  • After 45 years of service on Queens Boulevard Lines such as the R line, the R46s have finally been completely moved off of the R Line. The R is now completely served by R160-type cars. This video shows the last days of R46s running on the R line. Enjoy!

    The R46 has been ingrained in my head as the R train and will forever be so. I have so many good memories of this train. They were great and had a nice interior, one of the best in the subway rolling stock. It is terribly sad that they are being moved from the R line, their rightful home. R.I.P.

    It's been a long ride home for me riding the r46 R Train for almost 12 years. When I first saw an r160 R Train I was speechless. Everyday I get up 7 in the morning to see if I can spot an r160 R Train. But, I always get the r46 R Trains. Now since the r46 stock are leaving the R Train, I'm truly gonna miss them. I glad that the r46 stock trains are back on the N & Q lines.

      The R46s were iconic on the Queens Boulevard Line, but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end sometime. At least they are on the A, C, N, Q, and W lines. As someone who has been riding the subways for 15 years and is almost 20 years old, I will never forget the R46s on the QBL

    • @W.L.Customs
      @W.L.Customs 4 года назад +3

      Michael M yes, true. Besides the R46s, other historic and iconic train fleets that made its history along the Queens Boulevard Line include the R32s, R40s and R42s. These I also miss as well, but what else can I say? The good thing is that they’re preserved now. As a true railfan, I’m starting to get used to riding the R46s on the (A)(C)(N)(Q) and (W) trains more now. Hopefully, once this coronavirus pandemic situation is over, I’ll be able to get my hands on fanning the (A)(C)(N)(Q) and (W) trains, and maybe make up a number of days I lost when service was running normal due to the coronavirus outbreak.

    Welp. It's official, the Queens Blvd line is fully NTT only(r160s). It's been a great ride with you r46 R train. Now it's time for these r46s to enjoy their lives at Coney Island yard(G/N/Q/W and possibly the B). You've served a good 4 decades on the F and R and now you're moving on to newer lines. Rip to both the r46 F and R trains(1975-2020).

      Francisco Leon R179 are better of on the A train. Unless the MTA decide to order more 5 sets of R179 to push some R160 to the N, Q and W. Then some R46 to the A and C and completely retire and scrap all the R32. If only the MTA increase the order more than 300 cars. It should of being at least double the amount. But is only a suggestion but things could of being better.

    Thanks for posting. Originally from Brooklyn I live in VA Beach now. I remember in the 70's as a kid seeing when those cars were brand new, especially the red-white-blue band bicentennial cars (formerly #680 & 681) on the F line at Coney Island. First subway cars I ever rode with A/C that actually worked. They're longer length too, like LIRR & Metronorth. Wasn't long after the R46s got graffitied all up like the older models. They ran on E, F, G, N at that time, later on ran on the "JFK-train to the plane" from 57 st-6 Av to Howard Beach. All the old trains we loved all gone: R-32 & R-42's gone two months ago, now these. Hope they spare a couple for the NYT museum. Again thanks for posting DJ!

    I've only rid 5 or 7 R46s, just like the GMC RTS, GMC Fishbowls, And the flexibles, and other trains like the Redbirds, it was its time to go.

    The R became almost all R46 in the 90s, alongside the G. Before that, those R46 models were on the E. They were swapped about the same time the R46 got the overhaul. I still remember when the G and R was mostly pre overhaul R32 models.

    wow, that's strange to see. i did often ride the R as a teenager living in rego park... it's not a train model i have a ton of nostalgia for in particular, but it's part of my formative years. a little sad to see them go, honestly.
    it's a little sad to see the MTA's variety of rolling stock get lower and less diverse over time, but one also has to recognize that that diversity was only born out of decades of severe underfunding and undermaintenance forcing them to keep older car models in service for decades longer than their "shelf life" as it were
    as cool as it was riding Redbirds and r40 slants in the 90s and even into the mid 2000s, that only happened because there was no other choice
    that the r42s were still running til THIS YEAR is a piece of proof that the underfunding continues in some ways to this day

    Good thing, I've been riding R46 R Train since I was 9 or 10, I don't know. What I want is, I want Some R46 to be on the F line and I want some R160 and R160B on the D and B line, R179 too. But definitely, I don't know if MTA won't do it. Sad :(
