In this video we discover that Fan-Made Opposing Force 2 Is Kinda Good
Half-Life: Through The City is a fan-made sequel to Half-Life: Opposing Force. 20 years after the Black Mesa incident G-man awakes Adrian Shephard and sends him into City 17 during the first days of the Uprising. Throughout his journey Shephard is going to encounter a group of rebels that will aid him in completing his mission, furthermore he will even see the last living Race-X entity on earth.

That's actually amazing. It's ways cool to see VAs from official productions working with fan projects. Reminds me of how my college's film class was able to get Mark Meer (male Shep VA) to be in their Mass Effect short film.

It’s awesome how many well known and experienced actors are involved with this project, I loved hearing Kleiner and Collette returning, the G-Man impersonator was almost perfect, the suit voice is really unique and well done, and hearing Corey Cruise as a random citizen was a really pleasant surprise. I also really liked that the citizens were actually shocked and pointed out how weird it is for Shepard to be running around the city.
Yeah when I played this I was fucking shocked to hear Corey being, like, a regular person.
Glad someone else noticed hearing Corey was dope.
Yeah the acting is kinda sick so far, and hearing Corey as anyone but a variant of the Postal Dude is kinda shocking. Legit excited to see more of this.
It needs better reactions to be honest, more "What's this armor?" and "I thought they all died"
Not sure I'd call the suit voice unique necessarily.
It's kind of just the PCV voice from Prospekt with the HL: Alyx combine voice filter over it.
Everything else in this mod seems pretty stellar so far though.

I love how every citizen who talks to Adrian is immediately in fear, afraid, scared for their life, and terrified all at the same time
(Context: In Deadwater Gaming's Leon's Half Life 3 video, during the finale one of the voices on the radio says something along the lines of "Everyone in the arctic are now afraid and living in fear", the joke being that the line is completely redundant, unnecessary and unneeded.)

Well, there are hunting shotguns, riot shotguns, etc
A combat shotgun is meant to work better in an assault where you will be expecting the enemy to be armed as well. Since you have several rounds ready to fire in case your shot fails to overcome body armor or there are multiple targets.

I'm pretty sure the night vision goggles are just a green flashlight with a wider cone of light.
Also, if Mahogany was in the military, he would blind himself by using night vision in broad daylight.
I'm pretty sure that's just how NV goggles work; they have a bright infrared light and an infrared sensor to pick up said light.

@@ba-ey1hu I own a actual pair of nvgs and wearing them in daylight can damage the goggles and literally burn the goggles sensors out making them completely useless permanently. Otherwise it looks completely white.
The pipewrench was a bit of a gamble but they needed the extra resolution.

While I love this mod it's so weird that nearly every fan mod never tries to come up with anything original for the G-Man to say, they always latch onto his "Time", "Rise and shine", "In the flesh" or "This is where I get off" lines rather than make something that sounds like he'd say.
Raising the Bar Redux is fine in some aspects, this gets a little corny and HTDF was naturally the worst offender. Love that they got the guy who does all the Gman memes to voice him though!
From what I remember, RTBR Gman dialogue was based on some original concept of the intro where he was supposed to show you The Seven Hour war, all they did is cut few lines or re-write them a bit but most of it is what Marc Laidlaw written back when HL2 was in development, same story is with their Kleiner's lab sequence which they just re-voiced lines from beta
in opposing force, he actually does reuse some lines from half-life, so maybe it's inspired by that?

I'll be honest I think Adrian sounds like John Saint John like how all HECU in OP4 are voiced by him, just like how barney and security guards are Micheal Shapiro.

It is pretty cool to see how half life 2 modding has come so far, since this mod doesn't feel overly polished nor does it have any sort of ultra hd 4k graphics or whatever, instead it has sort of a vibe as if it is trying to blend in with the official game to make it seem like it came out in 2004 or that it's an actual sequel

This mod has quite a bit of promise. Love the tweaks they’ve given the HL2 weapons, and that Deagle looks super satisfying to use, love the more overtly electronic music, as opposed to Half Life’s more industrial electronic rock sound.
I will say, JBB does a great G-Man impression, but I associate him with SFM humour so much that his VA is a tad hard to take seriously, and the lines themselves are a little on the nose in referencing other G-Man lines.

That was a really damn good G-Man impersonator. Also to be fair in Opposing Force the Desert Eagle used the same ammo as the revolver.
It's not as popular as the .50 Cal but there was a version of the Desert Eagle made chambered in .357 Magnum IRL.

I don't know why but it feels kinda weird that none of the citizens notice the fact that he's wearing a U.S military uniform, with a PCV a top-of-the-line combat vest before the black mesa incident, and has a standard issue military gas mask, he likely has flag patches stitched onto his uniform too.

Mod looks really REALLY good so far!
Like you said: some things are kind of buggy and there's a few things that need to be ironed out, but overall, the mod looks great!
I particularly like the voice acting, like with Gman, the civilians (which granted don't sound like the original civilian voice, but that's completely fine. They don't sound like some cringe guy w/ a $2 CSGO mic), and the PCV. The deep voice of the PCV sounds really REALLY good and gives that stark military feeling. I also like that it announces the pickup of some firearms. This is handy in a combat situation, as it presumably analyzes the gun picked up so you immediately know what it is, how it operates, and what it takes. It's also, gameplay wise, gives a sense of "Oh yeah, now it's REALLY time to fk stuff up!" a good example is at 23:02 when you pick up the shotgun.
Anyways, I'm kind of going on a tangent. Love the mod and your playthrough of it!

Night vision could use some work, it seems to be a pseudo-flashlight that casts shadows. Night vision doesn’t cast shadows in real life.
Man, this takes me back. A lot of good mods for hl2. Very creative fanbase. Still remember 2004 to 2008, realllly got lost. Mainly original gmod.
I think the best produced map/short campaign i've seen was some haunted house thing with a ghost story and all. Forgot the name.

My predictions: Shepherd will be the only one to defy the G-Man somehow, just somehow. He's stronger, more trained, and has more experience than any combine soldier on earth, so just imagine what he'll be able to do in this universe. Can't wait to see!
But Shephard only got like few days of combat experience back in Black Mesa while Combine soldier have fought XEN creatures, op vortigaunts and rebels on earth for like 20 years. Not to mention the Combine soldiers are (suppose to be) some sort of cyborg transformed by a super advanced alien race. But yeah Valve never really make Combine feels like a threat

I'd like to see Opposing Force 2 to be about Shephard taking a lead role in the Uprising, leading trooping or organizing defenses and attacks on the Combine.
Where Freeman is the figurehead and rallying point for human moral, a military man like Adrian Shephard, an elite specials forces at that, with training in unorthodox warfare could be critical in the actual effectiveness at fighting back.
I hope that if Valve is working on Half Life 3 and continue the story, that Adrian will make a comeback and either team up or against Gordon. Maybe G-Man will have him hired to kill Freeman

The moment I heard citizen speak at 6:10 I INSTANTLY recognised Postal Dude's voice. A paused the video, looked that up and sure enough - its Corey Cruise - the voice of Postal 3, Postal Redux as well as Postal 4.
Opposing force is pretty good when it first came out, same for the other version which I don't remember what's it called.

I think in the game design, modders tend to forget enemy/item placement, they just placed them in the most convenient spot for players.
I felt like that occurs a lot, people tends to throw medpack, ammo box every where they wants, not instead organized in a shield or placed in where the combines/Resistances usually fought at.
Anyone who ever worked with others over radio know the struggle of waiting for someone the STFU with their monologue. So long as they are talking, you can't send your traffic. Codes were invented to make sit reps short and easy to communicate. Police Officers and Service Members learn to speak in standard codes or acronyms to the point where it's second nature.
A fan-made Opposing Forces 2 *and* Entropy Zero 2 back to back!? It is a good time for the Half Life modding community.

At first I thought, "Wow, that citizen sounds remarkably like the postal dude." Turns out, his voice actor is Corey Cruise, who is the same voice actor for Postal 3 and Brain Damaged. How do they get these people?
I've had an idea for an opposing force sequel that would have Shepherd placed into a Combine soldier factory, but have his programming and memory replacement messed up in order to follow the mission Gman has for him. This concept would take place in a ravaged and alien infested North America with a lot of inspiration from the HL2 cut content.
Just an fyi, for source games the command you want to speed things up is "host_timescale [number]"
You have to type the number out as 0.0 (0 being an example number here) to my knowledge.
