Here's to another lousy year of overpriced gpus and people defending them like their life is on the line.
Unfortunately
R.I.P PC gaming
Glad I got a 2070 super! I think it’ll last till 2026 pr 2027. The newer gpu’s are gonna be way overpriced.
I agree with your point but most of them are the type of people who shout "omg i wish its like the old days where 1060 was 200$!!" As if everything doesn't goes up in price and expect like its still 2016 all over again.
People say this every year and it will never stop
Honestly, buying a second-hand 6700XT for just about $200 a year ago might be my best tech related purchase ever.
Bought a used 6800xt for 320€.
200$ for a good 1440p card? Probably the best deal i've ever heard.
Same here, pairing it with the $90 12100 is the best thing for 60fps
Picked up a brand new one for $300 for my sons Xmas pc build. I also have a 6700xt I bought in March. Man has it been a solid gpu.
Yea same here, upgraded to a 3060ti for 220$. Now I don’t need to worry about upgrading
Have no fear, my overclocked GTX 1050Ti is here to run until the heat death of the universe
I guess you must not play many new titles.
@@DeadPhoenix86DP funny thing is low end gpu owners mostly do and tried to push their gpu and expect their trash gpu to be able to play the latest title still
you can get a new rx 6600 for just $180 and it will be a massive upgrade from the 1050Ti
I just upgraded my I5-9400f and GTX 1650 super to a Ryzen 5 5600x and 6800 (not xt) and it runs anything I throw at it at 1440p
@@Eleganttf2 Most games exceed the 4GB VRAM. Even 8GB is becoming a struggle on medium settings.
Wouldn’t get a 7700xt or a rtx4060ti in the mid range bracket …..it has to be a rx6800 every day of the week
Rx 6800 or Rx 7800 xt for me, unfortunately 6800 xt at a price lower than the 7800 xt seem to be disappearing
Or 6800XT. That's what I have
I couldn't find any 6800xt cards selling anywhere near msrp in Australia so I had to go with 7700xt when building a system for a friend recently.
@@AlexWilliams-yd4dv within the following months, if it continues to distance itself from the 7800xt in price, it may become a better value. Unfortunately, those not looking for new rdna3 features and just wanting rasterization don't need to look further than a 6800xt in that area, which will have a 7700xt beat. So sadly the 7700xt doesn't have a good showing and probably won't have one for at least a few months
Bought the rx 6800 a few months ago, Similar performance for cheaper.
I understand Arc is still working through driver issues, but I think it should have been at least included for discussion
As someone who owns one, I don't have any complaints. On modern games, my A750 plays everything I've thrown at it and I snagged it for $200. Driver updates are frequent and is way more stable than my 6600xt that it replaced. Battlemage might be a real game changer if they can keep it together until then.
yeah, vids I have seen show it trading blows with the RTX 4060 for $120 AUD less
Especially when the a750 can be had for just $190 now, and the a770 can be found for only $260, making it by far the cheapest access to 16gb of vram for anyone with memory heavy workloads.
I agree. I've been rocking the a750 for a while now and it has kept up.
I bought a 7800 XT Hellhound for 530$ and I love it. Can't see myself upgrading for at least the next 3-4 years.
Actually trolling or dont you have to pay for your own energy bill? 💀100W + more TDP for same FPS 🤯Or mb im just jealous because 7800XT is 750$ where I live 💀
a gpu uses hardly any energy compared to the price of 99% of things nowdays@@jrm8206
@@jrm8206 Why would I be trolling? Electricity is relatively cheap where I live, and I already undervolted it to consume only about 200W, most times it consumes way less than that since I cap the fps at 75 @1080p.
7800xt is the best card of the year. Easily
@@silversrayleigh1399why buy the fking card then 😂
I got myself a 16GB AMD 6950xt for £400. It's amazing and will last me for at least 4 years.
Same here. Finally some VRAM!
Transparency edit: for 599€ in Germany.
Just got myself a 6900 XT for about $550 USD new (supposedly, seems it was just tested), prices in my country are all over the place but this one was a steal (4060TI is 8GB is about the same, 4070 is $750)
That's actually a steal, even after considering exchange rate to $.
400£ that's a steal! I got mine new for 620£ a few months ago and that is a banging buy in this market. Nice
You will honestly be surprised at what that gpu can do, especially in Unreal Engine 5. It can meet or beat an rtx 4070 ti in almost all Unreal Engine 5 games because of how well AMD runs Software Lumen. 90% of Unreal Engine 5 games use Software Lumen (software like ray tracing) which doesn't require / need any special Hardware Tech to get the most performance. This is why AMD gpu's vs their equivalent nvidia gpu's run better in almost every game on UE5. The other 10% of UE5 games use no Lumen at all as the devs decide to take it out for some games. There may be like 1 actual game that has the Hardware Lumen Toggle available in the game and that 1 game will run better on Nvidia. You can look at daniel owen's Latest Unreal Engine 5 benchmark videos Amd vs nvidia to see for yourself.
Hmm I find it kinda strange you completely skipped over the 6700XT, considering its 12GB and good pricing and high popularity
I agree, gamers Nexus named it basically the best $300 card for the moola. It's makes it even more strange that he named BOTH the 7600 and 6650xt, which are basically twins, but not the 6700XT
i was wondering the same thing. does this guy even GPU?
The entire 300-400 USD range was skipped. That seems really weird.
Right? I saw it on sale one time hitting $310. At that price it makes a $280 4060 8gb absolutely look stupid
it's just a random list of cards with no thought put in. gotta make content for the algorithm
Running my 6900 XT for 3 years now...man what a great investment that was. Seeing current pricing and what you get for it is just disgusting .
got my self one of the last 6950xt for 550$ and its a beast. Team Red all day long
İ switched from a 3080 to a rx7900xt and am very happy ❤
@@urktklirk9770 What model did you go for? I bought Nitro+ since the cooler is so good looking and works great. Only thing not so good about it was that for some 100 EUR more there were some basic models of RX 7900XTX. But those were with basic coolers and without dual BIOS (XFX or Pulse models).
As someone who went from a 6950xt to a 7900xtx, you're dead wrong. There is a full generational bump in performance, along with using less power
6900 XT and 6950 XT were and still are amazing cards. I got mine for 600€, while even the much slower 4070 was 630€ at the time.
Intel Arc not even mentioned once. A750 is down to 180$ and is equivalent to 3060. How can you possibly not include that?
Because who wants to game at a 3060 level in 2024?
@@claysmurthwaite2386 Suppose you haven’t seen the video, they recommend even a worse gpu
really surprised you didn’t mention the 6750 XT for the 300$ range. It out performs the 4060 all day and is often less than 350$. I put one new in my friends build for 309$.
So true. About hits the sweet spot for lower 1440 and 1080 and is high performance for the price.
I grabbed a used 4070 Ti for >40% below MSRP last month and couldn’t be happier.
That's a nice catch indeed!
Well, if 4070ti was a lot cheaper, then it would be a stellar gpu for sure.
you could be happier if you managed to sell it fast with some profit or good price enough to buy a new one next month or the 4070 ti super 16GB with a little investment...it's a question of timing and luck...sell expensive before price goes down and buy similar or better new
@@InternetListener I hope to keep it for 5-6 years again like the 1060 before it. It’s unlikely, but a legitimate plan as I’ll be in my mid 40s by then.
Also, the rig is tucked away nicely and it wasn’t easy to install the massive Gaming X Trio in the first place.
@@Hombremaniacthis is exactly how Nvidia screws their customers. Instead of simply dropping the 4070ti price to be more competitive. They bring out a super card that will replace it for, likely, even more money. Even if it ended up the same money it will piss off those that purchased the older model. Lowering it's price would've been good enough and consumers would've felt it was a win.
I still feel like my Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT for $540 was a "good deal" considering the current prices. Surprised the 7800XT was glossed over in general here.
Same. I got it as a massive upgrade over my RX580 and hope to use it 5 years again
Looks like a great card and what I’m thinking of building around. Sucks that a good aftermarket 80 class card like that would be $300 max a decade ago but thems the times
Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT is a good GPU for sure, it just was not that better than RX 6800XT.
Still, if you have been upgrading from GPU 2 generations older, you did quite good.
Agreed. That and the 4070, which while getting a lot of hate, feels like a solid option in a similar price range depending on if you need some of the extra NVidia features and lower power usage or just better rasterization of the 7800 XT.
They talked about it in their pricing update video this week. They felt that the 7700XT is the better option if the 7800XT is north of the $500 MSRP.
Rx 6700 (nonxt) model is much better buy than both rx 7600 and rtx 4060. If you do not need av1 enc. definitely skip these gpus and buy an rx 6700 10gb.
If you dont have to pay your own energy bill that is. 6700 is 100$ a year more expensive 😂
@@jrm8206 depends on where you live. We game on 250-350W cards, to a sub 200W card is no issue here
@@jrm8206not even the country on switzerland is gonna charge you that much of an electricity bill extra for having a 6700 in your system
@@jrm8206 more like $10 extra at most :D It is only 10w more than rx 7600 and 60w more than rtx 4060. Where do you live exactly?
@@jrm8206 true energy bill are important, i use wattmeter my rx6600 use atleast 105w when stress test occt (less with gaming/vsync/fsr2)
that's $100+ (currency conversion) per year just for gpu not include whole system + monitor.
i'm not from europe so energy are cheap here.
In March, I bought an MSI RX6750XT trio plus for a very sharp price. I don't use it for gaming, but my audio producing rendering from multitracks is going a lot faster than the GPU I had before, a nVidea T1000 8Gb ddr6 card. I'm happy with it, it provides my 2 x 27" - 1440p monitors @ 165Hz great performance. Furthermore, I paid around €320 for the GPU.
I got the 7900XT for $759, seems like a good deal.
i got my 3060ti for $800 lol, but this was like 3 years ago
Upgraded from reference RX 5700XT to RX 7800XT Nitro+ and I'm pretty happy with it so far. It's completely inaudible in silent bios, and only I can only sometimes hear it in OC bios, big difference compared to a reference blower.
Really quick in raster rendering which is most of the games I play, and while it's slower than a RTX4070 in RT it's still definitely usable. Hoping to keep it for ~4 years at least.
I did the same upgrade, although from a Sapphire RX5700XT Nitro+ to a Powercolor Hellhound RX7800XT. My gaming experience at 1440p has seen details set to maximum, and being able to undervolt in older games, means that the new card runs considerably better while pulling much less power at around 140-160watts, where the old 5700XT would pull 210-230watts and at lower details.
That said, the 5700XT served me very well indeed, and I'm hoping the 7800XT will do the same. 😎
you dont need to worry about RT since no one even use that feature only the 4080-4090 users but below that 2 GPU they dont use it since after using it they only get 30fps on 1080p
No mention of Intel's A750 for the low end? You might also have mentioned the A380 as a secondary GPU for those who want something purely for AV1 encoding.
A very merry Christmas to you all at HUB.
They don't have a category for alpha and beta tester GPU's.
@@technicallycorrect838 They tested the 6600! Which is a buggy mess.
@@davidhartenstine190 2015 called because they want their opinion on AMD drivers back.
@@technicallycorrect838 your reply is outdated bro, my A350 is pretty nice now
I have the rx6600 and the rx5500xt I switched because your 2015 drivers are still broke.@@andersjjensen
No mention of the 7800XT, which seemed about the best performance/money when you reviewed it? Did the price change so much?
Just me or no Intel Arc is mentioned??
The 4070, being the most energy efficient card out there now that won't require most users to upgrade their PSU, is, to me, more appealing than both the 4070 ti and also than the 4060 ti at todays prices.
I agree, it's clearly above the 4060ti in performance while offering the same 12GB framebuffer as the substantially more expensive 4070ti. It's even just fast enough for playable results in the fully RT cyberpunk mode with DLSS3.5 (as shown in the HardwareUnboxed video), and while the AMD competition is a little faster in pure rasterisation it can't equal that
imho still too expensive unless you use it also for productivity. too expensive as a gaming only gpu
The 4070 is a solid GPU, but overpriced by around $100-$130.
Odd that he completely skipped over the 4070 when it's one of the few cards that actually halfway makes sense this generation. Not as underpowered as the 4060ti but not as stupidly overpriced as the 4080. Plus it's getting just powerful enough that DLSS, frame gen, and raytracing start to become viable. It's a great 1440p card and DLSS can push you into 4k territory on all but the most demanding games. When the 4070 super launches at $600 I have little doubt we'll see the vanilla 4070 drop to $500 which is a solid price point for it.
@@zodwraith5745 imho the 4070 for pure game is still stupidly overpriced, AMD at that price range for gaming is the unquestionable choice especially now that FSR3 is coming out. And I say that as a owner of a 4070, but I use it also for AI where sadly there is no other choice
Did I miss why you didn't mention the 4070 and 7800 in the $500-550 range? Or are you saying you wouldn't spend the extra $100 to jump from a 4060 TI 16GB or 7700XT? I figured you'd mention them in the 400-550 range, but you only talked about the bottom of the range, completely ignoring what I feel is the 2 sweet spot cards.
I love my 4070 myself. Undervolted to run at stock (and a 1000 memory overclock) and rarely pulls more than 150w, and has been great for 1440P gaming. Meanwhile the 7800XT arguably could have been a better choice if I didn't regularly use the encoder and NVidia Broadcast features of the card, so it's a solid choice for many.
7800 was glossed over because it went up $50 and the 7700 went down $50
but 4070 was skipped completely for some reason
@@tyre1337 the price fluctuates because it's popular. Everyone recommends it. You can buy a 7800xt for 510-520.
4060ti 16gb is recommend, yet by far the worst card of the generation. I think he is just clueless.
@@tyre1337 Ahh, I must have missed that. Still, both run around $550 right now, and were worth at least a mention, because the 4070 or 7800 XT is well worth the $100 upgrade over the 4060 TI 16.
Went from console to my first pc build this year. Got 7900xtx and can't believe how amazing gaming can actually get
Where are the intel GPU's? They are not even tested?
Been quite impressed with the RX 6600 esp with experimental drivers
*clutching my Arc hard in my hands*
Shh... i still love you A770
i won't abandon you...
until Battlemage ofc
The prices are beyond out of control, I don’t have kids, have a roommate, work as a mid level professional, don’t own a car, and a single computer upgrade is one of just a few things I can afford in a year. I have coworkers who can only afford to rent a bedroom. Smh, corporations are wrecking employees for nothing while taking in record profits and wages for the top people.
Intel Arc A750 kind of best bang for the buck for bottom of the bucket. Why is it not mentioned?
I picked up a new 6800XT for $440 from Newegg and I love it. I actually feel like I got a good deal.
steal for that price! got XFX Merc 6800 XT in summer for pretty good price, its amazing... prices of 7800 XT are still bit too high here
One of the biggest issues right now is people jumping ship on 1440p. Too many people jumping on ultrawides, super ultrawides and 4k without realizing their GPU is going to cry.
i will stay on my 1080p ship until it sinks under the water. im going down with it
Not sure where you're getting the $2k from for the 4090. Some AIBs maybe trying to charge that but the FE is still $1.6k and is obtainable. They've been in stock quite a few times over the last few weeks, often for several hours at a time.
The prices are going up and down so I would assume the average of all or a large amount of 4090 cards whether you check pc part picker or amazon or newegg etc.
No mention of ARC.
But wait, where are the 4070 and 7800xt in the mid-range options pack, why only the questionable 4060ti (16) and 7700xt covered?
may i ask why you didn't include Intel ARC cards?
Too bad not to have included the 4070 in the viable options around $550-600 but thanks for the video😀
I agree. Right now if you want a high end gaming rig but money doesnt grow on trees for you. $550 at Newegg is the way to go. Its a powerful card.
Probably because of the incoming Super line.
Yea 4070 is the one decent 40 series card for the price.
You get bonus stuff with it too. I got Alan Wake 2, that's like 60 bucks right there
@@ronchu4453
If you are that poor, buying new is hardly the first choice for anyone with a working brain
I bought rx 6700 xt for 500 euros a year ago and for me it's a real entry-midrange king now when price dropped.
Where is intel cards??
I got a 7900 XT for $720 around Black Friday and I couldn’t be happier.
Still happy with the 7900XT I got for $720. Not a perfect card but it's served me well. I'm not planning to upgrade for a long time :)
Had to pay much more but no can do, had to upgrade from my R390 8Gb
6950XT was the best offering this year. For most of the year it was available for 550-650€ (MERC edition), offering High-End performance with 16GB Vram. Compare that to the 4070Ti that goes for 800-1000€ and has the same performance with just 12gb Vram. There is no doubt in my mind that it was the only viable Price/performance option for WQHD and above this year.
Wow 800-1000 euros. My 4070Ti was only $730. 6950XT was $100 less but no RT performance was a deal breaker.
I got a 7900XTX gaming trio card which I hadn't seen any reviews for and it was mega cheap where I was - around 32% less than a 4080 at the time. Got to say I was impressed by it and it'll hopefully last me as long as my 1080Ti has :) 3 months in and it's still a quiet little card too. I was unsure about moving from Nvidia after so many years but have to admit the AMD software side is just better in almost every way!
I went full AMD 7700x and 7900xtx last feburary. I am so thankful I did. I am loving the 7900xtx and refuse to pay more than $1000 for any type of card! I am so impressed with Amd software, FSR3 , I am loving avatar : fop. AMD is winning! I have used 23 GB of vram many times now so I am glad I have tons instead of the weak 12gb or 16gb Nvidia cards.
Same, I bought my XTX in January for 980 euros. It was more expensive compared to today's prices but in that same time that was waaay cheaper than 4080 (~1350eur) or 4090 (1700eur+). So it was no brainer.
Im about to do the same upgrade from a 3070 did u formated your pc to switch from nvidia to amd or did u use DDU?, also one last question are the gpuy drivers as bad as people say they are?
RTX 4090 is the top GPU, thanks Steve for confirming :)
@@ms3862 yea and also expensive af not everyone can afford it
why didn't you mention any intel gpu?
What's with the Intel Options?
Intel's drivers are currently worse than AMD's drivers ever were, yet channels recommended against AMD because of the hiccups here and there. When Intel get to the point where their drivers are in the state AMDs were in 2015, then we can start having that discussion. But that's a year or two out from now.
you own an arc card to judge that, right?
well i do, and drivers are in good condition. not perfect, as there are games that Do have issues, but overall arc runs stable and unobstrusive.
Happy i got my 6800 xt almost 3 years ago.Best Investment seeing how little improvement gen over gen was made.
same here brother. got it for 380 bucks during its pandemic pricing. best purchase i had. could easily game at 1440p ultra on most games at least 60 to 120 fps.
Where's the Intel cards?
Still quite happy with my 3080Ti + 9900K@5Ghz + 64GB DDR4 3600.
When rtx 4070 was released you were pretty soft with the review and said that is probably best 40 series gpu bang/buck after 4090. Any reason now for not including into midrange gpu?
I realize they might not be great general value, but why arent the Intel A750/770 anywhere in your charts? I just snagged an open box A750 at $179. I think from some of the benchmarking I saw it should be compelling value at that price given the competition. I also snagged an open box 7900xt for $690 so im happy. The boxes are so big because they they have to make it feel like you really bought $700+ worth of hardware.
7900XT TUF here. I love it ❤
Steve I know you are not inclined to recommend these GPUs, but the entry level GPU pricing, Intel ARC has it covered. I bought the ARC A770 16GB Titan for just $259 this past November.
Sure some of the older games require a bit of retweaking/tinkering with game files (Arkham Knight for example) to run but the newer games do work without much effort (like Control in DX11 or 12 or A Plague Tale Innocent) and run superb!
I surprised none of the Intel Arc cards were even mentioned. I bought Limited Edition Arc A750 on Amazon when it was on sale for 180 USD for the seconday PC I built nd it has been working quite well (sadly the sale is over and it's now around $210).
I think Intel should be at least considered for anyone looking to get a GPU on a budget. Just make sure you have a motherboard with Resizable Bar and PCI Express 4.0 and a good wattage power supply (as Intel GPUs are more power hungry than Nivia or AMD, which I experienced first hand) and you will be good to go.
I feel like a glaring omission from the $300 range is the 6700 non-xt. It is 5-10% within the 6700xt for a much lower price. I think it would compare favorably against the 7600 and 4060 for a similar or even lesser price. (There's one on sale now for $260 US)
Picked up a 6800 xt on newegg for $450 a couple weeks ago and they are still going for around that price. It absolutley clears in that price category.
What? Intel Arc doesn’t even get a mention?
Im glad I was lucky to get 4090 strix for 1500$ and that was a big purchase for me still think it’s way to expensive, should be no more than 1200$
Strix for that price is a good deal imo cheapest 4090 in my country is almost 3000 usd currently
Still rocking a 5700XT. Thinking about a 6800 upgrade or wait for the 8000 or Super cards.
You talked about both the "laughably bad" 4060ti 8GB and the 16GB version and didn't even mention the 4070, which - compared to the rest of this generation - has a pretty good value for the money. I'd love to hear why it was omitted.
This is Hardware Unboxed. There's a very slight bias against Nvidia.
12GB at that price point is pretty sad.
@@FrietjeOorlog you're not gonna run out of the 12GB at 1440p. 12 is fine for that.
The 4070 is really the only decent value from nvidia but the 7800 XT is both faster and cheaper. Compared to last gen cards though, both aren't great value.
@@kazirk8 I'd like it to still be enough 2 years from now too. Plus at any rate if I'm paying that kind of money for a GPU it damn well better also run great at 4K. No matter what BS Nvidia pulls with shifting the names of the 'class of card'. At this price point it isn't a 1440p only card.
I would wait personally for the 4070 Ti Super. Swapping AD104 to AD103 and a jump to 16gb could be a very nice upgrade at a looks like much lower price than the 4080.
Yup was waiting for the 4070 ti but the 12 gig was a no for me as for AMD its more expenssive than nvidia in my country but now going to 16g im definitely getting it saved for 2 years cant wait for the upgrade from 730 gt ;)

4070/7800XT you should go with 1440p. Wait on Super series 8 January, prices will maybe drop and 4070 Super will be the best Performance/price choice.
@@CrazO9111 oh ok, then let me see what the super offers, after that I will make a decision.

I was in the same spot, at 1080 w a 2070. Got a 4070 to jump up to 2k resolution. No regrets whatsoever. Go for best price vs features you want, but I'd say you will be satisfied with either card.
4060 is trash compared to the 6700xt
RTX 3080 proved a good investment. Feature-rich, mature drivers, OC+UV. I'll keep waiting for 50 series.
Now you’re speaking my language, 3080ti here and on the AM5 platform, ready for the 5000 series cards and can even CPU upgrade if necessary (unlikely since I got the 7800x3d)
Seems like everyone is waiting on the 50 series... alot of demand is certainly going to strain the market.
Honorable mention for bottom of the barrel segment, arc a750 and a580
If I was building a secondary budget machine, I wouldn't mind playing around with one of those. If the drivers were mature, it would probably start getting recommended.
the arc drivers are fine. right now i dont notice a difference between my 6800xt and a770
I went crazy mode and bought the 4090 (also because I have a 1600p ultrawide). It sits idle on most days, and was destroyed soundly by the shitty Starfield, reminding me that optimisation is still more important than raw hardware and having the time to actually play games is more important than the fantasy of completing one's backlog of 350 titles.
What are your specs and how much did you pay for your build?
Most of the people buying the 4090 for 2k don't have more money than you. They're just putting it on affirm or some other payment plan and sinking even farther into debt.
This is actually true, i thought when they were selling out that there was just so many rich gamers ruining the market but it turns out it's poor and average people getting them on credit.
No Arc? Very disappointing Hub, very disappointing!
Surprised there is no mention of the Arc cards?
Probably still need driver work done before a recommendation at any price point is plausible
sucks at older games and not up to par yet
@@twanc156 Yes, this is sadly true. DOSBox in Windows 10 quit working with Arc cards 3.5 months ago with driver 4676, and with Intel's attitude, they may never fix that. I'm going to have to switch back to my AMD card soon. Can't stick with an old Arc driver forever just because Intel is snubbing DOSBox. Shame really, I really like my Arc a750, but with no DOSBox support I gotta move on.
I believe it also lacks native dx9 and relies on emulation which is another reason it's not great with older titles @@wjack4728
Very funny and informative… so 4090 is your recommendation?
Yes ha ha.
I was nervous to buy my first AMD card earlier this year. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on an XFX 7900XTX. I've gotta say, I really have no complaints. My 3080 was struggling to get high fps in Apex on 1440p, and now I can get 300 if I want (Usually cap at 240 though). I've also played an array of new AAA games that will use up to 20gb of VRAM (New Warzone, Half Life Alyx, Hogwarts etc). I never had any issues with temps like some of the reference cards had at launch. AV1 for game replays is a bit of a let down, or I don't know how to properly setup the recording. Seems like the audio and video are lacking compared to when I would record with Nvidia. That's a pretty small con to me though.
Before 2020, it was always high end and brand new for me, 780, 980ti, 2080ti... Now I'm rocking a 2nd hand 3080 and quite possibly looking for a second hand 4080 come 2024. 😅
Good thing that GPU mining is a thing of the past so buying used gpu should not mean any risk of it being abused by endless mining.
GTX 1080 Ti was the last good "highest end" card to buy.
@@KimBoKastekniv47 3080 would've been a good replacement had it actually sold for the MSRP

Between $400-550 and the main discussion was between the 4060ti and 7700xt? What? 7800xt is $500 and blows both away, 4070 (non ti) can be had in that range as well.

Can't wait to see what kind of insane performance will be available in a 4000€ gaming gpu next gen!
Why the Intel GPUs are completely ignored? With continious driver updates and lower than expected price, they are pretty good option. ARC A380 6Gb at lower than $100, A750 below $200 and A770 16GB at $250 are pretty compelling product.
Yeah the Intel GPUs are great, totally mystifying why they aren’t included here, but old terrible gpus like the 1630 are lol
nah they aren't. Lacks native DX9 support and drivers are still not up to par yet. I rather a 6650xt or RX 7600 at $250 and a $190 6600 over an A750
@@twanc156lack of DX9 only affect a very few % of customers playing really older games. And I don't think you've checked the recent reviews about the DX11 updates. Why no mention of the 4070 in the mid tier? It seems to be a good fit from where I'm looking.
Bought a 7900XTX upgrading from a 1080ti, also upgraded to 4K. My entire PC, cost about the same as a RTX 4090. I agree with the sentiment that I wish people didn't buy that product at all, it sends the 'wrong' message, imo, that being "Nvidia, charge whatever you like, we're willing"
For a 4090 level card you're absolutely into luxury territory as the only reason you need it is if you're spending substantial amounts of money on a display and other hardware as well. I run an LG CX48 OLED at 4k/120Hz and so I'm $1500 us into my setup already right there. Hoping to get a card cheaper than the display feels a big naive. Nobody, literally nobody, needs the 4090 for gaming so it being exorbitant on price is fine.
I'd love to have gotten my 4090 for 1K but that's a dream.
I would have bought a 4090 if they sold at MSRP, sadly I still overpaid for the 4080 getting that exactly at MSRP. Not unhappy, just not rolling in cash either. Especially now. The 4080 now needs to last me 3+ years.
RTX 4080 WILL last that long no problem. 16GB of VRAM is enough, plus in its final days you can use DLSS performance + frame gen to make do.
Loving rtx 4080 absolutely insane jump from 3070. I play everything 4k ultra with rtx and 120fps. Thats some great standard.

far from a beta product and deserving at least some budget respect. we need more diverse builds around, not less.
@@technicallycorrect838 I'd rather see an intel recommended rather than a 16gb 4060ti . at least it's cheap
Why mention them? They are basically at perf/$ parity with AMDs stuff, but suck more power and have drivers that are worse than AMDs were at their worst in 2014-15. People generally expect AMD to be 20%-ish cheaper per frame than Nvidia due to features and drivers, so I'd expect the same further discount for Intel. Currently both the RX 6600 and A750 are $190. The A750 is ~10% faster, so it needs to be 10% cheaper. At $170 it has a solid case. At $190, just go AMD and trade the 10% performance for having every game in your Steam library run.
@@andersjjensen you're generalizing performance there while it's very much different per game and usage-- the 16gb on the a770 and the av1 encoder on all models can be put to use and help them edge out for some builds as well. Picked up the 6950 XT on sale for 600 to replace my 2080 and am honestly extremely pleased. AMD still requires more tweaking and fine tuning to get things to run well. But it's not any different than that last time I used then with the R200 series.

Would be really nice to have some recommended upgrade options for people running things like an RX470-580. Anything in that price range seems to have less VRAM (like 4-6GB down from 8GB), but is performance drastically better?
