Terry I am a fan of both. I have to say though this was as about tied as you can get. SU tubas and JSU trumpets gotssss dzammmnn. I think the game is still too early they need to go back to having it Oct. But both always good to watch! 💪🏾💪🏾 Dr. Little and Taylor always put it that work with them young adults. Love it.

No disrespect to Dawg Team or the rest of the sections. The trumpets have to be careful of trying to go into the heavens on every song and every note. Gotta have balance. SU definitely is better than last year. Golden Stallions have improved. Their trumpets need some more help but have improved. But like you said KB, I think it's gonna come down to song selection. For SU, I would ride that CT wave hard, especially against JSU.
I gave su zero qtr simply bcuz they played more songs. Su didnt care about the presentation ceremony. Annoucncer was talking while both bands were playing. 5th is different story. Jsu let Kevan run through SU entire staff. Sorry as much as su folks think they're back, they are not. They played loud to cover up the details/mess up (weak trumpets/mellos lead and transition). Literaly every SU directors directed a song while Kevan put on a clinic genre. Jsu went the more technical, diverse, and musical route while su played loud, musical here and there and powerful. All i got to say is in those jeans created something special.
In those jeans were played in 2003 and much better than jSU. that old ass song and the song selection for jSU in the 5th was not it. This aint 2023. Yall got next year. Yall do much better in A.W. SU owns the Vet

Being there I would say the Zero was getting cut off by announcements, etc. I brought my friend who hadn’t been in band in like 10 years, he was enjoying JSU more than SU. His words: “JSU is more balanced, I can hear their woodwinds”
Little and Co. were late. Southern showed up on time and were ready to march in according to the schedule sent by JSU. They shouldn't have had to wait in that parking lot and heat.

I would understand if the band was marching in prior (home team).. Jackson was literally standing there warming up and because it’s Southern, they wouldnt let them in prior.. Other bands have marched in prior to Jackson before.. They only make an issue when Southern comes to the Vet..

And being a Jackson St supporter, I have watched many zero quarters from Jackson and bands have been in the stands prior to them marching in.. They only make an issue when Southern comes to the Vet.. Also, bands have marched into Mumford prior to Southern specifically just off the top of my head, Boombox 2018. And when it comes to band placement in the stands, that is not a marching band decision, that is an HBCU decision.

This is a battle you have to be at in person. As great as the media team videos, and audio has gotten. Being there in person gives you a different feel/ sound especially this battle! I can say these two programs are miles ahead of the rest of the SWAC!!!

SU Trumpets was thin. From where I was sitting, you could barely hear them. On Kev video, I heard them a little better. In person, the BTones over powered the entire band. SU Tubas stepped up. But JSU took it overall.

I was there. The energy and vibe in there was wild. They both still getting there chops tho. They both got tired in the end unfortunately it showed. Pretty much 50/50. It really went either way. Coming from a Boom fan. I can’t wait to see them both against the rest of the bands. Both are disrespectful and I love it.
All this talk you all have about our hbcu bands. Your favorite is your favorite, period. It doesn't matter how well they play or how melodic they sound, you (we) like who you (we) like, period. If you all really want to see what band is better than the other, then the battles should be arranged the way the SWAC bands did it in the early 80s, which was both bands play their arrangements of the same songs and blow them back on each other. This, this is how you would be able to determine a pen game and just what band is playing what. But this new school concept of difficulty in arrangements to display musicality and dynamics is not cutting it. Sure, definitely this separate the big dogs from the puppies, but, it comes down to the song selection, that is it and during these times there just is not any "real music" to be played. It is a must to go back during the best of times (70s and 80s) and get music people can relate to, understand, sing to, groove to, dance to, jam to and feel. Hell, if you really want to make a statement, there was/is great music from the 60s era...when people sang songs and played instruments. Do you understand what I'm saying people...."real music". The Temps, Luther, early Jacksons/Micheal Jackson, Marvin Gaye, the Time, Prince, Earth, Wind and Fire, Maze, New Edition, Michelle', Whitney Houston, Barry "White, Force MDs, Baby Face, Al B. Sure, Keith Sweat, Mary J. Blige, Brick, Stevie Wonder, The Isles, Tony Terry, Tony, Toni, Tone, EnVogue, etc.

I'm not listening to anyone who thinks both bands should have just played over the announcements and presentations. But I have to remember most SU fans like when they get ghetto. I was there. The energy and vibe in there was wild. They both still getting there chops tho. They both got tired in the end unfortunately it showed. Pretty much 50/50. It really went either way. Coming from a Boom fan. I can’t wait to see them both against the rest of the bands. Both are disrespectful and I love it.

All this talk you all have about our hbcu bands. Your favorite is your favorite, period. It doesn't matter how well they play or how melodic they sound, you (we) like who you (we) like, period. If you all really want to see what band is better than the other, then the battles should be arranged the way the SWAC bands did it in the early 80s, which was both bands play their arrangements of the same songs and blow them back on each other. This, this is how you would be able to determine a pen game and just what band is playing what. But this new school concept of difficulty in arrangements to display musicality and dynamics is not cutting it. Sure, definitely this separate the big dogs from the puppies, but, it comes down to the song selection, that is it and during these times there just is not any "real music" to be played. It is a must to go back during the best of times (70s and 80s) and get music people can relate to, understand, sing to, groove to, dance to, jam to and feel. Hell, if you really want to make a statement, there was/is great music from the 60s era...when people sang songs and played instruments. Do you understand what I'm saying people...."real music". The Temps, Luther, early Jacksons/Micheal Jackson, Marvin Gaye, the Time, Prince, Earth, Wind and Fire, Maze, New Edition, Michelle', Whitney Houston, Barry "White, Force MDs, Baby Face, Al B. Sure, Keith Sweat, Mary J. Blige, Brick, Stevie Wonder, The Isles, Tony Terry, Tony, Toni, Tone, EnVogue, etc.
Dawg its interesting that you could know that they were doing "presentations" but dont know that JSU refused to let SU march in. If I have my band off the bus ready to get in the stadium and I have officials telling me I cant because of whatever reason, Imma feel disrespected and fire back with the same energy.

Anyone who think SU won the Zero obviously wasn't at the game to see how they sounded in person, which honestly wasn't that great. The only reason they played more songs is because both bands should have stopped for the presentations. If you were there in person you know other than B-Tones and Tubas, most of what they played in the Zero and 5th wasn't it. I'm not listening to anyone who thinks both bands should have just played over the announcements and presentations. But I have to remember most SU fans like when they get ghetto. If people want to give them the Zero simply off playing more songs, but in person they didn't really sound that good in the Zero.

I’m a say this…..Thru out da years/Decades JSU have been without Strong Sections such as Trumpets in years, Mellos in sum years and Not just sayn yet but maybe TUBAS this year but still held out on top if not #1 but #2 top band in the SWAC/HBCU
SU trumpets need to get stronger.

In response to the comment about The Boom marching in first….Jukebox is in the stadium in BR first as well. It’s been happening for a long time. Other thing, it’s not uncommon for SU to be disrespectful and just play…The Boom has had their moments, too…Tiger Born, Tiger Bred…been doing this a long time.
