@mjc0961 1. That is how most companies advertise things. 2. Their store spread isn't that bad, and isn't even concentrated in those areas. It's mostly the northeastern corner. I spent some time drawing a 5-6 hour distance line, and only the northwestern corner and the desert area are outside of that range. Most of that area can be covered with 2 new stores: 1 in Phoenix/Albequerque and 1 in Boise.
All I have to say to Ubisoft is dvds didn't cost £60/$70 dollars. Dvds also didn't force micro transactions on you to "unlock" deleted scenes or make you pay extra to get the full story you're now invested in ...
Also, gamers already "got used to" (were given no choice in) not owning their games. We don't own games for which we pay full individual prices, and they wanted to make it sound like we were behind the curve. (And if we're to get really technical, we never owned CDs either! The legalese inside made it very clear that CDs weren't your property, and for a while the industry wanted to use that to shut down the secondhand market until they were persuaded to relent.)
@@joechapman8208 Well, the difference is that since CDs were physical items, you did own them since there was already legal precedent. The law is lacking when it comes to the digital frontier, so you might as well make everything digital nobody's property and just let everything be open source.
There is nothing wrong with offering a subscription service as an alternative to ownership. Game Pass is quite popular for a reason. The problem with Ubisoft's attitude is that they try to brainwash their customers into accepting the things they're offering, instead of simply offering products that are attractive to customers on their own merits.
@@daedalus6433 Common misconception, but no you didn't. You bought a license to play them within the wishes of the publisher, and this was the same thing for games when they were strictly physical media. This changed after a time, and governments brought in clarification that you had the legal right to backup and sell your CDs, but until then you technically in breach if you ripped a CD to MP3 for your iPod Nano or whatever.
Having to purchase DLCs just to get a finished game in the case of AC Valhalla was the final straw for me. Assassin's Creed games were great for what they were, but each title since Origins has been worse than the previous one. I am not spending a penny on Ubisoft's shovelware anymore. Someone recently cracked Denuvo on AC Mirage and I am perfectly content with that. But it is so degenerated compared to previous games that I stopped playing after an hour. They are so focused on producing a "deep" story (read: developed with a checklist for which minorities and movements to please) that they ignore the fact that it's a game and that it needs to be fun and have enough stuff to do to justify the 50 EUR price point. I've nothing against said movements, in fact, I support them a lot, but this rubbish does not benefit anyone other than Ubisoft's cash registers. Well, I guess not anymore because even the filthy casual will notice that this is not a good product and anyone can compare these new games to previous titles.
The director-style intro goes so hard. "It wouldn't have been a big loss if it fell" - God I love that unscripted wit! Lol The 3D intro could use improvements though but if it was under crunch it's understandable. Some effects could've been polished; or could just be the 3D/vfx enthusiast in me hyper focusing on it. Regardless it doesn't take away from the overall video. Absolute slammer, as usual!
The shout out to Gordon was grand! He was a guru many of us loved to hear. I heard him from the early 90's on up when he had hair!😁 He will be missed!😢
The best thing about the disappointment build, is to remember that tech companies need to be held accountable for their products and actions. No level of fanboying is enough to believe a company can do no wrong. Companies want you to forget their blunders and hope to not be exposed for their shady practices. This is why the tech community is the best at calling out BS when they see it. Or in NZXT’s case…subscribe to it. Excellent work GN team!
Or Nintendo takeing down emulators and abusing patents since palworld originally had a machanic that had you been able to trow the ball but now that was removed and replaced by the inferior way of your pals spawning next to you
I would this to be true...but many fanboys of many companies out there (some of them managing even news websites) demonstrate that there is no end to human stupidity...
I really appreciate the integrity that you've shown throughout the year (and well before it). In a world where everything is trying to turn into extortionate subscription fees - your toothbrush included - it's nice to see companies get called out for the BS that it is and to see you make people aware that this is happening.
I’m a new subscriber sorta, and I just wanted to let you know, Steve, these are hands down, the best put together videos in this “genre” of videos. I know you have a team too, so I credit them as well. Happy New Year 🫡
Ubisoft will just have to get comfortable with people no longer giving them money, (especially for bad products and services). That's a transformation that's been a bit slower to happen [in games]. So it's about feeling comfortable with going broke because of arrogance and poor executive decisions.
Said the quiet part out loud. Modern games seems like an infinite gift shops to sell you DLCs and if you're lucky you might get a little decent gameplay. Not just Ubisift. The latest CoD doesn't have a link to play the campaign on the main menu. Which, I only played because it was included with Gamepass. Which, I only got because I got 3 free months with a laptop. Still sucks.
Unfortunately, Ubisoft is only the first domino to fall because they were always the smallest fish of the big fishes. When this reaches Activision and EA, then things are really turning around.
Vince Agosta is awesome. Provided he feels charitable and/or GN can afford it, him getting screen time whenever the topic at hand suggests it should become a staple.
@RYZEN-4070-TI-SUPER-OC the trash can looked way too nice as well. That thing should have been covered in random bits of paint and adhesive and the bag should have been filthy just from being put inside of it.
Thank you for the fun year GN. I built my 2nd PC this year(with the Havn case, and 9800X3D!!) and so I'm glad there were actual new good products to use since my old rig(with the good ol gtx1060) was really struggling with games lately.
Finally bought a t-shirt for the store to show my support. Thank you Steve and the rest of the team. Thank you for being on the side of the consumer. This is honestly my favorite tech information yt channel. Happy new year!
I appreciate that you still do call out the good (and "meh") things before the bad ones. It's easy to just ride the engagement wave on full-on drama with no brakes nor perspective whatsoever, but even such a small preface should remind people why you are actually spending your time to talk about all this.
Thanks for all the great content in 2024 GN! I also really liked the style of this video, and can't wait to see what the future holds for the channel. Happy new year to you and the team.
Hey Ubisoft- You mention DVD's & CD's, I should let you know I know TONS of people that pirate all the time since you took the ownership from them. They used to happily pay for stuff, now they barely ever give the money over on "official services".
This is the biggest reason steam keeps winning. Steam knows the competition is literally free. Steam provides services and conveniences that make it worth paying for instead of pirating. Everyone else is trying to compete with steam and completely missing why steam wins
When Ubisoft told us , " Gamers should get comfortable not owning their games ", we gamers transitioned to non-buynary for Ubisoft products, telling these people, " Ubisoft CEO should get comfortable not owning his company " . And yes, they are in financial trouble now.

I tried posting a tip but youtube removed it because I mentioned consumer protection?- it was: GN needs a GN -styled trash-can that they can throw the inferior products into as a clear marking as of how bad they are, Sweden has a mythical Consumer-protector-Saint, Sverker Olofsson that did much of what you do until the corpo powers that be ended his segment, you need to pick up his trash can and drop the worst offenders in the can as a marking of what is a trash product for the end user.

I love how Steve still gently places the PC in the trash instead of just throwing it 😂

The director-style intro goes so hard. "It wouldn't have been a big loss if it fell" - God I love that unscripted wit! Lol
The 3D intro could use improvements though but if it was under crunch it's understandable.

In a world where everything is trying to turn into extortionate subscription fees - your toothbrush included - it's nice to see companies get called out for the BS that it is and to see you make people aware that this is happening.
hilarious intro, Andrew bringing GN to the next level with those animations! Also love the shout outs and past footage. Happy New year!
I’m a new subscriber sorta, and I just wanted to let you know, Steve, these are hands down, the best put together videos in this “genre” of videos. I know you have a team too, so I credit them as well. Happy New Year 🫡
Thank you! I'll share with the team. We really appreciate it and it means a lot! Happy new year!
For everything you guys have done in 2024, from the bottom of my heart,
Thanks Steve
Back to you, Steve
@@originalscreenname44 EA made some great stuff in the past. Now, it's another company I won't touch.

I was disappointed by the NZXT PC being carefully set down inside a clean trash bag.
@@AlaskanGamerGuy yeah, I never new how easy it could be to disrespect a trashbag

I appreciate that you still do call out the good (and "meh") things before the bad ones. Happy new year to you and the team.
Hey Ubisoft- You mention DVD's & CD's, I should let you know I know TONS of people that pirate all the time since you took the ownership from them. They used to happily pay for stuff, now they barely ever give the money over on "official services".
neat
This is the biggest reason steam keeps winning.
Steam knows the competition is literally free.
Steam provides services and conveniences that make it worth paying for instead of pirating.
Everyone else is trying to compete with steam and completely missing why steam wins
When Ubisoft told us , " Gamers should get comfortable not owning their games ", we gamers transitioned to non-buynary for Ubisoft products, telling these people, " Ubisoft CEO should get comfortable not owning his company " . And yes, they are in financial trouble now.
If purchasing is not ownership, then piracy is not theft. Yarr, weigh anchor and hoist the mains'l me hearties! Set course for the Bay!

Im really sure that thanks to you guys I got my Rog Ally serviced for free after buying one and sending it to warranty because one of the joysticks wasn't properly attached and moved sometimes, they actually not only did swap the joystick out but they swapped the whole motherboard and cooling solutions because they found it would cause problems in the long run for the micro sd card and the overall cooling of the machine, all for free. I only asked for a joystick replacement so it was a huge surprise they went above and beyond (maybe they just didnt want to deal with it later). Thanks again for your work guys!

RUclips censorship is really _random_.
