🎬 Video Overview:
This is another client kitchen cabinet painting follow along. This kitchen was a two toned project. I did white on the uppers and navy blue on the lowers. I did a grain filler on the white, but not the blue as explained in the video.

I grain filled and painted my golden Oak cabinets in two bathrooms and my kitchen. I used the flexio 5000 and it came out great!! So much so my wife had me paint a bed and our front door with it also 😂😂 I learned so much watching DIY painting first though THANKS for sharing so much info !!
Very impressive. Where do you live? Are you available for hire to spray my cabinets. Also how do you deal with painting ugly popcorn ceilings?
My home is small and I have a lot of furniture that will be difficult to move.
Marilyn
I like the 2 tone. Outfits...just be comfortable. That's all that counts! Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
Love your projects! And thanks for the sprayer recommendation. Crocs + Socks is the new painting attire.
Hi, I just want to say your videos are great! My question is about the primer under the dark color. Is it not necessary to tint the primer because the color is so dark?
No. Typically two coats of any color will cover a white primer. I. Theory, tinting a primer is great and can’t hurt, but I don’t find that it actually helps much either.
Question I’m going to be using the sherwin extreme bond primer with the SW emerald as top coats any experience on diluting them by 20%? The man at the SW store said no more than 5% cause it can change the chemistry? Any suggestions?
Watched the whole thing! I’ve been following your process and products on my cabinets and it’s going great! Thanks for your inspiration and tips!
Enjoyed this video - thank you. One question IF you see/respond to this... my understanding of BM Advance is that white will yellow over time. Any concerns about that from you or your clients? Thanks again.
I must have watched your videos on cabinets at least five times all the way through. Ended up getting the Flexio 5000 because of your recommendation. I tackled my kitchen remodel myself having never used a sprayer in my life LoL. It turned out great!!!
thank you for the video. What is the color code the navy blue? I couldn't find the navy blue in BM.
I made it to the end!!! I prefer socks and flip flops-
You paint over the metal hinges? No problems with them opening and closing?
hi. I would like to know if you can paint melamine kitchen cabinet with a primer first and Advance paint for the finish in satin. Michele
Why are you intermittently adjusting the nozzle as your spraying?
I love my crocks and socks haha they're comfy what can I say?!
why don't you spare the inside of the cabinets ? thanks
Great video and great job. I have the same sprayer have used it for a lot of projects and love it! I purchased from someone who never used it for 100$. Did you have the settings maxed out? I adjust all the time but maybe I don't need to?
Yeah, I have the air maxed out. I only mess with the trigger adjustment to change the material flow.
Incredible, will definitely be trying this method, however I am questioning the sanding. I am repainting my kitchen cabinets and don’t know if all that is needed is just a light sand perhaps?
Sanding is a really important step for the durability of your cabinets. It's so easy, I would really suggest not to skimp on sanding. Bad sanding can lead to peeling.
As always a great video.
Can I sleep next to that room after painting?
Great video!
is the flexio 5000 still good for spraying flat?
and would it be fine for interior walls and ceilings as well?
Yes, it is great for those jobs as well.
I'm really wanting to DIY my cabinets the easiest way possible. because of an injury, I've been living in my recliner since 5/21/21. My wife has been Wonder Woman/Everything. I'm not allowed to move too much, but I can take little steps. I can't repeat the steps. The cabinets around my stove are old kitchen greased. I'm the cook in the family. If I take one cabinet at a time, I can do the uppers. I might get volunteers for the lowers. Painting in place, on the wall. Disabled Vet trying to make momma smile. Who's your Fav, Chip and Jo, or Mike and Jenny?
Would you like to collaborate?
Great video! Watched all of it.
Great videos! I'm going to use your recommendations and tips on my own project next week. I'm curious - why not use any protection over the paint (poly, shellac, etc.)? I've never done this before and was surprised to see you don't use anything. Much appreciated!
I nearly didn’t make it to the end. Your ‘man capris’ were triggering me 😂. You’re giving me courage to redo my golden oak cabinets. Thanks.
Well I made it through the video and I prefer the sweatpants knickers along with socks and Crocs.. So there you go!!
Nice of you to share your experience and techniques in this subject. The cabinets look amazing 👍Watched your other video on making grain fill, noticed you applied it to the cabinets prior to priming but not sure if it’s required but should the prefill be sanded down a bit prior to applying primer coat or just prime over it then sand down prior to first top coat? Thanks for the help
Great video.
What is the sheen? I know it’s personal preference but what is most common
Satin is the most common sheen by far. Probably 98% of what I spray.
Just bought a new house and want to redo the kitchen. You have the best videos I watched your 36 minute video on a really good size kitchen and loved it and now enjoyed watching this one gave me hope that I can actually accomplish this.
great inspiration. question, what did you do to paint behind the overlay of the drawer fronts on the face frame?
I absolutely loved your videos and I watch every minute of each one! Thank you. When I hire a painter, I will know what to ask! Fun!
Good video. I have old built in white kitchen cabinets that have been painted maybe three times in 70 years. I scraped off some of the top paint on the cabinet doors below the kitchen sink and now I'm not sure what to do to prep these to repaint. Upper cabinets look better but a little bit of the paint was able to be scraped off at the spot where people open them without using the handles. Also, I want to change the hinges. They are outer, not hidden, and I can't turn the screws (I think because of paint build up) to take them off. Should I use a paint remover product on all of the doors and the hinges (to get to the slot in the screws)?
Thanks for reviewing the wagner flexio 5000. I am planning on using it soon for my kitchen cabinets. I have never used a spray before, but I have watched a few of your videos and I have learned a lot. Thanks 😊
Love it! Great job, LOVE these videos. There is so much great info. Can't wait to do my kitchen this fall. Thanks, and keep the videos coming!
Can you use a brush instead and get a similar finish?
You can get a great finish with a brush and roller. Just requires a different process. I am working on making videos addressing this!
Awesome video and really looking forward to your in-depth video on these types of low-cost sprayers. Also, what are the names of the colors you used here? It came out so beautifully!
I built shaker doors for my cabinets. Almost complete with the prep work. I ordered that same primer and will be picking up the advance for my finish coat. I’m not new to spray painting but this is my first attempt at spraying kitchen cabinets. I have a Graco trueCoat 360 airless sprayer. What are your thoughts on spraying with this style of airless? I don’t want to screw them up😂. I’ve also watched some people use gravity guns. Thanks
It's a fine sprayer, not my favorite, but it gets the job done. My issue with the Truecoat 360 is that it is a piston /airless sprayer but doesn't have the ability to store built up pressure. So you get a pulsating spray. You can get a great finish with it, it just takes some practice.
Watched the whole video. Another great job!
This a great video. I have been looking at cabinet painting videos for a year. I feel the more videos I watch I'll get the courage to do it. 😅 These cabinets look exactly like ours and seeing you didn't remove the doors is definitely a plus.
QUESTION: I wasn't planning on changing the hinges, would it be okay to leave them on the doors and not change them after they got painted?????
I watched the whole video by the way! 🥳
If it doesn't bother you, you can leave the hinges on and get paint on them if they are hidden. I don't think it would bother me personally. Makes the job A LOT easier!
Just curious, why didn’t you take of the cabinet doors to spray? Is it more based on customer cost or preference?
He said that the customer was going to get new hinges and so he didn't need to take them off.
First of all thanks for the video! I have a cheap gravity help with which I have had terrible luck using with any kind of paint (does well with lacquer though). What might I be doing wrong, need different tip? I'm about to spray my kitchen and don't mind the additional cost of 222 bucks but would just like to know. Thanks again.
Without knowing your gun or setup, I don't really know what to tell you. But the Flexio sprayers are really good. Even with buying a sprayer, the cost of DIY vs hiring is still about 1/10
@@diypainting I understand, thanks
what do you use for grain fill
Do you only do one coat of the primer and top coat ?
One coat primer, two top coats. Occasionally 3.
What if I want to paint the inside of the cabinets too?
Simply don't prep them off, clean them, scuff them, and spray or roll the insides. If you spray them, it can be kind of miserable as the spray will blow back in your face. So you have to wear a good face mask. Rolling is slower, but looks fine inside cabinets and won't blow back in your face.
Great painting outfits
Glad you like them!
So, they wanted their walls/ceiling painted as well I take it? Were you doing that job as well or another contractor?
More often than not, clients do want their walls painted when they change the color of their cabinets. I usually add that into my project as well. If they don't want their walls painted, but they do have the color or leftover paint from the last time they painted their kitchen, I will caulk the cabinets to the wall, overspray onto it, then touchup their walls so it looks perfect. Only when they don't want the change the wall color AND they don't have access to the original color/paint, do I prep off the walls (this is rare).
@@diypainting I thought so. Thanks man!
