where i live (here in scandinavia), the best value high/midrange gpu has for a while been the 6950XT, since it has been on sale for nearly same price as the 6800XT cards. sadly power are more pricy up here, so power consumption has to come into consideration a lot more than for most of the world i gues. I did pick up the 6800XT in the spring however, but that was before the best prices of 6800XT/6950XT had hit the marked, due to my old 3060TI dieing within warrenty, so spend a bit extra to upgrade to the 6800XT. I fear a lot of users in northen europe may opt for RTX4000 series tho alone from the power consumption part, since thats prob a bigger deal here in manny cases.

People are buying it for that but it's a shortsighted business approach that will shrink the market cap for PC gamers as regular gamers will just buy consoles for the same or better performance. Or used older gen PC's like a 3080 build. I mean 6800 is old Gen now... Still crazy pricing wise for just playing games.
I.E. the prices even at what you say is far too high to truly be competitive. At these entry prices for even mid tier let alone high tier it's actually counter productive imo. The reason consoles do so well is because they get optimizations and they're affordable. For 500 you can have 4k 60fps or 1440p 120 in some titles. The prices only seem to be getting worse even. I think eventually they'll be threatened by cloud gaming and consoles to the point that it'll slowly become irrelevant if a competitor doesn't come out to drag these prices down to at least have a tier to compete with regular game stations.
If they took to performance optimizations and prioritized the actual cards we know people are really using? I could see that reversing. They could grow the community. But Windows itself puts a stranglehold on things.

If you want to argue that one card is overpriced fine, but you can't use that as an advantage to cheat and compare a budget card to a higher tier just because it's currently cheaper. So that means if you have less, it has to stream data from the SSD or system memory to the VRAM. Now if the delta between reserved and available is low it will manage, but you might get a few frametime spikes. But if it becomes too high you sill start to hit a point where it will be streaming too much and causes slowdowns. And you can cope with your 4070 all day, it doesn't negate the fact it has 4GB less, and it will at some point require you to drop texture settings way before I will. And you can have all the shiney RT reflections you want, that is way more noticeable. So kindly, get lost and take your copes with you.

Please make a video on undervolting 6800XT, it's such an underrated topic and the amount of power consumption (and noise respectively) you can drop is mindblowing.
Simply dropping Max Frequency to 2250 (maybe lower or higher depending on silicon lottery, go in increments of 25 and stay one increment below what you think is stable) and Voltage to 881 in Radeon software usually does it. 37.5% power consumption reduction in exchange for 5% fps loss (more like 3-4% really). YMMV but should be pretty close, especially on OC SKUs
Would be curious what can be achieved with 4060Ti though, so a head-to-head battle on sweet spot efficiency levels (where power consumption doesn't go exponential compared to FPS gained) would be interesting

Brutal and as a 4090 owner, this was satisfying to see. It's one thing to do a little of price gouging at the very top, but with this generation the very top end was a comparitively much better price vs performance competitor thannormal at the pretty extreme expense of the middle and lower tier cards.
And why I say that is at the very high end we're getting a great experience regardless and are paying a premium for bragging rights or just a marginally better experience where people at the other end are getting not only a significantly worse experience, but way less than normal longevity out of their cards. This is ripping off those who can't afford better, potentially costing them more in the long run, and creating a barrier of entry in the PC space that could potentially reduce the amount of PC gamers overtime. If I was on a strict budget, the consoles just become way too appealing imo.

I got myself a 6950XT for 620€ some weeks ago. That was when the 7800XT was still around 800€ and the 4070(Ti) also quite more expensive. Best buy ever. Tested drivers and extreme performance for a "cheap" card. I mean, when they released the 6XXX line I wanted a card for at max. 650€, so the 6800XT back then, but wasn't available because of the crypto boom.
The 6950XT is a hell of a beast for raster and RT also work okish. I don't use it anyway or not much, for me it's still more of a feature and not something must have. This will be, if we can run RT on a mid performance GPU at high frame rates.
The only downside to the 7800XT or 4070 Ti (I need/want the RAM, so no real alternatives) is the higher power usage. But I play in 3440x1440 and my monitor only supports 100hz max with free sync, so I use chill a lot. And I prefer nice graphics to high frame rates. 60 FPS works fine for me. More is noticeable, but as I don't play competitive anymore, I don't care. And after we move (soon), I have solar panels and a battery, that will mitigate a lot of my power bill.
So honestly, IMHO the past gen GPU's are still a lot more attractive then the current gen. But it gets there. Hell, AMD could've wiped the floor easily with Nvidia, if they had priced the new cards for like 600€ and 800€ for the XTX. And still get a large margin. But that would've annihilated their old stock and their sellers/producers, so I guess that's one of the main reasons, they didn't do it.

Had the intended MSRPs not been inflated by the last crypto-craze, Ampere would've had a much harder time with its fake MSRPs, as RDNA2 can obviously be sold at or even much below its original MSRP.
Tough sh*t for AMD that they seem to find themselves in one perfect storm after another, though. First the crypto-craze, now the AI-craze and then they missed their mark with RDNA3. Their Radeon division really deserves a lucky break.

In linux using ROCm the radeon cards are highly competitive in the AI space. We just saw a windows HIP SDK release, so they should become basically par with nvidia there for AI too in the near future.

The RX 6800 (NON XT) is CHEAPER, 15-20% FASTER AND has almost the same power draw. Nvidia is drunk, stop financing their sickness.

You guys should show BRs or shooters at competitive settings. At least it's what I always look for in benchmark videos

I said when the 6800XT came out that its going to be the next 1080ti, everyone laughed at me, well fast forward 3 years later......

I love my 6800 XT, even if I paid $560usd for it. It just powers through everything with no issues with heat and power and I never hear the fans spin up on my ASROCK model. Not my favorite GPU of all time, but a solid return to team red for the first time in a long time for me.

love my 6800xt. got it at msrp during the shortage, upgrading my 5500xt, and clearly won't be needing a new one for several more years.

The 6800xt is right up there with the 1080ti with it's ability to allow you to skip multiple generations of GPU upgrades. It's really that good.

Dang, it's funny seeing AMD's 1% lows higher than NVIDIA's Avg frame rate 😂. I wonder how the non-xt would fair against the 4060ti.

I would have loved to see that too because currently many 6800's (non XT) are sell for less than 500 USD. Power consumption is less than XT, too
