There's a cocktail that's been around about 100 years called "The Last Word." It's a strange combination of ingredients that works: equal parts green Chartreuse, Luxardo marachino liqueur, gin, and lime juice. I can see how some might hate it, but I love it.
Was able to try the yellow one in Spain where it sells for 11.99 while in Switzerland it sells for 60. The yellow one has an anise dominace and it is very sweet. It still is a nice liquor although i definitely prefere the green one.
Loved your video. I currently have 2 bottles of Green Chartreuse and 1 bottle of the yellow, I love them both! Your video just made me take a sip out of my open bottle of Green Chartreuse that I keep under my desk when I want to feel like a monk!
Thank you! Finally someone who knows how to do a good comparison and give me information that will actually help me make this decision. I haven't had yellow chartreuse in probably 20 years because it's not been available and now that it's back again I am excited to try it.
Thank you for the comparison! I’ve tried green but with the shortage I was wondering how the yellow compares. Great description. Can’t believe you don’t have more views!
I’ve only tried the yellow m.o.f.s as it was gifted to me instant love 🥰 I love it neat or mixed on a hot day, I’ve tried everything and it’s my favourite hands down so I’ve just stuck with it for the last few months maybe it’s time to experiment as they’re very easy to find where I’m at..
The thing about chartreuse is that it does not take much! So the bottle lasts a long time! I can get the 350 ml bottle sometimes which helps on the $ side! Great vid girl! Cheers!
Only tried the green one and it was so complex that you can zip for hours guessing what herbs are in it. I tasted balm, mint, anise and juniper although the juniper is not dominant like a gin. Everytime you try it you discover some new tastes. Very interesting liquor witch in my opinion is more like a herbal medicine elixir but absolutely a joy to drink.
We had a taste test between the green and yellow with family members. Surprisingly to me green was preferred by all but one. On a side note a few drops over vanilla ice cream or on top of strawberry shortcake with whipped cream takes dessert to another level. We in NJ pay about $52 per bottle on sale. Thanks for the fun video!
Over strawberry shortcake... what a wonderful idea!! I bet the herbal quality plays really nicely with the sweetness and tartness there. Thanks for sharing!! :)
That's pretty cool - I didn't realize you do tasting in the office vs. drink making in your bar. Clever to have consistency in experience. Another channel we follow called The Drinking Buddy used Chartreuse in his cocktail too. I don't think we've ever even tried it, but looking forward to it now. - Cam and Theresa
So I started doing those in my office completely by chance 😂 I had a new bottle I needed to try, and didn’t have the time to do my usual 3 camera kitchen set. So I popped my iphone on my desk and just did a quick review. I liked it, so now here we are. LOL!!
Still didn't buy a bottle yet. No idea why but I may need to find some mini bottles as I barely used them for cocktails. However, I use Chartreuse Elixir Vegetal Liqueur with over 130 medicinal and aromatic plants and flowers with over 130 medicinal and aromatic plants and flowers. Excellent video 👏
I'm incredibly jealous that you can get the Chartreuse Elixir in the UK- we can't get it here in the states!! Gonna have to make a REALLY long trip to the store for that one. LOL!
Thank you!! I'm excited to play with these in some cocktails... as much as I enjoyed sipping them neat, that green really wants to be in a glass with friends!
Oh no! Rob, I'm becoming seriously concerned about your lack of access to certain delicious things. I think we might need an air drop of cocktail supplies, Red Cross style. Maybe get FEMA involved. At the very least, some American/Canadian bootlegging is in order. 😂
Great review. Yellow Chartreuse has such a great taste. I really love how it end up in the "Shanghai Gin" cocktail. I totally recommend it. Green is more expensive, but hopefully I will get me a bottle some time soon. Cheers!
I’ve been drinking the yellow m.o.f.s probably my favourite alcoholic beverage ever..I mix it also one 1/2 shot chartreuse one shot pasubio or any good vermouth and I top it with Sprite a great sipper on a hot day..
Chartreuse is hard to find in my area as well. I am in agreement that it is becoming more and more popular with cocktails. Awesome information so much stuff I didn't know. I had concluded that the Yellow Chartreuse was Yellow and the Green Chartreuse was Green but outside of that I didn't know much lol
I would love to, but unfortunately, I found those at a yard sale! I have not come across them online or in a store... however, if you search "mini snifter", you'll find things that are close :)
My local store thought the green was a cheap wine and sold me 3 bottles for $10 each..... I'm on my last one and I drink it neat or with a splash of water to open it up depending on the mood.
In Belgium the regular green Chartreuse is about 45 euros. That's about 50 USD. We can get it in every liquor store without any problem. My preferred choice is the green V.E.P. Its essentially green Chartreuse that aged at least 8 years in oak barrels. Its less vibrant green, has received a little brownish splash. It is definitely less sweet (sugar) then the regular. But most importantly it has an increased complex taste. Once you tasted VEP, you'll find the regular tasting less good. The VEP is now so hard to get, that they get auctioned starting with prices from 200 euros for a 1 liter bottle.
I can get them all very easy but I’ve been stuck on the yellow m.o.f.s which is the yellow aged version the green aged is only $10 more looks like I’m buying that next.
Great video, as always! I want to get Chartreuse, but they are so pricey! I keep looking for a mini-bottle of it so I can try it and see how I like it before committing to a big bottle.
Thank you so much!! And yes, it's one of those bottles that hurts the wallet, but pleases the pallet. LOL!! I wonder if you can order the minis through Flaviar or Reserve Bar... hmmmm
Wish I could go back in time and buy up all the yellow bottles that I once saw on a clearance rack at Binny’s here in Illinois. Both bottles are amazing.
Oh man, you found the one thing that makes me cringe!!! SO medicinal, I have a hard time with that one outside of a singapore sling. I guess I should do a Benedictine vid, and compare the B&B to the DOM. Dammit man. I'm not buying those bottles... time to borrow. LOL!
Wow that is expensive. Instead of buying Chartreuse, what would be a less expensive knockoff? Love your commentary, great desciption. Were you thinking these could be an "aperative" after dinner drink? You have beautiful hair btw. LOL I don't like Gin, but I heard gin goes good with this.
Thank you so much! Honestly, I'm not sure what a good replacement would be- it's a pretty unique spirit. I think maybe explore some other botanical or complex liqueurs instead- Have you ever had Drambuie? That's one of my favs, and much more accessible. Excellent as an after dinner drink. Cheers!
Green is so amazing in the drinks it's in, I think its just slightly limited due to its potency and strong notes, takes over drinks easily. I will need to grab yellow, I've avoided so far due to cost, $86, thats a couple bottles of bourbon! Lol
I think you'll really enjoy the yellow... it's a shame its so expensive, but the quality and unique nature of it are so worth it!! Hmmmm... maybe this is a new playlist for Savidge Kitchen: "Investment Bottles". 😂
The strong taste that slaps you in the face immediately when tasting the green Chartreuse is not peppercorn, but angelica root. To verify, taste a minuscule speck of angelica root when you have a chance. You'll agree. 😀

I need to get myself a bottle of Jagermeister and give that a go- it really looks amazing!!
Try the green in hot chocolate, pretty sure the recipe is on the bottle(at least it is for me,pour a shot of green chartreuse into hot chocolate).
This sounds amazing! What do you think about adding a touch of mint to that combo... maybe in the form of bitters. Or maybe just fresh 🤔
@@SavidgeKitchen bitters is always nice Even the fresh mint.
Wtf 🙀 I would have never thought of that - trying that this week
I think it's an apres-ski drink called "green chaud"

I'll give that a try!

Totally agree! They're surprisingly versatile!!
My mom used to describe green things as chartreuse and I had no idea what it was until now, I thought it was just an old person word for green. 😂
