  • ECU Tuning is any change you make to your ECU to optimize performance, drivability or performance! It can involve adjusting and modifying many values and settings, but the main focus is usually to optimize fuel delivery and ignition timing. The topic of ECU Tuning is vast with a massive learning curve. This video should get you started on that learning journey.
    Enjoy!

where does someone go to learn? very interested as I've been working with cars ( not much mechanically) for about 5 years and love racing, and somewhere down the road want my own tuning shop and race ream for said shop. but as I was saying where does someone go to learn more in depth, is it schooling? or is it more of an online courses type of thing? appreciate any insight.

@@iPixelFace 2nd opinion: not likely. This is my first video but I'm honestly disappointed. I have nothing but compliments for his content, presentation, and ability to break down complex processes...but this did nothing to explain the tuning process lmao.
Title should have been "Engine management explained" and honestly anybody who didn't know any of these basics already should not be in charge of deciding whether they need a tune or not.
I'm far from a pro at anything but I went from knowing squat about tuning, to unskillfully being able to reverse engineer ecu programming(the first step into tuning a stock ECU) in a matter of 2 months all because of a NATS failure which has nothing to do with tuning...
And to prove how much of a pro I am not, last night I discovered the NATS failure was brought on by loose harness pins...I "learned" how to tune for nothing but even i can recognize this video is pointless for its intended purpose

Twin turbo setup= two snail bois

    • @balakay1538
      @balakay1538 Год назад +18

Companies will usually do one big turbo or two smaller turbos. Having one turbo is cheaper to manufacture and will usually suck in more air than two small turbos. The negative of a single big turbo is that it has lag (which is the time it takes for the turbines to spin fast enough to make boost).
Twin turbos are smaller, but their smaller size lets the turbines get to that fast speed needed to suck in air for boost. The negatives that come with a twin turbo are more expensive manufacturing costs and less power at high RPM.
The way companies fix this is they have a twin turbo setup that has different sized turbos, a small one for low RPM, and a big one for high RPM. I’m not super educated in how it works and I don’t want to spread misinformation, but that’s the general idea on single vs twin turbos.

@@balakay1538there are 2 types of twint turbo configuration. Pararell and compound. In pararell you split the motor in half. Lets imagine an i6 you would have a turbo for each 3 exhaust outlets. In compound you have a smaller and a bigger as you said. Hope this helps.

Manufacturers use them for different reasons depending on what they want. There is no one answere is right to it. Two is obviously able to do more than one for efficiency. Sure there could be 2 tiny ones compared to 1 big one. But 2 share the work. I know some manufacturers use ons for acceleration and 1 for top end speeds. There is various purposes for it. 😊

Great video the best one I've seen for a breakdown on the basics, I've been trying to tune a 2015 XP 1000 with a 1065 big bore kit with air extreme and stage 6 trinity full exhaust with only a dynojet pv3 and power core software. The shop that did the 1065 upgrade sent the tune to go with it but after flashing the ECU with it, the machine won't run and backfires when idling. I'm in the process of making a custom tune for it because puting it on a Dyno is not possible in my area and was told by dynojet any tune I try from any website won't do the machine justice because of all the extreme modifications or upgrades my options were Dyno it or create a custom tune. So I got creative and this video answered a few questions I couldn't get answers to, so thank you

I won't go back to OTS tunes and my tuner has become more and more difficult to work with and dyno tuning in my area is a joke. So hopefully this time next year I'll be able to at least tune my own car.

It's honestly not worth it bro, most of these places don't let you use their dyno if you paid them for liability reasons. The equipment and software to tune is thousands of dollars (the computer, specialty connectors, multiple software licenses) and not something you should be changing constantly. If you want to tune, get a carbureted vehicle like a motorcycle or an old truck.

Wow, you truly opened my third eye when it comes to engine turning.
Before, I thought that engine turning was a waste of money that would alter the OEM equilibrium of your engine and that, as a result, you would get ten additional hp, but your engine would blow up in 5k miles.
Now I understand the purpose of engine tuning. It's basically an art of balancing all the parameters of an engine to reach the best performance, which doesn't necessarily mean blowing up your engine
