@@Long_May_They_Raine okay thank you for the information because I never had this done before... Probably why my hair keeps getting thicker but not longer 🙄🤦🏿♀️
You just gained a new fan. Every word you said here was 10000% correct. I gave up on these so-called "stylists" over 12 years ago because I would either have to constantly explain that my hair wasn't damaged since I don't have a defined "hair type" or they always wanted to use some type of treatment or chemicals on me. It was so refreshing for you to explain that your healthy hair client doesn't have a specific curl type or pattern because I have never ONCE heard a stylist admit that & it was very discouraging to me; I've cut my hair off sooooo many times before realizing that this is just what I have. Literally every section of my hair does its own thing. This video felt like a big hug for me. ❤❤❤
All these stylists treat your hair as if there's something wrong with it or that it needs to be adjusted to something more "desirable". I recognize hair for what it is and allow the hair to guide me to what is suitable for it. That's what separates me from the rest of them
@@AfrikanHairGod thank you so much for your response to me & everything that you do. I love you & your bald head & your dreaded beard!! ❤️🥰 thank you so much!!!!!
The moment you said her hair has no definitive curl pattern, I SUBSCRIBED to your channel with so much joy in my heart. You just described my hair and yet every natural hair youtuber makes it sound like everyone's hair must fit perfectly into a label.
I swear you’re the truth! Not sure if you’re on Twitter but different hairstylist are condemning everyone that uses oil/grease on their head (yes they’re wash and go hairstylists) and grease was the one thing that made my natural hair thicker and keep in moisture
I just got dragged on Twitter by thousands of people because their dumb asses didn't know what damaged hair looked like. A hairstylist did a whole angry rant on me and everything. Just finished a live stream this past week on it. So no I don't do Twitter and I'm probably not gonna bother with tik tok either. Their attention span on those apps are lacking
@@AfrikanHairGod Twitter is not for people who have true knowledge on hair. I have tried to explain the science behind the bullshit with no oils/butters and why curl definition is not the definitive characteristic for healthy hair (for everyone). The stupidity and anger these “quack” hairstylists have. I realize they use anger and berating because there is no sense behind what they are saying. No more arguing with them for me!
I've always respected how thorough and knowledgeable you are about natural hair. It's so rare these days with so much focus on weaves, etc. Thank you for all you do. Love your videos, Narada! You've really helped me with maintenance and growth of my natural hair.
I wish more stylists would do natural hair without the need to blow dry. "I do blow dry on low heat or you can blow dry your hair before you arrive." WTH! Very disheartening.
If this ain’t the 🎤 drop moment you’ve been needing to deliver the haters. Then I don’t know. I’ve never seen another stylist online have a client with hair that healthy after having a trim 6-7 months ago! Which other stylist would be brave enough to show their clients’s ends up close like this. Much respect to you ❤
Whew now I see how damaged my bleached/colored natural hair truly is. Thank you for these videos, unfortunately I’m going to have to resort to a pixie cut 😭 my hair is still tangled and split to the root even with tons of conditioner and water running through it. This year is the year I finally get serious about having healthy natural hair. Pray for me 😂
When my mom took care of my hair growing up, I only needed trims once maybe twice per year. And ever since I stopped using the natural hair products and went back to cheapo Suave shampoo and conditioner my scalp and hair has been so much healthier.
Narada, thank you. We've turned into product junkies and stylist junkies. Our mamas and grandmas knew what they doing. Water and hair grease has been the truth since babies and pacifiers.
I went to a DevaCurl salon in CA many years ago and walked out with my hair looking like a dry, crunchy mess! I’ve been natural since 2010 and have had 4-5 big chops after trying different things with my hair. I became a product junky and wanted to try every new product that hit the market. I had microlocs installed 14 months ago, now my hair is down to my shoulders and I’m about to do another big chop because my hair is breaking off and I’m tired of paying $150+ for a retie every 6 weeks and the loctician doesn’t even wash your hair. After watching this video, I will go back to my grease and water!
I stopped getting curly cuts because it straight up destroyed my hair every time. I would end up doing a big chop because the splits just got so bad my hair was trash. Now I cut it in a blown out state so I make sure most of my ends get a proper trim twice a year.
Thank you for teaching the truth. Some of the stylist out here are ripping our hair out and then chopping off all the length, talking bout we haven't been maintaining our hair right at home.
Yes this is sooo true! All they want to do is chop off your hair every 2 to 3 weeks or every time you see them after you have worked so hard to maintain and grow it. Then they want to charge you an additional amount to "trim" it.
So happy you decided to continue to do natural hair after going through so much with your hand eczema issues. People out here don't understand how deep and true your love for (healthy) natural hair is. You're so generous with sharing your experience and knowledge and we truly appreciate it. Lastly, please continue to educate us on how to properly take care of our hair, so that we start to have those conversations, to raise the bar and the expectation that honestly, we deserve. You have said nothing but FACTS!!!! BRAVO!!!! Thank you! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
thank you for bringing up the difference between thinning and split ends, i see so many confusing the two/using one to describe another 😅. but overall, great video the frustration is understood because the sh*t you called out is now the norm within the haircare community/stylists nowadays 🤦🏿
My hair looks like the 1st woman's hair 🫣. I'm still searching for a true natural hair stylist within a reasonable distance 😮💨. This video is so bomb ❤
Why are you like this.....I LOVE IT! I've been watching you for YEARS and one day you said something about damage, split, and uneven hair and it stuck with me! I recently combed out my locs and came right back to your page!
Oh I saw split ends before you even said…. People need to be more concerned with HEALTHY Length vs JUST Length. Dead ends stop your hair from truly retaining length/growth.
What you've said is the same things I've heard from a few stylists my whole life. The client complaints are the same as those of my mom, aunts, and grandma's and great aunts. Wish I lived near your salon. Stay true to your craft and clients.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Of course you live in Atlanta. Everything you spoke was right on. I long ago stopped going to hair salons for all of the reasons you noted. The last time I let someone touch my very fine, very dense (most stylist don't even know what that means) I ended up w/ a yeast infection and lost 1/3 of my 4cz 17 inches of hair. I had to do a BIG CHOP and the worst area of hair lost took 1.5 years to begin to grow back & is still shorter than the rest of my hair. I was hoping you were in LA - I'd be their next month. Oh well, I'll keep doing my own hair and watch it thrive.
Wow! I learnt so much from this video!! My hair is long and damaged 😢 I'm at the salon often, doing treatments, asking for trims .... Lord so much money wasted! We need you in the UAE 🎉
I had a hairstylist ban me from their salon cause I modified my ‘Brazilian Blow Out’ to a Silk Press/Deep Conditioning because I discovered I had scalp psoriasis and I didn’t think it was a healthy option. They just want your money they don’t care about hair health.
I'm dealing with this now. My ends never used to be this thin, nor my hair so weak in general. I see the tapering you speak of in my hair. I never used to have so many split ends. I thought it was just the stylists who were cutting corners in how they cut my hair, but apparently it could be my hair products too. I have just a little bit of hair milk from Mielle and some leave-in and styling cream from Melanin Haircare to phase out, but will grab me some Sulphur 8 anyway. It must be that we (or I) have introduced too much moisture into our hair.
I noticed my crown has seen havoc from not deep conditioning/using leave in with the No oils/No butter method. I’m back to doing what made sense. Also. I use to trim my own hair when wet in sections - a dusting towards my ends when they felt rough. Using shears for hair. I’ve stopped that mess - as I didn’t see growth doing this every 3months - I received a hair cut my a stylist in December 2022 via a blow out . My goal is to blow out my own hair (with my invested Revair) and return for another trim from my stylist. Because I don’t have a decent natural hair stylist in my area. Thank you for your videos - Speak!
Thank you, my mom only used water and Vaseline on my natural curly hair as a kid and it grew, very healthy. It was only when I got older I used all those different products that damaged my hair, or going to stylist that my hair was burned out after 2 weeks of salon care, I have been afraid to go back thinking, the heat will burn my hair out again. Now I'm trying to get my natural curly hair to get back right, it can be very heart broken. Thanks for sharing, I wish you were here in Houston area.❤
I literally been saying for so long that my hair does better with grease and water. That's all we needed back back back in the day before all these trends started and our hair was healthy❤ edit: and let me add I used to watch you years ago but got trapped into all these hair growth trends and guess what. My hair wouldn't grow after that. But I'm gone back to the basics...thanks ❤
You are right bro once a year is the most to trim your hair if you take care of it. Most stylists are scissor happy. Im tired of paying people for messing up and chopping off my hair so I stopped going 12 years ago and ain’t looked back. My hair has been the longest and thickest it’s ever been in my life with my own regimen and trust I keep it simple.
Great video! It's nice to see that the ole school way of doing things proves that it works and keeps our hair healthy! What Afrikan Hair God is doing, is how my grandma maintained our hair the natural way! My Dad used a famous grease and water and his hair was shiny and healthy! Thanks for the sharing!
I first seen you on a reel, and i liked you instantaneously. I said to my fiance i want hime to do my hair because your so knowledgeable and your work speaks for itself friend.
Your message is the truth, when you go to most stylists with questions & concerns, they usually cop an attitude. That's why I stopped going to these salons, it's their arrogance, yet I'm the one paying them money. I use grease & water (no hair straightening at all, no fake hair or wigs) & trim my own hair. Its managed to grow healthy long without their "professional" help.
I've been a cosmetologist for 24 years, and u are so right. I do my own hair because I am not going to let nobody mess my hair up, period. In my opinion, these natural hair products are not good. I say stick to the basics because a lot of those products to me also cause split ends.
I’m not a stylist but this is informative for me. Keep doing you dude. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 It took me two yrs to find someone to properly take care my hair here due to many of said things in this. Yes it’s a problem.
Only problem I'm having is that I want to take my child to a stylist, cause it's a lot for me to take the time to do my daughter's hair right as a non professional. This is a grease and water, minimal heat household. BUT I DON'T TRUST JUST ANYBODY to touch her hair without breaking it, frying it, chopping it...
So glad I came across you calling out someone I had recently been put on to who would have me thinking that the way I have grown and maintained my 9 year old’s hair that is more than mid-way down her back is wrong. My knowledgeable hairstylist recently shut down her shoo abruptly. And I have been looking for a resource to help me maintain the health of my hair that she maintained with silk presses (late fall/winter) and faux locs (spring/summer/early fall every 6 weeks). Glad to have you as a resource while I have to be on my own until I find someone else equally knowledgeable who is actually into the care of the hair.
I must say I’ve learned so much from your videos over the years! I just recently gave myself a hair cut to remove heat damage and I’m never going back to using heat again. Keeping it simple works best for my hair.
Wow I’ve never seen hair like this. I’ve started listening to your advice and the improvement in managing my hair has been amazing . Now I see what healthy hair looks like and how damaged my hair actually is. I’m going to do trims often to get rid of the damage because I’m too attached to my length to big chop😂. Hopefully one day I can have a full head of healthy hair.
Can you clone yourself and put one in every city? I get so frustrated of every black stylist solution being silk blowouts or perms. I just end up braiding or putting a kids relaxer in my hair because I don't know how to take care of my hair. I live near Charlotte which is a big city. You would think you could find a good stylist here. I'm sure there are others like me that would be natural if we had someone like you.
Thank you, Narada! It’s feels so challenging finding a stylist who will execute so much care and a realistic approach as you do. And thank you for reinforcing the idea of simplicity. I’m definitely going back to that. What is your opinion on using castor oil as a sealant? I was thinking about alternating between grease and JBCO.
Thank you for the very slow demo. How about thinning, how do you determine thinning from damaged hair? And how do you repair thinning and how do you repair damaged hair?
Absolutely lovedddddd that rant on the lower half of the video. No more accepting bullshit 💯 I don't even go to hairstylists anymore sadly. Feel like my hair breaks off when I do go
You are so right. I've been struggling to find a stylist to keep my hair healthy. I did the big chop in 2020. My hair had a really nice curl pattern. I was just doing the basics and my hair was growing nicely. In 2022 I decided I wanted a 'professional' to do my hair because I couldn't get my rinses right. One stylist put in black hair dye and my hair had a hue of green after a couple of weeks. She was great with detoxing my scalp though. The second stylist was awesome at the detoxing and the color. She was perfect except the last time when my hair was orange. I went to a 3rd stylist and my hair was orange and I believe she caused heat damage. This year I decided to big chop again. There was just too much heat damage. So far my hair feels like it did in 2020. I still want to go to a stylist to help me keep my hair and scalp healthy since I take blood pressure meds. I like the olaplex line, but not sure if I should be using it since I'm not a professional. I said all that to say that I wish I could visit your shop. I need someone to care for my hair and not want to put heat in it so much and to just do the basics. My biggest problem is knowing if I have split ends and getting rid of them if I do have them. Thanks for this video.
Yesss I be telling people that they need to go back old school like our parents did..I'm from the 80s back when I was lil all I seen was hair grease condition and Marcel irons and oil sheen..and Queen Helen hair gel..all these styles don't last but a week..now..I'm on the same type of time you on.. however I still use castor I mix it with my blue magic..
I wonder if the dryness/ frayed ends also stems from too strong shampoos? AG Balance is closer to a clarifying shampoo than a moisturizing shampoo & for most people is not necessary to use on a weekly basis as the hair isn’t that dirty. This leads to dryness/brittleness. Most need to use a moisture or hydrating shampoo as the primary weekly cleanser. @africanhairgod What are your thoughts?
This is what I’m thinking too about shampooing and I’m trying to change in my own hair because some of these shampoos recommended are recommended to be used every 7 to 10 days and I’ve been using some of them multiple times a week. I think I’ve been over cleansing personally.
I would imagine that y'all wouldn't really need anything clarifying as y'all are washing your hair every week and only washing off water soluble gels. I really don't even see the need for clarifiers at all

I’m beyond grateful I’ve found your channel and expertise, it’s helped me simplify my routine, break my product junkie streak, and feel more comfortable with my hair’s natural texture. I’m beyond excited to book with you before I go back to school. Thanks for all you do for this community, Narada. ☺️

So I should get damaged ends clipped first in order for hair to start growing and getting healthy ?
@@sharonwallace8015 your hair is going to grow regardless, but if you want to retain your length, you have to get your damage cut off and properly maintain your ends
This video was much needed!!! This is very educational! Narada can talk sh** cuz he knows his sh**! Period! His clients' hair speaks for itself!❤
The moment you said her hair has no definitive curl pattern, I SUBSCRIBED to your channel with so much joy in my heart.
You just described my hair and yet every natural hair youtuber makes it sound like everyone's hair must fit perfectly into a label.
Exactly, my hair does not conform to any curl patter once dry, it be a straight up fro and I always thought there was something wrong with my hair
That hair grease never let most people down.
I appreciate that!
Love what you’re doing. I need to get back to protective styling my hair like this again, lasts for weeks and i would get so many compliments.
Go for it!
I wish more stylists would do natural hair without the need to blow dry. "I do blow dry on low heat or you can blow dry your hair before you arrive." WTH! Very disheartening.
Thank you for supporting and becoming a channel member 😇🙏❤️
If this ain’t the 🎤 drop moment you’ve been needing to deliver the haters. Then I don’t know. I’ve never seen another stylist online have a client with hair that healthy after having a trim 6-7 months ago! Which other stylist would be brave enough to show their clients’s ends up close like this. Much respect to you ❤
Yassssss!!!
Pray for me 😂
I love how textured curly hair glitters under the light. It’s so beautiful.
That's known as sheen! 😊
I’m glad you’re calling them out because it’s getting way outta hand! #teamshampoo&grease
What kind of grease do you use?
@@jenniferwright4914 I grew up using Blue Magic bergamot grease
Aww darn wish you keep your locs and she should wash your hair
“He’S jUsT tEaSiNg ThE hAiR!!!” Took me tf out 😂
I stopped getting curly cuts because it straight up destroyed my hair every time.
I successfully cornrowed my daughter’s hair for summer camp after watching so many of your salon videos. Thank you! ❤❤
That is awesome!
My hair is like hers. I wish more hair stylists were like him.
Me too. 😔
So happy you decided to continue to do natural hair after going through so much with your hand eczema issues. People out here don't understand how deep and true your love for (healthy) natural hair is. You're so generous with sharing your experience and knowledge and we truly appreciate it. Thank you also to all your clients who agree to be recorded. You all have made a difference in our lives. Knowledge is power and power leads to change. To the naysayers and jealous, keep coming with your negativity lol😂. You are only making us stronger cause darkness can never hide light. Thank you for advocating for us Narada but it is also time for us to speak out for ourselves and make that change happen. ❤❤❤
You do great work and you are an awesome educator! Thank you.
I can relate to the no define curl pattern/ my hair is the Same omg I’ve never heard a professional mentioned that ever. It’s so refreshing to know I’m not alone
I wish that you were in LA, so you could twist my natural hair!! Your twists always look juicy and healthy!!!
Narada, I appreciate your expertise in your craft. I understand your frustrations, it's how a lot of us feel when we can't find a knowledgeable/passionate stylist we trust to do our natural hair. I'm going back to old school hair grease and water. Narada, please continue to speak out for those of us who need you. Lastly, please continue to educate us on how to properly take care of our hair, so that we start to have those conversations, to raise the bar and the expectation that honestly, we deserve. You have said nothing but FACTS!!!! BRAVO!!!! Thank you!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Truth❤
We got a lesson on hair, a rant and a salon shop visuals🤣❤️
I will have to rethink my entire hair routine.
Yessss! ❤ I’m loving the detailed explanation on healthly vs unhealthy curls
Go OFF!!! 🗣️🗣️🗣️ A lot of these stylists are for how cute your hair looks vs how healthy it is!!
This was really helpful. Especially to see a close up of the ends on unstretched hair.
thank you for bringing up the difference between thinning and split ends, i see so many confusing the two/using one to describe another 😅. but overall, great video the frustration is understood because the sh*t you called out is now the norm within the haircare community/stylists nowadays 🤦🏿
This is why I came back to you after the years with my locs, Narada. It's your intentions for your clients. Thank you.
I've learned more about natural haircare by watching your videos in 40+ years...thank you
Man, I love this guy he is so real and speaks the truth
I feel your frustration rada, thank you for continuing to educate us and helping to improve the quality of life for black people ❤
My hair looks like the 1st woman's hair 🫣. I'm still searching for a true natural hair stylist within a reasonable distance 😮💨. This video is so bomb ❤
I wish you luck on your healthy hair journey
@@jessicavirgo9842 me too 😢
Why are you like this.....I LOVE IT! I've been watching you for YEARS and one day you said something about damage, split, and uneven hair and it stuck with me! I recently combed out my locs and came right back to your page!
Soooooooo informative! I just kept shaking my head in agreement because it made sense! No gimmicks or extra fluff, just simple education. Thank you ❤
Oh I saw split ends before you even said…. People need to be more concerned with HEALTHY Length vs JUST Length. Dead ends stop your hair from truly retaining length/growth.
The visual comparison was very helpful - thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thanks for the great video. I'm glad you said that it's ok to use regular hair grease & water.
Love it.
What you've said is the same things I've heard from a few stylists my whole life. The client complaints are the same as those of my mom, aunts, and grandma's and great aunts. Wish I lived near your salon. Stay true to your craft and clients.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
New subscriber…you put love into what you do, I can tell you CARE. We need more like you in the natural hair care professions.
Thank you so much!!
New subbie ❤ i love that you stand up for people who have had bad experiences with unprofessional hairstylists
He said "I talk shit because I can back it up." 🔥 I know that's right!!! Ya gotta love him n certainly respect him as he does KNOW HIS STUFF.
Thank you for the work and the dedication that you have! I am so appreciative of you.
I appreciate that!😇🙏😊
Thank you for educating us. I was blind but now I see!
I THANK GOD FOR YOU SIR!!! I WILL BE IN YOUR CHAIR ONE DAY, I'M CLAIMING THAT RIGHT NOW! AMEN!
I’ve stopped that mess - as I didn’t see growth doing this every 3months -
I received a hair cut my a stylist in December 2022 via a blow out .
My goal is to blow out my own hair (with my invested Revair) and return for another trim from my stylist. Because I don’t have a decent natural hair stylist in my area.
Thank you for your videos - Speak!
I have been following you for years !!! You have never been wrong.
Thank you! I have been wrong before i just ask careful about what i speak on and careful to not spread misinformation.
That's all we needed back back back in the day before all these trends started and our hair was healthy❤
edit: and let me add I used to watch you years ago but got trapped into all these hair growth trends and guess what. My hair wouldn't grow after that. But I'm gone back to the basics...thanks ❤
Receipts!! I love it!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I love my hair grease! A little goes a long way. ✨🫶🏽
14:45 I greatly appreciate your bravery in "calling them out to make them accountable". 👏👏👏
It took me two yrs to find someone to properly take care my hair here due to many of said things in this. Yes it’s a problem.
this is so helpful to actually see on natural hair in its natural state.
I've used it before using grease. It works great but grease just has more laating power than jbco
Feel like my hair breaks off when I do go
I thought of you today Narada, I was in a local shop and saw the Nature’s Blessings hair grease ❤️
Wish we had someone like this in the UK
You got me cracking up. Water and muh fuggin hair grease! 😂😂😂😂. I’m going Back to basics!
How does one avoid split ends? What styles, tools, and products do you recommend to promote healthy hair growth and moisture retention?
This video should have definitely put the ones to shame that didnt believe in that method 💯
@africanhairgod What are your thoughts?
i cant speak for the shampoo for the conditoner always made my hair hard? I wonder if thats the reason too @ Narada
I really don't even see the need for clarifiers at all
Her hair is parting so easily!!!! Your work is so beneficial to the culture and black self esteem. I wish my hair would. I’m just trying to stop and keep it from falling out
I loveeeee this video I’ve been watching there is no wrong IN what you’re saying!!! I’m so happy to see videos on these particular textures/curl patterns. LOVEEEEEEE YOUR KNOWLEDGE YES YES YES
Outstanding 👏👏👏. Thank you so much for sharing 🥰
20:42 Thats a big problem because im working on a way to travel to GA to get my hair done cause im tired of arguing with foreigners in MA. I wish I could corn roll cause Ill braid my own damn hair. Im really about to take a braiding class.
AHG, my hair is "flyaway" r broken alllll the way up the shaft. When I flat ironed it was soooo thin. I was sick. I'm going to CUT it all off and start again. How can I regrow it healthy like your 2nd client. I have texture like both clients. I hope you answer.
Yep I’m about to make an appointment. Narada I’m coming.
You truly are a stylist that understands that a woman's hair is her glory .
I can really see the difference. I also realize why my kids hate getting their hair combed. Although not damaged , I can see that their hair is dry compared to both heads of hair here. I will scope out more videos on your channel but I would love help with how to combat dryness.
That rant just earned you a subscriber 😂 What shampoo and hair grease combo did you use for her dermatitis??
Nizoral and design essential therapeutics hair grease
No matter how healthy hair is any amount of breakage or split ends will always be there. Hair breaks period. I have healthy natural hair down my back
