I love this bag! I made the original size and then decided I wanted something alitle bigger. Linds suggested enlarging the patternto 120%-- Perfect size and have made two. I added mesh pockets to each side panel and a luggage strap.
My mantra is that I do not buy a pattern that you do not have a tutorial to go along with it. Your teaching style is wonderful! Yes, I was one of the 3 people that did not yet have this pattern but I do now and I can’t wait to give it a go!!
When you “ goof”, that just shows us that you’re just as human as the rest of us AND what you can do if you do do it “wrong”. That’s one thing I like about you, you tell me from start to finish that you’re not a professional and you do make mistakes.❤️❤️❤️🥰
@Jess~ Hands down, your bag tutorials are the best! You're a naturally gifted teacher, give great tips, keep it real, and you always keep in mind that your viewers are at all different skills levels on their bag making journey! I love when you use cotton woven material or even cotton lycra combined with limited vinyl pieces, because I feel like it makes EVERY bag you teach, even more approachable and achievable for those of us who are sewing on a domestic machine. PLUS, who doesn't LOVE seeing beautifully designed fabric turned into a bag?! :-) Thanks!! ~~Christy~~
I’ve seen so many of you videos and I love listening to your instruction. I hope to sew bags this year. I sew clothes, but am moving away from custom work and hope to develop my own line of products. One at a time ☺️
Just finished my first bag ever! May or may not have been crazy to start with the guardian bag, but I'm soooo proud of myself and how it turned out. I would have never been able to do it without this tutorial. Thank you Jess!!!!! Biggest hugs! I'm so very inspired by you.
I am going to make this one for me and if it comes out then I will make for my two daughters. With your happy spirit motivates me to want to make it. Also not letting little mistakes get you down shows how you are like us. Thank you.
So fun to make! I have made a whole bunch of them. I sent you a message with the version I make on Facebook. Adding a tip.... 2 layers of SF101 will help with the CL stretching.
I’m obsessed with this backpack and the colors/pattern you chose!!! Ahh! I ordered this pattern for me and I ordered the water bottle pattern to make for my daughter- 😍🙌🏼
Great job as usual. I've been wanting to do a backpack but was a bit intimidated. Thanks for your wonderful tutorials, we all get our sewjo when we watch your videos.
I love this backpack, it’s possibly the best looking backpack which is also a great looking shoulder bag and maybe even crossbody bag. Thanks so much for always showing how it looks on, because of you showing it, I have decided I need this pattern. Any chance you could do a video with removable backpack straps and an adjustable crossbody strap? Thanks so much for all your videos Jess ♥️
Waw, it is gorgeous bag pack and a great tutorial but it is high above my machine to sew, plus it is too much for my nerves, I mean my skill level ;) Maybe, I can do it… in ten more years, I know I will, keep on showing these excellent tutorials, we don’t give up on faith of improvement!!! Can you try it in cotton and a domestic sewing machine? Thanks, we love you… you are a very good teacher!
Yay! Someone finally got a brain, to hide the zipper against the back . I never could understand why they wanted your zippers to be easy access to others. Theives have easy access to your stuff. Great looking bag .
Hi Jess: another great pattern and am starting soon. Bought rip stock for the lining. Would you put WovenFuse 2 interfacing on it or leave it. It is pretty thin. Love your tutorials. Very gifted teacher.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Been thinking of how to make a bag like this! I have a question though, why does the main zipper panel have the extra lip at the bottom? Thank you!
Hello @Jess OklaRoots I'm going to give this bag a try but I'm using fabric that I have on hand which is cotton for interior and exterior. So my question is do I put Decovil Light both?
I've had this pattern for a while and I've been waiting for u to make a tutorial!! I haven't started mine yet I have a look in mind but its vinyl throughout and water proof canvas. I have a bernina 570 and idk if it will handle the curve with the thickness. I have the cutest up material and I dont want to ruin it. Have u done a complete vinyl one yet? Thought having sewing the seems? Do they have a lot of bulk with layers?
So with the light weight interfacing to the quilt cotton or CL; could I fuse all my pieces to a yard of the interfacing or do u suggest cutting the interfacing and fusing to the already cut bag pieces?
ADVICE PLEASE. Ive noticed when i cut vinyl its easy to not get straight lines. I want to invest in a Cricut Maker buts it expensive. My mom gave me her Cricut Expression and its old, plus Ive never used it. It seems like maybe it doesnt cut fabric but only card stock. Are vintage Cricuts more like old computers ( worthless ) and less like old sewing machines that get the job done just fine? Should I toss it and get a new one so I can cut fabric? Thanks for any help/advice!!!
Jess... I thought I saw you make a bag with the interior slip pockets like the Felicity tote has. I can't remember where I saw it. Please refer me to that video if it exists! Thanks!!!
Please! May you creat a video on how to sew the "Diamon in a Rough" bag patter from MuffyDuck Design? I purchased this last year and am so, overwhelmed by the instructions. I have done many bags you have showed us and I know how to follow it when I see your instructions.
hello, I would like to know what is the measurement in cm of the pattern of the main panel, since I print it, but my backpack looks smaller in size than yours.
Can you show the sewing in real time? We miss all the stuff you do when doing a difficult part. You go Man, that was TOUGH! And I go It looked easy to me.😏 Speeding up covers the struggle and I would like to see all you do to keep layers together etc. I am learning bag making is hard because materials like to be ornery. Your tutorials are far and away the best and I rely on them heavily.
Hello Jess I need info please. I have a CSTEP-2 grommet press from Metal Grommets I need to buy Rivet and Snap Dies. Do you know where I could buy them from??? Please I’m lost!!!!! What is the most used size Grommets and Rivets and Snaps used please???? Thanks so much. Love You Jess your Amazing. Janis.
Has anyone else have trouble with the zipper? In the pattern it says the finished length is 30” but mine is never 30” any suggestions on how to adjust the pattern?
I love this bag! I made the original size and then decided I wanted something alitle bigger. Linds suggested enlarging the patternto 120%-- Perfect size and have made two. I added mesh pockets to each side panel and a luggage strap.

Haha I thought the same thing, I only get patterns she does tutorial on, but also if I like the pattern
I say that now. I think the only pattern I bought that Jess hasn't made is Swoon's Vivian. :( I agree that I love the way Jess teaches.
When you “ goof”, that just shows us that you’re just as human as the rest of us AND what you can do if you do do it “wrong”. That’s one thing I like about you, you tell me from start to finish that you’re not a professional and you do make mistakes.❤️❤️❤️🥰
I've accepted that it's just part of my bag making process. I'm always going to make at least one mistake, and that's OK
I totally agree. I love her too. 🤩😍🥰❤️

I would never in a million years thought that I could make this bag, until I watched your video. Going to purchase the pattern now.
I’m always so impressed by how you make more complex patterns look possible! I’m not a backpack person, but now I want to try this. Thank you Jess!
I absolutely love your tutorials, You are so thorough which is very helpful for us newer bag makers, Thank you for this video
Thank you so much Jess! You’re so sweet 🥰
You are the beeeeeeesssssssttttt 🥰🥰
I’ve seen so many of you videos and I love listening to your instruction. I hope to sew bags this year. I sew clothes, but am moving away from custom work and hope to develop my own line of products. One at a time ☺️

Just finished my first bag ever! May or may not have been crazy to start with the guardian bag, but I'm soooo proud of myself and how it turned out. I would have never been able to do it without this tutorial. Thank you Jess!!!!! Biggest hugs! I'm so very inspired by you.
What is the final size?
Dangit... I just decided (FINALLY) on what bag I was going to try and now you have another tutorial. Ahhhhhh.... 😂🤣😂
Yay! I’m so happy that you did this tutorial. I’ve been wanting to make this bag, but felt overwhelmed. I going to give it a go.
Such cute material. You have a gift for material coordinating. :)
Currently making the Rick rolltop backpack. This one is next. Thank you for showing me how to make it!
I like that you sew it on domestic maschine! It shows that everone can sew it! Just have to try this project by myself.
I am going to make this one for me and if it comes out then I will make for my two daughters. With your happy spirit motivates me to want to make it. Also not letting little mistakes get you down shows how you are like us. Thank you.
I’m not a pink fan typically, but these fabrics are gorgeous together!! I love this!
i made this for the first time for my florida trip!!! it was such a good parks bag!!
That's awesome!! I can totally see that. It feels really comfortable too
That's one very cool bagpack!!!
So fun to make! I have made a whole bunch of them. I sent you a message with the version I make on Facebook. Adding a tip.... 2 layers of SF101 will help with the CL stretching.
Ooooo that's a great tip Heidi!! I'm going to give it a shot. Thank you!
What are the measurements for the back pack already finished?
Your amazing love your work and since of humor! Beautiful work!
I absolutely love everything about this bag. Love your fabric choices!
Such a cute backpack! Thanks for posting!
I just love how you teach !
What a clever design! I love the fabric! X
I’m obsessed with this backpack and the colors/pattern you chose!!! Ahh! I ordered this pattern for me and I ordered the water bottle pattern to make for my daughter- 😍🙌🏼
I never cared for backpacks before but I love this.
Super cute holiday bag
So glad you did this video! I've been trying to decide which backpack to make for Disney this summer. Decision made!!!
You have me hooked on cotton Lycra, I had never had any before and I love it so much!
I wish this fabric was still available. Sooooooooo beautiful.
You are so amazing Jess! 💜
I’ve been dying for this tutorial!
Great job as usual. I've been wanting to do a backpack but was a bit intimidated. Thanks for your wonderful tutorials, we all get our sewjo when we watch your videos.
Love this bag! You picked some beautiful fabrics!!!! The construction of the zipper reminds me of the H2O to Go!
Yes it's similar! It comes together so nicely
I love this - thank you for sharing, I'm totally digging it and look forward to making it!
Love the colors you used in that bag.
Thanks Paula!
Great bag and excellent job.
Would you mind doing an Oslo craft bag please? I love how you go into details in your videos, thank you for all you do❣❣
yep, this will be my next bag to make! thank you!

I love this backpack, it’s possibly the best looking backpack which is also a great looking shoulder bag and maybe even crossbody bag. Wow that's awesome!
I have a 5 year old black backpack that is identical to this. I love this style of bag.
Hiya Jess! Another great bag & tutorial!! Wondering where you like to get this hardware? I didn't hear nor see it listed! Much thanks!! Peace!
I love the Star wars fabric
Love it!!!

I love this! Learning so much from you!But I am new to sewing. Do you have a suggestion for a couple of bag patterns for beginners?
Great video. Your top is so cute. I like your new camera.
Thank you! 🤗
I love it! Man, I was stressing out for you while you were getting that zipper in!😂
Hahaha I'll take care of the stressing, it will work out :)
Have you ever made elastic pockets on the sides? Just curious how to cut the fabric for that option.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Been thinking of how to make a bag like this! I have a question though, why does the main zipper panel have the extra lip at the bottom? Thank you!
I really want to make this bag!
Hello @Jess OklaRoots I'm going to give this bag a try but I'm using fabric that I have on hand which is cotton for interior and exterior. So my question is do I put Decovil Light both?
love it
I think I’d add poppers/studs on the side pockets as a deterrent to light fingers.
I sure wish you would do a tutorial on the expedition tote by Swoon, you are the best teacher..
Great bag! Discount worked for me. Would there be a problem with 2 zipper pulls on the zipper? Thanks for another amazing video!
Idea of two zipper pulls!
That way you will have beautiful seems,no pleads ❤
How do you think it would work out using waxed canvas and ottertex?
Afternoon
Beautiful bag. Please let me know where I can purchase the threads? Thank You 😊
I've had this pattern for a while and I've been waiting for u to make a tutorial!!

P.S. Thank you, Jess!❤️
Very good thanks you
Made one for my mom!!!!!
Awww I love that!
BAHAHAHA! "You lok like a turtle" OMG. Too funny, that's exactly why I don't like backpacks. As always, great video, thank you.
Jess, I’m interested in your vinyl strap connectors. Is this an svg file that you cut with your Cricut?
#OklaRootsTuts ...are you willing to sell some of that fabric you used for this bag? I LOVE IT!!!!
Gasp! I wonder if I can use denim
Parabéns, ficou linda

Jess... I thought I saw you make a bag with the interior slip pockets like the Felicity tote has. I can't remember where I saw it. Please refer me to that video if it exists! Thanks!!!
I found it!!! It's the "Everyday Tote Bag" by Bagstock.
Do you have to use vinyl?

On those kind of attachments you need to start sewing from the middle to the end twice even if the measurements are exacts
Janis.
I have to,have this fabric for my daughter in law! I think they are out of stock. Darn!
When I look at this my inital thought is ohhh that will be easy, but as I watch it seems, (or seams,😅) to be anything but. Not a beginner bag. ?
Hi Jess it says the coupon code is invalid on Etsy.
Bom dia, como consigo o molde da mochila? Obrigada
Is this backpack 1:22:52 domestic sewing machine friendly?
what would you fuse your cotton lycra with?
Sewfuse (when it's available again) www.castinehandcrafted.com/products/sewfuse-per-yard?variant=41266627346612
Measurements for the final project??
Has anyone else have trouble with the zipper? In the pattern it says the finished length is 30” but mine is never 30” any suggestions on how to adjust the pattern?
Where is the link to the lady she gives a shoutout to?? 😢
can't get promo code to work...
Try purchasing it from the website instead of Etsy
Make sure you use the link for Linds' website (I don't believe it works on Etsy)
I’ve wanted to make this but I don’t like binding so I’m missing out. I hate binding. It NEVER comes out right for me.
You know what, this is PERFECT for you then. The binding is such a small part, not noticeable at all. You're going to be fine.
The camera is too far away and I can't see what you're doing very well, everything else is perfect. Thank you,
I have bought this pattern, however, it does not print out the size you have here. I have messaged the seller, but haven’t had a reply yet.
