What an amazing place! So well kept. I was on Find-a-Grave and the 1842 guy wasn’t on there...?? So I added him and maybe someone will put some information on there about him. George Rosenberry was just 3 years old. His old headstone is pictured on Find-a-Grave.
Such a pretty little place! The camera you're using made the scenery look so vivid. The white picket fence almost made me expect to see a little country church tied in with this place. Great job Matt. Thanks for the journey. ❤ and appreciation for all your dedication. Stay safe my friend.
What a beautiful little cemetery. Thanks for taking us along! Love your channel. I really enjoy the cemetery videos and seeing a bit of history. Sometimes before it is entirely lost.
Well kept Cemetery for an old one, even at the markers. I am very surprised. It's a nice setting too.. The Community people who care. Thanks for showing us,
Matt, you really should try NOT to walk directly on the graves! You should walk between them if at all possible. It is a treat to see a well-kept cemetery. Thanks for the video. The hole in the stone is most probably from a mount for a picture or another carved piece of stone to be mounted onto the headstone. It looks like a mount and carved an oval that would be a frame to hold a picture or something.
What a pretty little cemetery with a lot of history behind it. Might have been a part of a homestead when the 1st person was buried , Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤
What a beautiful little spot you find.. I'm still amazed for all the spots you find.. and I must say.... your voice is very pleasant!!🙏🏻 Love from far far away... Denmark😘🇩🇰....
You should visit the UK one day, my local church graveyard has headstones dating back to the late 1600s really amazing that graves of that age survive as i dont think modern headstones are made to the same high standards anymore.
Thanks Matt for sharing with me this video about the very strange damage in old 1800s grave yard it was a very interesting video about the grave yard and Matt I wait to see your next video and God Bless and thanks again my friend.
Your respectful tour of cemeteries is to be commended. I love cemeteries. The head stones tell many stories, both sad and happy. I wish you would show the names and dates on the older ones. Dates tell stories as well. GAR stands for Grand Army of the Republic. Started at the end of the Civil War for the Union Veterans. Keep up the good work.
Hi Matt, I wonder if that hole in that grave stone was used to place the persons photograph in ???. That was such a neat old graveyard, really very well kept too. Thanks for sharing. x
More than likely, yes. the fact that the back was carefully cut into a square shows there was something mounted to the back of the tombstone, which would most likely have been a photo behind a plate of glass. The photo would've faded away, and the paper dissolved, and almost anything could've cracked the glass. I imagine this cemetery, at one time, had more trees in it, to provide shade when family members came out to picnic (that was common in earlier decades, to come visit those who have gone on).
Interesting Cemetery as usual. The plastic fence was interesting. Have a great great great grandmother buried at the Rising Sun Cemetery (group), not sure if Ohio or Indiana. She left Ireland, some went to USA some came to Australia.
I'm so glad I missed a few of these somehow. I am being entertained while we weather the pandemic. This place is beautiful. Glad I missed it last June and found it now. Thank you for keeping us "entertained." You do such a great job!
Great video, glad to see this cemetery is being cared for. I checked it out on Find a Grave, but I don’t think the hole in one the marker is for a photo as he died in the 1860s when photos were pretty rare. Thanks for visiting and sharing!
Great vid. I agree with your assumption that a deer went thru that fence. Other possibility is the guy cutting the lawn on the tractor accidentally hit the throttle.
Thanks for the pleasant video Matt. I believe the headstone with the hand pointing to heaven had a hole cut in the back for a repair plug to be positioned within it. Possibly the repair has not been completed.
My smart guy. This location is being well cared for. That’s GREAT ! We care for our soldiers. Much much support I giv to u. Long time fan Sending sum CALIfornia 💚to u all out there
Cemeteries fascinate me as they tell the story of a life lived more so than when that person died. I would love to be looking over your shoulder but this is the next best thing. Wish we could read a little more of the tomb stones.
Come to Michigan and do the historic Clinton Grove Cemetery. They sometimes will give you a tour if you call ahead. They have Walinga Circus brothers and Kellogg brothers are buried there. They are one of the oldest Monument cemeteries in Michigan.
Not to mention the fact that it is just stunning! And hey, If you DO venture to Michigan, Check out Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, another breathtaking cemetery. Sorry for hijacking your post Funky Monkey. I hail from Michigan and LOVE it when people talk about historic places on things like this!
@@kathryngipson6052 lol no worries He could also do Hebrew Memorial Park In Clinton Twshp that's just a stones throw away from Clinton Grove. There is a pet cemetery near their too. I have never been to Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. I just googled it. Ill have to check it out next time I'm visiting my son.
I wonder what those tall grassy looking plants are.....??? That is a nice serene cemetery with birds singing. Awesome. Well I'll be - there was a voice that came through when you were at the back of the tree talking about the stone may be a marker. Female and I think she said "It is"
It’s possible the 1842 burial may have been relocated from somewhere else & reinterred . I have a fascination with the ones near me because I found one that musician George Formby was buried in
I don't think that was a "bullet hole" in that stone with a hand in it. I think someones photo image was in there and I just it fell out. thanks so much for the video.
A tip if you want to read a stone that is in bad shape. Carry a can of the old fashioned foaming shaving cream and a piece of cardboard. Spray the shaving cream all over the lettered area and use the straight edge of cardboard to rake it off. Any recessed area will be full of white shaving cream and readable.
That sounds messy and i can imagine a graveyard with 10 or 12 headstones covered in shaving cream lol! Its easier to do a rubbing with white paper and a black crayon, then you have a physical copy of the markings too.
@@mileshigh1321 this is true you would have a marking. I simply take a pic and then rinse it off. I would never leave shaving cream everywhere that is disrespectful.

Have you ever heard of a green burial? The body is only embalmed to the minimal state law, wrapped in shrouds and buried directly into the ground without a casket. And finally, based on religious beliefs a homemade cross or other marker is used. Is this legal? In all states? I think it’s fascinating.
Matt, I was wondering what your reason for checking out cemetaries is. I've always liked the same but cannot come up with the why part myself so your input would be great.
Great question! I think it's natural for humans to be curious about things that haven't seen or experienced. Plus it's interesting design work and a chance to visit the people that actually lived in times we can only read about now.
Sadly, and very unfortunately, the former slaves did not have the money to purchase engraved headstones for their loved ones. Consequently, these were hand crafted.
I love the fence. That is also not cheap. A group must be looking after the place.
Those plants help to keep mosquitoes away! The smaller the woodman monument the bigger the family. Beautiful adventure!
At 10:50, the "hole" was a space for a picture of the deceased.
What an amazing place! So well kept.

Hey there Matt" Thankyou so much for your videos 😊
11;00 maybe there was a picture in the hole at one point
10.45. Looks as if there may have been a photograph in an oval originally in that space.
often the care takers will collect loose stones and markers in a pile at the rear of cemeteries in this case it was near a tree
It looks like perhaps a photo or something may have been in the stone maybe?
That was a beautiful find!

My take is the care takers keep originalality , and get B+ . Keep up the great work.
Beautiful graveyards. I am from NE Ohio so I am curious where you are going in the woods.

Shaving cream could damage some of these older stones. You could use either flour or just plain old dirt instead.
@@Artist6135 how can it damage them? I would carry bottled water to rinse it off.

the 1842 grave may have been moved.
Do you ever hear voices or see spirits in your adventures?
I wouldn't doubt it, I've heard in a couple but he don't really go for that angle I don't think.
I think that is a photo hole in the headstone, missing the photo.
