is the process detailed for that? Seems like you skipped over the basics.

These videos show you that tuning is a truly complex field, like math or programming.
Any field is extremely complex once you get into the details
The most useful video series I watched this week, thank you💯
Fantastic content once again guys! Even during these hard times worldwide! 👍
