As a diehard LSU fan, our band is really good…for not being a HBCU. There’s no comparison. I work in Jackson and am fortunate enough to be able to work JSU games and be on the field when the SONIC BOOM OF THE SOUTH marches in. Gives me chills everytime! This game was special. Their band and fans brought the energy and as a city everyone came together!
Lsu the only school that actually gives hbcu bands props. They do no hating they really be enjoying and interacting band wises. I can fuck with lsu. They always show southern love
LSU fan here... Didn't know anything about 5th quarter til I watched it live in TS. LOVED the performances by both bands. Solid representation of each other's preferred style. LSU did not play anything new for this 5th quarter. Each song has been a fan favorite for many years. The LSU Spanish melody was out of place though. Thanks to SU and their fans for an amazing night showcasing BR!

I figured it out! That long segment "rap mix medley" LSU did in the beginning starting at 9:30 was Beyonce's Coachella performance or a rendition of it at least. Started with Family Feud, then Swag Surfin, Everybody Mad, Bzzz Drumline/Hay also mixed with some Spottie Ottie, and then I forgot the name of the last arrangement from that performance. But that's what their intention was. It was cute.

I agree with many that say both bands were good. I was there and thought the whole show was good. What I respect most about LSU band is that they stayed in their lane and didn't do what most bands do and try to beat Southern doing Southern. At one time they were at SU's endzone jamming with them. Can't be mad at them giving SU a smaller section. I mean who shows up to a fight and give their opponent a weapon to fight them with.
It was a nice showcase. LSU does not sound bad for them to be a predominantly white band so I give them their props for facing a GIANT! 💙💛 It was quite entertaining. I believe the band director is from JSU.
I think this is the start of a trend. I can respect it. I think this is an another avenue of togetherness and understanding fr. I love it. We always set the trends

Fewer seats helped out SU with money. SU made over 750K for doing that game. Most money for a money game of all HBCUs. But I agree with Deion Sanders, other small PWIs making 1.4M for money games so HBCUs need to set a higher minimum across the board.
750K is great when they travel 15 minutes to Tiger Stadium. No overnight stays and meals. That has profit written all over it. But who knows what the administration will do.😎
I enjoyed the 5 th quarter and don’t understand why we make everything competitive… 2 great bands entertaining the crowd period!! Also they are students not professional musicians I appreciate the hard work put into these performances from both ❤️

I love both bands. Both took a 'W.' I've been a fan of these bands since the 90s. Also, when I was in the band the drumline was set up differently. If you type in lsu band stands in 2014 or go on youtube, you'll see it is set up differently. Idk why they set it up like this today, but hey, lsu is awesome, too!

LSU and Southern are just completely different animals…. They are both great at their own things. I’m a tiger fan through and through but everyone in BR knows that the Human Jukebox is spectacular. LSU fans were looking forward to this game because of the bands. This game was such a good time. I sat right next to the visitor section and was definitely in for a treat. This felt like a big family gathering. It was absolutely PACKED…. That’s why they were so bunched up. The schools are in the same city so literally everyone wanted to be at this game. LSU got the W in the game and Southern’s band got the W in the 5th. LSU actually plays almost every one of these songs regularly… not much new here… they weren’t trying to pander to anyone. This was all in good fun, the bands performed together during half time as a tribute to the 225 and it was really fun watching our city come together and have a good time. You should check out their halftime performance. Btw, that last song was Let us Break Bread.
The fact The Juke didn't whip out that "Can You Feel," "Tourist" or "Power" tells me they were taking it a little easy on LSU. Which is cool. It fit the spirit of the night overall.

I LIKED SU V TROY 5th Quarter, too. If you didn't see SU's March In, you should check it out. The whole TROY Band welcomed from the minute they showed up - at the fenceline. LOL Their band was so hyped. I think they consider themselves to be like the Hip Hop PWI Band or something. Troy's excitement to play against SU made the 5th Quarter so enjoyable.
For some reason ppl automatically give musicianship, cleanliness, etc to bands of PW bands. As someone that has played for New Orleans public school bands and corp style bands in Bryan county Georgia this is not the case. LSU is a good band, but in the 5th they had some songs where they were sloppy and not clean. Those tubas were dragging on a few songs. I heard a trumpet hanging over here or there. SU 9, LSU 6.

The way that LSU’s band is set up is sousaphones on top, then trombones, baritones, trumpets, drum line right below the trumpets. On the drumline’s right hand side are the mellophones and on their left hand side are the alto saxophones. Below the three are the clarinets then finally the piccolos.
I want to see this experience from the perspective of their band… I feel like that would be hella interesting to see how they think that went for them.
LSU is the best band in the SEC hands down. They on their second year with a new director, JSU graduate. LSU will be the pioneer for the 5th quarter for the SEC. This Game opened the eyes for marketing bands in college games. Which will give the edge to HBCU grads to get high paying jobs, teaching music at PWCs. IJS🤷🏾♂️#catch 22
As someone in another SEC band, I do agree that LSU band is at the top, but I can't see 5th quarter becoming a thing in the SEC. It's not that we wouldn't want to, as I think it'd be really fun, but it's that most SEC matchups only have one full band in attendance. A lot of times the other band only sends a small pep band, so I don't think it'd be a fair battle haha
