- Historic old home built sometime around 1860-1870. Outside of Hertford Connecticut. The house would stay in the same family for nearly a hundred years with a large addition being put on the back in the early 1900’s making it the large house seen today. During the 1960’s after house was sold from the original family it was converted into apartments and then eventually forgotten a few decades later after maintenance and repairs being too costly on the old house . Sadly now going to be torn down. Just glad too have this historic old house documented in pictures and video so it won’t be forgotten totally. Thank you for watching this beautiful old house. Also sorry for not finding out what was behind the plywood on the door. That was a real mystery upstairs! Would love to hear ideas! Like and comment if you enjoyed!

That place is AMAZING ! The stained glass is beautiful, they should try to salvage that before they tear down the house . Stained glass is worth a lot of money these days.

This house was somebody's pride and joy, and the old growth floorboards upstairs are nothing shy of amazing! I'm betting the tower played double duty being a place to sit and warm your bones on a chilly sunny day, and a bright place for the kids to play on a rainy day. The stained glass above the door is amazing, and should be saved from the next vandals. The 8 pane floor to ceiling windows must have let some refreshing air in on hot summer nights, I'm sure they have all the original glass in them. Thanks Kappy, see you next time!

This is such a stunner! This is where I wish we had pictures from the home’s early days. It’s really unique. I love the stain glass and the wood work. I wonder if the access to the tower was what was behind the plywood since you couldn't find a way up there. This would have probably been a nice house once upon a time. I'm glad you are able to find these gems Kappy and document them.

Thanks for sharing this. I lived in Connecticut for years and it often bothered me when I'd see old houses that were obviously once beautiful and someone's home, now abandoned and dilapidated. I'm glad you were able to capture this before it's gone.
The floor boards are amazing! You can’t buy boards that size no more for sure. What a house this must have been back in its hay day. It’s a shame to see homes like this rot down to nothing. But I’m glad you went in to see what’s left before this home is lost to history. Great content Kappy!

It would have been a nice home back-in-its-day... with probably that back part a addition later to added, but I do not see it as a MANSION. Its floor-to-ceiling height was short for scope of a Victorian to be higher-end and the woodwork was basic for average homes... but decent oak when natural originally.
IT IS MISSING high-ceilings and arched entryways also and gotta have a main staircase to showcase a grand entry or room. The TOWER portion is what gives it that "Victorian Mansion" MYSTIC about its exterior.... its interior would have fell short by the rest of the house... Wide planked floors were just quicker to construct vs a intricate hardwood floor to show-off and doorways basic. Upstairs again basic common home look of the era.... THE THIS IS AMAZING? Well, once you see true Victorians and homes that were higher-end.... you know the difference.
SORRY MY OPINION FALLS SHORT I GUESS... again... without the Tower it would be seen as just a country home in the woods.
Clearly this home is yet savable.... just won't be too long its tower might be lost as leaks are a cancer to old wood quickly and more storms will take its toll.
Another house that could be saved but is left to rot. So much of America’s history is being wiped away. Thanks for another great video. Stay safe and God bless. 🙏 😊
I watch a lot of these videos, as I find abandoned buildings totally fascinating. It always saddens me to see once nice things simply get left behind to deteriorate...i.e. appliances, stoves, beds, etc. Always makes me wonder what the lives of the people who lived there were like and what happened to make them all turn their backs on it and walk away.
If I ever win the lottery, I will move heaven and earth to restore this grand lady to her original beauty!

When I see beautiful old homes like this one, I imagine what it must have been like during its glory days. I think of the people who lived there, the children who played in those rooms, food that was cooked in the kitchens. I think of the people who used those knobs to open the doors, all those people who went up and down those stairs. I am an old fool, a dreamer. Sigh!!!Thank you.

What a beautiful yet strange house! The washer/dryer aren’t that old.. I wonder when and why it was abandoned! With such isolated water damage it is definitely salvageable! I wish I could save them all!!!
Wow! As for that mystery door the first thing that popped into my mind was The Twilight Zone! You never know! And that window where you paused to watch the rain come down…I could just see a woman standing there gazing out thinking how beautiful the rain was. When I look at houses like this, my brain sees all the potential. Someone (in a perfectly wonderful world) should get a group of investors, carpenters, plumbers, restoration people etc… and rehab what can be rehabbed. The top of the tower could be recreated, trim, interior furnishings like the wood cook stove, tub, wood stove , could be pulled out and either rehabbed or sold, and take the house down to the bare bones. Save for the floors! Make it new again and either sell it for more than anyone could afford or make it a homeless shelter, a health clinic, whatever and start giving back to this world instead of everyone taking everything they possibly can. There are so many filthy rich people who wouldn’t even notice if they parted with a million dollars. But that would never happen so I’ll just keep dreaming! Excellent find Kappy!

Unfortunately houses like that sit awaiting developers to cut up the land and build condos and strip malls.
This house is an absolute gem with the tower and floor to ceiling windows. I love how the staircase twists and turns, even the paint colors are nice.
Tower portion gives it that must-have-been-a-mansion mystic ... was not a Victorian Mansion vibe once inside. No high-ceilings or arched entryways... no grand staircase and wide-plank floors were just cheaper to build vs more intricate hardwood floors. Upstairs bathroom clearly farmhouse grade by the woodwork. Worth saving.... just was never a Mansion. Large home with a addition yes and probably housed a family with many children.
What a beautiful home that would be after "some" work. I'm watching from Australia, and after seeing this, I want to move to New England, even if it's half empty 🏞

Great find! Thanks for sharing. Something tells me the stairwell was blocked off. Somewhere between the upstairs “office” and on way to what seemed liked a private apartment. Too bad the house was renovated in that manner. The large floor boards are amazing and I hope are preserved at some point.

Beautiful house! A major restoration project to be sure, but think what you'd have at the end! Those peculiar interior walls look like later ill-considered additions. Love the tower- and those floorboards! As always, thanks Kappy!

It started as a very old house maybe circa 1700s, that was renovated during the Victorian period (the tower was added and third floor redone). I think the floor plan may have made some sense at that time. Once the last owners got their hands on it, and turned it into a maze with all the new sheet rock walls, it became unlivable. It looks like they got themselves so confused they accidentally sealed the access to the third floor...what incompetence..
I agree that this seems older than what he says; also, in these old houses, the bedrooms connect to one another, not always to the hallways as much. We have many in my town and my ancestors' house in upstate NY had the same thing.
The walls were a dead give away for a remodel lol shame; I wonder what the original rooms would've looked like. Some paneling, wallpaper maybe?
I agree this started as a simple 1700s house then remodeled into oblivion.

The kitchen and the windows stained glass painted green was my favorite room,very cozy.I liked the original part of the house,it was oddly laid out because i think of the other part added on.The end photos were beautiful,so serene,you always give us a great find,thanks kappy

I live on the east coast. My husband is a builder. My son is a builder. My grandson is an architect. My grand daughter is a designer. My older daughter works in Insurance. My youngest daughter is a farmer/special needs teacher. We rehabbed a house that was stand on a map in 1754. We lived in it for 30 plus years. My oldest daughter owns and lives in it now. These old homes can be beautiful when rehabbed. I wish we could get a look and talk to the owners if it looked doable. We restored to a usable modern home with a age appropriate look.
As sad as it is that this once beautiful home has been abandoned and left to rot, it has now been immortalized forever due to this video. Urban Explorers provide us the history that would otherwise be forgotten.

Took a few guys to get that jetted tub up that tiny staricase. Makes one wonder how they ever did it. Yep, as a retired mechanical engineer, I'd love to see a glimpse of the basement systems, heating boiler, etc. At one time, I'm sure a very large family lived there, and their energy bills to heat it in winter must have been unreal !!!!!
Wow, so many remodeling projects really confused the layout of this house. I think it was used as a business at one time, the kitchen was pretty fancy and not everyone requires a 6 burner stove for everyday use. Pretty cool place, though. The floor boards were amazing. Thanks, Kappy

It's amazing to me that after all of this time and all of the deterioration, those windows are still intact. I would love to have them. This place must have really been something in it's hey day. In my opinion, even in this state, this place is worth saving.

I loved some of the rooms of this amazing house which I don't think has been abandoned that long judging by the bathroom fitments, spot lights, and the cooker. The original oven was a beast of a thing but interesting to see. I also loved the staircase but it looked like a secondary one to me and I expected a much grander main one, perhaps ripped out in an attempt to modernise? I reckon the staircase to the top floor could have been behind the boarded area of the bathroom, just a thought. And the tower rooms with all those tall windows were just lovely. I really enjoyed this house, something about it, not sure what.

I love it! I think I spotted what might have been the bottom of the staircase that leads up to the top floor. Go back and check at 12:28 and see what you think. It surely would be nice if someone would fix it up. I hate the thought of it being used as a practice burn for the firefighters! I look forward to your next video!

I think this was a case of the house being much nicer on the outside or interesting than the inside. I did love seeing that big wood-burning cook stove. I really enjoy seeing the homes at the end! I all have such great character.❣️❣️❣️

You have such a lovable personality, so I feel comfortable giving a bit of advice. Sometimes your written words use the adverb “too” rather than “to”. To help you decide if “too” is correct, exchange it with the word “also” or the word “very”. If either of those two words make sense in the sentence, then “too” is correct. Otherwise, “to” is the applicable word. 😊

It looked like someone really loved and cared about that house and put a lot into it while they & their family were alive, looks like probably two additions on either side of the middle portion. It was probably so gorgeous when it was new. Whoever loved it would hate to see it in this state

Definitely an interesting old house. Considering that there were so many blocked off areas.... Basement, attic and that one room. I can't help but wonder what they were hiding.
Maybe I watch too many paranormal shows…they had to nail the door as an attempt to keep the spirits at bay.

@@kenbsd1049 but just shutting a door would have the same outcome. There was no need to nail boards over doorways or seal off access to basements and attics. I have an attic access and have never opened it. But I could still get into it.

Old houses are often very choppy but this one is almost like a maze. I think people did some renovating and added walls. It's not my top favorite but it's certainly on the list. You did it again Kappy!!
To me, part of the charm of old houses is the maze like floor plan. I am not a fan of "open concept," and they don't build them like this any more.
