Christopher Okhiria The R179s have reduced the need for the R32s. In addition, the L train work is scheduled to end in April. The retirements are possibly scheduled to begin in June.
Christopher Okhiria In all actuality, the shutdown is NOT a shutdown. The plans were changed last year to be a partial shutdown during nights and weekends, with regular rush hour service maintained. Because of this, there is no need for full length G train or additional C service as of now. In addition, C fleet needs only 72 R32s and 72 R179s. The A only needs its 248 R46 and 130 R179s to make service. It doesn’t even need the R32s. There are only 222 R32s left. Taking 80 cars out of service will not impact the fleet in any way until the R211s arrive.
Once the R211s come, and the R46 is retired along with the R32, I will not be surprised if Queens Boulevard and Coney Island split R211s and R160s. The R46 change is temporary. And knowing that the R32 will be retired by the R179, I honestly think that option 2 of R211s will retire the last remaining old tech cars on the New York City subway system. And the R262 will most likely retire all the remaining old tech cars in the IRT division

Prior to the swap, about half of the entire Jamaica Yard fleet was R46 train cars, all of which, except for about 48-56 cars, were on the R line. The 48-56 cars were used in the F. The rest of the fleet was R160s, which makes up the entirety of the E route and most (except for the 6-7 trains) of the F line. Now comes the Queens Blvd CBTC project, which aims to modernize the signal system on all 4 tracks of the Queens Blvd Line. To make this work, the R46 cars were swapped out to Coney Island Yard making up most of the N/W, and Q fleet, and well as a portion of the G fleet. In exchanged, the R160 cars from Coney Island came over to Jamaica Yard for R train service. The E, F, and R are rotating cars, but the number of trains on the line is mostly the same.
thelordai gat What I do know is that the 8th Avenue Line will get CBTC to increase capacity (in reality, it needs a connection between the local tracks and the Nassau Street Line). When it comes online is uncertain.
@SubwayyFan1998 No, because there are already 3 sets assigned to Coney Island. Therefore, being that the switch is in progress, thoroughly through 2020, R46s will be transferred over to Coney Island which will be having railfanners catch the last R46 F and R Trains.

The Siemens r160 vehicles are expected to have their traction motors replaced when they are outfitted with cbtc
Joseph Lambert source?
Thats not true they are no longer manufacturing both alstom and siemens propulsions. (the versions the r160s have)
Dumb rumor. How could replacing it affect CBTC? Propulsions are merely so the train has sound besides clacking.
BenTheMiner - Transit & Games sorry about that.
@@SigmaRho2922 No need to apologize. I'm aware of the rumor that's been spreading. Just very skeptical.
Coney Island Shop and moved to Jamaica Shop with R160B
I'm usually taking the E to the F!! And the F to the G!! Lol!!
I have never seen an r160b e train it's rare
I Love the Sound
I spent an hour waiting for it yesterday, and it was taken OOS.
Me too
I waited 20 minutes but realized its oos
What stop we’re you at? I was at 14th Street-8th Avenue.
@@railfanner-MaxPlati I was at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue
it was taken oos at jackson heights at around 12:40PM because of a sick passenger, i was on it when it happened
Dang an r46 N train and r160B Siemens E train what else is next? An r160 B train
imagine a r142 rolling up on queens blvd
I may have ridden this set on the (N) last year
Only just notice you blurred out the top panel.
It’s like the Q train but different they put them on the E line now R160B
I wonder if the R32s are moving to the Coney Island yard on the B, Q, N, and W lines.
Christopher Okhiria I believe 80 cars will be retired in 2020. The R179 issues have been fixed so no need for a big spare factor.
Christopher Okhiria The R179s have reduced the need for the R32s. In addition, the L train work is scheduled to end in April. The retirements are possibly scheduled to begin in June.
@@TheRailLeaguer But the L train shutdown isn't over, and the R211s haven't even arrived yet.
Not to sound dumb or anything but will the Q have some R160s?
Yea but very few sets, and it may not be r160b siemens
Ahh crap i hate the regualr ones they sound alright but r160bs Siemens are way better
@@crizzyy8025 Why would you call Alstom 160s "regular"? They're two variants and neither are the regular.
@@crizzyy8025 ikr
They look brand new
Very new
Once the R211s come, and the R46 is retired along with the R32, I will not be surprised if Queens Boulevard and Coney Island split R211s and R160s. The R46 change is temporary. And knowing that the R32 will be retired by the R179, I honestly think that option 2 of R211s will retire the last remaining old tech cars on the New York City subway system. And the R262 will most likely retire all the remaining old tech cars in the IRT division
I would be more than happy if Jamaica yard gets the r211s and all the R160Bs go back to Coney Island. R160B is my favorite on N Q W lines.
1:15 doors open
I wouldn’t be surprised if these 2 sets still have never uncoupled from one another. Lol. I highly doubt that though
aren’t they planning on discontinuing the R46 for the R211? they are giving coney yard the R46 which may suck but that justs means F, N, Q, and R trains are getting R211s so ill gladly accept the R46s
2020: Look at that! R160 Siemens E!
2030: R160 Siemens E. What so special about that?
Naw they’ll still look new then 9000 series cars look new
Is this going to happen to all E trains ?
It will run both Alstom and Siemens.
@@BenTheMiner But doesn't Jamacia already have tons of R160's?
@@Maunico0809 Yes. They're just trading the remaining R46s for more R160s.
@@BenTheMiner :(((((((
Aren't the cumo set's maintained by the Jamacia Yard and all F trains are maintained by Coney Island and Jamacia so does that means cumo set's are staying on the F?
All the (F) Train's are maintained by Jamaica yard not Coney Island yard
So then that means the cumo set's will be on the N/Q/W?
They're staying, yes. R160s are going to Jamaica and R46s are going to Coney Island.
@@Maunico0809 no
I wish my friends and I were there
Awesome!
The Answer is Q,W, and N line will receive R211s while the B line recieves them in 5 years.
I wish I could see one of those because I live near Van Wyck
That is pretty rare
I hope the Q gets most of the R46 then the N & W them since they share trains plus the Q train use less trains then the N & W trains.
Good this u caught this but u could caught the E to 145th st
Why would the E, need more NTTs? it already has NT and the only trains I see on the E were R160s.
@@TheRailLeaguer what does that mean Jack? Why does the E use Siemens when it was using R160’s before the swap?
@@matthewadonis3020 The trains are rotated around between the three lines on an as needed bases.
I wonder with the R211's about to start coming in along with the 179's already there could this mean the A&C line being the next to get CBTC?
thelordai gat What I do know is that the 8th Avenue Line will get CBTC to increase capacity (in reality, it needs a connection between the local tracks and the Nassau Street Line). When it comes online is uncertain.
Whoa I Notice That the N Is Using the R68 and the R46 did they Take Half of the R160 Out of the N line
on the E line they use R160B Alstom
E F and R will all Have r160 siemens.
@SubwayyFan1998 no the E F R will be 100% r160
@SubwayyFan1998 Not at all, are you aware of the ongoing car swap?
@SubwayyFan1998 No, because there are already 3 sets assigned to Coney Island. Therefore, being that the switch is in progress, thoroughly through 2020, R46s will be transferred over to Coney Island which will be having railfanners catch the last R46 F and R Trains.
They'll keep their R160 Alstoms.
So wait....with R46's going to CI? Apparently u wont see them on the F & R anymore, so where will they go? The N?
thelordai gat The R46 cars are bring transferred to Coney Island Yard, and they will be seeing use on the N/W, Q and other lines. I have a video of an R46 running on the W Broadway Local.
I remember 46's were widely used on the N back when I was a kid so it's kind of a throwback for me
You can upgrade the rolling stock all you want, but there will always be a homeless guy
Brick Dog Well not one in every car if the train. Rather it would be one on every third train.
For all those people wondering when the R160B Seimens will be seen again on the Broadway line here is your answer: Wait until the E/F is rerouted via the Broadway Line
Literally the R train could also use Siemens too since it's from Jamaica along with the E and F
True
Wdym seen again?? It's still running on the N, Q and W and will still run.
Once they get kicked off the N, Q and W they'll still be seen on Broadway on the R
@@joefade786 some will still be on N, Q & W...
Are ALL the R160s from Coney Island being swapped with R46s from Jamaica, or will a few of each remain in their original yards? If it’s the former, it’s gonna be weird not seeing any R160s on the N/Q/R/W
DMV Railroad & Aviation Video Productions All Siemens sets yes, all Alstom sets no. There will be a few Alstom sets left in the Coney Island Yard.
Few sets will be kept.
@SubwayyFan1998 That doesn't answer the question.
