⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Rolling Stock Fleet Swap - R46 Operating on the W Line
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 дек 2019
- To prepare for CBTC to go live on the Queens Boulevard E/F/M/R lines, the R46s that run on these lines are being moved to Coney Island Yard. In exchange, R160s maintained by Coney Island Shop will be transferred to Jamaica Shop. Here we see a transferred set of R46 cars running in W line service. Expect more interesting changes in the future. Enjoy!

Nothing will ever compare to the R40 Slants on the W. New York was still New York when those trains were running.
Blake McNamara Nothing will ever compare to the unsafe ends on the R40 and their uncomfortable flat seats and jerky ride. Not disappointed at all that they are gone.
@@davidgordon841 Well you're entitled to your opinion as I (and many other railfans are) entitled to our's.
Blake McNamara Agreed, those things used to go crazy fast. I enjoyed them during their final years on the B as a kid.
Sneaky Boy I loved them til the very end. I moved to Far Rockaway in early 2008 and it was so awesome when I caught my first R40 and R46 on the A. That RFW ride on the R40 will be unforgettable.
I miss when the R32s were like everywhere on almost every lines
MTA is really serious on CBTC upgrade this time, finally they’re going to install it on a portion served by multiple trains after the successful implementation at both L and 7 trains
Damn I have a lot of memories riding a R46 R train because it was a every R train car.
R46 R’s don’t exist at this point in time due to CBTC almost in effect on the Queens Blvd line
Bro I saw this dude DJ hammers on the holiday train
I remember breathing a sigh of relief whenever these came in on the A train to replace the R-12s. It was a gradual transition, you crossed your fingers it was a new train in the late 70s.
You mean R-10's -- R12's were IRT cars
@@jasongreenberg931 Correct, my bad.
It’s surreal to believe that this’ll be the scene on Astoria, Sea Beach, and Brighton for quite some time
The only sucky thing is that the R46s won’t last long while on the (N)(Q) & (W) train lines, as the R211s are on their way to replacing them soon.
This was just on the N in the morning lol
Nice to see the W still active after 3 years.
I remember riding on R-46 Norton trains 40 years ago.
The blue striped ones?
@@Chris-zs5qb ur talking about the Pre goh
@@bullymaguire6168 Yup!
I think a lot of trains between the 60s and 80s had such color scheme.
@@Chris-zs5qb The platinum mist-and-blue paint scheme began to be applied to the oldest SMEE cars in 1970. Then came the graffiti epidemic in 1972 and it wasn't long before it was all obliterated.
The R160s on the the N Q W where classic... may they never be forgotten for there true home lines
Wow interesting seeing R46 cars on the N and W lines espically because i take the 7 train and I can see them at queensboro plaza but I still really want R68A to be on the N and W lines instead.
I'm sure DJ has some inside info but being I operate these beauties, I'll squash any rumors.
1.Yes the r46's will be the primary equipment on the N,W & G lines. Some will be in use on the Q when needed
2. R68/68a's will be the primary on the Q with needed equipment used on N & W.
3. R160's/Alstom propulsion currently at Jamaica and Culver yards will be the primary for E & F with needed equipment going to the R
4. R160's/Siemens propulsion currently at Coney island will be the primary on the R with needed equipment going to the F only.
Full swap is scheduled to be completed by Dec 23rd.
>R68 will be the primary car on the Q
For real?
Will some of the 46s out of the 207 street yard (A & C lines) be transferred over to the N, W & G lines? I asked this because of the new r179s being assigned to the 207 street yard.
@@arifakyuz7673 I'm so happy r68 returning to q. I hope this is true
@@arifakyuz7673 I still see R160 on the N. Why can't the transfer go fast.
Please ask the MTA to keep some r160 trains. The Siemens. They are rare now for my home route (Q) and I have only been on 2 since the swap. Please ask them to keep 10.
Make sense to put them on the W since it’s a weekday service, gives them less mileage.
Chad M It’s technically still the N train. The W is really just an N train to Whitehall via Broadway Local.
@@TheRailLeaguer and people think it is itself line...
modzel26 True. Separates schedules but the same line. Honestly they should just make a combined N/W schedule anyway.
JeremiahC99 It is a combined schedule. Some N train crews work the W line.
Bklynkid52 Thats true, but the public timetables depicts the N and W as two separate lines.
That’s me driving. I remember that day. Boy oh boy not only the employees mad about the downgrade but the passengers were too. Weren’t the best R46’s. Not as well maintained as the A/C ones. Wow. I’m so serious operating. Lmao in the mode I guess.
That's awesome that you saw yourself operating! This was a big shocker to a LOT of people.
Do you guys know what this means? R46's are coming to an end. Almost all of the Letter train lines will be running on the R160 only. This was just an act of exchanging old trains for new ones.
Not really, there’s still R46s running on the A line as well as the Rockaway Pk shuttle, one on the Q for AM rush hour, R, and don’t forget a few rush hours on the F . Right now, G, N, and W have those running because of preparations starting in spring 2020 when they implement CBTC on the Queens Blvd line
@@BigManTransitEnthusiast oh thank you for telling me, but I have a question. What was that railroad called that was abandoned in east New York under the switchover of the 3 and the L under Livonia Avenue station?
Jayden Philbert the bay ridge branch
@@BigManTransitEnthusiast OK thanks and Theory: If the MTA could have not a lot of track materials they could use those rail parts wrapped in plastic sitting there
Basically the R46s will Be now on the A, B, G, N, Q and W trains with R68/68As I believe
Glad to see them on the Astoria lines. Now let's see when they pop up on the B.
GojiMet86 They popped up on the Q train
@@slayqueen2025xd R46's on the Q have been a thing for a while now

@@arvoos I seen one many times at 7 30 or 7 40 in the morning. Q will be primarily r68s and sometimes r46. Check top comment where guy talks about it
Someone posted in a thread relating to the Subway rolling stock that they would call the W train the Wario train if they ran R46s on the W line. Both are rather fat, wear yellow, & have a W insignia. I might find some Wario trains when I return to New York this coming spring. I'll likely be riding an R160 on the R though because I plan on staying on the Queens Blvd Line next time I go.
Concourse & 207th St needs R46s
I like those trains operating the W but it seems the MTA does not. They didn’t even bother to center the front W rollsigns 🤦🏽♂️
Does this explain why I saw a W train @ Jay street metrotech.
Some W trains begin/terminate at 86 St during the rush hour

Hey when you do these videos show the stops and which direction the train is going
OMG THAT MEANS THAT THE R160 Siemens F TRAIN WILL RETURN!
Wait so does that mean that I'll start seeing more R46 NQRW trains?
D trains will stay on the R68s only.
I wish the Broadway line would get more new trains. But at least it'll have a 100% R160 line now.
The MTA is ruining the Broadway line in my opinion. I personally do not notice any difference between CBTC and regular signaling. I still hope that there will be some R160s on the broadway Line such as the N, Q and W.
redphone243 How is a minor fleet swap ruining one trunk line?
JeremiahC99 because first off it’s major, the Broadway line which is the N Q R and W lines have big ridership especially at rush hour. Modern trains is important for safety and overall experience. Spending lots of money for a modest improvement in signaling which is CBTC is pointless. Queens is less busier than Manhattan.
redphone243 Queens Blvd is essentially Lexington Avenue of Queens. The two express services, the E and F are filled to the brim every rush hour.
Broadways issues come from a big flaw in service. Currently, the N switches on the local track after 34th Street, and shares the local track with the R and W until it enters Queens. Once it get to Queens, the R splits off from the N and W and operates on the notoriously congested line. As a result, all three services are below capacity. If you fix that by rerouting the R to Astoria, and the N to the Second Avenue Subway, swap the Q and D in Brooklyn, and et voila, you got yourself extra train capacity on the Broadway Line. This can be done before CBTC and new cars. Obviously that would require new yard facilities, but that’s another story.
Marvin L. Espinoza I hope so and I have a good feeling that will be the case because the R train uses 30 trains of R46 and the F uses 7 and there is more than 37 trains of R160 in the Coney Island yard I think.
redphone243 The Plan is for 1486 R160s and an unspecified number of R211s. I believe all of the Siemens sets will move as well.
R160 (W) Train: Good Luck out there R46
R46: oh I will, I’ll be the best train there ever is.
r160: good luck here
r46s from r: good luck to you too but i was here first so I know the line well
R46 (F): Good Luck on being stayed on R160!
R160 (F): Thanks!
Since I was going through this, I just feel the need to share this info with you guys.
I’m honestly sad about this. My fav rolling stock internally is the R46. Some of my earliest memories are from when the F and G, which I took often, were just R46. I have fond memories of being on those trains. I’ll never forget the first time I marveled at an R160A E pulling into W 4 St. R46’s will still be on the G, but more importantly, one day all R46’s will be out of service. But honestly, I know lots of people probably felt that way about older rolling stock. But hey, there’s still places like the Transit Museum and 2nd Av from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Sometimes change happens, but even when something’s gone, it only makes our memories more important.
I’m sorry, I just felt I had to share that. Thank you.
But the R46s are very similar to the R44s. You could also go to Staten Island since they are still quite a bit away from retiring their R44s
@@transitvideosbayarea Apparently not. The R211 fleet is also going to Staten Island.
@@Ultrasun-fv5de Yeah, buy that's still a few years away.

Nope the (R) will be all R160s

But I did. However, I really wanna see "Astoria Local" sign add.
With the R46’s from Jamaica being transferred to Coney Island, I assume their primary replacement, the R211, will not just be on the A, C, F, R, and possibly the Rockaway Park Shuttle, but perhaps the G, N, and W as well. (Possibly even the B and Q too)
No wonder the MTA is ordering over a thousand R211 sets lol
Probably the Q to it might see the B D lines for once
The r211s might see the Q line to
R211's might be on the (N) (Q) and (W)
Hopefully Coney Island can keep there Siemens r160s
R160s will be sent back to Coney Island after R211s arrive

R46 Rules
Let 'em have it. The W got the R40 slants, R40Ms, and R42s. This feels like a return to the good old days.
So no more r46 On the Jamaica line
R179 SBS Productions Nope.
Hell yeah!
they could have waited for the R211s
I don’t know how they made the R40 slants like that. First off; they look like the rear of a NYC Sanitation truck on one end of the car, like wtf is up with that
Nice Dj Hammers
It’s better to take the R46’s from the N and W and put them on the Q,G,B, and D trains because the N and W is not the same with the R46’s being there
There are already R46 cars operating on the Q line. 396 cars is in excess of what the Q needs so they had to go somewhere.
Aren't the old A trains R46?🤔🤔🤔🤔

Stan The man You won’t see those on the D line. D line is based out of the Concourse Yard in the Bronx so their fleet most likely will be untouched. amazing50000 They the same weight as the R68/As, so they will be fine.
I think the R46 are more suitable for the NW trains since the R train underground and the NW train runs outside occasionally the R46 will be able to have the outdoor and the R46 W train is even better because since the W train is a weekday only service train the R46s will have much more rest time during late nights and weekends
Explains why I was riding one of these this morning.

Good video. No, seriously very good video. I'm gonna have to guess, the Broadway BMT R Train is mad as hell right now.😡🤬, but they will get over. And while on the subject, I don't recall what was the last time N train that I saw in these cars, like it was the Late'70s- Early/Mid'80s all over again. It's like a beautiful flashbacks. Otherwise good video. Tell me asap 😂 thanks again 🥂. On the other hand, the IND A, sometimes the C,F, and for the record, the BMT R Train service dominates the R46 cars....I guess need I go on. I might be wrong on this subject, but.......let me know asap..... and thanks again. I got this '70s-'80s weird feeling. I gives me the chills. Thanks again
update : ALL R160's will run in the Queens corridor . When r 211 comes in they will first replace 46s then 68s, and then 68a , once the old , smee tains are all gone ,CBTC WILL BE IMPLEMENTED system wide . by that tine all the new cars come in the system will be close or ready for cbtc. ill be long retired then.
DJMikeLover Smitty I don’t think they may end up replacing the R68/As.
Was there ever an R68/A (R) Train?
Yes
That right
I think my friend actually caught an R68 R train recently
There was also a rerouted F train that basically became an R160 Cuomo D train
Probably
Wait now on Queens Blvd will be nothing but R160 what about the upcoming R211 and some R179 aren't they compatible with CBTC
somecallmeelvis the R179 are only servicing the A, C, J and Z trains since they were much needed and also, the R32s and R42s will soon be eliminated. They are also getting CBTC. It’s possible that the R211s will definitely go on the F and R train but the R160s will probably go back to Jamaica Yard because the R160s are well maintained
The 179s are CBTC compatible but they only run on the A,C,J/Z lines. 211s will supposedly be CBTC compatible but its yet TBD which lines they will be assigned to. My guess is they'll put them on the A and F lines first.

Why couldn't they send all Siemens r160s to QBL line, since every time I ride these sets, especially on the Q line, it always crawls? OR even worse, grinding halt. Even though Onix propulsions don't sound as good, I would rather have speedier service.
Jeff Mao No idea.
2021 update: all R160 Siemens sets were moved to Jamaica Yard so those cars can get CBTC kits installed.
I was just on the W this morning...
So you tellin me the Coney Island Trains will all be getting 211s in 2021
Garage Door Fan 52 Most likely yes, but it would be better for R211 trains to be assigned to train lines getting CBTC so that the CBTC operation would be operated with factory fresh train cars instead of train cars with nearly 10+ years of mileage on them.
@@TheRailLeaguer hopefully CI gets R160s back...

There's no telling where the 211s will end up when they are delivered and put into service. Supposedly they will replace most if not all of the 46s and the 32s. They will definitely be on the A line for sure. As far as the coney island lines go they should get some as well but which ones we have to wait and see. If I had to guess they might put some on the F to test out CBTC and possibly the N and Q. I don't see them putting any new techs on the D line anytime soon. R68s aren't going away anytime soon.
