Im so sad abt the alternate team :( Thank you for making this!! I've been watching Spiff's GTFO videos and I've been really confused about the lore, and your explanation is so clear! much love ❤
Mad respect to people like you Scaler to brain and compile these complex and extremely detailed lore for lazy people like me who is interested in the lore but doesn't have the willpower to dig too deep into it 👍 Nonetheless, thanks for this video, you are awesome!
Been around since rundown 2. Play very sporadically. But, DAMN! i love coming to Professor Scaler's lore vids. Your OG lore video got me back into the game after i had stopped playing for a while. Excited to see what comes next.
I still have a few questions. Why did both teams dimension merged?? If good Shafer was there, does that mean the aliens were there too? What if they had restored the cooling system, would the aliens have erraticated the virus? The new world they got to, there is also a dimension teleportor there, does that mean humans created that in this dimension? If so, where are they? This games truly screams for a sequel. They have so much awesome lore. I truly hope the developers make a sequel to this. Could make a sequel where the aliens manage to stop the nuclear meltdown.

E2 finishes before E1 with the Original-team escaping then E1 ends with the deaths of the Alt-team. Alt-team's progression: Original-team's progression: A1 A2 B1 B3 B2 B4 C1 C2 D1 D2 E1 E2
Thank you for the lore summary and compilations! Been waiting for a while xD Perhaps a new jargon shall be sounded, something like “When guide on 100% Achievement?” Just kidding, or maybee....
Can anyone answer how we were supposed to know the original GTFO Schaefer. Im a recent GTFO player and have only been through OGR7 before all the missions became Alt. But with the shift into the alt missions and timeline. I never got to really realize what the duality of Schaefer which I feel is such an important piece to the story
I’ve been thinking for a while, have you compile what each of the rundown sequence purposes? Maybe that will be a new “Rundown Lore” videos xD. Just like how R8E1 purpose is giving all the necessary requirement items for the original squad on rundown R8E2, and how R8E2 purposes is to guide alternate squad to give their necessity and escape using those items.
I honestly do like how ridiculous and complex the story is in GTFO. It reminds me a lot of the Dark Souls story in that it is actually pretty deep, just not very explicit, you have to look for it. And I like that. If only my friend group hadn't stopped playing around rundown 2 (alt) and make me go solo from there.. seriously [bot]Hackett just pick up and distribute the FUCKING AMMO!!
Sorry for the wall of text, I just have so many questions and issues with GTFO's lore sadly. Honestly glad to finally have this lore video, I went through all the lore logs to fully understand the story, at least the alt logs and it took me over 7 hours to read it all and my brain was so fried I couldn't keep holding information. So many sub plots that have nothing to do with the story and so many vague answers that it was just terrible to try and understand. Thanks to this video however I now understand much more then I originally thought. One piece of lore sub plot that I found the most interesting was the lore about the team dispatched to garganta to try and find a patient zero to find a cure and when they arrived they said they found the main entrance shaft and heard mechanical noises from the hole like a pully system and after a while heard it start up again, we never had a log from them after they went down into the shaft if they ever did but one suggests they may have but died before making another report. This DOES however suggest that our story starts before this team arrives meaning the world outside was still sort of there, they mentioned cubas government helping them reach the site so some people were still alive outside while we were being sent on missions. The questions tho that I still have is why were the collectors collecting these samples? Trying to make a cure and somehow accidentally colliding with earth while teleporting? If they crashed 65 million years ago did they live dormant in the crash till humanity was able to thrive and help? If they did crash land into earth then they are the cause of allowing humanity to thrive and if so how did these other dimensions have humans in it too unless there were multiple collectors of either different teams or different dimensions and they messed up the same way as each other? which I guess is possible. If the warden program is alien then why did those who noticed it told others to ignore it because it was functioning as normal despite it clearly not since the warden was foreign unless the warden controlled them to say to ignore it somehow? If in the lore logs it is said that DR. Durants dimension he was in moved significantly faster then the one we were in how was he still alive when we finally arrived and not died long ago? Could the team that made it be from ANOTHER dimension one that moves even faster then durants? Also why did the collectors need the humans to look into the artifacts if they understood them enough to jump dimensions unless the collectors are not from another dimension? Evidence suggests they are from another dimension so like in the 65million years they somehow couldn't just warp to another dimension, one were they wouldn't be stuck inside a planet? Considering they somehow survived that long? Idk, so many questions and no answers just feels like a ton of plot holes, I know you said they wanted more story for the game but I feel all of this was just WAAAAY to blown out of proportion. IMO I wish they didn't do multiverse/dimension travel and just went with we were clones and made more use of the rise project and we were just trying to find a planet that could sustain life and move humanity to said planet to survive with the help of the aliens but I guess that would of been too simple lol.
Help me up with one subplot, since you've read the wiki. In the first missions of R8 there is an audio log of a woman, crying over a miscarriage and then presumably physically taking the fetus out. It's really disturbing and she also mentions her husband's name is John. Do you know what this is about and is it connected to Schaeffer? It was just so disturbing it lives in my head and I can't place it what to do with it.
@@Pdasniper I think there is another audio log with her in it else were, were she calls him schaeffer while she's locked in a room while he is banging on the door IIRC. But yes it is supposed to be john schaeffer and if it's not then there must be more then one john on the work force but if they didn't want people to think it was schaeffer they wouldn't have named him john or had her say another name. As for the reasoning behind it, other then telling the players john was supposed to be a father idk but assumptions made that his wife or partner who got pregnant ended up becoming infected or the baby in her womb did and she started to go crazy as some other audio files suggests people go insane while they are turning/infected. She could of just been having a mental breakdown becuase she seemed to flip between calling out to john for help to "Not wanting to carry that bastards child" and then possibly killing it herself before pulling it out on her own somehow, essentially performing an abortion on herself, it is unknown if this person was a doctor or not but considering she was in the complex with john at the time she must of had an education level worth hiring for some reason. Sadly tho the GTFO story was supposed to be longer but due to a few reasons they decided to wrap it up early leaving a lot of the subplots unfinished and I think this must of been one of them left unfinished, I think state of truth was the only subplot that had a proper ending but other then that I can't recall others that did. It would be neat if they used that website the have for secret lore logs to be found to complete all the unfinished sub plots since all the sub plots are terminal based so they could just make a few audio files or at the very least just write out some files and say the audio is corrupted so we can have an official ending to the subplots to read if anything.
I got curious about this particular subplot too and had done some research in the logs, as it was a long time ago I can be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain she's the psychologist that we see in some logs. I remember trying to figure if it was her or another woman that I don't remember right now, I'll need to double check to deepen this comment. Going to your original comment, from what I understood from the video, the collectors must not be present physically on Earth. We can see that they were collecting samples of the virus, and as it's highly infectious, they could've made the Warden as the AI controlling things, that can also explain why it needed humans to develop the whole complex and research teams to make the dimension thingy as it couldn't build things, just operate what it had available. I wouldn't say this is certainly what happened as I haven't read most of the logs, but it's what I figured watching the video. Ps: Remembered something just now, there are a few logs related to when Bishop got back on the Alt dimension if I'm not mistaken, there's that line that was like: the DNA was the same but it isn't his things (helmet or something like that), probably hitting that the original Bishop has gotten into the Alt dimension. (Gotta go through those logs again 😓 )
felt bad for the Alt team, we worked together for freedom 🦅. but yeah, 2 of you cant exist in the save universe. though it'll be funny. 10C deserve more recognition for GTFO. this game is on a league of its own.
@@ProfessorScaler makes sense, apparently it might also be what happened to the "nightmare universe team" but I have no clue about that Thanks for awnsering though!
Is it weird that I don't really like the lore? The multiple dimensions thing is massively overused at this point, especially when they treat the different dimensions as distinct realities that have basically no interaction with each other. And the trope of having aliens secretly helping people diminishes the accomplishments of the characters in my opinion. With that said, it could have been a whole lot worse and the developers seem to have done a good job of explaining things, even if I don't care for the direction they took it.
I hope the devs behind this game (10 chambers I think they are called) will work on another games, because tho this is successfull and has it's own audience, it would suck that they became a one trick wonder. It would suck eespecially because most of the team are Starbreeze/Overkill survivors
I'm glad this video exists. The lore of the game seems very interesting. However, I really have issues with how it's presented. I have 100 hours in the game (I know, not a lot by some standards) and I know next to nothing about it. The lore is just hidden away in computer terminals that you often forget to even check. I wish it was presented better, I wish objectives in game actually felt meaningful to the story. Or any story. They all feel arbitrary until rundown 8 I assume Okay after finishing this video, I'm left pretty disappointed. Up until the rundown 8 section I was liking the plot and worldbuilding. But as the two teams somehow converged into the same timeline (If I missed the explanation as to how two teams from alternate realities just mixed up do correct me) it started to lose me. If there's one thing I hate and I'm biased is characters going through hell and getting a shitty ending. That last arena is a boring gray ditch. The last enemies you see are the first enemies you encounter, the basic ass shooters and strikers. All of this for the other team to MAYBE make it out into some dark gloomy outside.
ok this is a great video and all but why did you sound like an annoyed/defeated teenager in the intro? I don't mean to spread hate, it's just that I nearly clicked off thinking that it would continue through the whole video
