Abandoned 100 Year Old High School In New England

- In this video we will be exploring an enormous old high school in the greater New England area of the United States. This historic high school was built in 1924, making this grandiose structure just under 100 years old. The ornate stone and brick building was designed by a noted New England architect and featured elegant Georgian architecture and striking Greek columns that adorned the exterior facade.
The interior of the three story tall stately school featured an Olympic size gymnasium, a swimming pool, a beautiful auditorium, a stunning wood paneled library, science and biology labs, art and ceramic rooms, and all the other classrooms one would ever need or want in any high school.
Once a highly reputable educational institution, the school played a pivotal role in shaping the academic landscape and contributing to the community's growth. The high school was also recognized for it’s key academic programs, student achievements, athletic performances, and community engagement initiatives, which all demonstrated how the high school had emerged as a beacon of educational excellence and community impact throughout most of its existence.
As the years marched on, the school began to decline in popularity, especially as it began ranking in the bottom for academic test scores. This led to a steady decline in student enrollment and an increase in teaching vacancies, which subsequently caused the school to lose millions of dollars in funding.
By 2017, as the school now faced serious financial shortages it simultaneously also began to deteriorate and fall into severe disrepair. The maintenance of the aging school became too much of a burden on the district and they were left with no other choice but to close the old high school.
On June 22, 2018, nearly 1,000 students packed the schools auditorium for its final graduation ceremony.
Shorty after the commencements, city officials and administrators made the ultimate decision to permanently close the once bustling school. A new, modern, state of the art high school opened up nearby that same year.
As of 2023, the fate of the old school is still unclear. The city in which the school is in has since taken sole ownership of the high school and since that has happened, it has really gone downhill. Unfortunately, as is all too common with many abandoned buildings, it has since been the target of criminals, scrappers, vandals, and of course urban explorers. Honestly not a bad looking school even still. Too bad it can’t be saved. There’s so much good left
7:25- That room full of books PISSED me off, in today’s world there are always people looking to learn. The fact that someone from that school didn’t fill their truck up with those books and bring them to a neighboring district, a local library, a shelter, or even just a prison SPEAKS VOLUMES about the staffing. I am disgusted.
I would have given anything to buy books from my old primary school's library, but at the time I was too young to drive and my parents didn't even tell me until a YEAR after it had closed.
It must be pretty sad for this to have been your high school, knowing nobody goes there anymore and its just slowly falling apart by itself.
Economics having a big roll of the school board closing this classic high School is a crying shame you are right about the books being donated to a place that could have used them 😮😢

Yes, the books could have been donated, given away, or even if push came to shove recycled. So many options.

A company could have salvaged the desk , filling cabinets, books and chairs. Or even allowed former students the opportunity to buy a souvenir , Donated the books,. Just to be looted and distorted.
I managed to get a couple tiny souvenirs of my old grade school by sheer dumb fortune; I was driving by my old neighborhood and the church (who used to run it) was having a garage sale. Walked out in tears with a single framed picture and a hymnal.
it's always wild when a school district closes a school, and doesn't even bother to bring in auction company. considering how broke the schools are, you'd think they'd be looking at all the resources they have to recoup and supplement.
i'd imagine someone is likely still paying the minimal liability insurance on the property, or else they'd have tore it down. although, i don't know how that works in a lot of these cities/towns that are experiencing rapid desertion.

What's the name of this school and what state is it in? I'm from Ma and ive lived in New England my whole life, but i just can't figure it out. You got a sub from me. This is why our country is in the toilet bc we treat everything like it's disposable. Almost everything in there is still useful to someone. Great content.

I wish my old primary school had been left abandoned, it got the lowest floor gutted and turned into a low-budget daycare instead. What a sad ending.

All these old school can be repaired and turn into big homeless shelters for homeless people to live and find jobs to help them get food and clothes and the schools have big cafeteria to feed them
If I had gone there, I would have definitely brought some important things which I needed,poor thing all the books are lying like this. I wish some extraordinary book, things get there.

Theatre can be given to artists to perform there. Classrooms can be rent to people teaching classes, from yoga to anything. Or given for symbolic rent, just to keep the building functional. Gyms and sport fields can be made community centre for sports or local teams, professional or armature, to be based/housed there. Some wings can be made into studios for homeless. In fact the building is so big it can house the entire homeless population of the city after it's modified accordingly.
Why waste a solid functioning building like that?
I've seen a video done by other urbexers done about a year ago of this place and it was in almost mint condition.

trying to figure out where this is so i can go, thought i tracked it down but when i searched there was an article on google about it being slated for demolition but the article was from 2013 so im guessing i didnt find the right location 😢
Those books can be used elsewhere it’s a shame
I don’t understand why in these type of buildings all those kind of supplies are left that could be used elsewhere! It’s such a waste! Even the desks and chairs can be used in other places. What the heck!??!?
Not sure if u read these. It would be nice if you would add in the beginning if these places are for sale and their address and realtor phone# only if they are forsale. I think it would only take a fewvphone calls to find out. Someone watching your channel may actually be interested in buying one of these places

Understand that all possessions and assets have to be audited out of inventory before being donated, which in itself takes time and money. Something they clearly lacked.
